ABSTRACT

Scientific interest in luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) has reemerged mainly due to the application of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) as highly efficient luminophores. Recently, LSCs have become attractive proposals for Building-Integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) since they could help conventional photovoltaics to improve sunlight harvesting and reduce production costs. However, most of the modern LSCs rely on heavy-metal QDs which are highly toxic and may cause environmental concerns. Additionally, their absorption spectra give them a characteristic color limiting their potential application in BIPV. Herein, we fabricated transparent and colorless LSCs by embedding nontoxic and cost-effective zinc oxide quantum dots (ZnO QDs) in a PMMA polymer matrix (ZnO-LSC), preserving the QD optical properties and PMMA transparency. The synthesized colloidal ZnO QDs have an average size of 5.5 nm, a hexagonal wurtzite crystalline structure, a broad yellow photoluminescent signal under ultraviolet excitation, and are highly visibly transparent at the employed concentrations (>95% in wavelengths above 400 nm). The optical characterization of the fabricated ZnO-LSCs showed a good visible transparency of 80.3% average visible transmission (AVT), with an LSC concentration factor (C) of 1.02. An optimal device (ZnO-LSC-O) could reach a C value of 2.66 with the combination of optical properties of colloidal ZnO QDs and PMMA. Finally, simulations of the performance of silicon solar cells coupled to the fabricated and optimal LSCs under standard AM 1.5G illumination were performed employing the software COMSOL Multiphysics. The fabricated ZnO-LSC achieved a simulated maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.80%, while the optimal ZnO-LSC-O reached 5.45%. Also, the ZnO-LSC generated a maximum power of 15.02 mW and the ZnO-LSC-O generated 40.33 mW, employing the same active area as the simulated solar cell directly illuminated, which generated 14.39 mW. These results indicate that the ZnO QD-based LSCs may be useful as transparent photovoltaic windows for BIPV applications.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: After the publication of the new standardized nomenclature for the specialty of Otorhinolaryngology in 2021, a joint adaptation was carried out with the Spanish Society of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Therapy (SEDAR), creating an executive version. In this version, the Anesthesia groups are added for those procedures that require it and, in addition, the number of acts is reduced to facilitate its implementation in the daily basis healthcare activity. The aim of this article is to update the definitive executive version of the nomenclature for the specialty of Otolaryngology. METHODS: The nomenclature published in 2021 was updated, reducing the number of acts and procedures. For this purpose, a grouping of procedures similar in description and in order and ranking has been made. Those procedures that have been grouped together have received a new description that reflects all the acts included in order to facilitate its coding but respecting the essence of the proposal of the complete version of the 2021 nomenclature. Subsequently, the private medicine committee of SEDAR has assigned the anaesthetic act for those procedures that may require it. In addition, a provisional code has been assigned for those acts that are new with respect to the latest version approved by the OMC, which allows their numerical identification. RESULTS: The executive version of the nomenclature presents a total of 234 medical acts, compared to 395 listed in the 2021 version, which are distributed by OMC classification groups and ENT subspecialties. One-hundred and fourteen procedures maintain the original OMC code, with some modifications in the description of the medical act. Other procedures also performed by ENT but listed elsewhere were kept with their same description and group and assigned OMC codes. The remaining 120 procedures are new proposals made by the scientific society and its subspecialty committees. CONCLUSIONS: The executive version of the new nomenclature of Otorhinolaryngology proposed by the SEORL-CCC and SEDAR updates the one from 2021 and is the only one valid in our specialty for its use in the private healthcare daily practice. The reduction of medical procedures, without losing richness or modifications of the surgical groups, and the allocation of the anesthesia scales, facilitates its implementation, and provides the highest standards of quality and clinical timelines.

ABSTRACT

Neotropical ecosystems are renowned for numerous examples of adaptive radiation in both plants and animals resulting in high levels of biodiversity and endemism. However, we still lack a comprehensive review of the abiotic and biotic factors that contribute to these adaptive radiations. To fill this gap, we delve into the geological history of the region, including the role of tectonic events such as the Andean uplift, the formation of the Isthmus of Panama, and the emergence of the Guiana and Brazilian Shields. We also explore the role of ecological opportunities created by the emergence of new habitats, as well as the role of key innovations, such as novel feeding strategies or reproductive mechanisms. We discuss different examples of adaptive radiation, including classic ones like Darwin's finches and Anolis lizards, and more recent ones like bromeliads and lupines. Finally, we propose new examples of adaptive radiations mediated by ecological interactions in their geological context. By doing so, we provide insights into the complex interplay of factors that contributed to the remarkable diversity of life in the Neotropics and highlight the importance of this region in understanding the origins of biodiversity.

