RESUMEN

Optoelectronic devices consist of heterointerfaces formed between dissimilar semiconducting materials. The relative energy-level alignment between contacting semiconductors determinately affects the heterointerface charge injection and extraction dynamics. For perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the heterointerface between the top perovskite surface and a charge-transporting material is often treated for defect passivation1-4 to improve the PSC stability and performance. However, such surface treatments can also affect the heterointerface energetics1. Here we show that surface treatments may induce a negative work function shift (that is, more n-type), which activates halide migration to aggravate PSC instability. Therefore, despite the beneficial effects of surface passivation, this detrimental side effect limits the maximum stability improvement attainable for PSCs treated in this way. This trade-off between the beneficial and detrimental effects should guide further work on improving PSC stability via surface treatments.

RESUMEN

The importance of light management for perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has recently been emphasized because their power conversion efficiency approaches their theoretical thermodynamic limits. Among optical strategies, anti-reflection (AR) coating is the most widely used method to reduce reflectance loss and thus increase light-harvesting efficiency. Monolayer MgF2is a well-known AR material because of its optimal refractive index, simple fabrication process, and physical and chemical durabilities. Nevertheless, quantitative estimates of the improvement achieved by the MgF2AR layer are lacking. In this study, we conducted theoretical and experimental evaluations to assess the AR effect of MgF2on the performance of formamidinium lead-triiodide PSCs. A sinusoidal tendency to enhance the short-circuit current density (JSC) was observed depending on the thickness, which was attributed to the interference of the incident light. A transfer matrix method-based simulation was conducted to calculate the optical losses, demonstrating the critical impact of reflectance loss on theJSCimprovement. The predictedJSCs values, depending on the perovskite thickness and the incident angle, are also presented. The combined use of experimental and theoretical approaches offers notable advantages, including accurate interpretation of photocurrent generation, detailed optical analysis of the experimental results, and device performance predictions under unexplored conditions.

RESUMEN

In this paper, we propose a semantic segmentation-based static video stitching method to reduce parallax and misalignment distortion for sports stadium scenes with dynamic foreground objects. First, video frame pairs for stitching are divided into segments of different classes through semantic segmentation. Region-based stitching is performed on matched segment pairs, assuming that segments of the same semantic class are on the same plane. Second, to prevent degradation of the stitching quality of plain or noisy videos, the homography for each matched segment pair is estimated using the temporally consistent feature points. Finally, the stitched video frame is synthesized by stacking the stitched matched segment pairs and the foreground segments to the reference frame plane by descending order of the area. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by comparing the subjective quality, geometric distortion, and pixel distortion of video sequences stitched using the proposed and conventional methods. The proposed method is shown to reduce parallax and misalignment distortion in segments with plain texture or large parallax, and significantly improve geometric distortion and pixel distortion compared to conventional methods.

RESUMEN

In this paper, a multi-frame based homography estimation method is proposed for video stitching in static camera environments. A homography that is robust against spatio-temporally induced noise can be estimated by intervals, using feature points extracted during a predetermined time interval. The feature point with the largest blob response in each quantized location bin, a representative feature point, is used for matching a pair of video sequences. After matching representative feature points from each camera, the homography for the interval is estimated by random sample consensus (RANSAC) on the matched representative feature points, with their chances of being sampled proportional to their numbers of occurrences in the interval. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the per-frame method by investigating alignment distortion and stitching scores for daytime and noisy video sequence pairs. It is shown that alignment distortion in overlapping regions is reduced and the stitching score is improved by the proposed method. The proposed method can be used for panoramic video stitching with static video cameras and for panoramic image stitching with less alignment distortion.

RESUMEN

Metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are infamous for their batch-to-batch and lab-to-lab irreproducibility in terms of stability and performance. Reproducible fabrication of PSCs is a critical requirement for market viability and practical commercialization. PSC irreproducibility plagues all levels of the community; from institutional research laboratories, start-up companies, to large established corporations. In this work, the critical function of atmospheric humidity to regulate the crystallization and stabilization of formamidinium lead triiodide (FAPbI3) perovskites is unraveled. It is demonstrated that the humidity content during processing induces profound variations in perovskite stoichiometry, thermodynamic stability, and optoelectronic quality. Almost counterintuitively, it is shown that the presence of humidity is perhaps indispensable to reproduce phase-stable and efficient FAPbI3-based PSCs.

