RESUMEN

Nitrogen (N) is of great significance to the absorption, distribution and detoxification of cadmium (Cd). Ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF) are able to affect the key processes of plant N uptake to resist Cd stress, while the mechanism is still unclear. Therefore, we explored potential strategies of Cenococcum geophilum (C. geophilum) symbiosis to alleviate Cd stress in Pinus massoniana (P. massoniana) from the perspective of plant N metabolism and soil N transformation. The results showed that inoculation of C. geophilum significantly increased the activities of NR, NiR and GS in the shoots and roots of P. massoniana, thereby promoting the assimilation of NO3- and NH4+ into amino acids. Moreover, C. geophilum promoted soil urease and protease activities, but decreased soil NH4+ content, indicating that C. geophilum might increase plant uptake of soil inorganic N. qRT-PCR results showed that C3 symbiosis significantly up-regulated the expression of genes encoding functions involved in NH4+ uptake (AMT3;1), NO3- uptake (NRT2.1, NRT2.4, NRT2.9), as well as Cd resistance (ABCC1 and ABCC2), meanwhile down-regulated the expression of NRT7.3, Cd transporter genes (HMA2 and NRAMP3) in the roots of P. massoniana seedlings. These results demonstrated that C. geophilum was able to alleviate Cd stress by increasing the absorption and assimilation of inorganic N in plants and inhibiting the transport of Cd from roots to shoots, which provided new insights into how EMF improved host resistance to abiotic stress.

RESUMEN

Human skin sensing of mechanical stimuli originates from transduction of mechanoreceptors that converts external forces into electrical signals. Although imitating the spatial distribution of those mechanoreceptors can enable developments of electronic skins capable of decoupled sensing of normal/shear forces and strains, it remains elusive. We report a three-dimensionally (3D) architected electronic skin (denoted as 3DAE-Skin) with force and strain sensing components arranged in a 3D layout that mimics that of Merkel cells and Ruffini endings in human skin. This 3DAE-Skin shows excellent decoupled sensing performances of normal force, shear force, and strain and enables development of a tactile system for simultaneous modulus/curvature measurements of an object through touch. Demonstrations include rapid modulus measurements of fruits, bread, and cake with various shapes and degrees of freshness.

PURPOSE: To describe the long-term bowel function of anorectal malformation (ARM) patients and explore the potential influence factors. METHODS: ARM patients with follow-up data > 10 years were included. Cases of cloaca, Currarino syndrome, and VACTERL syndrome were excluded. Rintala score and PedsQL 4.0 were used to assess bowel function score (BFS) and quality of life (QoL). Based on the results, patients were divided into satisfactory group with BFS ≥ 17 and unsatisfactory group with it < 17. Comparisons between the groups were made. RESULTS: Among the 81 patients were 44 males and 37 females. Follow-up time was 138 (126,151) months. 16 (19.75%) patients had associated anomalies. 23 (28.40%) patients had reoperations, and fistula recurrence was the most common reason. BFS of the patients was 20 (18,20). QoL score was 100 (100,100), which correlated positively with BFS (r = 0.648, P < 0.001). The satisfactory and the unsatisfactory groups had 69 and 12 cases, and their BFS were 20 (20,20) and 11 (8,15) respectively, which had statistical difference (P < 0.001). Total QoL score and psycho-social health score of the unsatisfactory group were lower (P < 0.001). Only reoperations were statistically different between the groups (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Long-term (> 10 years) bowel function of ARM patients is good in this study. Defecation problems have negative impacts on QoL and mainly affects their psycho-social health. Primary anorectoplasty is extremely important. Reoperations, which are most commonly seen in recto-urethral fistula recurrence, adversely affect the outcome.

