RESUMEN

Arsenic (As) is a toxic non-essential metal. Its accumulation in rice has not only seriously affected the growth of rice, but also poses a significant threat to human health. Many reports have been published to decrease the arsenic accumulation in the rice plant by various additives such as chemicals, fertilizers, adsorbents, microorganisms and analyzing the mechanism. Nanobubble is a new technology widely used in agriculture because of its long existence time and high mass transfer efficiency. However, a few studies have investigated the effect of nanobubbles on arsenic uptake in rice. This study investigated the effect of oxygen nanobubbles on the growth and uptake of As in rice. The oxygen nanobubbles could rupture the salinity of nutrients and produce the hydroxyl radical. The hydroxyl radical caused the oxidation of arsenic As(III) to As (V) and the oxidation of ferrous ions. At the same time, the oxidized iron adsorbing As (V) created the iron plaque on the rice roots to stop arsenic introduction into the rice plant. The results indicated that the treatment of oxygen nanobubbles increased rice biomass under As stress, while they increased the chlorophyll content and promoted plant photosynthesis. Oxygen nanobubbles reduced the As content in rice roots to 12.5% and shoots to 46.4%. In other words, it significantly decreased As accumulation in rice. Overall, oxygen nanobubbles mitigated the toxic effects of arsenic on rice and had the potential to reduce the accumulation of arsenic in rice.

RESUMEN

AIMS: We investigated the antibacterial effect of seven essential oils (EOs) and one EO-containing liquid phytogenic solution marketed for poultry and pigs ('Product A') on chicken pathogens, as well as the relationship between minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in EOs and antibiotics commonly administered to chicken flocks in the Mekong Delta (Vietnam). METHODS AND RESULTS: Micellar extracts from oregano (Origanum vulgare), cajeput (Melaleuca leucadendra), garlic (Allium sativum), black pepper (Piper nigrum), peppermint (Mentha × piperita L.), tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) EOs and Product A were investigated for their MIC against Avibacterium endocarditidis (N = 10), Pasteurella multocida (N = 7), Ornitobacterium rhinotracheale (ORT) (N = 10), Escherichia coli (N = 10) and Gallibacterium anatis (N = 10). Cinnamon EO had the lowest median MIC across strains (median 0.5 mg/ml [IQR, interquartile range 0.3-2.0 mg/ml]), followed by Product A (3.8 mg/ml [1.9-3.8 mg/ml]), oregano EO (30.4 mg/ml [7.6-60.8 mg/ml]) and garlic 63.1 mg/ml [3.9 to >505.0 mg/ml]. Peppermint, tea tree, cajeput and pepper EOs had all MIC ≥219 mg/ml. In addition, we determined the MIC of the 12 most commonly used antibiotics in chicken flocks in the area. After accounting for pathogen species, we found an independent, statistically significant (p < 0.05) positive correlation between MIC of 10 of 28 (35.7%) pairs of EOs. For 67/96 (69.8%) combinations of EOs and antibiotics, the MICs were correlated. Of all antibiotics, doxycycline was positively associated with the highest number of EOs (peppermint, tea tree, black pepper and cajeput, all p < 0.05). For cinnamon, the MICs were negatively correlated with the MICs of 11/12 antimicrobial tested (all except colistin). CONCLUSIONS: Increases in MIC of antibiotics generally correlates with increased tolerance to EOs. For cinnamon EO, however, the opposite was observed. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Our results suggest increased antibacterial effects of EOs on multi-drug resistant pathogens; cinnamon EO was particularly effective against bacterial poultry pathogens.