RESUMEN

Alloying noble metals with non-noble metals enables high activity while reducing the cost of electrocatalysts in fuel cells. However, under fuel cell operating conditions, state-of-the-art oxygen reduction reaction alloy catalysts either feature high atomic percentages of noble metals (>70%) with limited durability or show poor durability when lower percentages of noble metals (<50%) are used. Here, we demonstrate a highly-durable alloy catalyst derived by alloying PtPd (<50%) with 3d-transition metals (Cu, Ni or Co) in ternary compositions. The origin of the high durability is probed by in-situ/operando high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction coupled with pair distribution function analysis of atomic phase structures and strains, revealing an important role of realloying in the compressively-strained single-phase alloy state despite the occurrence of dealloying. The implication of the finding, a striking departure from previous perceptions of phase-segregated noble metal skin or complete dealloying of non-noble metals, is the fulfilling of the promise of alloy catalysts for mass commercialization of fuel cells.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: We aimed to the addition of synthetic 3-hydroxy-3-methyglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor, simvastatin to capecitabine-cisplatin (XP) in patients with previously untreated advanced gastric cancer (AGC). METHODS: In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase III study, we enrolled patients aged 18 years or older with histological or cytological confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma of the stomach or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) at nine centres in Korea. Patients, stratified by disease measurability and participating site, were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive capecitabine 1000mg/m(2) twice daily for 14 days and cisplatin 80 mg/m(2) on day 1 every 3 weeks plus either simvastatin 40 mg or placebo, once daily. Cisplatin was given for 8 cycles; capecitabine and simvastatin were administered until disease progression or unacceptable toxicities. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT01099085. RESULTS: Between February 2009 and November 2012, 244 patients were enrolled and assigned to treatment groups (120 simvastatin, 124 placebo). Median progression free survival (PFS) for 120 patients allocated XP plus simvastatin was 5.2 months (95% confidence interval (CI) 4.3-6.1) compared with 4.63 months (95% CI 3.5-5.7) for 124 patients who were allocated to XP plus placebo (hazard ratio 0.930, 95% CI 0.684-1.264; p=0.642). 63 (52.5%) of 120 patients in simvastatin group and 70 (56.4%) of 124 had grade 3 or higher adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: Addition of 40 mg simvastatin to XP does not increase PFS in our trial, although it does not increase toxicity. Low dose of simvastatin (40 mg) to chemotherapy is not recommended in untargeted population with AGC.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: When designing this trial, there was no evidence that salvage chemotherapy (SLC) in advanced gastric cancer (AGC) resulted in substantial prolongation of survival when compared with best supportive care (BSC). However, SLC is often offered to pretreated patients with AGC for anecdotal reasons. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with AGC with one or two prior chemotherapy regimens involving both fluoropyrimidines and platinum and with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (PS) 0 or 1 were randomly assigned in a ratio of 2:1 to SLC plus BSC or BSC alone. Choice of SLC-either docetaxel 60 mg/m(2) every 3 weeks or irinotecan 150 mg/m(2) every 2 weeks-was left to the discretion of investigators. Primary end point was overall survival (OS). RESULTS: Median OS was 5.3 months among 133 patients in the SLC arm and 3.8 months among 69 patients in the BSC arm (hazard ratio, 0.657; 95% CI, 0.485 to 0.891; one-sided P = .007). OS benefit for SLC was consistent in most of the prospectively defined subgroups, including age, PS, number of prior treatments, metastatic sites, hemoglobin levels, and response to prior chemotherapy. SLC was generally well tolerated, and adverse events were similar in the SLC and BSC arms. We found no median OS difference between docetaxel and irinotecan (5.2 v 6.5 months; P = .116). CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the largest phase III trial comparing SLC plus BSC with BSC alone in AGC. In pretreated patients, SLC is tolerated and significantly improves OS when added to BSC.
