RESUMEN

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is known to contribute to the development of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). However, identifying HFpEF in individuals with type 2 diabetes early on is often challenging due to a limited array of biomarkers. This study aims to investigate specific biomarkers associated with the progression of HFpEF in individuals with type 2 diabetes, for the purpose of enabling early detection and more effective management strategies. METHODS: Blood samples were collected from individuals with type 2 diabetes, both with and without HFpEF, for proteomic analysis. Plasma integrin α1 (ITGA1) levels were measured and compared between the two groups. Participants were further categorised based on ITGA1 levels and underwent detailed transthoracic echocardiography at baseline and during a median follow-up period of 30 months. Multivariable linear and Cox regression analyses were conducted separately to assess the associations between plasma ITGA1 levels and changes in echocardiography indicators and re-hospitalisation risk. Additionally, proteomic data for the individuals' left ventricles, from ProteomeXchange database, were analysed to uncover mechanisms underlying the change in ITGA1 levels in HFpEF. RESULTS: Individuals with type 2 diabetes and HFpEF showed significantly higher plasma ITGA1 levels than the individuals with type 2 diabetes without HFpEF. These elevated ITGA1 levels were associated with left ventricular remodelling and impaired diastolic function. Furthermore, during a median follow-up of 30 months, multivariable analysis revealed that elevated ITGA1 levels independently correlated with deterioration of both diastolic and systolic cardiac functions. Additionally, higher baseline plasma ITGA1 levels independently predicted re-hospitalisation risk (HR 2.331 [95% CI 1.387, 3.917], p=0.001). Proteomic analysis of left ventricular myocardial tissue provided insights into the impact of increased ITGA1 levels on cardiac fibrosis-related pathways and the contribution made by these changes to the development and progression of HFpEF. CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION: ITGA1 serves as a biomarker for monitoring cardiac structural and functional damage, can be used to accurately diagnose the presence of HFpEF, and can be used to predict potential deterioration in cardiac structure and function as well as re-hospitalisation for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Its measurement holds promise for facilitating risk stratification and early intervention to mitigate the adverse cardiovascular effects associated with diabetes. DATA AVAILABILITY: The proteomic data of left ventricular myocardial tissue from individuals with type 2 diabetes, encompassing both those with and without HFpEF, is available from the ProteomeXchange database at http://proteomecentral.proteomexchange.org .

