RESUMEN

Due to their significant capacity and reliable reversibility, transition metal sulphides (TMSs) have received attention as potential anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Nonetheless, a prevalent challenge with TMSs lies in their significant volume expansion and sluggish kinetics, impeding their capacity for rapid and enduring Na+ storage. Herein, a Cu1.96S@NC nanodisc material enriched with copper vacancies is synthesised via a hydrothermal and annealing procedure. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the incorporation of copper vacancies significantly boosts electrical conductivity by reducing the energy barrier for ion diffusion, thereby promoting efficient electron/ion transport. Moreover, the presence of copper vacancies creates ample active sites for the integration of sodium ions, streamlines charge transfer, boosts electronic conductivity, and, ultimately, significantly enhances the overall performance of SIBs. This novel anode material, Cu1.96S@NC, demonstrates a reversible capacity of 339 mAh g-1 after 2000 cycles at a rate of 5 A g-1. In addition, it maintains a noteworthy reversible capacity of 314 mAh g-1 with an exceptional capacity retention of 96% even after 2000 cycles at 20 A g-1. The results demonstrate that creating cationic vacancies is a highly effective strategy for engineering anode materials with high capacity and rapid reactivity.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The main edible part of the Lou onion is the pseudostem, which is highly valued for its distinctive flavour. However, harvesting decisions for the pseudostem are often based on size and market price, with little consideration given to flavour. By clarifying the growth of flavour in pseudostems, farmers and consumers may benefit from evidence-based insights that help optimize harvesting time and maximize flavour quality. RESULTS: This study employed amino acid analysis and gas chromatography-ion migration spectroscopy (GC-IMS) to elucidate the compounds of the pseudostem across different growth phases, and 17 amino acids and 61 volatile substances. Subsequently, analysis revealed that 18 compounds, including arginine (Arg), aspartic acid (Asp), glutamic acid (Glu), valine (Val), (E)-2-nonenal, decanal, 2,4-nonadienal, 2-octenal, (Z)-4-decenal, 2,4-decadienal benzeneacetaldehyde, linalool, eugenol, (Z)-6-nonen-1-ol, methyl anthranilate, 2-acetylpyridine, 3-sec-butyl-2-methoxypyrazine, and 2,6-dichlorophenol, were the key compounds in determining the flavour characteristics of the pseudostems, as assessed by taste activity value and relative odour activity value calculations. In addition, correlation analysis, focusing on five amino acids and 38 volatile compounds with variable importance for predictive components scores of >1, identified anisaldehyde, eugenol, (Z)-6-nonen-1-ol, 2,4-decadienal, 3-sec-butyl-2-methoxypyrazine, Arg, Asp, and Val as the key differentiators and contributors to the pseudostems flavour profile. CONCLUSION: During the rapid growth of Lou onions just before the emergence of flower stems, the pseudostem exhibited the most prominent flavour, making this stage most suitable for harvesting compared to the regreening growth stage and the rapid growth period of the aerial bulbs. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

