RESUMEN

Predicting the stock market is one of the significant chores and has a successful prediction of stock rates, and it helps in making correct decisions. The prediction of the stock market is the main challenge due to blaring, chaotic data as well as non-stationary data. In this research, the support vector machine (SVM) is devised for performing an effective stock market prediction. At first, the input time series data is considered and the pre-processing of data is done by employing a standard scalar. Then, the time intrinsic features are extracted and the suitable features are selected in the feature selection stage by eliminating other features using recursive feature elimination. Afterwards, the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) based prediction is done, wherein LSTM is trained to employ Aquila circle-inspired optimization (ACIO) that is newly introduced by merging Aquila optimizer (AO) with circle-inspired optimization algorithm (CIOA). On the other hand, delay-based matrix formation is conducted by considering input time series data. After that, convolutional neural network (CNN)-based prediction is performed, where CNN is tuned by the same ACIO. Finally, stock market prediction is executed utilizing SVM by fusing the predicted outputs attained from LSTM-based prediction and CNN-based prediction. Furthermore, the SVM attains better outcomes of minimum mean absolute percentage error; (MAPE) and normalized root-mean-square error (RMSE) with values about 0.378 and 0.294.

RESUMEN

Determinants of anticipated acceptance of an oral cholera vaccine (OCV) were studied in urban and rural communities of Western Kenya. An explanatory model interview administered to 379 community residents assessed anticipated vaccine acceptance at various prices from no cost to full-cost recovery, socio-cultural features of cholera and social characteristics. Nearly all (99%) residents indicated willingness to accept a no-cost OCV, 95% at a price of US$ 0·8, 73% at US$ 4·2 and 59% at US$ 8·4. Logistic regression models analysed socio-cultural determinants of anticipated OCV acceptance. Prominence of non-specific symptoms for cholera was negatively associated with acceptance. A cholera-specific symptom (thirst), self-help referring to prayer, income and education were positively associated. In the high-cost model, education was no longer significant and reliance on herbal treatment was a significant determinant of vaccine non-acceptance. Findings suggest high motivation for OCVs, if affordable. Socio-cultural determinants are better predictors of anticipated acceptance than socio-demographic factors alone.

RESUMEN

A Li-rich layered oxide (LLO) cathode with morphology-dependent electrochemical performance with the composition Li1.23Mn0.538Ni0.117Co0.114O2 in three different microstructural forms, namely, randomly shaped particles, platelets, and nanofibers, is synthesized through the solid-state reaction (SSR-LLO), hydrothermal method (HT-LLO), and electrospinning process (ES-LLO), respectively. Even though the cathodes possess different morphologies, structurally they are identical. The elemental dispersion studies using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy mapping in scanning transmission electron microscopy show uniform distribution of elements. However, SSR-LLO and ES-LLO nanofibers show slight Co-rich regions. The electrochemical studies of LLO cathodes are evaluated in terms of charging/discharging, C-rate capability, and cyclic stability performances. A high reversible capacity of 275 mA h g-1 is achieved in the fibrous LLO cathode which also demonstrates good high-rate capability (80 mA h g-1 at 10 C-rate). These capacities and rate capabilities are superior to those of SSR-LLO [210.5 mA h g-1 (0.1 C-rate) and 4 mA h g-1 (3 C-rate)] and HT-LLO [242 mA h g-1 (0.1 C-rate) and 22 mA h g-1 (10 C-rate)] cathodes. The ES-LLO cathode exhibits 88% capacity retention after 100 cycles at 1 C-rate. A decrease in voltage on cycling is found to be common in all three cathodes; however, minimal voltage decay and capacity loss are observed in ES-LLO upon cycling. Well-connected small LLO particles constituting fibrous microstructural forms in ES-LLO provide an enhanced electrolyte/cathode interfacial area and reduced diffusion path length for Li+. This, in turn, facilitates superior electrochemical performance of the electrospun Co-low LLO cathode suitable for quick charge battery applications.

