This study evaluates the efficacy of [131I]I-ERIC1 in targeting and inhibiting the growth of SCLC tumors in mice, focusing on tumor accumulation and regression and potential side effects. NCAM-positive NCI-H69 SCLC cells were implanted in CB 17 SCID mice, and [131I]I-ERIC1 biokinetics were measured in organs and tissues at four post-injection time points (24, 72, 96, and 120 h). The experimental series compared tumor growth, survival, and changes in blood counts among three treatment groups (1, 2, or 3 MBq) and a control group, with treatments initiated either two or five days post implantation. [131I]I-ERIC1 was synthesized with >95% radiochemical purity and a specific activity of 15 TBq/mmol. Tumor activity peaked at 31.5 ± 6.6% ID/g after four days, demonstrating significant antitumor efficacy, which resulted in sustained remission and extended survival. Hematological toxicity was observed, with the optimal dose identified as 2 MBq per animal administered two days post implantation. [131I]I-ERIC1 shows promise as a theranostic agent for personalized cancer treatment by effectively targeting SCLC tumors with manageable side effects. However, further studies are required to optimize dosing strategies and minimize toxicity.

Background and Objectives: According to the Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock (Sepsis-3), sepsis is defined as "life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection". The increased presence of free radicals causes an increase in oxidative stress. Vitamin C is an essential water-soluble vitamin with antioxidant activity and immunoregulatory effects that plays a potential role in the treatment of bacterial infections. Our aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of adding vitamin C to the conventional treatment of sepsis to decrease its mortality rate. Materials and Methods: In a prospective cohort study, we included patients with a diagnosis of sepsis and a SOFA score ≥ 9 who were evaluated in an Intensive Care Unit at a secondary-care hospital. According to the intensive care specialist, they were treated using two different strategies: Group 1-patients with sepsis treated with conventional treatment without vitamin C; Group 2-patients with sepsis with the addition of vitamin C to conventional treatment. Results: We included 34 patients with sepsis. The incidence of mortality was 38%, and 47% of patients used vitamin C as an adjuvant to the basic treatment of sepsis. In the basal analyses, patients treated with use of vitamin C compared to patients treated without vitamin C required less use of glucocorticoids (75% vs. 100%, p = 0.039). At follow-up, patients treated without vitamin C had higher mortality than patients treated with vitamin C as an adjuvant for the treatment of sepsis (55.6% vs. 18.8%, p = 0.03). We observed that the use of vitamin C was a protective factor for mortality in patients with sepsis (RR: 0.54, 95% CI: 0.31-0.96, p = 0.03). Conclusions: The use of vitamin C as an adjuvant to treatment decreases the risk of mortality by 46% in patients with sepsis and SOFA ≥ 9 compared to patients treated without vitamin C as an adjuvant to sepsis.

The preparation of 24 estrogens, their estrogen receptor (ER) affinity and studies of radioiodinated estrogen binding to ER-positive male bladder tumor cells (HTB9) are described. The estrogens with the highest affinity were selected using fluorescence anisotropy assays. A 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl group at the 11ß-position caused particularly promising affinity. (Radio)iodination was performed on the 17α-vinyl group. Binding studies on HTB9 cells revealed picomolar affinities of radioconjugates 19 and 31, indicating promising ability for targeting of urogenital tumors.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic floor dysfunction in women encompasses a wide range of clinical disorders: urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, and pelvic-perineal region pain syndrome. A literature review did not identify any articles addressing the prevalence of all pelvic floor dysfunctions. OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence of the group of pelvic floor disorders and the factors associated with the development of these disorders in women. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This observational study was conducted with women during 2021 and 2022 in Spain. Sociodemographic and employment data, previous medical history and health status, lifestyle and habits, obstetric history, and health problems were collected through a self-developed questionnaire. The Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) was used to assess the presence and impact of pelvic floor disorders. Pearson's Chi-Square, Odds Ratio (OR) and adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR) with their respective 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. RESULTS: One thousand four hundred forty-six women participated. Urinary incontinence occurred in 55.8% (807) of the women, fecal incontinence in 10.4% (150), symptomatic uterine prolapse in 14.0% (203), and 18.7% (271) reported pain in the pelvic area. The following were identified as factors that increase the probability of urinary incontinence: menopausal status. For fecal incontinence: having had instrumental births. Factors for pelvic organ prolapse: number of vaginal births, one, two or more. Factors for pelvic pain: the existence of fetal macrosomia. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of pelvic floor dysfunction in women is high. Various sociodemographic factors such as age, having a gastrointestinal disease, having had vaginal births, and instrumental vaginal births are associated with a greater probability of having pelvic floor dysfunction. Health personnel must take these factors into account to prevent the appearance of these dysfunctions.