The application of mycorrhizal fungi as a bioaugmentation technology for phytoremediation of heavy metal (HM) contaminated soil has attracted widespread attention. In order to explore whether the adaptation of Pinus massoniana (P. massoniana) to metal polluted soil depends on the metal adaptation potential of their associated ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF), we evaluated the cadmium (Cd) tolerance of 10 ecotypes of Cenococcum geophilum (C. geophilum) through a membership function method, and P. massoniana seedlings were not (NM) or inoculated by Cd non-tolerant type (JaCg144), low-tolerant (JaCg32, JaCg151) and high-tolerant (JaCg205) isolates of C. geophilum were exposed to 0 and 100 mg·kg-1 for 3 months. The result showed that, each ecotype of C. geophilum significantly promoted the growth, photosynthesis and chlorophyll content, proline (Pro) content and the activity of peroxidase (POD) of P. massoniana seedlings, and decreased malonaldehyde (MDA) content and catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. The comprehensive evaluation D value of the tolerance to Cd stress showed that the order of the displaced Cd resistance of the four ecotypic mycorrhizal P. massoniana was: JaCg144 > JaCg151 > JaCg32 > JaCg205. Pearson correlation analysis showed that the Sig. value of the comprehensive evaluation (D) values of the strains and mycorrhizal seedlings was 0.077 > 0.05, indicating that the Cd tolerance of the the C. geophilum isolates did not affect its regulatory effect on the Cd tolerance of the host plant. JaCg144 and JaCg151 which are non-tolerant and low-tolerant ecotype significantly increased the Cd content in the shoots and roots by about 136.64-181.75% and 153.75-162.35%, indicating that JaCg144 and JaCg151 were able to effectively increase the enrichment of Cd from the soil to the root. Transcriptome results confirmed that C. geophilum increased the P. massoniana tolerance to Cd stress through promoting antioxidant enzyme activity, photosynthesis, and lipid and carbohydrate synthesis metabolism. The present study suggests that mental-non-tolerant ecotypes of ECMF can protect plants from Cd pollution, providing more feasible strategies for ectomycorrhizal-assisted phytoremediation.

To explore the contribution of microorganisms to forest ecosystem function, we studied the ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungal and soil bacterial community of the five typical tree species (Pinus massoniana, PM; Castanopsis carlesii, CC; Castanopsis eyrei, CE; Castanopsis fargesii, CF; and Keteleeria cyclolepis, KC) at the Junzifeng National Nature Reserve. The results indicated that the ECM fungal and soil bacterial diversity of CC and CF was similar, and the diversity rates of CC and CF were higher than those of PM, CE, and KC. Cenococcum geophilum and unclassified_Cortinariaceae II were the most prevalent occurring ECM fungi species in the five typical tree species, followed by unclassified_Cortinariaceae I and Lactarius atrofuscus. In bacteria, the dominant bacterial genera were Acidothermus, Bradyrhizobium, Acidibacter, Candidatus_Solibacter, Candidatus_Koribacter, Roseiarcus, and Bryobacter. EMF fungi and soil bacteria were correlated with edaphic factors, especially the soil pH, TP, and TK, caused by stand development. The results show that the community characteristics of ECM fungi and bacteria in the typical tree species of the Junzifeng National Nature Reserve reflect the critical role of soil microorganisms in stabilizing forest ecosystems.

