RESUMEN

Fragrance plays a crucial role in the daily lives. Its importance spans various sectors, from therapeutic purposes to personal care, making the understanding and accurate identification of fragrances essential. To fully harness the potential of fragrances, efficient and precise fragrance sensing and identification are necessary. However, current fragrance sensors face several limitations, particularly in detecting and differentiating complex scent profiles with high accuracy. To address these challenges, the use of atom-thin materials in fragrance sensors has emerged as a groundbreaking approach. These atom-thin sensors, characterized by their enhanced sensitivity and selectivity, offer significant improvements over traditional sensing technology. Moreover, the integration of Machine Learning (ML) into fragrance sensing has opened new opportunities in the field. ML algorithms applied to fragrance sensing facilitate advancements in four key domains: accurate fragrance identification, precise discrimination between different fragrances, improved detection thresholds for subtle scents, and prediction of fragrance properties. This comprehensive review delves into the synergistic use of atom-thin materials and ML in fragrance sensing, providing an in-depth analysis of how these technologies are revolutionizing the field, offering insights into their current applications and future potential in enhancing the understanding and utilization of fragrances.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Existing pharmacogenetic algorithms cannot fully explain warfarin dose variability in all patients. CYP2C9*13 is an important allelic variant in the Han Chinese population. However, adjustment of warfarin dosing in CYP2C9*13 variant carriers remains unclear. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to assess the effects of adjusting warfarin dosages in Han Chinese patients harbouring CYP2C9*13 variants. METHODS: In total, 971 warfarin-treated Han Chinese patients with atrial fibrillation were enrolled in this study. Clinical data were collected, and CYP2C9*2, *3, *13 and VKORC1-1639 G > A variants were genotyped. We quantitatively analysed the effect of CYP2C9*13 on warfarin maintenance dose and provided multiplicative adjustments for CYP2C9*13 using validated pharmacogenetic algorithms. RESULTS: Approximately 0.6% of the Han Chinese population carried CYP2C9*13 variant, and the genotype frequency was between those of CYP2C9*2 and CYP2C9*3. The warfarin maintenance doses were significantly reduced in CYP2C9*13 carriers. When CYP2C9*13 variants were not considered, the pharmacogenetic algorithms overestimated warfarin maintenance doses by 1.03-1.16 mg/d on average. The actual warfarin dose in CYP2C9*13 variant carriers was approximately 40% lower than the algorithm-predicted dose. Adjusting the warfarin-dosing algorithm according to the CYP2C9*13 allele could reduce the dose prediction error. CONCLUSION: Our study showed that the algorithm-predicted doses should be lowered for CYP2C9*13 carriers. Inclusion of the CYP2C9*13 variant in the warfarin-dosing algorithm tends to predict the warfarin maintenance dose more accurately and improves the efficacy and safety of warfarin administration in Han Chinese patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: the prevalence of physical and multidimensional frailty and their prognostic impact on clinical outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) is unclear. OBJECTIVE: to evaluated frailty in a cohort of patients with AF according to different criteria, and studied the prevalence and its prognostic impact on clinical outcomes. METHODS: in this multicenter prospective cohort, 197 inpatients ≥ 65 years old with AF were recruited from September 2018 to April 2019.We used Fried Frailty phenotype (Fried) to assess physical frailty, and comprehensive geriatric assessment-frailty index (CGA-FI) to assess multidimensional frailty. The primary outcome was a composite of all-cause mortality or rehospitalization. RESULTS: the prevalence of frailty was determined as 34.5% by Fried, 42.6% by CGA-FI. Malnutrition and ≥ 7 medications were independently associated with frailty. Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that the presence of frailty by CGA-FI had significantly lower all-cause mortality or rehospitalization survival rate (log-rank P = 0.04) within 1 year. Multivariate Cox regression adjusted for age and sex showed that the frailty by CGA-FI was significantly associated with the risk of all-cause mortality or rehospitalization within 1 year (HR 1.79, 95% CI 1.10-2.90). However, those associations were absent with the physical frailty. After broader multivariate adjustment, those associations were no longer statistically significant for both types of frailty. CONCLUSIONS: in older people with AF, Multidimensional frailty is more significantly associated with a composite of all-cause mortality or rehospitalization within 1 year than physical frailty, but these association are attenuated after multivariate adjustment. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Despite advances in the treatment of heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction, people with HF continue to have a high risk of mortality and hospitalisation. Patients also suffer from poor quality of life, with reduced societal and economic participation. The burden of HF on patients and healthcare systems is extraordinary, yet awareness remains low. This survey was conducted to identify gaps in general public and policymaker knowledge around HF. METHODS: A closed-question web-based survey of the general public and policymakers was conducted between February and October 2020. Study outcomes assessed the participants' awareness and understanding of HF symptoms, risk factors and mortality, and views around hospital admissions in their country. Responses were collected using multiple-choice questions. RESULTS: The survey was completed by 26,272 general public respondents in 13 countries and 281 government and public sector policymakers in nine countries. While 99% of general public respondents had heard of HF, their understanding of the condition and its symptoms was poor, and only 6% identified that shortness of breath, fatigue, and leg swelling were the main symptoms of HF. Of policymaker respondents, 14% identified HF as the leading cause of avoidable hospitalisations, and only 4% recognised that ~ 87% of government spending on HF is related to hospitalisations. CONCLUSIONS: Major gaps were identified in the understanding of HF and the burden it places on patients and their caregivers, healthcare systems and society. This study confirms an ongoing need for national policy strategies and investment to raise awareness of the importance of HF prevention, early diagnosis, and implementation of effective treatments to reduce hospitalisations and death.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To study the relationship between objective daily physical activity (PA), as measured by implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs)/cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillators (CRTDs), and long-term prognoses in patients with age > 75 years at high risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD). METHODS: In total, 133 patients with age > 75 years old (age 79.52 ± 3.68 years) in the SUMMIT study were retrospectively analysed. The major endpoint was all-cause mortality, and the minor endpoint was cardiac death. RESULTS: The mean follow-up time was 57.1 ± 24.2 months (range: from 4 to 96 months). In total, 46 all-cause mortality and 23 cardiac death events occurred. The receiver operating characteristic curve indicated a baseline PA cut-off value of 6.47% (93 min/day) can predict all-cause mortality in patients with age > 75 years, with an area under the curve of 0.670 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.573-0.767, P = 0.001). The sensitivity was 67.4%, and the specificity was 66.7%. Patients with baseline PA ≤ 6.47% had higher rates of all-cause mortality (51.7% vs 20.5%, P < 0.001) and cardiac death (25.0% vs 11.0%, P = 0.040). The estimated Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that patients with PA ≤ 6.47% had an increased cumulative incidence of all-cause mortality (Log-rank P < 0.0001) and cardiac death (Log-rank P = 0.0067). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that PA ≤ 6.47% was an independent predictor of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio (HR) 3.137, 95% CI: 1.667-5.904, P < 0.001) and cardiac death (HR value 3.345, 95% CI: 1.394-8.028, P = 0.007). CONCLUSIONS: Daily PA of about 1.5 h was associated with lower all-cause mortality and cardiac death risk in patients with age > 75 years and high risk of SCD with ICDs/CRTDs. PA monitoring may aid in long-term management of older patients at high risk of SCD.