The interdisciplinary possibilities inherent in nuclear medicine offer an opportunity for the patient-centered development of radioactive pharmaceuticals based on specific research questions. This approach provides radiopharmaceutical manufacturers with a robust scientific foundation on which to navigate the regulatory requirements for drug approval laid down by the law. A vivid illustration of this interdisciplinary cooperation has been the development of a Zr-89-labeled PSMA ligand where reliable results have been obtained across various domains, including chemistry, radiochemistry, biochemistry, and preclinical research. This comprehensive process extended to feasibility studies conducted with carefully selected patients from a single nuclear medicine clinic. The approach demonstrates how far close collaboration between different disciplines within nuclear medicine can further the move towards patient-oriented radiopharmaceutical treatments while simultaneously meeting regulatory demands. With such a strategy, innovative radiopharmaceutical solutions can be brought to the market more swiftly and efficiently, in line with the needs of patients.

BACKGROUND: Maternal stress and psychopathology have a negative effect on mothers and neonates. Maternal stress may affect neonatal growth and development both physically and psychologically. PURPOSE: To study the impact of pandemic-related pregnancy stress and maternal psychopathological symptoms during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 on neonatal development. METHODS: A two-phase prospective study was carried out on a sample of 181 pregnant women ranged from 18 to 40 years old in Spain (Europe). Phase 1: Pandemic-related pregnancy stress (PREPS), Prenatal Distress Questionnaire (PDQ), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the revised version of the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90-R) were used to assess psychological symptoms during the lockdown. In the follow-up (Phase 2), obstetric, birth-related and anthropometric variables were collected from 81 pregnant women-neonates dyads. RESULTS: Primiparous women showed higher psychopathological symptoms and higher levels of pandemic-related pregnancy stress than multiparous women. A multiple linear regression model showed that pandemic-related pregnancy stress could predict the length of neonate by adjusting for maternal age and gestational age, especially for primiparous women. IMPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH: Studies assessing neonates development should evaluate the long-term effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on neonates´ length. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: States the relation between pandemic-related pregnancy stress and neonatal development by being able to track the effects on neonates whose mothers had high levels of stress during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Obesity is an epidemic disease worldwide, characterized by excessive fat accumulation associated with several metabolic perturbations, such as metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. To improve this situation, a specific combination of metabolic cofactors (MC) (betaine, N-acetylcysteine, L-carnitine, and nicotinamide riboside) was assessed as a promising treatment in a high-fat diet (HFD) mouse model. Obese animals were distributed into two groups, orally treated with the vehicle (obese + vehicle) or with the combination of metabolic cofactors (obese + MC) for 4 weeks. Body and adipose depots weights; insulin and glucose tolerance tests; indirect calorimetry; and thermography assays were performed at the end of the intervention. Histological analysis of epidydimal white adipose tissue (EWAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT) was carried out, and the expression of key genes involved in both fat depots was characterized by qPCR. We demonstrated that MC supplementation conferred a moderate reduction of obesity and adiposity, an improvement in serum glucose and lipid metabolic parameters, an important improvement in lipid oxidation, and a decrease in adipocyte hypertrophy. Moreover, MC-treated animals presented increased adipose gene expression in EWAT related to lipolysis and fatty acid oxidation. Furthermore, MC supplementation reduced glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, with an increased expression of the glucose transporter Glut4; and decreased fat accumulation in BAT, raising non-shivering thermogenesis. This treatment based on a specific combination of metabolic cofactors mitigates important pathophysiological characteristics of obesity, representing a promising clinical approach to this metabolic disease.