ABSTRACT

Adequate medical nutrition therapy for critically ill patients has an impact on their prognoses. However, it requires an individualized approach that takes into account the activity (phases of metabolic stress) and particularity of these patients. We propose a comprehensive strategy considering the patients' nutritional status and the set of modifiable circumstances in these patients, in order to optimize/support nutritional efficiency: (1) A detailed anamnesis and an adequate initial nutritional assessment must be performed in order to implement medical nutrition therapy that is in line with the needs and characteristics of each patient. Furthermore, risks associated with refeeding syndrome, nutritrauma or gastrointestinal dysfunction must be considered and prevented. (2) A safe transition between nutrition therapy routes and between health care units will greatly contribute to recovery. The main objective is to preserve lean mass in critically ill patients, considering metabolic factors, adequate protein intake and muscle stimulation. (3) Continuous monitoring is required for the successful implementation of any health strategy. We lack precise tools for calculating nutritional efficiency in critically ill patients, therefore thorough monitoring of the process is essential. (4) The medical nutrition approach in critically ill patients is multidisciplinary and requires the participation of the entire team involved. A comprehensive strategy such as this can make a significant difference in the functional recovery of critically ill patients, but leaders must be identified to promote training, evaluation, analysis and feedback as essential components of its implementation, and to coordinate this process with the recognition of hospital management.

ABSTRACT

Patients with hematological malignancies (HMs) are more frequently admitted now than in the past to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to more aggressive approaches in primary therapy of HMs and the need for critical care support. Pathophysiological alterations derived from HMs and the different hematological therapies, such as chemotherapy, negatively affect gastrointestinal (GI) function, metabolism, and nutrition status. Further, malnutrition strongly influences outcomes and tolerance of the different hematological therapies. In consequence, these critically ill patients frequently present with malnutrition and pathophysiological alterations that create challenges for the delivery of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) in the ICU. Frequent screening, gauging tolerance, and monitoring nutrition status are mandatory to provide individualized MNT and achieve nutrition objectives. The present review discusses how HM impact GI function and nutrition status, the importance of MNT in patients with HM, and specific considerations for guidance in providing adequate MNT to these patients when admitted to the ICU.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of this review is to identify contemporary evidence evaluating enteral nutrition in patients with septic shock, outline risk factors for enteral feeding intolerance (EFI), describe the conundrum of initiating enteral nutrition in patients with septic shock, appraise current EFI definitions, and identify bedside monitors for guiding enteral nutrition therapy. RECENT FINDINGS: The NUTRIREA-2 and NUTRIREA-3 trial results have better informed the dose of enteral nutrition in critically ill patients with circulatory shock. In both trials, patients with predominant septic shock randomized to receive early standard-dose nutrition had more gastrointestinal complications. Compared to other contemporary RCTs that included patients with circulatory shock, patients in the NUTRIREA-2 and NUTRIREA-3 trials had higher bowel ischemia rates, were sicker, and received full-dose enteral nutrition while receiving high baseline dose of vasopressor. These findings suggest severity of illness, vasopressor dose, and enteral nutrition dose impact outcomes. SUMMARY: The provision of early enteral nutrition preserves gut barrier functions; however, these benefits are counterbalanced by potential complications of introducing luminal nutrients into a hypo-perfused gut, including bowel ischemia. Findings from the NUTRIREA2 and NUTRIREA-3 trials substantiate a 'less is more' enteral nutrition dose strategy during the early acute phase of critical illness. In the absence of bedside tools to guide the initiation and advancement of enteral nutrition in patients with septic shock, the benefit of introducing enteral nutrition on preserving gut barrier function must be weighed against the risk of harm by considering dose of vasopressor, dose of enteral nutrition, and severity of illness.