Pinus massoniana (Massion's pine), a pioneer tree species, exhibits restoration potential in polluted mining areas. However, the physiological and molecular mechanisms of ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi in Massion's pine adaptability to multiple-toxic-metal stress are still unclear. Hence, Massion's pine seedlings inoculated with two strains of C. geophilum, which were screened and isolated from a polluted mine area, were cultivated in mine soil for 90 days to investigate the roles of EMF in mediating toxic metal tolerance in host plants. The results showed that compared with the non-inoculation control, C. geophilum (CG1 and CG2) significantly promoted the biomass, root morphology, element absorption, photosynthetic characteristics, antioxidant enzyme activities (CAT, POD, and SOD), and proline content of Massion's pine seedlings in mine soil. C. geophilum increased the concentrations of Cr, Cd, Pb, and Mn in the roots of Massion's pine seedlings, with CG1 significantly increasing the concentrations of Pb and Mn by 246% and 162% and CG2 significantly increasing the concentrations of Cr and Pb by 102% and 78%. In contrast, C. geophilum reduced the concentrations of Cr, Cd, Pb, and Mn in the shoots by 14%, 33%, 27%, and 14% on average, respectively. In addition, C. geophilum significantly reduced the transfer factor (TF) of Cr, Cd, Pb, and Mn by 32-58%, 17-26%, 68-75%, and 18-64%, respectively, and the bio-concentration factor (BF) of Cd by 39-71%. Comparative transcriptomic analysis demonstrated that the differently expressed genes (DEGs) were mainly encoding functions involved in "transmembrane transport", "ion transport", "oxidation reduction process", "oxidative phosphorylation", "carbon metabolism", "glycolysis/gluconeogenesis", "photosynthesis", and "biosynthesis of amino acids." These results indicate that C. geophilum is able to mitigate toxic metals stress by promoting nutrient uptake, photosynthesis, and plant growth, thereby modulating the antioxidant system to reduce oxidative stress and reducing the transport and enrichment of toxic metals from the root to the shoot of Massion's pine seedlings.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the outcomes of the combination of ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous external drainage and subsequent definitive operation to manage complicated choledochal cyst in children. METHODS: This retrospective study included 6 children with choledochal cyst who underwent initial US-guided percutaneous external drainage and subsequent cyst excision with Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy between January 2021 and September 2022. Patient characteristics, laboratory findings, imaging data, treatment details, and postoperative outcomes were evaluated. RESULTS: Mean age at presentation was 2.7 ± 2.2 (0.5-6.2) years, and 2 patients (2/6) were boys. Four patients (4/6) had a giant choledochal cyst with the widest diameter of ≥ 10 cm and underwent US-guided percutaneous biliary drainage on admission or after conservative treatments. The other 2 patients (2/6) underwent US-guided percutaneous transhepatic cholangio-drainage and percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage due to coagulopathy, respectively. Five patients (5/6) recovered well after US-guided percutaneous external drainage and underwent the definitive operation, whereas 1 patient (1/6) had liver fibrosis confirmed by Fibroscan and ultimately underwent liver transplantation 2 months after external drainage. The mean time from US-guided percutaneous external drainage to the definitive operation was 12 ± 9 (3-21) days. The average length of hospital stay was 24 ± 9 (16-31) days. No related complications of US-guided percutaneous external drainage occurred during hospitalization. At 10.2 ± 6.8 (1.0-18.0) months follow-up, all patients had a normal liver function and US examination. CONCLUSIONS: Our detailed analysis of this small cohort suggests that US-guided percutaneous external drainage is technically feasible for choledochal cyst with giant cysts or coagulopathy in children, which may provide suitable conditions for subsequent definitive operation with a good prognosis. Automatic Medical segmentation of medical images is an important part in the field of computer medical diagnosis, among which tumor segmentation is an important branch of medical image segmentation. Accurate automatic segmentation method is very important in medical diagnosis and treatment. Positron emission computed tomography (PET) and X-ray computed tomography (CT) images are widely used in medical image segmentation to help doctors accurately locate information such as tumor location and shape, providing metabolic and anatomical information, respectively. At present, PET/CT images have not been effectively combined in the research of medical image segmentation, and the complementary semantic information between the superficial and deep layers of neural network has not been ensured. To solve the above problems, this paper proposed a Multi-scale Residual Attention network (MSRA-Net) for tumor segmentation of PET/CT. We first use an attention-fusion based approach to automatically learn the tumor-related areas of PET images and weaken the irrelevant area. Then, the segmentation results of PET branch are processed to optimize the segmentation results of CT branch by using attention mechanism. The proposed neural network (MSRA-Net) can effectively fuse PET image and CT image, which can improve the precision of tumor segmentation by using complementary information of the multi-modal image, and reduce the uncertainty of single modal image segmentation. Proposed model uses multi-scale attention mechanism and residual module, which fuse multi-scale features to form complementary features of different scales. We compare with state-of-the-art medical image segmentation methods. The experiment showed that the Dice coefficient of the proposed network in soft tissue sarcoma and lymphoma datasets increased by 8.5% and 6.1% respectively compared with UNet, showing a significant improvement.