RESUMEN

Background Accurate characterization of suspicious small renal masses is crucial for optimized management. Deep learning (DL) algorithms may assist with this effort. Purpose To develop and validate a DL algorithm for identifying benign small renal masses at contrast-enhanced multiphase CT. Materials and Methods Surgically resected renal masses measuring 3 cm or less in diameter at contrast-enhanced CT were included. The DL algorithm was developed by using retrospective data from one hospital between 2009 and 2021, with patients randomly allocated in a training and internal test set ratio of 8:2. Between 2013 and 2021, external testing was performed on data from five independent hospitals. A prospective test set was obtained between 2021 and 2022 from one hospital. Algorithm performance was evaluated by using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and compared with the results of seven clinicians using the DeLong test. Results A total of 1703 patients (mean age, 56 years ± 12 [SD]; 619 female) with a single renal mass per patient were evaluated. The retrospective data set included 1063 lesions (874 in training set, 189 internal test set); the multicenter external test set included 537 lesions (12.3%, 66 benign) with 89 subcentimeter (≤1 cm) lesions (16.6%); and the prospective test set included 103 lesions (13.6%, 14 benign) with 20 (19.4%) subcentimeter lesions. The DL algorithm performance was comparable with that of urological radiologists: for the external test set, AUC was 0.80 (95% CI: 0.75, 0.85) versus 0.84 (95% CI: 0.78, 0.88) (P = .61); for the prospective test set, AUC was 0.87 (95% CI: 0.79, 0.93) versus 0.92 (95% CI: 0.86, 0.96) (P = .70). For subcentimeter lesions in the external test set, the algorithm and urological radiologists had similar AUC of 0.74 (95% CI: 0.63, 0.83) and 0.81 (95% CI: 0.68, 0.92) (P = .78), respectively. Conclusion The multiphase CT-based DL algorithm showed comparable performance with that of radiologists for identifying benign small renal masses, including lesions of 1 cm or less. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The 3-piece inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) is the most widely used device for erectile dysfunction refractory to medications, containing a reservoir inserted into the retropubic space (RPS) or an alternative/ectopic space (AES). Indications for removal of the reservoir include malfunction, malposition, or infection. In revision cases without infection, reservoir removal is sometimes optional. AIM: We reviewed outcomes and complications related to reservoir removal from a large multi-institutional series. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed databases at 6 institutions over 7 years. Patients with artificial urethral sphincter, urethral sling, or mini-jupette were excluded. OUTCOMES: Outcomes and complications related to IPP reservoir removal were analyzed. Data were collected, but only reservoir-related complications at surgery were included. Data were compared between the RPS and AES cohorts to evaluate differences with a χ2 test, with significance at P < .05. RESULTS: Of 215 cases, there were 172 RPS and 43 AES reservoirs. The mean patient age was 65.3 years. An overall 131 procedures were due to malfunction and 49 to malposition of an IPP component; 35 were secondary to infection. Among those retained (n = 44), reasons included reuse, avoiding surrounding structure damage, and difficult dissection. Among those removed (n = 171), 15 required a counterincision. To determine the statistical difference between those removed from the RPS and an AES, the χ2 test result was P = .00059, indicating a significant difference in the need for a counterincision between the groups. Complications included bladder perforation (n = 1) in the RPS group and an avulsion of the epigastric vessels requiring abdominal exploration (n = 1) in the AES group. To determine the statistical difference between RPS and AES complications, the χ2 test result was P = .365, indicating no significant difference between the groups. STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS: Strengths include being a multi-institutional study with high-volume skilled implanters. Limitations include being a retrospective review, with implanters exclusively performing penoscrotal incisions and not utilizing an infrapubic approach. Last, there was a lack of long-term follow-up with these patients. CONCLUSIONS: Removal of an IPP reservoir remains safe, with few intraoperative complications. Surgeons should be aware of the inferior epigastric vessels during removal in an AES or be willing to perform a counterincision to avoid injury to surrounding structures. Surgeons should also obtain preoperative imaging to identify the specific location of the reservoir and adjacent anatomy. This is the first multi-institutional study reviewing outcomes related to reservoir removal during IPP revision or removal surgery.

RESUMEN

A cascade oxidation/Pictet-Spengler condensation/annulation process has been developed for the one-pot total synthesis of nitramarine, nitraridine, and their analogues. The procedure proceeded with easily available quinolines and tryptophan derivatives. A simple and metal-free approach, wide substrate scope, and functional group tolerance make it applicable for the synthesis of diverse bioactive nitramarine, nitraridine, and their derivatives. Furthermore, the bioactivity evaluation has identified two promising leading compounds 5d and 5e with potent antitumor proliferative activity against breast cancer cells.