ABSTRACT

Zebrafish regenerate their fins which involves a component of cell plasticity. It is currently unclear how regenerate cells divide labor to allow for appropriate growth and patterning. Here, we studied lineage relationships of fluorescence-activated cell sorting-enriched epidermal, bone-forming (osteoblast), and (non-osteoblast) blastemal fin regenerate cells by single-cell RNA sequencing, lineage tracing, targeted osteoblast ablation, and electron microscopy. Most osteoblasts in the outgrowing regenerate derive from osterix+ osteoblasts, while mmp9+ cells reside at segment joints. Distal blastema cells contribute to distal osteoblast progenitors, suggesting compartmentalization of the regenerating appendage. Ablation of osterix+ osteoblasts impairs segment joint and bone matrix formation and decreases regenerate length which is partially compensated for by distal regenerate cells. Our study characterizes expression patterns and lineage relationships of rare fin regenerate cell populations, indicates inherent detection and compensation of impaired regeneration, suggests variable dependence on growth factor signaling, and demonstrates zonation of the elongating fin regenerate.

Background: Very high-power short-duration (vHP-SD) radiofrequency (RF) ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment by pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) aims for safer, more effective and faster procedures. Although acute efficacy and safety for PVI was recently shown data on chronic PVI durability is limited. Here chronic PVI durability was evaluated during repeat electrophysiological procedures in patients after initial vHP-SD and conventional RF based PVI. Methods: A total of 25 consecutive patients with repeat left atrial procedures after initial vHP-SD based PVI were included in this study. Twenty-five patients with previous conventional RF based PVI and repeat left atrial procedures served as control (control group). Results: For index procedures the median RF time was 328 (277, 392) seconds (vHP-SD) and 1470 (1310, 1742) seconds (control); p < 0.001, the median procedure time was 55 (53, 68) minutes (vHP-SD) and 110 (94, 119) (control); p < 0.001). First pass isolation rate was 84 % (vHP-SD) and 88 % (control, p = 0.888). No differences for severe adverse events (vHP-SD: 1/25, 4 % vs. control: 0/25, 0 %; p = 0.676 were detected.Chronic durability of all PVs was assessed in vHP-SD: 16/25 (64 %) and control: 8/25 (32 %) patients (p = 0.023) and vHP-SD: 81 % and control: 62 % of PVs were found to be isolated (p = 0.003). For right PVs vHP-SD: 84 % vs. control: 60 % of PVs (p < 0.001) and for left PVs vHP-SD: 78 % vs. control: 64 % (p = 0.123) were found to be isolated. Conclusions: PVI solely utilizing vHP-SD via a very close-protocol provides fast, safe and effective acute PVI. High rates of chronically isolated pulmonary veins have been detected.

Introducción: El síndrome de Balint es un trastorno neurológico infrecuente, de etiología diversa, cuya presentación incluye la triada clásica de: simultagnosia, ataxia óptica y apraxia oculomotora, síntomas secundarios asociados a lesiones parieto-occipitales, con pronóstico variable según la etiología que se encuentre. A continuación, se reporta un caso secundario a una trombosis de senos venosos. Presentación del caso: Mujer de 66 años que ingresa a urgencias por cefalea aguda asociada a síntomas neurológicos progresivos con compromiso visual. Presentó tensión arterial elevada, simultagnosia, ataxia óptica y apraxia oculomotora. Los estudios imagenológicos reportaron hemorragia subaracnoidea por trombosis de seno sigmoideo izquierdo, por lo que se inició anticoagulación, antihipertensivo, con adecuada evolución del cuadro clínico. Discusión: A pesar de que el síndrome de Balint es un trastorno poco común, de etiología diversa, con escasos reportes a escala global, el caso comentado concordó con las características descritas en la literatura. El abordaje de la paciente en su atención inicial permitió la sospecha diagnóstica oportuna y la indicación de ayudas diagnósticas imagenológicas pertinentes. Tales ayudas soportaron un manejo temprano y la adecuada evolución y resolución del cuadro, en el contexto de la asociación del síndrome a una trombosis de senos venosos cerebrales (una etiología infrecuente). Conclusión: Mediante una historia clínica completa y minuciosa, junto a un adecuado examen neurológico, es posible hacer un acercamiento diagnóstico temprano que permita generar la sospecha del síndrome de Balint y la solicitud temprana de imágenes diagnósticas que orienten en el estudio de su etiología y manejo oportuno, con mejores desenlaces en el paciente.


