A series of interlaced 'tripe-shaped' nanoflake catalysts made of CuMn2O4werein situprepared on Ti mesh substrate through the associated methods of plasma electrolyte oxidation and hydrothermal technique. The surface morphology, elemental distribution and chemical state, phase composition and microstructure of CuMn2O4nanostructures prepared under different conditions were systemically investigated. To evaluate the catalytic activity, the CO oxidation as a probe reaction was used, and the results showed that 12h-Cu1Mn2-300 (hydrothermal reaction at 150 °C for 12 h, Cu/Mn = 1/2 in initial precursor, heat treatment temperature at 300 °C) exhibited the best CO oxidation capability withT100= 150 °C owe to the formation of uniform CuMn2O4nanosheet layersin situgrown on flexible Ti mesh and the synergistic effect of Cu and Mn species in spinel CuMn2O4, which makes it more active towards CO oxidation than pure copper/manganese oxides.

BACKGROUND: Neck pain is a prevalent condition that causes an enormous health care burden due to the lack of efficient therapies. As a promising technology, virtual reality (VR) has shown advantages in orthopedic rehabilitation. However, there is no meta-analysis evaluating the effectiveness of VR in neck pain management. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to review original randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effectiveness of VR for neck pain and to provide evidence for the clinical application of a new alternative approach for pain management. METHODS: A total of 9 electronic databases were systematically searched for relevant articles published from inception to October 2022. RCTs in English or Chinese that investigated VR therapy for participants with neck pain were included. The methodological quality and the evidence level were assessed using the Cochrane Back and Neck Risk of Bias tool and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) guideline, respectively. RESULTS: A total of 8 studies with 382 participants were included for the final analysis. For the pain intensity, the overall pooled effect size was 0.51, with a standardized mean difference (SMD) of -0.51 (95% CI -0.91 to -0.11; GRADE: moderate), favoring VR therapy compared with controls. Subgroups analyses revealed that significant differences in pain intensity were found in the multimodal intervention (VR in combination with other therapies) than in other interventions (SMD -0.45, 95% CI -0.78 to -0.13; GRADE: moderate), and better analgesic effects were also observed in patients with chronic neck pain receiving VR intervention (SMD -0.70, 95% CI -1.08 to -0.32; GRADE: moderate) and patients treated in the clinic or research unit (SMD -0.52, 95% CI -0.99 to -0.05; GRADE: moderate) than controls. Regarding other health outcomes, the VR experienced less disability, lower kinesiophobia, and greater kinematic function (cervical range of motion, mean and peak velocity). Nevertheless, the follow-up effects of VR therapy on pain intensity and disability were not found. CONCLUSIONS: Existing moderate evidence support VR as a beneficial nonpharmacological approach to improve pain intensity in patients with neck pain, with advantages to multimodal intervention, people with chronic neck pain, and clinic or research unit-based VR therapy. In recent decades, the rapid development of the global economy has led to a substantial increase in energy consumption, subsequently resulting in the emission of a significant quantity of toxic gases into the environment. So far, gas sensors based on polymer field-effect transistors (PFETs), a highly practical and cost-efficient strategy, have garnered considerable attention, primarily attributed to their inherent advantages of offering a plethora of material choices, robust flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. Notably, the development of functional organic semiconductors (OSCs), such as poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT), has been the subject of extensive scholarly investigation in recent years due to its widespread availability and remarkable sensing characteristics. This paper provides an exhaustive overview encompassing the production, functionalization strategies, and practical applications of gas sensors incorporating P3HT as the OSC layer. The exceptional sensing attributes and wide-ranging utility of P3HT position it as a promising candidate for improving PFET-based gas sensors.

BACKGROUND: The development of tumor tissue-infiltrating regulatory T cell (Treg) is incompletely understood. This study investigates the role of retinoblastoma cell (Rbc)-derived Twist­related protein 1 (Twist) in the Treg development. METHODS: The surgically removed Rb tissues were collected. Rbcs were cultured with CD4+ T cells to assess the role of Rbc-derived Twist in the Treg generation. RESULTS: We found that more than 90% Rbcs expressed Twist. Foxp3+ Tregs were detected in the Rb tissues that were positively correlated with the Twist expression in Rbcs, negatively associated with Rb patient survival and sight survival. Treating Rbcs with hypoxia promoted the Twist expression that could be detected in the cytoplasm, nuclei and on the cell surface. Twist activated CD4+ T cells by binding the TLR4/myeloid differentiation factor 2 complex and promoted the transforming growth factor-ß-inducible early gene 1 product and Foxp3 expression. These Rbc-induced Foxp3+ Tregs showed immune-suppressive function on CD8+ T cell proliferation. CONCLUSIONS: Rbcs express Twist, that induces IL-4+ Foxp3+ Tregs; the latter can inhibit CD8+ cytotoxic T cell activities. Therefore, Twist may play an important role in the pathogenesis of Rb.