RESUMEN

Worldwide, medicinal plants have been known for economic and geographical advantages, thus possibly holding potentiality against dengue hemorrhagic fever. The methanol/water extracts from different parts of fourteen Vietnam-based plant species were subjected for experimental screening on anti-dengue activity using baby hamster kidney cells (BHK21) and plaque reduction neutralisation test (PRNT). Firstly, the methanol/water extracts were tested against serotype dengue virus DENV-1. Seven out from nineteen extracts show the PRNT50 values less than 31.25 µg/mL. Four of the above extracts namely from Euphorbia hirta, Cordyline terminalis, Carica papaya, and Elaeagnus latifolia were chosen for testing against the serotype DENV-2. All of them exhibit good activity with the PRNT50 values less than 31.25 µg/ml, which were further fractionated to obtain hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol fractions. Anti-dengue virus activity of the fractions against four serotypes DENV-1, -2, -3 and -4 was evaluated. As results, the ethyl acetate fraction of Elaeagnus latifolia is highly active against all four serotype viruses. The structural formulae of its nine constituents were input for molecular docking simulation. The docking-based order for static inhibitability is 6-3L6P>7-3L6P>9-3L6P>2-3L6P>3-3L6P≈5-3L6P>9-3L6P>1-3L6P>8-3L6P; QSARIS-based analysis reveals the biocompatibility of the most promising ligands (4-7); ADMET-based analysis expects their pharmacological suitability. Exceptional finding on 2-3LKW hydrophilic interaction at Lys43 (with the associated Gibbs free energy of -10.3 kcal mol-1 ) raises an open explanation for inhibitory effects. The results encourage further investigations for more in-depth mechanisms and drug development, such as in vitro enzyme assays or in vitro clinical trials with natural substances from E. latifolia.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Inadequate attention has been given to ensuring ongoing training to improve knowledge, skills and capacity of primary health care providers in low- and middle-income countries. The Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam is providing training sessions for physicians working in commune health stations (CHSs) in three mountainous, remote northern provinces in 2019. This article aims to assess these physicians' knowledge of correct medical responses to emergencies in order to assess their training needs. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study amongst doctors posted to CHSs located in 3 mountainous remote provinces of northern Vietnam. We used a self-administered questionnaire that comprised questions on common medical emergencies, maternal and child care, and non-communicable disease management. We performed Chi-square tests to assess the statistical significance of differences in the mean proportions of correct answers for each health care question category, and for differences in mean proportions of correct answers by doctor characteristics. RESULTS: In total 302 doctors were recruited to the study. More than half of the sample answered 30-50% of the questions correctly, followed by around a third who answered 50-70% correctly. Less than 2% of doctors answered more than 70% correct responses to the entire question set. There were statistically significant differences between question categories, with cardiovascular care questions answered correctly significantly less often than any of the categories (p < 0.00001). CONCLUSION: The findings reported here show that the doctors who participated in the study have relatively low knowledge on common emergencies, particularly to answer cardiovascular care questions. The results also support the need for continuing medical education to improve doctors' knowledge, who are mostly practicing in resource limited remote settings.

RESUMEN

Distichochlamys citrea M.F. Newman (commonly known as "Black Ginger") is an endemic plant to Vietnam and has been extensively exploited by folk medication for treatments of infection-related diseases and diabetes. In this work, its rhizomes were subjected to fractionated extraction, phytochemical examination, evaluation of antioxidant effect by DDPH free radical neutralization, and inhibitory activity toward α-glucosidase. The compositional components were subjected to in silico screening, including density functional theory calculation, molecular docking simulation, physicochemical analysis, and pharmacokinetic regression. In the trials, EtOAc fraction is found as the bioactive part of most effectiveness, regarding both antioxidant effect (IC50 = 90.27 µg mL-1) and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC50 = 115.75 µg mL-1). Chemical determination reveals there are 13 components of its composition. DFT-based calculations find no abnormal constraints in their structures. Docking-based simulation provides order of inhibitory effectiveness: 3-P53341 > 12-P53341 > 7-P53341 > 4-P53341 > 11-P53341 > 10-P53341. QSARIS-based investigations implicate their biocompatibility. ADMET-based regressions indicate that all candidates are generally safe for medicinal applications. The findings would contribute to the basis for further studies on the chemical compositions of Distichochlamys citrea and their biological activities. RESUMEN

Hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) in the complexes between aldehydes and hydrogen chalcogenides, XCHO...nH2Z with X = H, F, Cl, Br, and CH3, Z = O, S, Se, and Te, and n = 1,2, were investigated using high-level ab initio calculations. The Csp2-H...O H-bonds are found to be about twice as strong as the Csp2-H...S/Se/Te counterparts. Remarkably, the S/Se/Te-H...S/Se/Te H-bonds are 4.5 times as weak as the O-H...O ones. The addition of the second H2Z molecule into binary systems induces stronger complexes and causes a positive cooperative effect in ternary complexes. The blue shift of Csp2-H stretching frequency involving the Csp2-H...Z H-bond sharply increases when replacing one H atom in HCHO by a CH3 group. In contrast, when one H atom in HCHO is substituted with a halogen, the magnitude of blue-shifting of the Csp2-H...Z H-bond becomes smaller. The largest blue shift up to 92 cm-1 of Csp2-H stretching frequency in Csp2-H...O H-bond in CH3CHO...2H2O has rarely been observed and is much greater than that in the cases of the Csp2-H...S/Se/Te ones. The Csp2-H blue shift of Csp2-H...Z bonds in the halogenated aldehydes is converted into a red shift when H2O is replaced by a heavier analogue, such as H2S, H2Se, or H2Te. The stability and classification of nonconventional H-bonds including Csp2-H...Se/Te, Te-H...Te, and Se/Te-H...O have been established for the first time.

RESUMEN

Folk experiences suggest natural products in Tetradium ruticarpum can be effective inhibitors towards diabetes-related enzymes. The compounds were experimentally isolated, structurally elucidated, and tested in vitro for their inhibition effects on tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) and α-glucosidase (3W37). Density functional theory and molecular docking techniques were utilized as computational methods to predict the stability of the ligands and simulate interaction between the studied inhibitory agents and the targeted proteins. Structural elucidation identifies two natural products: 2-heptyl-1-methylquinolin-4-one (1) and 3-[4-(4-methylhydroxy-2-butenyloxy)-phenyl]-2-propenol (2). In vitro study shows that the compounds (1 and 2) possess high potentiality for the inhibition of PTP1B (IC50 values of 24.3 ± 0.8, and 47.7 ± 1.1 µM) and α-glucosidase (IC50 values of 92.1 ± 0.8, and 167.4 ± 0.4 µM). DS values and the number of interactions obtained from docking simulation highly correlate with the experimental results yielded. Furthermore, in-depth analyses of the structure-activity relationship suggest significant contributions of amino acids Arg254 and Arg676 to the conformational distortion of PTP1B and 3W37 structures overall, thus leading to the deterioration of their enzymatic activity observed in assay-based experiments. This study encourages further investigations either to develop appropriate alternatives for diabetes treatment or to verify the role of amino acids Arg254 and Arg676.

RESUMEN

We investigated antimicrobial residues, non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS), Vibrio spp. and their associated antimicrobial resistance (AMR), in shrimps locally purchased in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). In addition, we investigated the relationship between AMR in NTS, Vibrio spp. and antimicrobial residue in the same sample. A total of 40 samples of shrimp heads/shells from different retail sources was cultured using ISO 6579-1:2017 (NTS) and ISO/TS 21872-1:2007 (Vibrio spp.). Phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility was investigated using Vitek (NTS, 34 antimicrobials) and disk diffusion (Vibrio spp., 12 antimicrobials). A total of 9 (22.5%) samples contained antimicrobial residue, including tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides and macrolides (in 7.5%, 7.5%, 2.5% and 2.5% of samples, respectively). Shrimp samples from supermarkets had a higher prevalence of antimicrobial residue than those purchased in street markets (50% vs. 13.3%) (p = 0.049). A total of 30 (75%) samples were contaminated with NTS. All samples contained Vibrio spp., with V. parahaemolyticus being most common (87.5% samples). A total of 58.9% NTS isolates were multidrug resistant. With regards to the highest priority, critically important antimicrobials, the highest resistance corresponded to quinolones (14.4-47.8%), followed by 3rd and 4th generation cephalosporins (3.3-7.8%). Vibrio spp. isolates were characterised by their high resistance against ampicillin (82.7%) and 3rd generation cephalosporins (8.3-16.5%). Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) activity was detected in 28.1% V. parahaemolyticus isolates. Half of ESBL-positive V. parahaemolyticus strains harboured bla CTX-M1. We found an association between the presence of residues and the number of resistances for NTS (p = 0.075) and Vibrio spp. isolates (p = 0.093) from the same sample. These findings suggest that the presence of residues may contribute to the selection of AMR in foodborne pathogens in shrimps. Authorities should strengthen policies aiming at restricting inappropriate antimicrobial usage in shrimp farming, and step up monitoring of antimicrobial residues and food-borne pathogens at retail in Vietnam.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Enteroaggregative (EAEC) and Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are a major cause of diarrhea worldwide. E. coli carrying both virulence factors characteristic for EAEC and STEC and producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamase caused severe and protracted disease during an outbreak of E. coli O104:H4 in Europe in 2011. We assessed the opportunities for E. coli carrying the aggR and stx genes to emerge in 'backyard' farms in south-east Asia. RESULTS: Faecal samples collected from 204 chicken farms; 204 farmers and 306 age- and gender-matched individuals not exposed to poultry farming were plated on MacConkey agar plates with and without antimicrobials being supplemented. Sweep samples obtained from MacConkey agar plates without supplemented antimicrobials were screened by multiplex PCR for the detection of the stx1, stx2 and aggR genes. One chicken farm sample each (0.5 %) contained the stx1 and the aggR gene. Eleven (2.4 %) human faecal samples contained the stx1 gene, 2 samples (0.4 %) contained stx2 gene, and 31 (6.8 %) contained the aggR gene. From 46 PCR-positive samples, 205 E. coli isolates were tested for the presence of stx1, stx2, aggR, wzx O104 and fliC H4 genes. None of the isolates simultaneously contained the four genetic markers associated with E. coli O104:H4 epidemic strain (aggR, stx2, wzx O104 and fliC H4 ). Of 34 EAEC, 64.7 % were resistant to 3(rd)-generation cephalosporins. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that in southern Vietnam, the human population is a more likely reservoir of aggR and stx gene carrying E. coli than the chicken population. However, conditions for transmission of isolates and/or genes between human and animal reservoirs resulting in the emergence of highly virulent E. coli strains are still favorable, given the nature of'backyard' farms in Vietnam.