RESUMEN

The primary challenge for widespread applications of two-dimensional electronics is to achieve satisfactory electrical contacts due to the difficulties in inevitable physical damages and selectively doping during traditional metal integration process. The two-dimensional (2D) metal-semiconductor junctions have attracted captivated attention for potential applications in future atomically thin electronics as perfect candidates for achieving reliable electrical contacts. Here we demonstrate the van der Waals epitaxial growth of 2D NiTe2-MoS2 metal-semiconductor vertical junctions which the upper NiTe2 selectively nucleate at the edge of underlying MoS2. Optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) studies confirm that NiTe2-MoS2 metal-semiconductor vertical junctions are successfully synthesized. Electrical properties of the NiTe2-contacted MoS2 field-effect transistors (FETs) show higher field-effect mobilities (µFE) than those with deposited Cr/Au contacts. This study demonstrates an effective pathway to improved MoS2 transistors performance with metal-semiconductor junctions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Delayed coronary artery occlusion (CAO) is a rare but fatal complication after transcatheter aortic valve replacement, chimney stenting is the standard technique for established CAO or impending CAO. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a female patient who developed non-ST elevation myocardial infarction after receiving transcatheter aortic valve replacement and chimney stenting 4 months prior. An angiogram revealed delayed coronary artery occlusion with a deformed stent, which was never reported. This patient was subsequently treated with a new chimney stent. CONCLUSIONS: For self-expanding valves, the coronary ostium is protected by chimney stenting, delayed coronary artery occlusion can occur and cause catastrophic complications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Frailty increases the adverse outcomes of clinical heart failure; however, the relationship between frailty and stage-B heart failure (SBHF) remains unknown. We aimed to explore the epidemiology and predictive value of frailty in older adults with SBHF. METHODS: A prospective cohort of SBHF inpatients aged 65 years or older who were hospitalized between September 2018 and February 2019 and were followed up for 6 months were included. SBHF was defined as systolic abnormality, structural abnormality (left ventricular enlargement, left ventricular hypertrophy, wall motion abnormalities, valvular heart disease), or prior myocardial infarction. Frailty was assessed by the Fried frailty phenotype. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression was used to explore the independent risk and prognostic factors. RESULTS: Data of 443 participants (age: 76.1 ± 6.79 years, LVEF: 62.8 ± 4.92%, men: 225 [50.8%], frailty: 109 [24.6%]) were analyzed. During the 6-month follow-up, 83 (18.7%) older SBHF inpatients experienced all-cause mortality or readmission, and 29 (6.5%) of them developed clinical HF. Frail individuals had a 1.78-fold (95%CI: 1.02-3.10, P = 0.041) higher risk of 6-month mortality or readmission and a 2.83-fold (95%CI 1.24-6.47, P = 0.014) higher risk of developing clinical HF, independent of age, sex, left ventricular ejection fraction, and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide level. CONCLUSIONS: Frailty is common in older SBHF inpatients and should be considered to help identify individuals with an increased risk of mortality or readmission, and developing clinical HF. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) with physical activity (PA) recording function can continuously and automatically collect patients' long-term PA data. The dose-response association of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRTD)-measured PA with cardiovascular outcomes in patients at high risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) was investigated. METHODS: In total, 822 patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria were included and divided into three groups according to baseline PA tertiles: tertile 1 (< 8.04%, n = 274), tertile 2 (8.04-13.24%, n = 274), and tertile 3 (> 13.24%, n = 274). The primary endpoint was cardiac death, the secondary endpoint was all-cause mortality. RESULTS: During a mean follow-up of 59.7 ± 22.4 months, cardiac death (18.6% vs 8.8% vs 5.5%, tertiles 1-3, P < 0.001) and all-cause mortality (39.4% vs 20.4% vs 9.9%, tertiles 1-3, P < 0.001) events decreased according to PA tertiles. Compared with patients younger than 60 years old, older patients had a lower average PA level (9.6% vs 12.8%, P < 0.001) but higher rates of cardiac death (13.2% vs 8.1%, P = 0.024) and all-cause mortality (28.4% vs 16.7%, P < 0.001) events. Adjusted multivariate Cox regression analyses showed that a higher tertile of PA was associated with a lower risk of cardiac death (hazard ratio (HR) 0.41, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.25-0.68, tertile 2 vs tertile 1; HR 0.28, 95% CI: 0.15-0.51, tertile 3 vs tertile 1, P trend < 0.001). Similar results were observed for all-cause mortality. The dose-response curve showed an inverse non-linear pattern, and a significant reduction in endpoint risk was observed at the low-moderate PA level. The HR for cardiac death was reduced by half with 12.32% PA (177 min), and the HR for all-cause mortality was reduced by half with 11.92% PA (172 min). Subgroup analysis results indicated that older adults could benefit from PA and the range for achieving optimal benefits might be lower. CONCLUSIONS: PA monitoring may aid in long-term management of patients at high risk of SCD. More PA will generate better survival benefits, but even low-moderate PA is already good especially for older adults, which is relatively easy to achieve.