Development of Unified Terminological System Based on UMLS: Experience and Perspectives.

This article presents experience in construction the National Unified Terminological System (NUTS) with an ontological structure based on international Unified Medical Language System (UMLS). UMLS has been adapted and enriched with formulations from national directories, relationships, extracted from the texts of scientific articles and electronic health records, and weight coefficients.

Digital Tools in UMLS Metathesaurus Knowledge Processing.

Clinical search engines development is actual task for medical informatics. The main issue in this area is to implement high-quality unstructured texts processing. Ontological interdisciplinary metathesaurus UMLS can be used to solve this problem. Currently, there is no unified method to relevant information aggregation from UMLS. In this research, we have presented the UMLS as graph model and performed the spot check of UMLS structure to identify basic problems. Then we created and integrated new graph metric in two created by us program modules for relevant knowledge aggregation from UMLS.

Ontologic Model of Diagnostics and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Bleedings of Unknown Origin.

The article presents the semantic model of diagnostics and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal bleedings when the reasons of bleeding cannot be establihed by means of a laboratory tests, endoscopy and colonoscopy.

A Medical Decisions Support System in Diagnosis of the Jejunum and Ileum Neoplastic Diseases (Tumors) Based on Video Capsule Endoscopy.

Search of tumors in video capsule endoscopy (VCE) record in some cases presents significant difficulties even for experienced specialist. We made an attempt to develop rules supporting clinical decision for processing of VCE images. An algorithm for assessment of neoplastic diseases of the jejunum and ileum on the basis of VCE to support tactical decision-making of doctors was conducted. The algorithm was implemented as a software module "The conclusion in a capsule" with integrated development environment Visual Studio and the programming language C#.

Knowledge Management within the Medical University.

The aim of the work is studying the possibilities of ontological engineering in managing of medical knowledge. And also practical implementation of knowledge management system (KMS) in medical university. The educational process model is established that allows analyzing learning results within time scale. Glossary sub-system has been developed; ontologies of educational disciplines are constructed; environment for setup and solution of situational cases is established; ontological approach to assess competencies is developed. The possibilities of the system for solving situation tasks have been described. The approach to the evaluation of competence has been developed.

Experience of development of the national surgical interventions coding system in Russia.

The paper discusses development issues of surgical procedures coding systems for use at the national and international levels within the health information systems. The work was carried out using the Russian and foreign experiences, including international standard ISO/FDIS 1828:2012. The development system structure contains basic categories of medical entities (axes): surgical deed and surgical subdeed, objects, site and interventional equipment. Abdominal surgeries (528 procedures) were entered in the coding system database and structured according defined categories.