BACKGROUND: Neuromuscular and quadriceps exercises have been shown to be effective approaches to relieve pain and to improve function for patients with knee osteoarthritis. In this study, we aim to provide an informative feasible model in which therapeutic exercise and education will be undertaken with physiotherapy supervision and instruction via video link. We also aim to explore the relationship between program-induced pain alleviation/functional improvements and reduction in irritability, which might be mediated through program-induced psychosocial benefits. METHODS: In this proposed two-parallel group (neuromuscular exercise versus quadriceps exercise), single-blinded, randomised controlled trial, participants aged ≥50 years with osteoarthritic knee pain will undergo a 12-week intervention, comprising video-linked education, supervised exercises, and a 12-week follow-up. Seven measurements will be taken to collect longitudinal data. A generalised estimating equation will be used to establish the adjusted difference in effectiveness on pain, function, irritability, and psychosocial outcomes between participants undertaking neuromuscular exercises and those undertaking quadriceps exercises. The primary outcomes are overall average pain in the knee joint during walking, as assessed through the 11-point Numerical Pain Rating Scale, and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index physical function subscale. Furthermore, pressure pain threshold and changes in self-report pain scores pre-, during, and post-exercise were also measured as an indication of irritability. In addition, both the 6-min walk test and a timed up & go test were used to assess walking function performance. Finally, patients' emotions (e.g., fear and catastrophising), self-trust, needs in terms of disease knowledge, mental resilience, social support and health-related quality of life were investigated. Two four-wave cross-lagged models will be used to investigate directional relationships, aiming to investigate the complex mechanisms concerning the effects of exercise programmes. DISCUSSION: Through summarising the study's strengths and limitations, this study may provide promising insights in terms of exercise therapy optimisation for people with knee osteoarthritis and/or other chronic pain within a psychosocial framework. TiO2 nanostructures that feature a two-dimensional (2D) morphology have attracted extensive attention in environment processing and energy conversion fields owing to their peculiarly large surface area and superior transfer efficiency of photogenerated carriers. In this work, we proposed a hybrid approach including a plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) and ion exchange strategy to in situ synthesize TiO2 nanosheets on a flexible Ti mesh substrate, in which the layered Na2Ti2O5 nanosheets were fabricated as a template. The TiO2 nanosheets are crystalline anatase phase and exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity and stability in removing phenol. With the modification of the Pt cocatalyst, the phenol degradation performance has been significantly enhanced. More importantly, the in situ grown TiO2 nanosheets on the flexible Ti mesh provide strong substrate adhesion that enables superior photocatalytic stability for cyclic degradation of phenol. It can be expected that the synthetic strategy proposed in this work can pave a solid way toward the in situ growth of various TiO2-based composite nanophotocatalysts with sufficient active sites and excellent photocatalytic properties, and thus, it will open up more opportunities for environment processing and energy conversion.

The deregulation of Bcl2L12 expression in cancer has been recognized, but the causative factors are unknown. Histone acetyltransferases (HAT) play critical roles in the regulation gene transcription. This study tests a hypothesis that the aberrant activities of HAT induce deregulation of Bcl2L12 in nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC). In this study, human NPC tissues were collected from the clinic. The expression of Bcl2L12 and HATs in NPC cells was analyzed by real time RT-PCR and Western blotting. NPC cell apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. The results showed that by screening the subtypes of HAT, the levels of HAT1 were uniquely higher in NPC as compared with non-cancer nasopharyngeal tissue. The levels of Bcl2L12 in NPC cells were positively correlated with HAT1. HAT1 involved in the STAT5 binding to the Bcl2L12 promoter. HAT1 increased the expression of Bcl2L12. Bcl2L12 mediated the effects of HAT1 on suppressing NPC cell apoptosis. Absorption of the HAT1 shRNA plasmid-carrying liposomes induced NPC cell apoptosis. In conclusion, inhibition of HAT1 can induce NPC cell apoptosis via increasing Bcl2L12 expression, which can be a potential therapy for NPC treatment.

