RESUMEN

Chlorpromazine has been shown, in the present study, to generate a liquid membrane at an interface in accordance with Kesting's hypothesis [5]. The specific orientation of chlorpromazine molecules in a liquid membrane with hydrophobic ends facing the permeable substances has been found to reduce the permeability of catecholamines and neurotransmitter amino acids. This observation is discussed in the light of the orientation of receptor proteins in general. The data on transport of catecholamines and neurotransmitter amino acids are discussed in the context of the mechanism of action of chlorpromazine.

RESUMEN

Reserpine was shown to generate a liquid membrane. Transport of adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, glutamic acid, and gamma-aminobutyric acid in the presence of the reserpine liquid membrane was studied. The data indicate that the phenomenon of liquid membrane formation is likely to play a role in the mechanism of reserpine action.

RESUMEN

Haloperidol, a surface-active neuroleptic drug, was shown to generate a liquid membrane on a supporting membrane. Transport of adrenalin, noradrenalin, dopamine, serotonin, histamine, glutamic acid, gamma-aminobutyric acid, and sodium, potassium, and calcium ions through the haloperidol liquid membrane was studied. The data indicate that the phenomenon of a liquid membrane plays a significant role in the mechanism of action of haloperidol.

RESUMEN

The concentration characteristics of a seasonally adjusted circular cylindrical solar concentrator arr studied for four different absorber configurations: flat horizontal, flat vertical, tubular, and defocused tubular absorber with a vertical fin. The effect of normally distributed mirror surface slope errors on the concentration characteristics of the concentrator is also investigated.

RESUMEN

The batch of 147 undergraduate medical students (Group I) were trained in maternal and child health (MCH) by allotting them families study wherein either pregnant lady or a new born child was present. The students were made to follow up these mothers and their children for three years on periodic basis by paying home visits and motivating the mothers to attend under five clinic in the community. The students educated the mother regarding child rearing with the help of medical teacher. Another batch of 140 undergraduate medical students (Group II) who did not undergo such community based training but only didactic lectures in MCH were studied as control. The knowledge and attitudes of students in both the groups were tested and compared and significantly higher knowledge and favourable attitude were found in Group I. The attendance of patients of Group I in under five clinics was compared with other children who were not adopted by medical students. The comparison was made between their weight gain, immunizational status and episodes of illness. The beneficiaries in students families had better, attendance and immunizational coverage, more weight gain and less episodes of illness. The difference was found to be statistically significant.
