RESUMEN

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation in Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) has endorsed and adopted the new interprofessional Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education (the Standards), which replace the previous ANCC Content Integrity Standards. The first column in this two-column series, which appeared last month, described the why, what, and when of the new Standards. This second column will address the how of the new Standards and will outline strategies to successfully implement the new Standards in accredited organizations. Case scenario examples will be discussed to provide clarity on applying the Standards to commonly encountered situations. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2022;53(2):52-54.].

RESUMEN

Some state boards of nursing have administrative rules related to continuing education. These may relate to requirements for providing continuing education and/or using evidence of continuing education to meet licensure renewal requirements. As the world of nursing professional development (NPD) continues to evolve, administrative rules often become outdated. One of the accountabilities of an NPD practitioner is to facilitate change in advocating for professional development. This column describes the process for working with state boards of nursing to change rules related to continuing education. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2021;52(5):208-210.].

RESUMEN

One of the hallmarks of quality continuing education developed using accreditation criteria is content integrity. Components of content integrity include identifying, resolving, and disclosing conflict of interest; ensuring content is based on the best available evidence; managing commercial support (if applicable); and presenting the educational activity free of promotion or bias. This article explores content integrity, conflict of interest, and commercial support. Understanding and being able to operationalize these concepts will enable providers to offer high-quality educational activities that promote the professional development of nurses and/or improve the quality of patient care.