Objectives: The low COVID-19 vaccine uptake rate among pregnant women is mainly due to safety concerns about COVID-19 vaccines due to limited safety evidence. Our goal was to evaluate the safety of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy with up-to-date evidence. Methods: A comprehensive search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and clinicaltrials.gov was performed on April 5th, 2022, and updated on May 25th, 2022. Studies evaluating the association of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes were included. Two reviewers independently performed the risk of bias assessment and data extraction. Inverse variance random effect meta-analyses were performed to pool outcome data. Results: Forty-three observational studies were included. COVID-19 vaccination [96,384 (73.9%) BNT162b2, 30,889 (23.7%) mRNA-1273, and 3,172 (2.4%) other types] during pregnancy [23,721 (18.3%) in the first trimester, 52,778 (40.5%) in the second trimester, and 53,886 (41.2%) in the third trimester].was associated with reduced risks of stillbirth or neonatal death (OR, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.60-0.92). Sensitivity analysis restricted to studies in participants without COVID-19 showed that the pooled effect was not robust. COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy was not associated with congenital anomalies (OR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.63-1.08), preterm birth (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.90-1.06), NICU admission or hospitalization (OR, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.84-1.04), an Apgar score at 5 min <7 (OR, 0.93; 95% CI, 0.86-1.01), low birth weight (OR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.88-1.14), miscarriage (OR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.88-1.11), cesarean delivery (OR, 1.07; 95% CI, 0.96-1.19), or postpartum hemorrhage (OR, 0.91; 95% CI, 0.81-1.01). Conclusions: COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy was not associated with any of the adverse neonatal or maternal outcomes studied. Interpretation of study findings is limited by the types and timing of vaccination. The vaccinations in our study received during pregnancy were primarily mRNA vaccines administered in the second and third trimester. Future RCTs and meta-analysis are warranted to evaluate the efficacy and long-term effects of the COVID-19 vaccines. Background: Congenital perineal groove (CPG) of male patients has rarely been reported before. The purpose of this study was to review our cases and describe their characteristics and treatment. Methods: Four male patients diagnosed with CPG were included in this study. Medical records were retrospectively reviewed. Type of CPG and anal position index (API) of the patients were recorded. Follow-up was through outpatient visits. Results: Their age ranged from 4 years and 2 months to 10 years and 9 months. Among the four patients, two complained of intermittent CPG mucosal hemorrhage and the other two had mucous secreting and soiling. The API was 0.24, 0.35, 0.36, and 0.40 for each patient, respectively, all represented anterior displacement. Type of CPG for the four patients were all partial, and the sulcus was from the posterior perineum to the edge of anus. Two patients were associated with hydrocele, imperforated anus, and rectoperineal fistula; one patient had left varicocele; the remaining patient had sacrum split. All the patients had no postoperative complication, and during the follow-up period of 5-8 months, no symptoms recurred in the four patients; they all had normal defecation. Conclusions: Both genders share the common three characteristics. In addition, shortened perineum with anterior anus, association of perineal malformations, and partial type occurrence are the extra morphological features in male patients. Furthermore, CPG in males are rarely accompanied by urinary tract infection. Favorable prognosis could be reached after operation.

PURPOSE: To summarize the experience of surgical treatment of children diagnosed with Currarino syndrome, with an emphasis on the selection of an optimal operative approach. METHODS: The clinical materials of patients diagnosed with Currarino syndrome were recorded. Special attention was given to the operative management, particularly the different routes for operation. The type of ARM was the critical point. The Rintala score was used for the evaluation of bowel function. RESULTS: The medical records of 26 patients were reviewed. Seven were male, and 19 were female, with a mean age of 19.38 ± 13.80 months. The standard posterior sagittal approach (SPS) group included three perineal fistulae, one anal stenosis, one retraction of the rectum after anoplasty for vestibular fistula, one ARM with no fistula, one rectourethral fistula, and one cloaca. In the limited posterior sagittal approach (LPS) group, there were 13 perineal fistulae, one displacement of the rectum, and one retraction of the rectum after anoplasty for the vestibular fistula. In addition, the transanal approach (TA) and anterior sagittal approach (AS) were also used. The mean follow-up time was 39.48 ± 26.84 m. The Rintala score was 16.74 ± 2.93. CONCLUSION: For a perineal fistula, SPS or LPS should be used to reach anoplasty and remove the presacral mass. For a vestibular fistula, the AS or LPS should be chosen. For anal stenosis, SPS or LPS should be used.