RESUMEN

A new rhodamine-ethylenediamine-nitrothiourea conjugate (RT) was synthesized and its sensing property as a fluorescent chemodosimeter toward metal ions was explored in water media. Analytical results from absorption and fluorescence spectra revealed that the addition of Hg(2+) ions to the aqueous solution of the chemodosimeter RT caused a distinct fluorescence OFF-ON response with a remarkable visual color change from colorless to pink; however, no clear spectral and color changes were observed from other metal ions including: Zn(2+) , Cu(2+) , Cd(2+) , Pb(2+) , Ag(+) , Fe(2+) , Cr(3+) , Co(3+) , Ni(2+) , Ca(2+) , Mg(2+) , K(+) and Na(+) . The sensing results and the molecular structure suggested that a Hg(2+) -induced a desulfurization reaction and cyclic guanylation of the thiourea moiety followed by ring-opening of the rhodamine spirolactam in RT are responsible for a distinct fluorescence turn-on signal, indicating that RT is a remarkably sensitive and selective chemodosimeter for Hg(2+) ions in aqueous solution. Hg(2+) within a concentration range from 0.1 to 25 µM can be determined using RT as a chemodosimeter and a detection limit of 0.04 µM is achieved.

RESUMEN

Non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) is a food-borne zoonotic pathogen with important implications for human health. Despite its importance, the burden of NTS infections in Vietnam is unknown. We conducted a systematic review and a meta-analysis to describe the prevalence and phenotypic antimicrobial resistance (AMR) for NTS over time in Vietnam. Following PRISMA guidelines, we identified 72 studies from PubMed and Google Scholar containing data relevant to 'Salmonella', 'Salmonellosis', and 'Vietnam', or 'Viet Nam'. Of those, forty-two papers reporting prevalence of NTS, and twenty-six including data on phenotypic resistance were selected for meta-analysis. The prevalence of NTS ranged from 2% to 5% in humans and from 30% to 41% in samples from animals and the farm/slaughterhouse environment. Between 2000 and 2020 we observed a 27.3% (p = 0.044) increase in absolute terms in prevalence among individuals with enteric diseases and a 12.0% (p = 0.047) increase in aquaculture/seafood samples. The most commonly serovars identified across studies included S. Weltevreden (12.0%), followed by S. Typhimurium (10.1%), S. Derby (6.4%), S. London (5.8%), S. Anatum (4.4%), S. Rissen (3.9%), S. Enteritidis (3.7%), S. Albany (3.3%) and S. 4,[5],12:i:- (3.0%). Over the same period, there was an increasing trend in the pooled AMR prevalence for quinolones (15.6% relative increase), 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-generation cephalosporins (23.7%), penicillins (16.1%), tetracyclines (12.9%), sulfonamides (8.8%), amphenicol (17.8%), and multidrug resistance (11.4%) (all p ≤ 0.014). A broad range of AMR genes (ARGs) were detected in both human and animal populations. The observed prevalence and AMR trends in Vietnam underscore the need of adopting a One Health strategy encompassing surveillance systems, research initiatives, and awareness campaigns to effectively address the challenges posed by NTS.