RESUMEN

The influence of tubule orientation on the transition from fatigue to fatigue crack growth in human dentin was examined. Compact tension (CT) and rectangular beam specimens were prepared from the coronal dentin of molars with three unique tubule orientations (i.e., 0 degrees , 45 degrees and 90 degrees). The CT specimens (N=25) were used to characterize fatigue crack initiation and steady-state cyclic extension, whereas the rectangular beams (N=132) were subjected to 4-pt flexure and used in quantifying the stress-life fatigue response. The transition behavior was analyzed using both the Kitagawa-Takahashi and El Haddad approaches. Results showed that both the fatigue crack growth and stress-life responses were dependent on the tubule orientation. The average Paris Law exponent for crack growth perpendicular (90 degrees) to the tubules (m=13.3+/-1.1) was significantly greater (p<0.05) than that for crack growth oblique (45 degrees) to the tubules (m=11.5+/-1.87). Similarly, the fatigue strength of dentin with 90 degrees tubule orientation was significantly lower (p<0.05) than that for the other two orientations, regardless of the range of cyclic stress. The apparent endurance strengths of specimens with 0 degrees (44MPa) and 45 degrees (53MPa) orientations were nearly twice that of the 90 degrees (24MPa) orientation. Based on these results, human dentin exhibits the largest degree of anisotropy within the stress-life regime and the transition from fatigue to fatigue crack growth occurs under the lowest cyclic stress range when the tubules are aligned with the cyclic normal stress (90 degrees orientation).

RESUMEN

An experimental study of fatigue crack growth in dentin was conducted, and the influence of stress ratio (R) on the crack growth rate and mechanisms of cyclic extension were examined. Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) fatigue specimens were sectioned from bovine molars and then subjected to high cycle fatigue loading (10(5) < N < 10(6)) under hydrated conditions. The evaluation consisted of Mode I loads with stress ratios that ranged from -0.5 to 0.5. The fatigue crack growth rates were measured and used to estimate the crack growth exponent (m) and coefficient (C) according to the Paris Law model. The fatigue crack growth rates for steady-state extension (Region II) ranged from 1E-7 to 1E-4 mm/cycle. It was found that the rate of cyclic extension increased significantly with increasing R, and that the highest average crack growth rate occurred at a stress ratio of 0.5. However, the crack growth exponent decreased with increasing R from an average of 4.6 (R = 0.10) to 2.7 (R = 0.50). The stress intensity threshold for crack growth decreased with increasing R as well. Results from this study suggest that an increase in the cyclic stress ratio facilitates fatigue crack growth in dentin and increases the rate of cyclic extension, both of which are critical concerns in minimizing tooth fractures and maintaining lifelong oral health.

RESUMEN

Proximal tibial osteotomy is commonly performed for osteoarthritis of the knee with deformity. The results of 105 dome osteotomies have been reviewed at a minimum follow-up of one year and an average of 4.8 years. Before operation all the knees were painful, 50.5% severely; a further 45.7% disturbed sleep at night. At review 15.2% of knees were free of pain and 60% had only slight pain which did not restrict activity. The preoperative range of movement was maintained and there was only a slight tendency for radiological changes to progress, with actual improvement in some cases. No correlation was found between the correction of deformity to physiological valgus and the result. We cannot explain why tibial osteotomy produces such useful and sustained pain relief.