The gut is a selective barrier that not only allows the translocation of nutrients from food, but also microbe-derived metabolites to the systemic circulation that flows through the liver. Microbiota dysbiosis occurs when energy imbalances appear due to an unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Dysbiosis has a critical impact on increasing intestinal permeability and epithelial barrier deterioration, contributing to bacterial and antigen translocation to the liver, triggering non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) progression. In this study, the potential therapeutic/beneficial effects of a combination of metabolic cofactors (a multi-ingredient; MI) (betaine, N-acetylcysteine, L-carnitine, and nicotinamide riboside) against NAFLD were evaluated. In addition, we investigated the effects of this metabolic cofactors' combination as a modulator of other players of the gut-liver axis during the disease, including gut barrier dysfunction and microbiota dysbiosis. Diet-induced NAFLD mice were distributed into two groups, treated with the vehicle (NAFLD group) or with a combination of metabolic cofactors (NAFLD-MI group), and small intestines were harvested from all animals for histological, molecular, and omics analysis. The MI treatment ameliorated gut morphological changes, decreased gut barrier permeability, and reduced gene expression of some proinflammatory cytokines. Moreover, epithelial cell proliferation and the number of goblet cells were increased after MI supplementation. In addition, supplementation with the MI combination promoted changes in the intestinal microbiota composition and diversity, as well as modulating short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) concentrations in feces. Taken together, this specific combination of metabolic cofactors can reverse gut barrier disruption and microbiota dysbiosis contributing to the amelioration of NAFLD progression by modulating key players of the gut-liver axis.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to determine whether there is an association between clinical practices carried out during spontaneous vaginal birth (SVB), or clinical situations that arise during vaginal birth, and the incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). METHODS: A cross-sectional study with 839 puerperal women in Spain was conducted. The Perinatal Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Questionnaire (PPQ) was administered online. The relationship between the risk of postpartum PTSD and various intrapartum complications was studied in addition to practices or procedures performed during the intrapartum period. RESULTS: PTSD (PPQ scores ≥19) was identified in 8.1% (68) of the women who participated. Among the risk factors for PTSD was a concerning intrapartum FHR tracing (adjusted OR: 2.24, 95% CI: 1.07-4.66). Other intrapartum practices also put women at risk of PTSD, including the administration of an enema (aOR: 7.01, 95% CI: 2.14-23.01), being required to stay lying down throughout the labor and birth (aOR: 5.75, 95% CI: 3.25-10.19), artificial amniorrhexis without consent (aOR: 2.28, 95% CI: 1.31-3.97), administration of synthetic oxytocin without consent (aOR: 2.18, 95% CI: 1.26-3.77), fundal pressure during pushing (aOR: 3.14, 95% CI: 1.72-5.73), repeated vaginal examinations performed by different people (aOR: 4.84, 95% CI: 2.77-8.47), and manual removal of the placenta without anesthesia (aOR: 3.45, 95% CI: 1.81-6.58). CONCLUSIONS: Various intrapartum clinical practices, all related to dehumanized treatment, and intrapartum complications, were associated with an increased risk of PTSD. There is a need to eradicate obstetric mistreatment and to increase access to evidence-informed, respectful care in Spain. Care practitioners need to better appreciate their roles in preventing PTSD.