RESUMEN

The egg parasitoid Anastatus japonicus is a key natural enemy in the biological control of various agricultural and forestry pests. It is particularly used against the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys and the emerging defoliator pest Caligula japonica in East Asia. It has been proved that the eggs of Antheraea pernyi can be used as a factitious host for the mass production of A. japonicus. This study systematically documented the parasitic behaviour and developmental morphology exhibited by A. japonicus on the eggs of A. pernyi. The parasitic behaviour of A. japonicus encompassed ten steps including searching, antennation, locating, digging, probing, detecting, oviposition, host-feeding, grooming, and resting. Oviposition, in particular, was observed to occur in three stages, with the parasitoids releasing eggs during the second stage when the body remained relatively static. Among all the steps of parasitic behaviour, probing accounted for the longest time, constituting 33.1% of the whole time. It was followed by digging (19.3%), oviposition (18.5%), antennation (9.6%), detecting (7.4%), and the remaining steps, each occupying less than 5.0% of the total event time. The pre-emergence of adult A. japonicus involves four stages: egg (0 to 2nd day), larva (3rd to 9th day), pre-pupa (10th to 13th day), pupa (14th to 22nd day), and subsequent development into an adult. Typically, it takes 25.60 ± 0.30 days to develop from an egg to an adult at 25℃. This information increases the understanding of the biology of A. japonicus and may provide a reference for optimising reproductive devices.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To describe the ultrasound characteristics of nodular localized cutaneous neurofibroma (NLCN). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical features and ultrasound characteristics of 43 lesions of 40 patients pathologically proven as NLCNs at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital from October 2014 to May 2022 were analyzed retrospectively. The location, length-to-thickness (L/T) ratio, thickness-to-width (T/W) ratio, shape, margin, capsule, echogenicity, echotexture, posterior features, vascularity, and "rat tail sign" were evaluated. RESULTS: All ultrasound findings showed almost perfect agreement. More than a half of NLCNs (n = 24, 55.8%, p < 0.001) were located in the subcutaneous fat layer wholly with well-demarcation from dermis and deep fascia. Most of the NLCNs were fusiform shape (n = 27, 62.8%, p < 0.001) in the long axis and oval shape (n = 35, 81.4%, p < 0.001) in the short axis. The other ultrasound findings of NLCNs included well-defined (n = 42, 97.7%, p < 0.001), encapsulated (n = 39, 90.7%, p < 0.001), predominately hypoechoic (n = 34, 79.1%, p < 0.001), homogeneous (n = 39, 90.7%, p < 0.001), posterior enhancement (n = 29, 67.4%, p = 0.033), and avascularity (n = 37, 86.0%, p < 0.001). Only a quarter (n = 11, 25.6%, p = 0.002) of lesions were recognized with the "rat tail sign." CONCLUSION: NLCNs present as fusiform shape in long axis and round shape in short axis. The common ultrasound findings of NLCNs are well-defined, encapsulated, predominately hypoechoic, homogeneous lesion with posterior enhancement, and poor blood supply. The "rat tail sign" has low sensitivity in NLCNs.

RESUMEN

ZIF-67 was grown in situ on carbon cloth (CC) using a simple one-step method. The prepared ZIF-67/CC electrodes exhibited excellent CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) performance in a dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor. The highest concentrations of produced formic acid and formaldehyde were 9.16 and 0.068 mmol L-1 at a reaction time of 1 h, respectively. The high performance is related to the unique high aspect ratio structure and pad-like cavity of ZIF-67, which results not only in an increase in the specific surface area for CO2 adsorption but also in the hydrophobicity of the electrode. Unexpectedly, the superoxide radical (·O2-) greatly affects the reduction performance of the electrode. In addition, the ZIF-67/CC electrode maintained good CO2RR performance in the presence of different pollutants, and the production of formic acid and formaldehyde increased to 10.81 and 0.11 mmol L-1 at 1 h with the addition of 10 mg L-1 phenol. This research provides new directions in the field of plasma catalysis.

RESUMEN

To enhance the bioavailability and antihypertensive effect of the anti-depressant drug citalopram hydrobromide (CTH) we developed a sustained-release transdermal delivery system containing CTH. A transdermal diffusion meter was first used to determine the optimal formulation of the CTH transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS). Then, based on the determined formulation, a sustained-release patch was prepared; its physical characteristics, including quality, stickiness, and appearance, were evaluated, and its pharmacokinetics and irritation to the skin were evaluated by applying it to rabbits and rats. The optimal formulation of the CTH TDDS was 49.2% hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose K100M, 32.8% polyvinylpyrrolidone K30, 16% oleic acid-azone, and 2% polyacrylic acid resin II. The system continuously released an effective dose of CTH for 24 h and significantly enhanced its bioavailability, with a higher area under the curve, good stability, and no skin irritation. The developed CTH TDDS possessed a sustained-release effect and good characteristics and pharmacokinetics; therefore, it has the potential for clinical application as an antidepressant.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore their perceptions and attitudes toward condom use and the underlying reasons for the low usage frequency among Chinese older adults. METHODS: A qualitative study design utilizing interpretive phenomenological analysis was employed. Data were collected through field observation and face-to-face in-depth interviews among older adults aged 50 years or above and having engaged in sexual activities within the previous year. RESULTS: Three main themes emerged: perceiving unnecessary due to misconceptions and low awareness, interactive stereotypes rooted in sociocultural beliefs, and stigmatized social norms including gender inequity and economic unbalance. CONCLUSIONS: Tailored interventions focusing on addressing misconceptions, increasing awareness, and reducing culturally ingrained stereotypes and stigma surrounding condom use are essential to promote condom use among older adults in order to prevent HIV transmission in China.