RESUMEN

A retrospective study of two-weekly incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in the under-five children of rural area of Alwar District (Rajasthan) based on the previous fourteen days' recall by the mothers was undertaken during December 1989 to assess the magnitude of the problem and its' risk factors. The two-weekly ARI incidence was reported to be 33 episodes per 100 under-fives. Mothers in higher socio-economic strata reported higher incidence of ARI for their children due to more accurate recall. Majority of ARI cases (76 per cent) were found to be of mild degree. 26 per cent of deaths in under-fives during the previous year were reported to be ARI-related. 50 per cent of ARI cases were left untreated. Among the treated group, private practitioners were found to be the main source of health care.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Stress is an important health area of concern among bank employees. The study aims to assess the stress level and its associated factors among bank employees. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 192 bank employees in urban Puducherry, India. Stress level was assessed by Cohen's Perceived Stress scale and classified into low (0-11), average (12-15), high (16-20), and very high (21 and above) based on the stress scores. Collected data were analyzed by using univariate analysis. RESULTS: Majority of them had high and very high level of stress (75.5%, confidence interval: 69.4-81.6%). The variables that include age group, sex, category of work, smoking and alcohol use were not found to be significantly associated with the stress level (P > 0.05). With respect to question items, handling personal problems and things were going their way were answered as fairly often and very often by the majority of the subjects. CONCLUSION: Stress level among bank employees is high, which necessitates intervention measures for this vulnerable group.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: There is paucity of information on the prevalence of hypertension and its risk factors among bank employees at global level. OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence and risk factors of hypertension among bank employees in Puducherry, India. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 192 (128 male and 64 female) bank employees from 12 nationalized banks in urban Puducherry, India. Blood pressure was measured and classified according to the Joint National Committee (JNC) VII criteria. Data on risk factors of hypertension, including consumption of extra salt while dining, eating high-salt food, junk food, servings of fruits and vegetables, smoking, alcohol use, physical activity, and body mass index, were obtained for each participant using a standard questionnaire. Stress level was assessed by Cohen's Perceived Stress scale. Data was analyzed by Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: The mean±SD age of the participants was 39.5±10.6 years. The prevalence of hypertension and pre-hypertension was 44.3% (95% CI: 37.2%-51.3%) and 41.1% (95% CI: 34.1%-48.1%), respectively. Of 85 participants with hypertension, 47 (55%) was known case and 38 (45%) were newly diagnosed. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that living in the 4th (OR: 3.13) or 6th (OR: 3.11) decade of life, consumption of extra salt (OR: 2.49), and physical activity ≥2 hours per day (OR: 0.21) were associated with hypertension among bank employees. CONCLUSION: Prevalence of hypertension is high among bank employees. There is a need for strengthening adoption of certain interventional measures in lifestyle such as reducing salt intake and promoting physical activity among this vulnerable group.

RESUMEN

The combined local structure techniques, extended x-ray absorption fine structure and neutron pair distribution function analysis, have been used for temperatures 4< or =T< or =330 K to rule out a large Jahn-Teller (JT) distortion of the Co-O bond in La1-xSrxCoO3 for a significant fraction of Co sites (x< or =0.35), indicating few, if any, JT-active, singly occupied e_{g} Co sites exist.

RESUMEN

Although striations are often used in evaluating fatigue crack growth in engineering materials, they have not been used in studying the mechanics of fracture in hard tissues. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the striations resulting from fatigue crack growth in the dentin of human teeth. Compact tension (CT) specimens obtained from the coronal dentin of molars from young (17 < or = age < or = 37 years) and senior (age > or = 50 years) patients were subjected to cyclic Mode I loads. Striations evident on the fracture surfaces were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and contact profilometer. Fatigue crack growth striations that developed in vivo were also examined on fracture surfaces of restored molars. A power spectrum analysis of surface profiles from the CT specimens showed that the striation spacing ranged from 50 to 170 microm. The average spacing in the dentin of seniors (130 +/- 23 microm) was significantly larger (p < 0.001) than that in young dentin (88 +/- 13 microm). Fatigue striations in the restored teeth exhibited features that were consistent with those that developed in vitro and a spacing ranging from 59 to 95 microm. Unlike metals, the striations in dentin developed after a period of cyclic loading that ranged from 1 x 10(3) to 1 x 10(5) cycles. A quantitative evaluation of the striation spacing using the Bates-Clark equation suggested that cyclic crack growth within the restored teeth occurred at a stress intensity range near 0.7 MPa x m(0.5), and a stress range of approximately 12 MPa.