BACKGROUND: Real-world data are essential to accurately assessing efficacy and toxicity of approved agents in everyday practice. PRINCIPAL, a prospective, observational study, was designed to confirm the real-world safety and efficacy of pazopanib in patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). SUBJECTS, MATERIALS, AND METHODS: Patients with clear cell advanced/metastatic RCC and a clinical decision to initiate pazopanib treatment within 30 days of enrollment were eligible. Primary objectives included progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), objective response rate (ORR), relative dose intensity (RDI) and its effect on treatment outcomes, change in health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and safety. We also compared characteristics and outcomes of clinical-trial-eligible (CTE) patients, defined using COMPARZ trial eligibility criteria, with those of non-clinical-trial-eligible (NCTE) patients. Secondary study objectives were to evaluate clinical efficacy, safety, and RDI in patient subgroups. RESULTS: Six hundred fifty-seven patients were enrolled and received ≥1 dose of pazopanib. Median PFS and OS were 10.3 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 9.2-12.0) and 29.9 months (95% CI, 24.7 to not reached), respectively, and the ORR was 30.3%. HRQoL showed no or little deterioration over time. Treatment-related serious adverse events (AEs) and AEs of special interest occurred in 64 (9.7%), and 399 (60.7%) patients, respectively. More patients were classified NCTE than CTE (85.2% vs. 14.8%). Efficacy of pazopanib was similar between the two groups. CONCLUSION: PRINCIPAL confirms the efficacy and safety of pazopanib in patients with advanced/metastatic RCC in a real-world clinical setting. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: PRINCIPAL is the largest (n = 657) prospective, observational study of pazopanib in patients with advanced/metastatic renal cell carcinoma, to the authors' knowledge. Consistent with clinical trial results that often contain specific patient types, the PRINCIPAL study demonstrated that the effectiveness and safety of pazopanib is similarly safe and effective in patients with advanced kidney cancer in a real-world clinical setting. The PRINCIPAL study showed that patients with advanced kidney cancer who are treated with first-line pazopanib generally do not show disease progression for approximately 10 months and generally survive for nearly 30 months.

BACKGROUND: To describe the patterns of second-line treatment of patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) after docetaxel treatment in a Spanish population, to identify the factors associated with those patterns, and to compare the efficacy and safety of the treatments most frequently administered. METHODS: Observational, prospective study conducted in patients with histologically or cytologically confirmed prostate adenocarcinoma; documented metastatic castration-resistant disease; progression after first-line, docetaxel-based chemotherapy with or without other agents. RESULTS: Of the 150 patients recruited into the study, 100 patients were prescribed abiraterone acetate plus prednisone (AAP), 44 patients received cabazitaxel plus prednisone (CP), and 6 patients received other treatments. Age (odds ratio [OR] 1.06, 95% [confidence interval] CI 1.01 to 1.11) and not elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels (OR 0.33, 95% CI 0.14 to 0.76) were independently associated with the administration of AAP. Treatment with AAP was associated with significantly longer clinical/radiographic progression-free survival (hazard ratio [HR] 0.57, 95% CI 0.38 to 0.85) and overall survival (OS; HR 0.40, 95% CI 0.21 to 0.76) compared to CP, while no significant differences between the treatments were found regarding biochemical progression-free survival (PFS; HR 0.78 [95% CI 0.49 to 1.24]). However, in a post-hoc Cox regression analysis adjusted for potential confounders there were not differences between AAP and CP in any of the time-to-event outcomes, including overall survival. We observed no new safety signals related to either regimen. CONCLUSION: Second-line AAP for patients with mCRPC is the most common treatment strategy after progression with a docetaxel-based regimen. When controlling for potential confounders, patients receiving this treatment showed no differences in PFS and OS in comparison to those receiving CP, although these latter results should be confirmed in randomized controlled trials.

