RESUMEN

Overcoming the trade-off between short-circuited current (Jsc) and open-circuited voltage (Voc) is important to achieving high-efficiency organic solar cells (OSCs). Previous works modulated the energy gap between Frenkel local exciton (LE) and charge-transfer (CT) exciton, which served as the driving force of exciton splitting. Differently, our current work focuses on the modulation of LE-CT excitonic coupling (tLE-CT) via a simple but effective strategy that the 2-chlorothiophene (2Cl-Th) solvent utilizes in the treatment of OSC active-layer films. The results of our experimental measurements and theoretical simulations demonstrated that 2Cl-Th solvent initiates tighter intermolecular interactions with non-fullerene acceptor in comparison with that of traditional chlorobenzene solvent, thus suppressing the acceptor's over-aggregation and retarding the acceptor crystallization with reduced trap. Critically, the resulting shorter distances between donor and acceptor molecules in the 2Cl-Th treated blend efficiently strengthen tLE-CT, which not only promotes exciton splitting but also reduces non-radiative recombination. The champion efficiencies of 19.8 % (small-area) with superior operational reliability (T80: 586 hours) and 17.0 % (large-area) were yielded in 2Cl-Th treated cells. This work provided a new insight into modulating the exciton dynamics to overcome the trade-off between Jsc and Voc, which can productively promote the development of the OSC field.

RESUMEN

In this paper, a novel spatio-temporal self-constructing graph neural network (ST-SCGNN) is proposed for cross-subject emotion recognition and consciousness detection. For spatio-temporal feature generation, activation and connection pattern features are first extracted and then combined to leverage their complementary emotion-related information. Next, a self-constructing graph neural network with a spatio-temporal model is presented. Specifically, the graph structure of the neural network is dynamically updated by the self-constructing module of the input signal. Experiments based on the SEED and SEED-IV datasets showed that the model achieved average accuracies of 85.90% and 76.37%, respectively. Both values exceed the state-of-the-art metrics with the same protocol. In clinical besides, patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC) suffer severe brain injuries, and sufficient training data for EEG-based emotion recognition cannot be collected. Our proposed ST-SCGNN method for cross-subject emotion recognition was first attempted in training in ten healthy subjects and testing in eight patients with DOC. We found that two patients obtained accuracies significantly higher than chance level and showed similar neural patterns with healthy subjects. Covert consciousness and emotion-related abilities were thus demonstrated in these two patients. Our proposed ST-SCGNN for cross-subject emotion recognition could be a promising tool for consciousness detection in DOC patients.

RESUMEN

The moderate charge-transporting capability together with higher-lying energetic levels of self-assembling hole-transporting materials (SAMs) constrain the productive carrier extraction dynamics. To alleviate this issue, a synergetic chlorination and extended conjugation strategy is applied to explore a novel HTL, named 2Cl-TPA-CN-COOH. Indeed, the chlorinated head backbone would deepen the energetic level and strengthen the intramolecular push-pull effect, whereas the elongated conjugation unit would boost the carrier-transporting potential. Consequently, a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18.6% with upgraded stability is obtained in a 2Cl-TPA-CN-COOH cell. These results demonstrate a new insight of the molecular configuration of SAMs, which would contribute to the enhancements of performance and reliability in the OSC field.