BACKGROUND: Gallstones are common in hereditary spherocytosis (HS) and other chronic hemolytic diseases, with most affected patients being asymptomatic. Whether and how asymptomatic gallstones should be treated is controversial. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of pediatric patients with HS and asymptomatic gallstones to compare the clinical outcomes between the observation group (followed up with gallstones in situ) and the intervention group (cholecystectomy or cholecystolithotomy). The primary outcome was the composite of adverse outcomes, including gallstone-associated, gallbladder surgery-associated, and splenectomy-associated events. Secondary outcomes included the changes in the size and number of gallstones and the recurrence of gallstones. RESULTS: Fifty-two patients were included (38 in the observation group and 14 in the intervention group), with a mean follow-up length of 5.2 years. Patients in the intervention group had a lower incidence of primary outcomes (7.1% vs. 42.1%) than patients in the observation group (OR, 0.12; 95%CI, 0.01-0.99). Patients with gallstones >5 mm in diameter had the highest risk of adverse events (47.4%). In the observation group, gallstone growth, disappearance, and stability were observed in 19.4%, 29.0%, and 51.6% of splenectomized HS patients, respectively. Small gallstones (diameter ≤5 mm) or sludge were more likely to be associated with disappearance (P = 0.04). CONCLUSIONS: Most asymptomatic gallstones grow or persist in splenectomized HS patients for an extended period. Surgical treatment of asymptomatic gallstones in HS patients requiring splenectomy is associated with a lower risk of adverse outcomes. LEVELS OF EVIDENCE: III (retrospective comparative study).

BACKGROUND: The infectious burden in hereditary spherocytosis (HS) children before splenectomy has rarely been reported and the risk of severe postsplenectomy infection is controversial. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of pediatric patients with HS to evaluate the risk of infection presplenectomy and postsplenectomy. The primary outcome was any bacterial, Mycoplasma, or fungal infection that required hospitalization. The secondary outcomes were sepsis and septic shock. Appendectomized children were matched on age at surgery and enrolled as controls. RESULTS: In all, 232 patients were included. Before splenectomy, the primary outcome was identified in 51 (22.0%) patients, and the secondary outcome was identified in 1 (0.4%) patient. After splenectomy, the primary and secondary outcomes were detected in 8 (4.1%) and 1 (0.5%) patients, respectively. The risk of infection was higher presplenectomy than postsplenectomy (OR, 6.6; 95% CI, 3.0-14.2). HS patients had a higher risk of infection than the controls before surgery (OR, 3.7; 95% CI, 2.3-5.9) but not after surgery (OR, 1.4; 95% CI, 0.6-3.6). CONCLUSIONS: HS patients who require splenectomy later in life had a high incidence of hospitalization for infections. In contrast, postsplenectomy risk of hospitalization involving infection or severe infection was low. IMPACT: Patients with hereditary spherocytosis who require splenectomy later in life have a high risk of hospital admission for infections, especially those with severe hereditary spherocytosis. With vaccines or postoperative antibiotics, splenectomy does not increase the risk of infection or severe infections. Splenectomy may reduce the risk of hospitalization for infections by alleviating the complications of hereditary spherocytosis. With vaccines, prophylaxis, or advanced antibiotics, the benefits of splenectomy in children with hereditary spherocytosis and a heavy disease burden may outweigh the risks.

RESUMEN

The climbing microrobots have attracted growing attention due to their promising applications in exploration and monitoring of complex, unstructured environments. Soft climbing microrobots based on muscle-like actuators could offer excellent flexibility, adaptability, and mechanical robustness. Despite the remarkable progress in this area, the development of soft microrobots capable of climbing on flat/curved surfaces and transitioning between two different surfaces remains elusive, especially in open spaces. In this study, we address these challenges by developing voltage-driven soft small-scale actuators with customized 3D configurations and active stiffness adjusting. Combination of programmed strain distributions in liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) and buckling-driven 3D assembly, guided by mechanics modeling, allows for voltage-driven, complex 3D-to-3D shape morphing (bending angle > 200°) at millimeter scales (from 1 to 10 mm), which is unachievable previously. These soft actuators enable development of morphable electroadhesive footpads that can conform to different curved surfaces and stiffness-variable smart joints that allow different locomotion gaits in a single microrobot. By integrating such morphable footpads and smart joints with a deformable body, we report a multigait, soft microrobot (length from 6 to 90 mm, and mass from 0.2 to 3 g) capable of climbing on surfaces with diverse shapes (e.g., flat plane, cylinder, wavy surface, wedge-shaped groove, and sphere) and transitioning between two distinct surfaces. We demonstrate that the microrobot could navigate from one surface to another, recording two corresponding ceilings when carrying an integrated microcamera. The developed soft microrobot can also flip over a barrier, survive extreme compression, and climb bamboo and leaf.