RESUMEN

We generated a human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) line from erythroid progenitor cells (EPCs) of a 20-year-old female healthy donor using Sendai virus vector encoding Yamanaka factors OCT3/4, SOX2, c-MYC, and KLF4. The established hiPSCs showed a standard morphology and expression of typical undifferentiated stem cell markers, a normal karyotype (46, XX), and demonstrated potential for differentiation in vitro. Furthermore, they were successfully differentiated into cardiomyocytes that expressed cardiomyocyte-specific markers. The iPSC line and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes will provide new avenues for future drug testing/development and personalized cell therapy for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

RESUMEN

Chickens are the primary reservoirs of Campylobacter spp., mainly C. jejuni and C. coli, that cause human bacterial gastrointestinal infections. However, genomic characteristics and antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter spp. in low- to middle-income countries need more comprehensive exploration. This study aimed to characterize 21 C. jejuni and 5 C. coli isolates from commercial broilers and native chickens using whole genome sequencing and compare them to 28 reference Campylobacter sequences. Among the 26 isolates, 13 sequence types (ST) were identified in C. jejuni and 5 ST in C. coli. The prominent ST was ST 2274 (5 isolates, 19.2%), followed by ST 51, 460, 2409, and 6455 (2 isolates in each ST, 7.7%), while all remaining ST (464, 536, 595, 2083, 6736, 6964, 8096, 10437, 828, 872, 900, 8237, and 13540) had 1 isolate per ST (3.8%). Six types of antimicrobial resistance genes (ant(6)-Ia, aph(3')-III, blaOXA, cat, erm(B), and tet(O)) and one point mutations in the gyrA gene (Threonine-86-Isoleucine) and another in the rpsL gene (Lysine-43-Arginine) were detected. The blaOXA resistance gene was present in all isolates, the gyrA mutations was in 95.2% of C. jejuni and 80.0% of C. coli, and the tet(O) resistance gene in 76.2% of C. jejuni and 80.0% of C. coli. Additionally, 203 virulence-associated genes linked to 16 virulence factors were identified. In terms of phenotypic resistance, the C. jejuni isolates were all resistant to ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, and nalidixic acid, with lower levels of resistance to tetracycline (76.2%), tylosin (52.3%), erythromycin (23.8%), azithromycin (22.2%), and gentamicin (11.1%). Most C. coli isolates were resistant to all tested antimicrobials, while 1 C. coli was pan-susceptible except for tylosin. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms concordance varied widely, with differences of up to 13,375 single-nucleotide polymorphisms compared to the reference Campylobacter isolates, highlighting genetic divergence among comparative genomes. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the molecular epidemiology of Campylobacter spp. in Thai chicken production systems.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Chronic diseases account for most of the disease burden in low- and middle-income countries, particularly those in Asia. We reviewed literature on chronic disease risk factors in Viet Nam to identify patterns and data gaps. METHODS: All population-based studies published from 2000 to 2012 that reported chronic disease risk factors were considered. We used standard chronic disease terminology to search PubMed and assessed titles, abstracts, and articles for eligibility for inclusion. We summarized relevant study information in tables listing available studies, risk factors measured, and the prevalence of these risk factors. RESULTS: We identified 23 studies conducted before 2010. The most common age range studied was 25 to 64 years. Sample sizes varied, and sample frames were national in 5 studies. A combination of behavioral, physical, and biological risk factors was studied. Being overweight or obese was the most common risk factor studied (n = 14), followed by high blood pressure (n = 11) and tobacco use (n = 10). Tobacco and alcohol use were high among men, and tobacco use may be increasing among Vietnamese women. High blood pressure is common; however, people's knowledge that they have high blood pressure may be low. A high proportion of diets do not meet international criteria for fruit and vegetable consumption. Prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing. None of the studies evaluated measured dietary patterns or total caloric intake, and only 1 study measured dietary salt intake. CONCLUSION: Risk factors for chronic diseases are common in Viet Nam; however, more recent and context-specific information is required for planning and monitoring interventions to reduce risk factors and chronic disease in this country.