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The clinical symptoms and adverse events caused by pacemaker battery depletion are not uncommon, but it is easy to miss or misdiagnose them clinically. To raise the level of awareness towards this clinical situation, we report two cases. CASE PRESENTATION: We described two cases of pacemaker battery depletion. Case 1 was an 83-year-old male manifesting chest pain and dyspnea. Automatic reprogramming after pacemaker battery depletion resulted in pacemaker syndrome. While case 2 was an 80-year-old female with complete atrioventricular heart block and torsade de pointes, due to complete depletion of pacemaker battery. In addition, we introduce a method that can easily identify the depletion of the pacemaker battery, which has clinical promotion value of a certain degree. CONCLUSIONS: Those cases emphasize that serious morbidity can arise from pacemaker battery depletion, even in the early stages. Therefore, early detection and diagnosis is especially important.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: We aimed to assess the utility of the combination of the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) + clock drawing test (CDT) and the Fried phenotype for predicting non-elective hospital readmission or death within 6 months in elderly inpatients with cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS: A single-center prospective cohort was conducted from September 2018 to February 2019. Inpatients ≥65 years old were recruited. Predictive validity was tested using a Cox proportional hazards regression model analysis, and the discriminative ability was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS: A total of 542 patients were included. Overall, 12% (64/542) screened positive for cognitive impairment, 16% (86/542) were physically frail and 8% (44/542) had cognitive impairment combined with physical frailty, showing an older age (P < 0.001) and a lower education level (P < 0.001) than physically frail patients. A total of 113 patients (20.9%) died or were readmitted at 6 months. Frail participants with a normal (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.73, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.06-2.82, P = 0.028) or impaired cognition (HR: 2.50, 95% CI: 1.27-4.91, P = 0.008) had a higher risk of non-elective hospital readmission or death than robust patients after adjusting for the age, sex, education level, marital status, the presence of diabetes mellitus, heart failure, and history of stroke. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) showed that the discriminative ability in relation to 6 months readmission and death for the MMSE + CDT + Fried phenotype was 0.65 (95% CI: 0.60-0.71), and the AUC for men was 0.71 (95% CI: 0.63-0.78), while that for women was 0.60 (95% CI: 0.51-0.69). CONCLUSIONS: Accounting for cognitive impairment in the frailty phenotype may allow for the better prediction of non-elective hospital readmission or death in elderly inpatients with CVD in the short term. RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Rivaroxaban and ticagrelor are two common drugs for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and acute coronary syndrome. However, the drug-drug interaction between them is still unknown. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of ticagrelor on the pharmacokinetics of rivaroxaban in rats both in vivo and in vitro. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A sensitive and reliable UPLC-MS/MS method was developed for the determination of rivaroxaban in rat plasma. Ten Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into ticagrelor pre-treated group (10 mg/kg/day for 14 days) and control group. The pharmacokinetics of orally administered rivaroxaban (10 mg/kg, single dose) with or without ticagrelor pre-treatment was investigated with developed UPLC-MS/MS method. Additionally, Sprague-Dawley rat liver microsomes were also used to investigate the drug-drug interaction between these two drugs in vitro. RESULTS: The C max (221.34 ± 53.33 vs. 691.18 ± 238.31 ng/mL) and the AUC(0-t) (1060.97 ± 291.21 vs. 3483.03 ± 753.83 µg·h/L) of rivaroxaban increased significantly (p < 0.05) with ticagrelor pre-treatment. The MRT(0-∞) of rivaroxaban increased from 4.41 ± 0.79 to 5.97 ± 1.11 h, while the intrinsic clearance decreased from 9.93 ± 2.55 to 2.89 ± 0.63 L/h/kg (both p < 0.05) after pre-treated with ticagrelor. Enzyme kinetic study indicated that ticagrelor decreased rivaroxaban metabolic clearance with the IC50 value of 14.04 µmol/L. CONCLUSIONS: Our in vivo and in vitro results demonstrated that there is a drug-drug interaction between ticagrelor and rivaroxaban in rats. Further studies need to be carried out to verify whether similar interactions truly apply in humans and whether these interactions have clinical significance.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a leading cause of death worldwide. A long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) named urothelial carcinoma associated 1 (UCA1) is important in multiple diseases. However, the role of UCA1 in CHF is still unknown. Our study investigated whether UCA1 could be applied as an ideal marker to diagnose and evaluate prognosis in CHF. MATERIAL AND METHODS Total plasma RNA was extracted from 67 CHF patients and 67 controls. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the plasma level of UCA1. Correlations between UCA1 and clinical parameters were analyzed by Pearson correlation. Receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) were obtained to analyze the predictive power of UCA1 and BNP for CHF. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used to evaluate prognosis of CHF within 1 year. RESULTS There was no significant difference in elementary data between CHF and controls. Plasma UCA1 was much higher in CHF patients compared with controls. Plasma UCA1 was positively and negatively correlated with brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF), respectively. Plasma UCA1 diagnosed CHF with a diagnostic power of 0.89 and a sensitivity and specificity of 100% [95% CI (0.9464-1)] and 76.12% [95%CI (0.6414-0.8569)] (P<0.05), respectively. CHF patients with higher plasma UCA1 had a lower survival rate than those with a lower level, and survival rate predicted by UCA1 had a similar tendency with BNP. However, there was no significant difference between these 2 markers in predicting the prognosis of CHF (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Plasma UCA1 might be an excellent indicator to diagnose CHF and it might predict poor outcomes of CHF.