RESUMEN

This qualitative study aimed to gain an understanding of what it means to live with ischemic heart disease for individuals who perceive health as beyond their control and how these individuals navigate their choices regarding adhering or not adhering to self-management behavior. Participants were recruited through purposive sampling, and semi-structured interviews were conducted. Content analysis was employed to identify themes and subthemes in the interview data. The theme, "attribution of ischemic heart disease," revealed that the participants attributed their condition to lifestyle, critical events, and the natural aging process. The theme, "experiences of self-management," highlighted the different behaviors among participants who perceived health to be beyond their control. The theme, "barriers and facilitators," identified factors such as a strong sense of responsibility toward family members, the work environment, and access to medical resources. Our study showed that despite perceiving their health to be beyond their control, some individuals may still adhere to self-management practices. Understanding factors such as "attribution" and "barriers and facilitators" can provide nurses with insights into the patients' decisions to adhere or not adhere to self-management behaviors.

RESUMEN

Ubiquitination is a fundamental mechanism regulating the stability of target proteins in eukaryotes; however, the regulatory mechanism in seed longevity remains unknown. Here, we report that an uncharacterized E3 ligase, ARABIDOPSIS TÓXICOS EN LEVADURA 5 (ATL5), positively regulates seed longevity by mediating the degradation of ACTIVATOR OF BASAL TRANSCRIPTION 1 (ABT1) in Arabidopsis. Seeds in which ATL5 was disrupted showed faster accelerated aging than the wild-type, while expressing ATL5 in atl5-2 basically restored the defective phenotype. ATL5 was highly expressed in the embryos of seeds, and its expression could be induced by accelerated aging. A yeast two-hybrid screen identified ABT1 as an ATL5 interacting protein, which was further confirmed by bimolecular fluorescence complementary assay and co-immunoprecipitation analysis. In vitro and in vivo assays showed that ATL5 functions as an E3 ligase and mediates the polyubiquitination and degradation of ABT1. Disruption of ATL5 diminished the degradation of translated ABT1, and the degradation could be induced by seed ageing and occurred in a proteasome-dependent manner. Furthermore, disruption of ABT1 enhanced seed longevity. Taken together, our study reveals that ATL5 promotes the polyubiquitination and degradation of the ABT1 protein posttranslationally and positively regulates seed longevity in Arabidopsis.

RESUMEN

The MYC oncogenic family is dysregulated in diverse tumors which is generally linked to the poor prognosis of tumors. The members in MYC family are transcription factors which are responsible for the regulation of various genes expression. Among them, c-MYC is closely related to the progression of tumors. Furthermore, c-MYC aberrations is tightly associated with the prevalence of breast cancer. Tumor microenvironment (TME) is composed of many different types of cellular and non-cellular factors, mainly including cancer-associated fibroblasts, tumor-associated macrophages, vascular endothelial cells, myeloid-derived suppressor cells and immune cells, all of which can affect the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic efficacy of breast cancer. Importantly, the biological processes occurred in TME, such as angiogenesis, immune evasion, invasion, migration, and the recruition of stromal and tumor-infiltrating cells are under the modulation of c-MYC. These findings indicated that c-MYC serves as a critical regulator of TME. Here, we aimed to summarize and review the relevant research, thus to clarify c-MYC is a key mediator between breast cancer cells and TME. Video Abstract.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The goal of blood pressure (BP) control will be lower when hypertensive patients have comorbidities that can affect the risk of cardiovascular diseases. But, the goal of BP control for hypertensive patients coexistent with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is not discussed, which is a special population at high risk of cardiovascular diseases. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Using data from a retrospective study(Urumqi Research on Sleep Apnea and Hypertension (UROSAH) study, we enrolled 3267 participants who were diagnosed with hypertension and performed polysomnography during 2011-2013 to explore the association between BP control and long-term major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event (MACCE). Outcomes of interest was the levels of BP control, MACCE, cardiac event and cerebrovascular event. Then we calculated the cumulative incidence of MACCE and performed Cox proportional hazards with stepwise models. RESULTS: 379 of 3267 patients experienced MACCE during a median follow-up of 7.0 years. After full risk adjustment, BP control of 120-139/80-89mmHg was associated with the lowest risk of cerebrovascular event (HR: 0.53, 95%CI:0.35-0.82) rather than MACCE and cardiac event in the total cohort. The association did not change much in patients with OSA. When the SBP and DBP were discussed separately, the SBP control of 120-139mmHg or < 120mmHg was associated with the decreased incidence of MACCE and cerebrovascular event. When DBP control < 80 mm Hg, the risk of cerebrovascular event showed 54% decrease [(HR:0.46, 95%CI: 0.25-0.88)] in patients with hypertension and OSA. CONCLUSION: In this retrospective study, antihypertensive-drug-induced office and home BP control at 120-139/80-89mmHg showed possible beneficial effect on incident MACCE. However, current results need to be verified in future studies.