RESUMEN

Background: Unlike the conventional spectral analyses of spectral computed tomography (CT) that cannot fully represent the whole lesion, the volumetric quantitative analysis reveals the information of the whole lesion and is of more accurate. So this study sought to evaluate the value of volumetric quantitative analysis in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma (ADC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SQCC). Methods: Fifty-seven patients with lung cancer confirmed by pathology, including 35 ADC and 22 SQCC patients, were retrospectively analyzed. Calcium concentration and effective-Z (Eff-Z) in plain scan (PS), iodine concentration, and water concentration in the arterial phase (AP) were measured. The Student t-test or rank-sum test was used to determine the statistically significant parameters. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used, and the corresponding area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity and specificity was calculated to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy in differential diagnosis of ADC and SQCC. Results: In the volumetric quantitative analysis of spectral CT, the concentration of calcium [(6.97±2.83) mg/cm3], Eff-Z (7.90±0.14), and iodine [1.42 (0.84) mg/cm3] was significantly higher in ADC than SQCC [(5.14±2.39) mg/cm3, (7.80±0.10), 1.16 (0.65) mg/cm3, t=2.513, 2.860, Z=-2.246, P=0.015, 0.006, 0.025], but the concentration of water was significantly lower in ADC [995.00 (38.70) mg/cm3] than SQCC [1,007.00 (14.38) mg/cm3, Z=-2.082, P=0.037]. Moreover, whether it's ADC or SQCC, the concentrations of calcium [(8.51±4.28) mg/cm3, (5.96±2.50) mg/cm3], Eff-Z (7.97±0.20, 7.86±0.13), and water [1,007.00 (14.38) mg/cm3, 1,029.28 (10.49) mg/cm3] were lower in the volumetric spectral analysis than the conventional spectral analysis, while the concentration of iodine [1.33 (0.80) mg/cm3, 0.94 (0.63) mg/cm3] was significantly higher in the volumetric spectral analysis than the conventional spectral analysis. The ROC curve analysis showed that the areas under the curves (AUC) (0.76, 0.76, 0.75, 0.71), sensitivity (66.7%, 66.7%, 66.7%, 85.2%), and specificity (92.3%, 84.6%, 86.9%, 69.2%) of the volumetric spectral analysis parameters for the differential diagnosis of ADC and SQCC were higher than those of the conventional spectral analysis [(0.65, 0.66, 0.73, 0.63), (44.4%, 48.1%, 59.3%, 66.7%), (69.2%, 69.2%, 84.6%, 53.8%)] parameters. Conclusions: The volumetric quantitative analysis has a promising advantage in the observation range of whole lesions, it may be invaluable in the differential diagnosis of ADC and SQCC, and is worthy of clinical recommendation.

RESUMEN

Background: Despite the rich proximity and vascularization to the pelvic organs, metastatic lesions to the penis are incredibly uncommon. Most primary tumors are genitourinary cancers, and rectal origins are rare. Only 56 cases of metastatic penile tumors have been reported since 1870. Several palliative or curative methods, such as chemotherapy, total penectomy, and radiotherapy, have been applied to treat this condition in previous cases; however, the patient prognosis is poor. Immunotherapy is a beneficial treatment approach for multiple cancers, and recent investigations have shown that it may be beneficial for patients with advanced penile cancer. Case Description: Herein, we report the case of a 59-year-old Chinese man who had metastatic adenocarcinoma in the penile tissue 3 years after rectal cancer resection. The patient presented with penile pain and dysuria for 6 months when he was 54 years old, and Immunohistochemical staining showed that the origin was the rectum after total penectomy. The patient received surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy positively and still survived for a further 4 years and 6 months following penectomy despite the late metastasis of rectal cancer. There are two major changes and progress after penectomy, all of which have undergone surgical treatment during continuous treatment and follow-up, the patient completed right inguinal lymphadenectomy when his right regional nodes metastasis was found 23 months after penectomy. While the patient suffered from radiation injury after 47 months after penectomy, which led to radiation necrosis and hip soft tissue infection, and the patient tended to lay prone instead of lying on the back because of the hip pain. The patient ultimately died of multiple organ failure. Conclusions: All of the previously reported cases of penile metastasis from rectal cancer since 1870 have been reviewed. Yet, the metastatic prognosis remains poor regardless of the treatment options, except for lesions where metastasis is only limited to the penis. We found that the patient may derive more benefit from strategic therapies including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy.

