RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether compression therapy after thermal ablation of varicose veins can improve the prognosis of patients. METHODS: Systematic research were applied for Chinese and English electronic databases(PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP Databases). Eligible prospective studies that comparing the efficacy of compression therapy and non-compression therapy on patients after thermal ablation of varicose veins were included. The interest outcome such as pain, quality of life (QOL), venous clinical severity score (VCSS), time to return to work and complications were analyzed. RESULTS: 10 studies were of high quality, and randomized controlled trials involving 1,545 patients met the inclusion criteria for this study. At the same time, the meta-analysis showed that the application of compression therapy improved pain (SMD: -0.51, 95% CI: -0.95, -0.07) but exhibited no statistically significant effect on QOL (SMD: 0.04, 95% CI: -0.08, 0.16), VCSS (MD: -0.05, 95% CI: -1.19, 1.09), time to return to work (MD: -0.43, 95% CI: -0.90, 0.03), total complications (RR: 0.54, 95% CI: 0.27, 1.09), and thrombosis (RR: 0.71, 95% CI: 0.31, 1.62). CONCLUSION: Compression therapy after thermal ablation of varicose veins can slightly relieve pain, but it has not been found to be associated with improvement in other outcomes.

Aim and Objective: This current study investigated the significance of tofactinib in improving memory functions in a memory model of ß-amyloid (Aß)-induced dementia.Material and Methods: Aß1-42 was injected in the brain of mice using intracerebroventricular injection and after 14 days, the learning and memory was assessed on the Morris Water maze test. Mice were treated with tofactinib (10, 20, 30 mg/kg) two days prior to Aß1-42 injection and 14 days after Aß injection.Results: Treatment of tofactinib significantly improved the learning (decrease in day escape latency time [ELT]) and memory (increase in time spent in target quadrant). This drug also decreased the levels of T NF-α and IL-6 along with the rise in expression of p-Akt and p-GSK-3ß/GSK-3ß ratio in mice brain. Co-administration of LY294002 (P I3K inhibitor) or MK-2206 2HCl (Akt inhibitor) with tofactinib (30 mg/kg) obliterated the beneficial effects of the latter by increasing T NF-α and IL-6 levels along with decreasing the p-Akt expression and p-GSK-3ß/GSK-3ß ratio.Conclusion: It is concluded that tofactinib improves the condition of dementia of Alzheimer's type, possibly through down regulation of T NF-α and IL-6 and instigation of P I3K-Akt-p-GSK-3ß signalling system in the hippocampus of Aß-treated mice.

Melon (Cucumis melo) is an important economic crop cultivated worldwide. A unique SUN gene family plays a crucial role in regulating plant growth and fruit development, but many SUN family genes and their function have not been well-characterized in melon. In the present study, we performed genome-wide identification and bioinformatics analysis and identified 24 CmSUN family genes that contain integrated and conserved IQ67 domain in the melon genome. Transcriptome data analysis and qRT-PCR results showed that most CmSUNs are specifically enriched in melon reproductive organs, such as young flowers and ovaries. Through genetic transformation in melons, we found that overexpression of CmSUN23-24 and CmSUN25-26-27c led to an increased fruit shape index, suggesting that they act as essential regulators in melon fruit shape variation. Subcellular localization revealed that the CmSUN23-24 protein is located in the cytoplasmic membrane. A direct interaction between CmSUN23-24 and a Calmodulin protein CmCaM5 was found by yeast two-hybrid assay, which indicated their participation in the calcium signal transduction pathway in regulating plant growth. These findings revealed the molecular characteristics, expression profile, and functional pattern of the CmSUN genes, and may provide the theoretical basis for the genetic improvement of melon fruit breeding.

Background: There is increasing evidence that allergic rhinitis (AR) is associated with cancer. However, these results are inconsistent. Because of common risk factors, there may be reverse causality and confounding factors that affect our understanding of the relationship between AR and cancer. We aimed to explore the role of AR in cancer development using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Materials and Methods: We performed a two-sample MR analysis using summary data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) strongly associated with AR (or hay fever) were used as instrumental variables, mainly using the inverse variance weighted analysis method, supplemented by MR Egger, maximum likelihood, weighted media, and penalized weighted media for MR analysis. Sensitivity analyses included heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy; and leave-one-out analyses were performed to test the robustness of our results. Results: MR analysis revealed no evidence of a causal relationship between AR and any of the examined cancers (all p > 0.05). The results using five different analytical approaches were similar. Sensitivity analyses showed no evidence of heterogeneity nor horizontal pleiotropy. According to the leave-one-out sensitivity analyses, no individual SNP was significantly influencing the causal effect of AR on cancers. Conclusions: These findings do not provide evidence to support that AR has a large impact on the risk of eight common cancers in the European population. However, we cannot rule out a very minor effect of AR on cancer. Further large-scale studies are necessary to validate our findings.

Gut microorganisms can profoundly influence brain function in the host and their behavior. Since altered brain functional connectivity (FC) has been implicated in various cerebrovascular disorders, including cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, we hypothesized that gut microbiota in mice with cerebral I/R injury would affect brain FC when transplanted into germ-free mice. Metagenomic analysis of germ-free male C57BL/6J mice colonized with microbiota from mice with and without cerebral I/R injury showed a clear distinction in microbiota composition between mice colonized with control and I/R microbiota. The I/R microbiota-colonized mice showed decreased FC in the cingulate cortex, hippocampus, and thalamus, and exhibited increased anxiety as well as diminished spatial learning and memory and short-term object recognition memory. I/R microbiota-colonized mice also had significantly reduced dendritic spine density and synaptic protein levels and exhibited increased hippocampal inflammation. These results indicate that gut microbiota components from mice with cerebral I/R injury can alter animal behavior, brain functional connectivity, hippocampal neuronal plasticity, and neuroinflammation. Moreover, they increase our understanding of the mechanisms through which the gut microbiome contributes to the pathobiology of cerebrovascular diseases.