RESUMEN

A supramolecular solvent-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction was proposed for the extraction and determination of lignans in Forsythiae Fructus combined with high-performance liquid chromatography. The supramolecular solvent, consisting of tetrabutylammonium bromide and n-hexanol, was mixed with the sample solution to extract the analytes by a vortex. After accomplishing the extraction, the extraction phase was separated by centrifugation and collected for high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. In this work, the important extraction variables such as the type and amount of extraction solvent, pH and salt amount in the sample phase, and extraction time were optimized. The synthesis of supramolecular solvent was studied and its microstructure was characterized by transmission electron microscopy. Under the optimal conditions, the analytes' enrichment factors were between 6 and 170 for the proposed procedure. Satisfactory linear ranges (r ≥ 0.99), detection limits (0.025-0.4 ng/ml), precisions (< 9.2%), and accuracies (recoveries: 96.5%-104.8%) were obtained. The method has been successfully applied to the preconcentration of lignans in Forsythiae Fructus with simple and rapid operation, low cost, and environmental friendliness.

RESUMEN

A simple and rapid instantaneous nebulization dispersive liquid-phase microextraction method was developed, and combined with high-performance liquid chromatography for determination of the contents of seven analytes in traditional Chinese medicines. In this study, using the sprinkler device to achieve instantaneous synchronous dispersion and extraction, only one spray can rapidly achieve the concentration and enrichment of seven kinds of chalcone and isoflavones. The key factors affecting the extraction efficiency were optimized including the type and volume of extractant, the pH and salt concentration of the sample phase, and the number of dispersion. Under the optimal conditions, the enrichment factor of the target analytes ranged from 103.1 to 180.9, with good linearity and correlation coefficients above 0.9970. The limits of detection ranged from 0.02 to 0.15 ng/mL, with good accuracy (recoveries 91.1 to 108.9%) and precision (relative standard deviations 1.5-7.1%). This method has short extraction time (2 s), low organic solvent consumption and high enrichment effect, so it has a wide application prospects.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we analyzed the clinical and epidemiological features of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection in patients with cervical intraepithelial lesions. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 240 cases of histologically confirmed cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions to determine any correlation between HPV infection characteristics, age distribution, and cervical epithelial lesions. RESULTS: Patients between the ages of 31 and 40 with cervical intraepithelial lesions were more likely to have high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL; 40.7%) than low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL; 31.3%) (P < 0.05). In patients with HSIL, HR-HPV16, HR-HPV33, and HR-HPV52 were the most common types of HPV infection, while in patients with LSIL, HR-HPV16, HR-HPV52, and HR-HPV58 were the most common types of HPV infection. The highest percentage of single infections occurred in the HSIL group (69.6%), followed by the LSIL group (68.8%). HSIL was present in a significant number of patients (28.6%) aged 30 years and above who tested positive for 12 HPV types but negative for TCT. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of HSIL is greatest in younger patients. Patients with cervical epithelial lesions typically have a single infection of a high-risk HPV genotype-HR-HPV16, HR-HPV33, HR-HPV52, or HR-HPV58. Patients aged 30 years and above who test positive for one of 12 types of HPV but negative for TCT are at increased risk for developing HSIL. In order to detect cervical lesions early and begin treatment without delay, colposcopy should be performed regardless of whether or not a high-risk HPV infection is present.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to explore the chain mediation model of self-efficacy and health literacy between empowerment and quality of life among spousal caregivers of disabled elderly based on 'Marriage Binding'. From December 2020 to June 2022, the cross-sectional study was conducted in hospitals and communities, in Guangdong, Fujian, Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Yunnan provinces, China. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the demographic data and four main variables, including empowerment, self-efficacy, health literacy and quality of life. Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between the four main research variables. Multiple Linear Regression and bootstrap analysis were used to analyze the direct and indirect effects among them. Any two variables of spousal caregivers were correlated among empowerment, self-efficacy, health literacy and quality of life. Self-efficacy and health literacy can separately and sequentially mediate the relationship between empowerment and quality of life. To improve the quality of life of spousal caregivers of disabled elderly, the mediating role of self-efficacy, the mediating role of health literacy and the chain mediating role of self-efficacy and health literacy should take effect. In the future, some intervention studies should be taken to enhance the effects of those variables that may be beneficial for improving quality of life of spousal caregivers of disabled elderly.