RESUMEN

The design and synthesis of conductive hydrogels with antifreezing, long-term stable, highly sensitive, self-healing, and reusable is a critical procedure to enable applications in flexible electronics, medical monitoring, soft robotics, etc. Herein, a novel zwitterionic composite hydrogel possessing antifreezing, fast self-healing performance, water retention, and adhesion was synthesized via a simple one-pot method. LiCl, as an electrolyte and antifreeze, was promoted to dissociate under the electrostatic interaction with zwitterions, resulting in the composite hydrogels with high electrical conductivity (7.95 S/m) and excellent antifreeze ability (-45.3 °C). Meanwhile, the composite hydrogels could maintain 97% of the initial water content after exposed to air (25 °C, 55% RH) for 1 week due to the presence of salt ions. Moreover, the active groups of zwitterions could form conformal adhesion between the composite hydrogels and skin, which was particularly crucial for the stable signal output of the sensor. The dynamic borate ester bonds, active group of zwitterions, and the hydrogen bond between different components could achieve rapid self-healing (2 h, self-healing efficiency to 97%) without any external intervention. Notably, the developed PBAS-Li (poly(vinyl alcohol) Borax/acrylamide/zwitterionic-LiCl) hydrogel not only succeeded in sensitively detecting human motions but also could precisely captured handwritings signals and subtle pulse waves on the neck and wrist. The above findings demonstrated the great potential of PBAS-Li hydrogels in the field of flexible electronic devices.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Multiphase contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) can reveal the location, morphology, size, and enhancement pattern of gastric cancer (GC), whereas the three-dimensional reconstruction (3DR) technique can better display the relationships of the lesions with surrounding structures, the feeding vessels, and lymph node metastasis. Here, we investigated the value of multi-phase CECT with 3DR in detecting depth of infiltration, lymph node metastasis, and extramural vascular invasion (EMVI) of GC. METHODS: The clinical and imaging data of 132 GC patients admitted to the Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Third Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University during the period from January 2012 to October 2019 were collected. All patients received plain and multiphase contrast-enhanced CT scans. The agreement between the results of preoperative CT evaluation and the surgical/pathological findings was compared. RESULTS: (I) CT findings of GC of 3 differentiation levels: on the multiphase CECT, the peak enhancement percentage was highest in the portal venous phase. The CT values significantly differed among the arterial, portal venous, and equilibrium phases (P<0.05); the differences in the arterial, portal venous, and equilibrium phases were statistically significant among the well-, moderately, and poorly differentiated groups (all P<0.05); finally, the difference in the equilibrium phase was statistically significant between the well- and moderately differentiated groups (P<0.05). (II) Preoperative CT and postoperative pathology had good consistency in T staging (Kappa =0.667). (III) The Kappa values between the preoperative CT-diagnosed lymph node metastasis and postoperative pathologically showing an increasing consistency with the increase of CT enhancement differences. (IV) Preoperative CT and postoperative pathology had good consistency in N staging (Kappa =0.779). (V) Preoperative CT in displaying arterial supply to the stomach. The rate of positive EMVI was 32.6% (43/132) on preoperative CT. The positive EMVI diagnosed by preoperative CT was correlated with tumor size, growth pattern, tissue differentiation degree, T stage, and N stage (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Multiphase CECT combined with 3DR has high diagnostic performance in detecting the depth of infiltration, lymph node metastasis, and EMVI of GC.

RESUMEN

Objective. For patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC), such as vegetative state (VS) and minimally conscious state (MCS), communication is challenging. Currently, the communication methods of DOC patients are limited to behavioral responses. However, patients with DOC cannot provide sufficient behavioral responses due to motor impairments and limited attention. In this study, we proposed a hybrid asynchronous brain-computer interface (BCI) system that provides a new communication channel for patients with DOC.Approach.Seven patients with DOC (3 VS and 4 MCS) and eleven healthy subjects participated in our experiment. Each subject was instructed to focus on the square with the Chinese words 'Yes' and 'No'. Then, the BCI system determined the target square with both P300 and steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) detections. For the healthy group, we tested the performance of the hybrid system and the single-modality BCI system.Main results. All healthy subjects achieved significant accuracy (ranging from 72% to 100%) in both the hybrid system and the single modality system. The hybrid asynchronous BCI system outperformed the P300-only and SSVEP-only systems. Furthermore, we employed the asynchronous approach to dynamically collect the electroencephalography signal. Compared with the synchronous system, there was a 21% reduction in the average required rounds and a reduction of 105 s in the online experiment time. This asynchronous system was applied to detect the 'yes/no' communication function of seven patients with DOC, and the results showed that three of the patients (3 MCS) not only showed significant accuracies (67 ± 3%) in the online experiment, and their Coma Recovery Scale-Revised scores were also improved compared with the scores before the experiment. This result demonstrated that 3 of 7 patients were able to communicate using our hybrid asynchronous BCI system.Significance.This hybrid asynchronous BCI system can be used as a useful auxiliary bedside tool for simple communication with DOC patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUC-MSCs) are promising candidates for cell-based therapy in regenerative medicine or other diseases due to their superior characteristics, including higher proliferation, faster self-renewal ability, lower immunogenicity, a noninvasive harvest procedure, easy expansion in vitro, and ethical access, compared with stem cells from other sources. METHODS AND RESULTS: In the present study, we knocked down the expression of SOX9 in HUC-MSCs by lentivirus interference and found that knockdown of SOX9 inhibited the proliferation and migration of HUC-MSCs and influenced the expression of cytokines (IL-6 and IL-8), growth factors (GM-CSF and VEGF) and stemness-related genes (OCT4 and SALL4). In addition, the repair effect of skin with burn injury in rats treated with HUC-MSCs transfected with sh-control was better than that rats treated with HUC-MSCs transfected with shSOX9 or PBS, and the accessory structures of the skin, including hair follicles and glands, were greater than those in the other groups. We found that knockdown of the expression of SOX9 obviously inhibited the expression of Ki67, CK14 and CK18. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, this study will provide a guide for modifying HUC-MSCs by bioengineering technology in the future.
