RESUMEN

The synthesis, properties and applications of a water-soluble boronate-functioned hemicyanine-naphthol hybrid as a novel ratiometric fluorescent sensor for hydrogen peroxide are presented. The dye displayed remarkable a colour change from pale orange (λ(em) = 590 nm) to pink (λ(em) = 690 nm) in the presence of H2O2, which could be rationalized by the chemoselective H2O2-mediated transformation of arylboronate to phenolate with high selectivity and a fast response (within 2 min). A good linear relationship (R(2) = 0.9951) was obtained with the H2O2 concentration ranging from 0 to 25 µM, with a limit of detection of 0.09 µM according to the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N = 3). The advantages of this fluorophore include easy modification, excellent aqueous solubility and superior photostability, and it has been applied to the detection of trace amounts of hydrogen peroxide in water samples.

RESUMEN

The fragmentation patterns of a novel series of dithiocarbamate derivatives with pharmaceutical activity were investigated by positive ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in conjunction with tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS(n)). In the gas phase, the dithiocarbamate protonated molecules containing the piperazinium moiety undergo losses of bromide to form the piperazinium cation by ionization, followed by subsequent losses of methyl bromide, ring opening and rearrangement of piperazinium. Furthermore, the dithiocarbamate derivatives and their intermediates both undergo cleavage of the C-S bond to produce two common fragment ions. The different fragmentation observed for these compounds facilitated their identification and could be valuable in the further study of their metabolic pathways as prodrugs.

RESUMEN

A series of fluorescent sensors based on 8-hydroxyquinoline dansylate as core and dendritic PAMAM as shell were synthesized. Their fluorescence characteristic and fluorescent sensing behavior toward metal ions were studied in water/methanol (1: 1, v/v). The sensors exhibit good selectivity and sensitivity for Fe(3+) ion and to some extent for Cr(3+) ion. The third generation dendrimer has the better sensitivity than the first and second generations.

A series of amino acid methyl ester hydrochlorides were prepared in good to excellent yields by the room temperature reaction of amino acids with methanol in the presence of trimethylchlorosilane. This method is not only compatible with natural amino acids, but also with other aromatic and aliphatic amino acids.

A series of dendritic 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) and 5-dialkyl(aryl)aminomethyl-8-HQ derivatives were synthesized and their fluoroionophoric properties toward representative alkali, alkaline earth, group IIIA and transition metal ions were investigated. Among the selected ions, Zn(II) enhanced the fluorescence of N-di-(methoxycarbonylethyl)aminoethyl-3-[4-(8-hydroxyquinolin-5-ylmethyl)piperazin-1-yl]-propanoic amide] (7) by 31-fold, while Al(III) caused enhancement to some extent. The absence of any significant fluorescence enhancement by the other ions examined renders 7a highly useful Zn(II)-selective fluorescent sensor.

RESUMEN

Furfural was oxidized to furoic acid by molecular oxygen under catalysis by 150 nm-sized Ag(2)O/CuO (92%) or simply CuO (86.6%). When 30 nm-size catalyst was used,the main product was a furfural Diels-Alder adduct. Detailed reaction conditions and regeneration of catalysts were investigated. Under optimal conditions, a series of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes were oxidized to the corresponding acids in good yields.

A series of 5-dialkyl(aryl)aminomethyl-8-hydroxyquinoline dansylates were synthesized and their fluoroionophoric properties toward representative alkali ions, alkaline earth ions and transition metal ions were investigated. Among the selected ions, Fe3+ caused considerable quenching of the fluorescence, while Cr3+ caused quenching to some extent. The absence of any significant fluorescence quenching effects of the other ions examined, especially Fe2+, renders these compounds highly useful Fe3+-selective fluorescent sensors.

The fragmentation patterns of a series of dispirocyclopiperazinium dibromides with strong analgesic activity are analyzed by positive ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in conjunction with tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS(n)). Instead of the parent molecular ions, the fragment ions [M-Br](+) are detected as characteristic double peaks and usually the base peaks. Meanwhile, the fragment ions [M-2Br](2+) are unique for this series of diquaternary ammonium dibromides and show high intensity. Besides the common fragmentation patterns around the carbonyl group, elimination of hydrogen bromide from [M--Br](+) ions is another important pathway. Following the elimination, an interesting rearrangement takes place in the unsaturated spirocyclopiperazine and transforms it into a dihydropyrrole structure, whose fragmentations are similar to its precursor ion in the succeeding steps.

RESUMEN

The synthesis of two novel dendritic aluminum and zinc quinolates, which are soluble in common solvents, was monitored effectively by positive ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Through tandem mass spectrometric analysis of the complexes, distinct fragmentation pathways for sodium adduct molecular ion [M+Na]+ and protonated molecular ion [M+H]+ were observed.