Bud mutation is a common technique for plant breeding and can provide a large number of breeding materials. Through traditional breeding methods, we obtained a plum plant with bud mutations (named "By") from an original plum variety (named "B"). The ripening period of "By" fruit was longer than that of "B" fruit, and its taste was better. In order to understand the characteristics of these plum varieties, we used transcriptome analysis and compared the gene expression patterns in fruits from the two cultivars. Subsequently, we identified the biological processes regulated by the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Gene ontology (GO) analysis revealed that these DEGs were highly enriched for "single-organism cellular process" and "transferase activity". KEGG analysis demonstrated that the main pathways affected by the bud mutations were plant hormone signal transduction, starch and sucrose metabolism. The IAA, CKX, ARF, and SnRK2 genes were identified as the key regulators of plant hormone signal transduction. Meanwhile, TPP, the beta-glucosidase (EC3.2.1.21) gene, and UGT72E were identified as candidate DEGs affecting secondary metabolite synthesis. The transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq) data were also validated using RT-qPCR experiments. The transcriptome analysis demonstrated that plant hormones play a significant role in extending the maturity period of plum fruit, with IAA, CKX, ARF, and SnRK2 serving as the key regulators of this process. Further, TPP, beta-glucosidase (EC3.2.1.21), and UGT72E appeared to mediate the synthesis of various soluble secondary metabolites, contributing to the aroma of plum fruits. The expression of BAG6 was upregulated in "B" as the fruit matured, but it was downregulated in "By". This indicated that "B" may have stronger resistance, especially fungal resistance. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Apricot fruit has great economic value. In the process of apricot breeding using traditional breeding methods, we obtained a larger seedling (named Us) from the original variety (named U). And Us fruit is larger than U, taste better. Therefore, revealing its mechanism is very important for Apricot breeding. METHODS: In this study, de novo assembly and transcriptome sequencing (RNA-Seq) was used to screen the differently expressed genes (DEGs) between U and Us at three development stages, including young fruits stage, mid-ripening stage and mature fruit stage. RESULTS: The results showed that there were 6,753 DEGs at different sampling time. "Cellulose synthase (UDP-forming) activity" and "cellulose synthase activity" were the key GO terms enriched in GO, of which CESA and CSL family played a key role. "Photosynthesis-antenna proteins" and "Plant hormone signal transduction" were the candidate pathways and lhca, lhcb, Aux/IAA and SAUR were the main regulators. CONCLUSION: The auxin signaling pathway was active in Us, of which Aux/IAAs and SAUR were the key fruit size regulators. The low level of lhca and lhcb in Us could reveal the low demand for exogenous carbon, but they increased at mature stage, which might be due to the role of aux, who was keeping the fruit growing. Aux and photosynthesis maight be the main causes of appearance formation of Us fruits. Interestingly, the higher expression of CESA and CSL proved that Us entered the hardening process earlier than U. The advanced developmental progress might also be due to the role of Aux.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to examine the development of healthcare services efficiency in China since the reform of the healthcare system. By examining the development environment of healthcare services in China and examining the driving factors affecting the efficiency of healthcare services, we provide a reference for the future high-quality development of healthcare services in China. METHODS: A three-stage super-efficient slack-based measure (SBM) model with undesirable outputs was used to measure the efficiency of healthcae services in 31 Chinese provinces from 2009 to 2021, and a global Malmquist-Luenberger (GML) index was used to assess their spatiotemporal evolution characteristics and internal influencing mechanisms of healthcare services efficiency. RESULTS: The empirical results showed that the efficiency of China's healthcare services changed significantly from 2009-2014 and then remained stable. During the study period, the efficiency of healthcare services in the eastern region was higher than the national level, while it was lower in the western region. The results of the analysis of environmental factors indicated that an increase in population density reduced the redundancy of healthcare input resources and that economic development as well as an increase in government subsidies, contributed to an increase in the redundancy of healthcare input resources. The main contribution to the growth of healthcare sercices efficiency in China came from the technological innovation effect, and the growth was most significant in the western region. CONCLUSION: From 2009 to 2021, the efficiency of national healthcare services generally showed a slow upward trend, and the efficiency of healthcare services varied widely among regions. Under the existing environmental constraints, relevant departments in each region should strengthen technological innovation in healthcare services, completely focus on the regional catch-up effect, and promote the balanced development of regional health.

RESUMEN

The fish-flower symbiosis model is an eco-friendly sustainable farming technology combining plants, fish and microorganisms in a recirculating aquaculture system. However, there are few studies on the structure and diversity of microbial communities in fish intestines, culture water and plant roots during fish-flower symbiosis. Here, we cultured carp (Cyprinus carpio), crucian carp (Carassius auratus) and grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) with mint (Mentha spicala L.) and extracted total genomic DNA from intestinal microorganisms, culture-water microorganisms and root microorganisms for each fish species for high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes. Analysis of microbial community structure and diversity revealed changes in abundance of microbial genera in the intestines and culture water of each fish species, including changes in the dominant taxa. Pirellula, Truepera, Aquincola, Cetobacterium and Luteolibacter were widespread in the fish intestine, culture water and mint root system. This study revealed the effects of mint feeding on the structure and diversity of microbial communities of fish, water bodies and the mint root system during fish-flower symbiosis, providing a theoretical reference for the promotion and application of fish-flower (mint) symbiosis technology and healthy fish culture technology.