After progression during first-line treatment in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), a large percentage of patients are candidates for second-line treatment. The majority do not have epidermal growth factor receptor-activating mutations (EGFRwt). This article reviews the treatment options available for this subpopulation of patients, which includes essentially docetaxel, pemetrexed and erlotinib. These drugs all have similar efficacy, both in terms of objective response rates and overall survival, although with different toxicity profiles. In view of the similar efficacy of the three agents (docetaxel, pemetrexed and erlotinib) in the second-line treatment of NSCLC in the EGFRwt population, and although there are no prospective studies on predictive variables or new molecular markers available, selection of the treatment will depend on the histological type (pemetrexed); patient preference (oral as opposed to intravenous formulation); the presence of comorbid conditions; quality of life; previous or residual toxicities; the risk of neutropenia; response to and the duration of the first-line chemotherapy; and history of smoking.

Docetaxel is the standard first-line chemotherapy for men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Until recently, there was no standard therapy after failure of docetaxel treatment. Cabazitaxel has been shown to improve overall survival in this setting. As a result, the treatment paradigm for mCRPC is changing rapidly. The improved survival shown with cabazitaxel provides an important new opportunity to treat men with mCRPC after docetaxel treatment. Despite the toxicity recorded in the pivotal study, subsequent trials have shown that cabazitaxel is a safe drug. Patient selection and the optimal interval between prior docetaxel treatment and cabazitaxel remain the critical issues. According to a subanalysis of the various studies discussed in this review, there is a patient profile that will probably benefit from use of cabazitaxel after docetaxel failure. Cabazitaxel represents a new treatment option for patients with prostate cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Sexual dysfunction in women is usually associated with the menopausal transition and menopause; however, there are factors that can also influence the sexual function of women in menopause. The aim of this study is to determine the association between pelvic floor disorders and sexual dysfunction in women in menopause. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Spain with menopausal women recruited by convenience sampling. Data were collected on background and health status. To evaluate the presence of pelvic floor problems, the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) was used. Regarding the evaluation of female sexual function, the validated Sexual Function of Women (FSM-2) tool was used. Crude (OR) and adjusted odds ratios (AOR) were obtained using the SPSS 28.0 statistical program. RESULTS: A total of 197 women participated. The mean age was 57.7 years (SD=8.4), 51.3% (101 women) reported experiencing some form of sexual dysfunction. Despite this, the majority (79.5%; 155 women) indicated that they were satisfied with their sexual health. However, 25.5% (50 women) mentioned they faced difficulties when trying to initiate sexual intercourse. Additionally, 22.9% (45 women) reported having moderate to severe issues achieving orgasm. Furthermore, 29% (57 women) stated that they had never or only occasionally felt arousal in the past month. Women who experienced urinary incontinence and pelvic pain had a higher frequency of sexual dysfunction. The main associated factor observed was the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction through the PFDI-20 scale. For each point of this instrument, there was a small but increased risk of sexual dysfunction (OR=1.01; p<0.001). Type of birth or maternal disorders, such mental illness or gastrointestinal disorder, did not show any statistical association with sexual dysfunction. CONCLUSIONS: Pelvic floor dysfunctions symptoms in menopausal women are associated with their sexual health. Pelvic floor dysfunctions that influence sexual function are colorectal, urinary, and prolapse. Pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence and pelvic pain are those that most influence sexual function.

Portal hypertension represents the primary non-neoplastic complication of liver cirrhosis and has life-threatening consequences, such as oesophageal variceal bleeding, ascites, and hepatic encephalopathy. Portal hypertension occurs due to increased resistance of the cirrhotic liver vasculature to portal blood flow and is further aggravated by the hyperdynamic circulatory syndrome. Existing knowledge indicates that the profibrogenic phenotype acquired by sinusoidal cells is the initial factor leading to increased hepatic vascular tone and fibrosis, which cause increased vascular resistance and portal hypertension. Data also suggest that the phenotype of hepatic cells could be further impaired due to the altered mechanical properties of the cirrhotic liver itself, creating a deleterious cycle that worsens portal hypertension in the advanced stages of liver disease. In this Review, we discuss recent discoveries in the pathophysiology and treatment of cirrhotic portal hypertension, a condition with few pharmacological treatment options.