RESUMEN

Heterotopic ossification is a well-recognized complication of total hip arthroplasty. In a retrospective survey of 98 total hip arthroplasties in ankylosing spondylitis performed between 1970 and 1977, 39.8% showed some evidences of heterotopic ossification. Restriction of hip movements was noted in only two. Heterotopic ossification occurred within one year and was higher (64.6%) in patients with bilateral hip replacements if there was evidence of heterotopic bone formation in one hip. The complications were relatively high in hips with previous operations (55%); trochanteric bursitis (50%); and trochanteric detachment (63.3%). No correlation was found between high erythrocyte sedimentation rate and the incidence or extent of heterotopic bone formation.

RESUMEN

We reviewed 31 patients who underwent modified Bosworth procedures for grade III acromioclavicular dislocation. Their average age at the time of surgery was 32.5 years (range 18-60 years) and the mean follow-up was 11.6 years (range 5-20.6 years). The operation was performed for young, active individuals engaged in heavy manual work, in those who wished to return to contact sports and in patients with prominent clinical deformity. The results were analysed using the criteria suggested by Imatani et al. (1975). Of the patients, 24 (77 per cent) had excellent or good results and seven (23 per cent) had fair or poor results. There was no correlation between the radiological findings and the clinical results.

RESUMEN

We examined the effect of the trace element selenium on human glioma cell lines: T98G, U373MG, and U87MG, in addition to dermal fibroblast cells. Cultures were incubated with sodium selenite, and the following parameters were studied: cell growth, mitochondrial function, and ultrastructure. Cell growth was assayed by counting the number of viable cells after treatment with selenium. Mitochondrial function was analyzed using the MTT (tetrazolium salt reduction) assay. Apoptosis was determined by evaluating nuclear chromatin condensation by electron microscopy. The results indicated that selenium had a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of the tumor cells but had little effect upon dermal fibroblasts which had been passaged numerous times. Selenium also induced mitochondrial damage as shown by MTT assay in two brain tumor cell lines and in minimally passaged fibroblasts, but it had little effect upon the high-passage fibroblasts. Ultrastructurally, mitochondria had electron-dense inclusions resulting from selenium treatment. High rates of apoptosis were induced by selenium in the tumor cell lines and in the minimally passaged fibroblasts, whereas the fibroblasts with a high number of passages had some resistance to selenium treatment. This study correlates the adverse effects of selenium on mitochondrial function, inhibition of cell growth, and apoptosis and shows that selenium similarly affects three different brain tumor cell lines and minimally passaged fibroblasts. Further, the results with fibroblasts show that some types of cells after repeated passages can develop resistance to selenium damage.

RESUMEN

Internal pancreatic fistulas are rare but debilitating complications of chronic pancreatitis. Fistulous tracts from the pancreatic duct to the peritoneal or pleural cavities have been treated by medical therapy and surgical management, with success rates of 41% and 89%, respectively. Endoscopic stent placement for internal and external pancreatic fistulas has also been shown effective. We report on three patients with histories of chronic alcohol abuse and pancreatitis. Two patients presented with dyspnea and pleuritic chest pain. Imaging studies revealed pleural effusions, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) demonstrated a patent fistulous tract from the pancreatic duct to the pleural cavity in each patient. Chemical analysis of the pleural fluid indicated pancreatic origin. The third patient, who had left-upper-quadrant abdominal pain and a small pleural effusion, had a large noncommunicating pseudocyst adjacent to the stomach. Nasopancreatic drains, along with chest tube drainage, were placed in the patients with pancreatic pleural fistulas. The patient with the pseudocyst received nasocystic drainage via the stomach. Drainage was measured until closure of the fistulas or cyst. Additionally, simply by injecting contrast medium, we were able to monitor the closure of fistulas without ERCP. The fistulas closed within 7 days, and the pseudocyst resolved within 14 days. Following discharge, all three patients were pain free, without evidence of recurrent fistulas or pseudocyst. In conclusion, the use of nasopancreatic/cyst drainage is an effective and convenient way to treat internal, communicating collections and pseudocysts of pancreatic origin. Furthermore, this method provides a simple means of assessing closure of fistulas and pseudocysts.