RESUMEN

Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the operational efficiency of public hospitals in Fujian Province and the factors responsible for the inefficiency of these hospitals and provide relevant suggestions for health policymakers in allocating service resources. Method: In the first stage of the research, the variables affecting the efficiency of hospitals were extracted by qualitative and quantitative methods, including literature optimization, gray related analysis and gray clustering evaluation. In the second stage, the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method was used to evaluate the operational efficiency of 49 hospitals of different levels and types selected by sampling in 2020. Finally, a Tobit regression model with introduced institutional factors and background factors was established to study the main influencing factors of hospital inefficiency. Results: In the first stage, 10 input variables and 10 output variables necessary from the mangers' point of view were identified to test efficiency. In the second stage, the average comprehensive TE, PTE, and SE of 49 sample hospitals was 0.802, 0.888, and 0.902, respectively. 22.45% of these hospitals met the effective criteria, i.e., the overall effective rate was 22.45%. The low SE value of the hospital was the main reason hindering the improvement of the comprehensive efficiency value. The overall effective rate of secondary public hospitals (30.77%) was higher than that of tertiary public hospitals (19.44%), and the overall effective rate of public specialized hospitals (30%) was higher than that of general public hospitals (18.92%). Based on the third stage results, the bed occupancy rate (BOR) and the proportion of beds (POB) were major factors affecting the operation efficiency of grade III hospitals (p < 0.01). However, the operating efficiency of grade II hospitals was significantly affected by POB and regional per capita GDP(GDPPC) (p < 0.05). Moreover, the impact of BOR and GDPPC was positive, and POB was negatively correlated with hospital operation efficiency. Conclusions: The study results indicated that the overall operation efficiency of public hospitals in Fujian Province is low. This study revealed that intervention should be strengthened from a policy and management perspective to improve the operation efficiency of public hospitals.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the potential application of tubularinterstitial biomarkers in the differential diagnosis of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) from non-diabetic kidney disease (NDKD), as well as investigate key clinical and pathological parameters to help improve the stratification of patients according to end-stage renal disease risk. METHODS: 132 type 2 diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease were enrolled. Patients were categorized into 2 groups according to the renal biopsy results: DKD (n = 61) and NDKD (n = 71).The independent factors of the occurrence of DKD and the diagnostic implications of tubular biomarkers were explored by logistic regression and receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis. Furthermore, predictors were analyzed by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression, and constructed a new model for predicting the unfavorable renal outcomes through Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. RESULTS: Serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (sNGAL) (OR = 1.007; 95%CI = [1.003, 1.012], p = 0.001) was identified as an independent risk factor for the occurrence of DKD in diabetic patients with CKD. Tubular biomarkers including sNGAL, N-acetyl-ß-D-glucosaminidase and ß2 microglobulin (ß2-MG) could complement albuminuria for DKD detection (AUC = 0.926, specificity = 90.14%, sensitivity = 80.33%).Moreover, among of the 47 variables, 4 predictors such as sNGAL, interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA)score, ß2-MG and estimated glomerular filtration rate were selected to construct a new model for predicting the unfavorable renal outcomes through regression analysis. sNGAL (HR = 1.004; 95%CI = [1.001, 1.007], p = 0.013), IFTA score of 2 (HR = 4.283; 95%CI = [1.086, 16.881], p = 0.038), and IFTA score of 3 (HR = 6.855; 95%CI = [1.766, 26.610], p = 0.005) were considered to be independent risk factors for unfavorable renal outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Tubulointerstitial injury in DKD is independently associated with renal function decline and routinely detected tubular biomarkers are able to enhance the level of non-invasive diagnosis of DKD beyond traditional factors.

RESUMEN

In the realm of extreme nanophotonics, nanogap plasmons support reliable field enhancements up to 1000, which provide unique opportunities to access a single molecule for strong coupling and a single atom for quantum catalysis. The quantum plasmonics are intriguing but difficult to modulate largely because of the lack of proper spacers that can reversibly actuate the sub-1-nm gaps. Here, we demonstrate that supramolecular systems made of oligoamide sequences can reversibly switch the gap plasmons of Au nanoparticles on mirror between classical and quantum tunneling regimes via supramolecular interactions. The results reveal detailed plasmon shift near the quantum tunneling limit, which fits well with both classical- and quantum-corrected models. In the quantum tunneling regime, we demonstrate that plasmonic hot electron tunneling can further blue shift the quantum plasmons because of the increased conductance in the nanogaps, making it a promising prototype of optical tunable quantum plasmonic devices.

RESUMEN

Lou onion (Allium fistulosum L. var. viviparum) is an abundant source of flavonols which provides additional health benefits to diseases. Genome-wide specific length amplified fragment (SLAF) sequencing method is a rapidly developed deep sequencing technologies used for selection and identification of genetic loci or markers. This study aimed to elucidate the genetic diversity of 122 onion accessions in China using the SLAF-seq method. A set of 122 onion accessions including 107 A.fistulosum L. var. viviparum Makino, 3 A.fistulosum L. var. gigantum Makino, 3 A.mongolicum Regel and 9 A.cepa L. accessions (3 whites, 3 reds and 3 yellows) from different regions in China were enrolled. Genomic DNA was isolated from young leaves and prepared for the SLAF-seq, which generated a total of 1,387.55 M reads and 162,321 high quality SNPs (integrity >0.5 and MAF >0.05). These SNPs were used for the construction of neighbor-joining phylogenetic tree, in which 10 A.fistulosum L. var. viviparum Makino accessions from Yinchuan (Ningxia province) and Datong (Qinghai province) had close genetic relationship. The 3 A.cepa L. clusters (red, white and yellow) had close genetic relationship especially with the 97 A.fistulosum L. var. viviparum Makino accessions. Population structure analysis suggested entire population could be clustered into 3 groups, while principal component analysis (PCA) showed there were 4 genetic groups. We confirmed the SLAF-seq approach was effective in genetic diversity analysis in red onion accessions. The key findings would provide a reference to the Lou onion germplasm in China.