BACKGROUND: Listeriosis is a severe foodborne infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, an important foodborne pathogen of animals and humans. Listeriosis is a rare disease in cats. OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical, diagnostic imaging, histological, and microbiological features of L. monocytogenes-associated mesenteric lymphadenitis in a cat. ANIMALS: Listeria monocytogenes-associated mesenteric lymphadenitis was confirmed in a cat by histology and microbiology. RESULTS: Two distinct isolates of L. monocytogenes were cultured from the affected mesenteric lymph node and whole genome sequencing was performed. CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: This report should alert veterinary clinicians and microbiologists to the syndrome, which may have implications for health and food safety in animals and humans.

BACKGROUND: Female pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a common condition affecting the emotional well-being of women. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms in women with PFD. SEARCH STRATEGY, SELECTION CRITERIA, DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Following prospective registration (PROSPERO CRD42022362095) we conducted a search of three electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus) from inception to April 2023 without language restriction to capture studies reporting the prevalence of depression/anxiety among women with PFD (chronic pelvic pain [CPP], urinary incontinence [UI], pelvic organ prolapse [POP], and/or fecal incontinence [FI]). Only studies with validated tools were included. Data extraction and study quality assessment were performed by two independent reviewers. Stratifying by type of PFD, rates of depression and anxiety were pooled using random effects model computing 95% confidence interval (CI) and assessing heterogeneity using the I2 statistic. Funnel plots were used to detect potential reporting biases and small-study effects. MAIN RESULTS: The search yielded 767 articles, from which 54 studies containing 632 605 women were included. All the studies were high quality. The prevalence of depression was: CPP 26.8% (95% CI: 19.2-34.4, I2 = 98.7%; 12 studies, 4798 participants with 491 cases; Egger's P value = 0.009); UI 26.3% (95% CI: 19.4-33.2, I2 = 99.9%; 26 studies, a total of 346 114 participants with 25 050 cases; Egger's P value = 0.944); POP 34.9% (95% CI: 24.3-45.6, I2 = 68%; three studies, 297 participants with 104 cases; Egger's P value = 0.973); and FI 25.3% (95% CI: 0.68-49.9, I2 = 99.7%; six studies, 14 663 participants with 1773 cases; Egger's P value = 0.780). The prevalence of anxiety was: CPP 29.5% (95% CI: 16.3-42.7, I2 = 97.7%; nine studies, 2483 participants with 349 cases; Egger's P value = 0.001); UI 46.91% (95% CI: 39.1-54.6, I2 = 99.6%; 11 studies, 198 491 participants with 40 058 cases; Egger's P value = 0.337); and POP 28% (95% CI: 13.6-42.4, I2 = 89%; three studies with 355 participants with 90 cases; Egger's P value = 0.306). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of mental health illness was variable in the different types of PFDs. This meta-analysis helps quantify the burden of depression and anxiety in PFD and will help inform the policies regarding screening of emotional well-being by healthcare professionals engaged in care of women with PFD.

Although scales that evaluate postpartum stress exist, they lack specificity in maternal postpartum stress. The MPSS was created because there was a need to assess maternal stress during the postpartum stage. The introduction of the MPSS has enriched the evaluation tools for postpartum stress and has helped understand maternal stress at various postpartum time points and identify women at high risk for postpartum stress during this period. The aim was to translate the MPSS into Spanish and study its psychometric properties. Postpartum women (N = 167) with a mean age of 34.26 (SD = 4.71) were involved in this study. In addition to the MPSS, a battery of instruments was administered: a demographic sheet, the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). The MPSS data were analyzed, checking item communality first. As a result, three items showed unsatisfactory communality values (h2 < 0.40). Confirmatory Factor Analysis was conducted, comparing factor models using the full pool of MPSS items or the version without items with unacceptable communality. As a result, the original three-factor structure was endorsed on the Spanish MPSS, with better fit indices when removing items with low communality (RMSEA = 0.067, CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.99). The reliability of this version was satisfactory (ω = 0.93). Finally, group comparisons for some perinatal variables were performed, showing no significant differences between groups of interest (p = 0.05 and above). To conclude, the MPSS will contribute to the existing literature, having a wider capacity to assess perinatal mental health difficulties in Spanish-speaking populations.