Background: Telerehabilitation provide distant physical rehabilitation services and help overcome the barriers associated with face-to-face interventions for hip fractures. This study aims to analyse the progress of the application of telerehabilitation in hip fracture and reveal its research profile, hotspots and development trends. Methods: The articles and reviews related to telerehabilitation in hip fracture were retrieved from 1992 to 2024. A bibliometric visualization and comparative analysis of countries, institutions, journals, authors, references and keywords were conducted using Java-based CiteSpace and VOSviewer. Results: A total of 79 documents were obtained. Spain was the most academically influential country. The University of Granada was the most prolific institution. The author Ariza-vega P listed first in terms of publications and citations. Most publications were published in high academic impact journals. The major frontier keywords were "older adults," "functional recovery," "reliability," "mortality," "rehabilitation," "mobility" and "quality of life." The most popular keywords from 2020 to 2024 were "geriatric medicine," "family caregiver" and "digital health." Conclusions: The historical and prospective perspective in telerehabilitation following hip fracture were presented. A primary focus in the early years was the impact of telerehabilitation on functional independence for hip fracture patients. Future outcomes are expected to include patient satisfaction, health-related quality of life and psychiatric symptoms. Exercise was also designed to eliminate travel burdens and strengthen self-efficacy, and improve the physical and psychosocial function of hip fracture patients. This work will provide a fundamental reference as well as a directional guide for future research.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common and highly disabling disease that imposes a heavy burden on individuals and society. Although physical therapy is recommended as an important method to relieve OA symptoms, patients cannot continue treatment after returning home. Research on Internet telerehabilitation for knee osteoarthritis (KOA) can reduce pain and improve patient quality of life, and Internet of Things (IoT)-based telerehabilitation is a new form of delivering rehabilitation. This study will evaluate the effect of telerehabilitation via IoT, as a medium to deliver exercises, on pain and walking in patients with KOA. METHODS: This study is a single-blind randomized controlled trial. We will recruit 42 middle-aged and elderly patients with KOA aged ≥ 50 years and randomly divided into power cycling group, neuromuscular exercise group, and control group, and intervention will last for 12 weeks. Outcome measures will be taken at baseline and 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks post-intervention. The pre- and posttreatment differences in knee pain and physical function between participants undergoing power cycling and neuromuscular training and those in the control group will be determined by each scale. The effectiveness will be assessed by the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index Score (WOMAC) and an 11-point numerical pain rating scale. Walking function and quality of life will be assessed by the timed up and go and walk test, 6-min walk test, and quality of life health status questionnaires. DISCUSSION: The findings from this trial will establish the feasibility and effectiveness of IoT-based power cycling and neuromuscular training on elderly patients with KOA in the community. As a result, this trial may help provide experimental evidence for finding a better exercise method suitable for elderly patients with KOA in the community. The oxygen species of CeO2 nanocatalysts plays a key role in the CO oxidation. In this work, nanocrystalline CeO2 with infrared spectroscopy detectable surface superoxide (O2 -) species at room temperature is fabricated and CO oxidation is used as a probe reaction for the exploration of the characteristics of surface O2 - species on the CeO2 surface. We discover that the surface O2 - species have ignorable influences on the overall reaction rate of CO oxidation on pure ceria by comparing P-CeO2 (CeO2 prepared by precipitation method) with HT-CeO2 (CeO2 prepared by hydrothermal method). It is concluded that the reaction between CO molecules and surface O2 - species is the first and the fast step in the whole redox cycle, while the release of surface lattice oxygen is the second and the rate determining step of the catalysts. This work gives an intuitionistic exploration on the redox properties of pure nanocrystalline CeO2 with surface O2 - species and reveals the influences of these species in the whole redox circle of CO oxidation.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic musculoskeletal disease affecting the entire joint. Exercise therapy is the core treatment plan for non-surgical treatment of KOA, and tele-rehabilitation is also applied to KOA, but there is a lack of research on the comparison of pain and function recovery between different exercise methods combined Internet respectively. The study aims to compare the effects of power cycling and quadriceps training combined with online guidance separately on KOA mitigation of pain, recovery of function, quality of life, and adherence of participants in the community, compared to the control group. METHODS: This study is a single-blind, 12-week parallel randomized controlled trial. Seventy-two participants aged ≥ 50 years with KOA will be randomized into either the power cycling group, the quadriceps group or the control group. The intervention will be performed three times per week during 12 weeks. Outcome measures will be assessed at baseline, and at 4, 8, and 12 weeks after allocation. The primary outcome will be self-reported pain, assessed with the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) pain subscale. Secondary outcomes will include mitigation of knee pain, quality of life, improvement of functional physical performance, adherence of participants. DISCUSSION: By summarizing the study's strengths and limitations, this trial results may guide tele-rehabilitation of KOA in the community.Trial registration: The study was registered in the clinical trial registry ChiCTR2200059255, 27/04/2022.