RESUMEN

Objective We performed a prospective observational study to explore the prognostic value of plasma galectin-3, a biomarker for fibrosis and inflammation, in Chinese patients with heart failure (HF). Methods and results Galectin-3, N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and other clinically related variables were measured in consecutive HF patients in Beijing Hospital. Specifically, galectin-3 was detected by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The primary end point was major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including all-cause mortality or readmission at the end of follow-up. The secondary end point was all-cause mortality. The adjusted hazard ratio (HR) was determined by COX regression model. In total, 272 patients were included in this study with a median age of 77 years, of whom 55.9% were male. During a median follow-up of 584 (415-813) days, 53 patients (19.5%) died and 103 patients (37.9%) died and/or required readmission. Plasma galectin-3 levels by tertiles were associated with an increased risk for the primary end point (P < 0.001). Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that the third tertile of galectin-3 was associated with an increased rate of MACE, compared with the first and second tertiles, with the log rank P < 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively. In addition, the multivariate COX regression model showed that the highest tertile of galectin-3 was associated with an increased risk for MACE (HR =2.13, 95% confidence interval: 1.24-3.68, P = 0.006), compared with the lowest tertile after adjustment for age, NT-proBNP, creatinine, uric acid, albumin, haemoglobin, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Conclusion Plasma galectin-3 is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality and/or readmission in Chinese patients with HF.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the prevalence and clinicopathological features of aortic aneurysm (AA) in elderly inpatients at autopsy. METHODS: All the AA cases were retrospectively analyzed in 909 autopsy cases aged 60-100 years in our hospital. The pathological changes, comorbidities and death reasons were evaluated. RESULTS: AA was diagnosed pathologically in 59 patients (6.5%), clinical diagnosis was not made in 37(62.7%) cases. The AA prevalence in patients aged ≥ 80 years was significantly higher than patients <80 years (10.2% vs. 2.9%, χ(2)=19.97, P<0.01). Abdominal AA was more common (91.5%) and the prevalence of multiple AA was 20.3%. Coronary artery disease (CAD) was diagnosed in 44 AA patients (74.6%) including 21(35.6%) with severe coronary artery stenosis and 7(11.9%) with three-vessel disease, 31 patients (52.5%) died of cardiac-cerebral diseases, including 7(11.9%) with ruptured AA. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of AA was high in elderly inpatients aged ≥80 years with a relatively high missed diagnosis rate. AA was often complicated with CAD. The main cause of death of AA patients was cardiac-cerebral diseases. The screening, evaluation and treatment of AA should be enhanced in elderly patients, especially in patients aged 80 years and over.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To define the pathological changes of coronary artery and compare the clinical diagnosis and pathological diagnosis differences in elderly patients aged 80 and over. METHODS: A total of 909 autopsy cases aged 60-100 years in our hospital from April 1st 1969 to October 31th 2013 were analyzed. The prevalence and pathological features of coronary artery disease (CAD) in cases aged 80 years and over were compared with those aged 60-79 years old. The misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis rate were calculated. RESULTS: The prevalence of CAD by autopsy (63.8% (289/453) vs. 39.9% (182/456), P<0.01), old myocardial infarction (OMI) by autopsy (63.0% (182/289) vs. 51.6% (94/182), P<0.05) and chronic myocardial ischemia by autopsy (22.5% (65/289) vs. 7.1% (13/182), P<0.01) were significantly higher while the prevalence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) by autopsy was significantly lower (22.1% (64/289) vs. 42.9% (78/182), P<0.01) in aged 80 and over group compared to 60-79 years old group. The misdiagnosis rate of CAD was 65.2% (107/164), the missed diagnosis rate of OMI was 62.1% (113/182) and the missed diagnosis rate of AMI was 37.5% (24/64) in the aged 80 and over group. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of CAD and misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis rate are high in dead inpatients aged 80 years and over. OMI is more common but often missed in this group. Thus, the diagnosis and evaluation of CAD should be enhanced in this patient group.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and safety of 5 mg perindopril arginine salt and 4 mg perindopril tert-butylamine salt for patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension. METHODS: The study was designed as multicenter, randomized, double-blind, active controlled trial with two parallel groups enrolling 524 participants with mild to moderate essential hypertension. After 2-week run-in period, 186 patients were enrolled and randomly treated with 5 mg perindopril arginine salt and 183 patients were enrolled and randomly treated with 4 mg perindopril tert-butylamine salt. The random sequence was generated by the I.R.I.S., and a balance was made in each center. After double-blind treatment for 8 weeks, the dose could be doubled for patients with uncontrolled BP ((SBP) ≥ 140 mmHg (1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa) or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥ 90 mmHg) and patients were treated for another 4 weeks. RESULTS: The sitting SBP was similarly decreased by (19.9 ± 17.2) mmHg in perindopril arginine group and (18.5 ± 14.7) mmHg (P = 0.000 5) in perindopril tert-butylamine group post 8 weeks treatment. Dose was doubled in 109 patients (59.9%) in perindopril arginine group and 116 patients (63.7%) in perindopril tert-butylamine group. At 12 weeks post therapy, the sitting SBP decreased by (19.8 ± 16.2) and (19.6 ± 16.3) mmHg respectively in the 2 groups. The decrease of sitting DBP was also similar in both groups (-12.0 ± 10.0) mmHg and (-11.0 ± 8.9) mmHg (P < 0.000 1), respectively. The control rate or response rate was also similar between the two groups (control rate over 8 weeks was 38.5% vs. 31.3%, 95% CI (-2.6-16.9), control rate over 12 weeks was 36.3% vs. 35.7%, 95% CI (-9.3-10.4), response rate over 8 weeks was 64.3% vs. 63.2%, 95% CI (-8.8-11.0), response rate over 12 weeks was 65.9% vs. 64.8%, 95% CI (-8.7-10.9)). Incidence of adverse events was low and similar in both therapy groups. CONCLUSIONS: The results show that perindopril arginine salt 5 mg is as efficient as perindopril tert-butylamine 4 mg on lowering BP for patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension. Both drugs have good safety profile and are well tolerated by patients in this cohort.

RESUMEN

The ambient stability is one of the focal points for applications of 2D materials, especially for those well-known air-sensitive ones such as black phosphorus (BP) and transitional metal telluride. Traditional methods of encapsulation, such as atomic layer deposition of oxides and heterogeneous integration of hexagonal boron nitride, can hardly avoid removal of encapsulation layer when the 2D materials are encapsulated for further device fabrication, which causes complexity and damage during the procedure. Here, a van der Waals encapsulation method that allows direct device fabrication without removal of encapsulation layer is introduced using Ga2O3 from liquid gallium. Taking advantage of the robust isolation ability against ambient environment of the dense native oxide of gallium, hundreds of times longer retention time of (opto)electronic properties of encapsulated BP and MoTe2 devices is realized than unencapsulated devices. Due to the ultra-thin high-κ properties of Ga2O3, top-gated devices are directly fabricated with the encapsulation layer, simultaneously as a dielectric layer. This direct device fabrication is realized by selective etching of Ga2O3, leaving the encapsulated materials intact. Encapsulated 1T' MoTe2 exhibits high conductivity even after 150 days in ambient environment. This method is therefore highlighted as a promising and distinctive one compared with traditional passivation approaches. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