RESUMEN

The stress of disability significantly impacts an individual's quality of life and that of a spouse. Health empowerment, based on the idea that individuals may be successful despite disability, may be meaningful to disabled persons and their spouse carers. This cross-sectional survey study aimed to explore the effect of health empowerment on the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of older individuals with disabilities and their spouse carers on both a personal (actor effect) and interpersonal level (partner effect). A total of 1092 dyads of older individuals with disabilities and their spouse carers residing in communities were recruited from seven provinces in China. Two separate Actor-Partner Interdependence Model analyses were conducted to examine the impact of health empowerment on the two domains of HRQOL: the Physical Component Score (PCS) and the Mental Component Score (MCS). The results revealed that health empowerment had actor effects on the PCS and MCS of older individuals with disabilities, as well as on the PCS and MCS of their spouse carers. However, no significant partner effects of health empowerment on the PCS and MCS of either the individuals with disabilities or their spouse caregivers were observed. Empowering individuals with disabilities and their spouse carers may help them enhance their own HRQOL, both physically and mentally. However, more research is required to determine the interpersonal effect of health empowerment on the HRQOL.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Calcium silicate cements have been widely used for pulpotomies in immature permanent teeth with complicated crown fractures due to their superior properties. However, few studies have evaluated the long-term outcomes of white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) and iRoot BP Plus for partial pulpotomies. The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of WMTA and iRoot BP Plus for partial pulpotomies in immature permanent incisors with complicated crown fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Children who had partial pulpotomies of immature permanent incisors with complicated crown fractures using WMTA or iRoot BP Plus as capping agents were enrolled. Eighty immature permanent incisors in 68 children (aged 8-13 years) were included. They were divided into two groups (WMTA and iRoot BP Plus) according to the capping agents. Clinical and radiographic information was collected during a 5-year follow-up period. Study data were analyzed using Chi-square tests or Fisher exact tests. RESULTS: The clinical and radiographic success rates in the WMTA (n = 36) and iRoot BP Plus groups (n = 44) were 94.4% versus 97.7% and 88.9% versus 97.7%, respectively (both p < .05). The average observation period was 74.5 ± 13.2 months and 61.9 ± 1.6 months in the WMTA and iRoot BP Plus groups, respectively (p < .01). Five cases presented with periapical radiolucencies. The WMTA group had four cases of pulp canal calcification (11.1%), while the iRoot BP Plus group had two cases (4.6%). There was crown discolouration in all cases in the WMTA group, but none in the iRoot BP Plus group. CONCLUSION: Both WMTA and iRoot BP Plus had favorable outcomes in promoting physiological development and maintaining the basic functions of immature permanent incisors with complicated crown fractures. As a partial pulpotomy material, iRoot BP Plus may be more suitable for the esthetic zone than WMTA.

RESUMEN

Aryne insertions into the carbon-iodine bond of heteroaryl iodides has been achieved for the first time. This novel reaction provides an efficient pathway for the synthesis of valuable building blocks 2-iodoheterobiaryls from heteroaryl iodides and o-silylaryl triflates in excellent regioselectivity. The copper(I) catalyst, which bears a N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand, is essential to accomplish the reaction. Control reactions and DFT calculations indicate that the coordination of copper, as a Lewis acid, with nitrogen atoms of heteroaryl iodides mediates the insertion of arynes into heteroaryl carbon-iodine bonds.