Locoism threatens the sustainable development of animal husbandry in areas around the world with intensified desertification, especially in the western United States, western China, Canada, and Mexico, among other countries. This study was conducted to discover potential serum biomarkers in locoweed-poisoned rabbits and lay a foundation for early diagnosis of locoism. We performed iTRAQ labeling coupled with two-dimensional liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (2D LC-MS/MS), comparing locoweed-poisoned rabbits and healthy controls. A total of 78 differentially-expressed proteins (fold change > 1.5 or < 0.67) were identified in the locoweed-poisoned rabbits compared to healthy controls. We found that 57.70% of differentially-expressed proteins were functionally related, and through bioinformatics analysis, we were able to construct a network mainly in complement and coagulation cascades. Significant differences in thrombospondin 4 (THBS4), kininogen 1 (KNG1), hemoglobin (HBB), and complement factor I (CFI) between locoweed poisoned animals and controls were found (P < 0.05) and validated by western blotting. These results suggested that locoweed could damage neurocytes, lower immunity, and form thrombi in rabbits. Our study proposes potential biomarkers for locoism diagnosis and also provides a new experimental basis to understand the pathogenesis of locoism.

Currently, therapy for squamous cancer (SqC) is unsatisfactory. Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) has strong immune regulatory activity. This study tests the hypothesis that SEB enforces the effect of immunotherapy on SqC growth in a mouse model. C3H/HeN mice and the SqC cell line squamous cell carcinoma VII were used to create an SqC mouse model. Immune cell assessment was performed by flow cytometry. Real-time RT-PCR and western blotting were used to evaluate target molecule expression. An apoptosis assay was used to assess the suppressive effect of T helper-9 (Th9) cells on the SqC cells. The results showed that immunotherapy consisting of SEB plus SqC antigen significantly inhibited SqC growth in the mice. The frequency of Th9 cells was markedly increased in the SqC tissue and mouse spleens after treatment. SEB markedly increased the levels of signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 phosphorylation and the expression of histone deacetylase-1 (HDAC1) and PU.1 (the transcription factor of the interleukin 9 (IL-9) gene) in CD4+ T cells. Exposure to SqC-specific Th9 cells markedly induced SqC cell apoptosis both in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, the administration of SEB induces Th9 cells in SqC-bearing mice, and theseTh9 cells inhibit SqC growth.

The prevalence of nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is high in the southern area of China and some other districts in the world. The pathogenesis of NPC is unclear. It is reported that some microRNAs (miR) are involved in the progression of NPC. This study aims to investigate the role of miR-21 in the induction of immune tolerance of NPC. In this study, NPC tissue was collected from patients with NPC. Assessment of miR was performed with real time quantitative RT-PCR. Western blotting was used to assess proteins of interleukin 10 and nuclear factor I-A (NFI-A). Immune cells were analyzed by flow cytometry. The results showed that NPC cell line C666-1 and surgically removed NPC tissue expressed miR-21, which was upregulated by the presence of the Toll-like receptor 3 ligand, Poly I: C. Exposure to miR-21 increased the expression of NFI-A and interleukin (IL)-10 in naive B cells. High frequency of IL-10(+) B cells was detected in the NPC tissue. The NPC- or miR-21-primed B cells suppressed cytotoxic CD8(+) T cell activities. We conclude that NPC-derived miR-21 induces IL-10(+) B cells; the latter is capable of suppressing CD8(+) T-cell activities. miR-21 may be a potential target in the treatment of NPC.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To summarize endoscopic management of cerebrospinal rhinorrhea and position-determining means. METHOD: Fifteen cases of cerebrospinal rhinorrhea treated by endoscopic approach at our institution were analyzed retrospectively. Aetiology included accidental trauma (10), surgical trauma (4), idiopathic (1). All patients presented with CSF rhinorrhea. Six cases were operated after failure of conservative treatment. Two cases after failure of neurosurgical repair were referred to our department. The largest defect was as big as 2.5 cm x 1.5 cm. All patients were scanned by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging and confirmed by biochemistry test. Ten patients received high resolution spiral computed tomography bonding ventriculography. RESULT: We performed intranasal endoscopic repair in all 15 patients. All repairs were successful at the first attempt with a mean follow up of 20 months. One patient had light headache postoperatively and relieved with conservative treatment. All defects of skull base detected by computed tomography and ventriculography were confirmed in the operation. CONCLUSION: Intranasal endoscopic repair of cerebrospinal rhinorrhea can be an effective method. High resolution spiral computed tomography scan combined with ventriculography is a precise position-determining means. With the advancement of instrument and operative skill, the scope of endoscopic repair will further extend.