Background: Preoperative complications of mesenteric lymphatic malformations (ML) in children are various and complex. We aim to analyze the incidences and risk factors of three major preoperative complications (hemorrhage of the cyst, infection of the cyst and intestinal volvulus) in ML patients, and explore their influence on the outcomes. Methods: This retrospective cohort study enrolled ML patients undergoing surgery at Beijing Children's Hospital between June 2016 and June 2022 and classified them according to different preoperative complications, preoperative hemorrhage or infection, and preoperative intestinal volvulus. The groups were examined and compared according to sex, age at admission, presenting symptoms, laboratory examinations, imaging examinations, preoperative treatments, cyst characteristics, surgical details, perioperative clinical data, and follow-up. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the independent risk factors for preoperative hemorrhage or infection, and preoperative intestinal volvulus. Results: Of the 104 enrolled ML patients, 27 (26.0%) had preoperative hemorrhage or infection, and 22 (21.2%) had preoperative intestinal volvulus. Univariate analysis showed that patients with preoperative hemorrhage or infection had a higher rate of ML in the mesocolon (44.4 vs. 23.4%, p < 0.038) and larger cysts (10 vs. 8 cm, p = 0.042) than patients without preoperative hemorrhage or infection. Multivariable logistic regression analysis found that the location (OR, 3.1; 95% CI, 1.1-8.6; p = 0.026) and size of the cyst (≥7.5 cm) (OR, 6.2; 95% CI, 1.6-23.4; p = 0.007) were independent risk factors for preoperative hemorrhage or infection. Preoperative intestinal volvulus was only found in ML at the intestinal mesentery. Further analysis showed that ML in the jejunal mesentery was an independent risk factor for preoperative intestinal volvulus (OR, 3.3; 95% CI, 1.1-10.0; p = 0.027). Patients with preoperative hemorrhage or infection spent more on hospitalization costs than patients without preoperative hemorrhage or infection (3,000 vs. 2,674 dollars, p = 0.038). Conclusions: ML patients should be treated as soon as possible after diagnosis. The location and size of the cyst were independent risk factors for preoperative hemorrhage or infection. ML in the jejunal mesentery was an independent risk factor for preoperative intestinal volvulus.

High temperature stress caused by global warming presents a challenge to the healthy development of forestry. Cenococcum geophilum is a common ectomycorrhizal fungus (ECMF) in the forest system and has become an important fungus resource with application potential in forest vegetation restoration. In this study, three sensitive isolates of C. geophilum (ChCg01, JaCg144 and JaCg202) and three tolerant isolates of C. geophilum (ACg07, ChCg28 and ChCg100) were used to analyze the physiological and molecular responses to high temperature. The results showed that high temperature had a significant negative effect on the growth of sensitive isolates while promoting the growth of tolerant isolates. The antioxidative enzymes activity of C. geophilum isolates increased under high temperature stress, and the SOD activity of tolerant isolates (A07Cg and ChCg100) was higher than that of sensitive isolates (ChCg01 and JaCg202) significantly. The tolerant isolates secreted more succinate, while the sensitive isolates secreted more oxalic acid under high temperature stress. Comparative transcriptomic analysis showed that differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of six C. geophilum isolates were significantly enriched in "antioxidant" GO entry in the molecular. In addition, the "ABC transporters" pathway and the "glyoxylate and dicarboxylic acid metabolic" were shared in the three tolerant isolates and the three sensitive isolates, respectively. These results were further verified by RT-qPCR analysis. In conclusion, our findings suggest that C. geophilum can affect the organic acid secretion and increase antioxidant enzyme activity in response to high temperature by upregulating related genes.