Ethanol steam reforming (ESR) over a Ni/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by reduction of a NiAl2O4 spinel is a promising alternative route to produce H2 from biomass. This work deepens into the effect of reaction conditions (450-650 °C, a steam/ethanol (S/E) ratio of 3-9, and a weight space time up to 1.3 h) and evaluates the time on stream evolution of the yields of H2, gaseous byproducts (CO, CO2, CH4, C2H4, C2H4O), and formed carbon/coke. The results are explained taking into consideration the thermodynamics, the extent of each individual reaction, and the catalyst deactivation. Up to 600 °C, the predominant intermediate in the H2 formation is C2H4 (formed by ethanol dehydration) with the preferential formation of nanostructured carbon (nanotubes/filaments) by C2H4 decomposition. The deposition of this type of carbon partially deactivates the catalyst, mainly affecting the extent of the C2H4 decomposition causing a sharp decrease in the H2 and carbon yields. Nevertheless, the catalyst reaches a pseudosteady state with an apparent constant activity for other reactions in the kinetic scheme. At 650 °C, C2H4O (formed by the ethanol dehydrogenation) is the main intermediate in the H2 formation, which is the precursor of an amorphous/turbostratic carbon (coke) formation that initially causes a rapid deactivation of the catalyst, affecting the ethanol dehydration and, to a lower extent, the reforming and water gas shift reactions. The increase in the S/E ratio favors the H2 formation, attenuates the catalyst deactivation due to the suppression of the ethanol dehydration to C2H4, and promotes the reforming, water gas shift, and carbon/coke gasification reactions. A H2 yield of 85% stable for 48 h on stream is achieved at 600 °C, with a space time of 0.1 h and an S/E ratio of 9.

In recent years many women have looked for alternative therapies to address menopause. Hesperidin, phytosterols and curcumin are bioactive compounds that can ameliorate some cardiovascular risk factors associated with menopause, although there are no data concerning the effects of their combined supplementation. We used ovariectomized (OVX) rats, a postmenopausal model with oestrogen deficiency, to evaluate whether supplementation with a multi-ingredient (MI) including hesperidin, phytosterols and curcumin for 57 days would display beneficial effects against fat mass accretion and metabolic disturbances associated with menopause. Twenty OVX rats were orally supplemented with either MI (OVX-MI) or vehicle (OVX). Furthermore, 10 OVX rats orally received the vehicle along with subcutaneous injections of 17ß-oestradiol biweekly (OVX-E2), whereas 10 rats were sham operated and received oral and injected vehicles (control group; SH). MI supplementation partly counteracted the fat mass accretion observed in OVX animals, which was evidenced by decreased total fat mass, adiposity index, the weight of retroperitoneal, inguinal and mesenteric white adipose tissue (MWAT) depots and MWAT adipocyte hypertrophy. These effects were accompanied by a significant decrease in the circulating levels of leptin and the mRNA levels of the fatty acid uptake-related genes Lpl and Cd36 in MWAT. These results were very similar to those observed in OVX-E2 animals. OVX-MI rats also displayed a higher lean body mass, lean/fat mass ratio, adiponectin-to-leptin ratio and insulin sensitivity than their OVX counterparts. Our findings can pave the way for using this MI formulation as an alternative therapy to manage obesity and to improve the cardiometabolic health of menopausal women.