RESUMEN

Sea material is becoming increasingly popular and widely used as an adsorbent in wastewater treatment. Snail shell, a low-cost and natural animal waste material, has been shown to have a high calcium content (>99%) and a large potential surface area for the development of sustainable adsorbents. This paper presents a novel synthesis of methods for using snail shell absorbent materials in the treatment of wastewater containing heavy metals, textile dyes, and other organic substances. Modified biochar made from snail shells has gained popularity in recent years due to its numerous benefits. This paper discusses and analyzes modification methods, including impregnating with supplements, combining other adsorbents, synthesis of hydroxyapatite, co-precipitation, and the sol-gel method. The analysis of factors influencing adsorption efficiency revealed that pH, contact time, temperature, initial concentration, and adsorbent dose all have a significant impact on the adsorption process. Future research directions are also discussed in this paper as a result of presenting challenges for current snail adsorbents.

RESUMEN

Cadmium (Cd) contamination can pose a severe threat to food production and human health. The accumulation of Cd in rice will decrease rice biomass, photosynthetic activity, and antioxidant capacity, affecting crop yield. The effects of different nanobubbles on the growth and Cd accumulation of rice seedlings under hydroponic conditions were investigated in this study. The results showed that the biomass, photosynthetic pigment content, and antioxidant enzyme activity of rice seedlings decreased when treated with Cd alone and that Cd induced lipid peroxidation in rice seedlings. However, when different types of nanobubbles were introduced into the nutrient solution, the bioavailability of Cd in the solution was reduced. As a result, the Cd content in rice was significantly decreased compared to treatment with Cd alone. Nanobubbles increased the biomass of rice, enhanced photosynthesis, and improved the antioxidant capacity of rice by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities to alleviate Cd-induced oxidative stress. At the same time, nanobubbles increased the Fe content in rice, which decreased the Cd content, as Cd is antagonistic to Fe. In conclusion, these results suggested that nanobubbles are a potential method of mitigating Cd stress that may help to improve rice yield and could be further explored in production.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Mercaptopurine is an effective anticancer medicine yet known with serious adverse reactions, thus requiring further attempts to enhance its biological targeting. Small gold clusters Aun (n = 2-10) were used as model reactants to simulate the surface of gold nanoparticles. The computed results show that the drug molecules tend to anchor on the gold clusters at the S atom with the associated binding energies varying from -50 to -34 kcal mol-1 (in vacuum) and from -42 to -28 kcal mol-1 (in aqueous solution). Furthermore, the adsorption of the drug onto the gold surface is considered as a reversible process, and the mechanism of drug releasing was found to be triggerable by internal factors, such as a pH change or the concentrated presence of thiol amino acids in cancerous protein structures. METHOD: Calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) were performed to probe the nature of interactions between the drug and gold nanoparticles. Structural features, thermodynamic parameters, bonding characteristics, and electronic properties of the resulting complexes were investigated at the PBE//cc-pVTZ/cc-pVDZ-PP level.

RESUMEN

Lithium recovery is imperative to accommodate the increase in lithium demand. Salt lake brine contains a large amount of lithium and is one of the most important sources of lithium metal. In this study, Li2CO3, MnO2, and TiO2 particles were mixed, and the precursor of a manganese-titanium mixed ion sieve (M-T-LIS) was prepared by a high-temperature solid-phase method. M-T-LISs were obtained by DL-malic acid pickling. The adsorption experiment results noted single-layer chemical adsorption and maximum lithium adsorption of 32.32 mg/g. From the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller and scanning electron microscopy results, the M-T-LIS provided adsorption sites after DL-malic acid pickling. In addition, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared results showed the ion exchange mechanism of the M-T-LIS adsorption. From the results of the Li+ desorption experiment and recoverability experiment, DL-malic acid was used to desorb Li+ from the M-T-LIS with a desorption rate of more than 90%. During the fifth cycle, the Li+ adsorption capacity of the M-T-LIS was more than 20 mg/g (25.90 mg/g), and the recovery efficiency was higher than 80% (81.42%). According to the selectivity experiment, the M-T-LIS had good selectivity for Li+ (adsorption capacity of 25.85 mg/g in the artificial salt lake brine), which indicates its good application potential.