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT) has radiation problems, and high-quality CT scanning is usually accompanied by high doses of radiation that can be harmful to humans, so low-dose CT denoising has received extensive academic attention. METHOD: In this paper, firstly, the concept of deviant features is proposed which lead to the hypothesis of correlation between noise and deviant features. Secondly, in order to estimate the noise in CT, a new method of deviant feature perception and downsampling is proposed. Specifically, the deviant feature perception module based on the multi-scale convolutional cooperative (MSC-DFPM) and Filtering module based on the self-information space attention(SISA-FM) are proposed, and construct the deviant feature sensitive noise estimate network (DFSNE-Net), then a balanced loss function and training strategy adapted to the DFSNE-Net are proposed. Finally, noise distribution normalization based on skewness and kurtosis(SK-NDN) and low credible noise suppression based on confidence interval(CI-LCNS) as the noise optimization methods are proposed to optimize the estimated noise of DFSNE-Net, which is applied to the denoising task of CT. CONCLUSIONS: Experiments and results demonstrate that our proposed denoising method in this paper obtains a better denoising effect than the current state-of-the-art denoising methods in different evaluation indicator, which proves the hypothesis that noise is strongly correlated with deviant features. It is also proved that the denoising method proposed in this paper can achieve the denoising task for different doses of CT.

Electronic devices with engineered three-dimensional (3D) architectures are indispensable for frictional-force sensing, wide-field optical imaging, and flow velocity measurement. Recent advances in mechanically guided assembly established deterministic routes to 3D structures in high-performance materials, through controlled rolling/folding/buckling deformations. The resulting 3D structures are, however, mostly formed on planar substrates and cannot be transferred directly onto another curved substrate. Here, we introduce an ordered assembly strategy to allow transformation of 2D thin films into sophisticated 3D structures on diverse curved surfaces. The strategy leverages predefined mechanical loadings that deform curved elastomer substrates into flat/cylindrical configurations, followed by an additional uniaxial/biaxial prestretch to drive buckling-guided assembly. Release of predefined loadings results in an ordered assembly that can be accurately captured by mechanics modeling, as illustrated by dozens of complex 3D structures assembled on curved substrates. Demonstrated applications include tunable dipole antennas, flow sensors inside a tube, and integrated electronic systems capable of conformal integration with the heart.

PURPOSE: Caudal duplication syndrome (CDS) has rarely been reported. The purpose was to describe the characteristics and discuss possible pathogenesis of CDS by reviewing our experience along with a comprehensive literature review. METHODS: A total of 51 patients including 3 from our team and 48 from literature were selected in this study. General condition, clinical manifestations, type of anomalies, treatment and prognosis was analyzed and summarized. RESULTS: Among the 51 patients were 30 females and 21 males, and age at first clinical visit was from birth to 39 years old. Except 12 patients, most of the patients had no troubling clinical manifestation. Physical examination showed that 30 patients had 1 perineum, 21 patients had 2 completely independent perineums. Degree of duplication varied; colon-rectum tubular, bladders and urethras, vaginas in females and penis shafts and glans in males were found to be the most common type of alimentary system and urogenital system duplication in this study with 24/51, 41/51, 10/30 and 16/21 patients, respectively. Anorectal malformation was calculated: 18 had 2 ARMs, 14 had 1 normal anus and 1 ARM on the other side, 12 had a normal anus, 5 had 2 normal anus, the remaining 2 patients had only 1 ARM. Spinal cord anomalies were showed as meningomyeloceles and lipomas in 13 and 3 patients. Vertebral anomalies of bifid, dysplasias, scoliosis, and hemivertebra were noticed in 28 patients and accessory dysplasia lower limbs were found in 10 patients. Prognosis showed 39 of the 51 patients had normal function in urination and defecation. CONCLUSIONS: CDS is an extremely rare disease with uncertain pathogenesis. Colon-rectum tubular duplication with two ARMs, duplicated bladders and urethras, double vaginas in females and penis shafts and glans in males are the most common type. Long-term prognosis is good with multidisciplinary, individualized and staged surgical procedures.