Introduction: Balint Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder with multiple etiologies. The physical signs include a classic triad (simultagnosia, optic ataxia, and oculomotor apraxia). These symptoms are associated with parieto-occipital lesions, and the prognosis depends on the etiology. This article reports a case secondary to venous sinus thrombosis. Presentation of the case: A 66-year-old woman presented to the emergency room with acute headache associated with progressive neurological symptoms and visual impairment. She had high blood pressure, simultanagnosia, optic ataxia, and oculomotor apraxia. Imaging studies revealed subarachnoid hemorrhage due to thrombosis of the left sigmoid sinus, for which anticoagulation and antihypertensive therapy were started. The patient had a favorable clinical outcome. Discussion: Although Balint syndrome is a rare disorder of diverse etiology with few clinical cases reported globally, the case discussed here was consistent with the characteristics described in the literature. The patient's initial assessment allowed for timely diagnostic suspicion and appropriate imaging studies, which supported early management and the appropriate evolution and resolution of the condition, given the association of the syndrome with an uncommon cause as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. Conclusion: A complete and thorough medical history, along with a proper neurological exam, can lead to an early diagnostic approach that raises suspicion of Balint's syndrome and prompts timely imaging studies to guide the investigation of its etiology and management, ultimately leading to better outcomes for the patient.

BACKGROUND: Parenteral nutrition (PN) is needed to avoid the development of malnutrition when enteral nutrition (EN) is not possible. Our main aim was to assess the current use, complications, and nutrition delivery associated with PN administration in adult critically ill patients, especially when used early and as the initial route. We also assessed the differences between patients who received only PN and those in whom EN was initiated after PN (PN-EN). METHODS: A multicenter (n = 37) prospective observational study was performed. Patient clinical characteristics, outcomes, and nutrition-related variables were recorded. Statistical differences between subgroups were analyzed accordingly. RESULTS: From the entire population (n = 629), 186 (29.6%) patients received PN as initial nutrition therapy. Of these, 74 patients (11.7%) also received EN during their ICU stay (i.e., PN-EN subgroup). PN was administered early (<48 h) in the majority of patients (75.3%; n = 140) and the mean caloric (19.94 ± 6.72 Kcal/kg/day) and protein (1.01 ± 0.41 g/kg/day) delivery was similar to other contemporary studies. PN showed similar nutritional delivery when compared with the enteral route. No significant complications were associated with the use of PN. Thirty-two patients (43.3%) presented with EN-related complications in the PN-EN subgroup but received a higher mean protein delivery (0.95 ± 0.43 vs 1.17 ± 0.36 g/kg/day; p = 0.03) compared with PN alone. Once adjusted for confounding factors, patients who received PN alone had a lower mean protein intake (hazard ratio (HR): 0.29; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.18-0.47; p = 0.001), shorter ICU stay (HR: 0.96; 95% CI: 0.91-0.99; p = 0.008), and fewer days on mechanical ventilation (HR: 0.85; 95% CI: 0.81-0.89; p = 0.001) compared with the PN-EN subgroup. CONCLUSION: The parenteral route may be safe, even when administered early, and may provide adequate nutrition delivery. Additional EN, when possible, may optimize protein requirements, especially in more severe patients who received initial PN and are expected to have longer ICU stays. NCT Registry: 03634943.

In this study, different lightweight expanded glass aggregates (LEGAs) were produced from glass cullet and various carbonated wastes, through a thermal impact process. The effects of LEGA microstructure and morphology on both the adherence to the cement paste and the mechanical properties of mortars after 28 days of curing were studied. The properties of lightweight mortars made of either LEGAs or expanded clay aggregates were compared. The results demonstrated the feasibility of using LEGAs to produce glass lightweight aggregate mortar, with flexural and compressive strength values ranging from 5.5 to 8.2 MPa and from 28.1 to 47.6 MPa, respectively. The differences in mechanical properties were explained according to the microstructures of the fracture surfaces. Thus, arlite-type ceramic aggregates presented surface porosities that allowed mortar intrusion and the formation of an interconnected interface; although the surfaces of the vitreous aggregates were free from porosity due to their vitreous nature, the mortars obtained from different wastes presented compressive and flexural strengths in the range of lightweight mortars.

Background and aims: Despite enteral nutrition (EN) is the preferred route of nutrition in patients with critical illness, EN is not always able to provide optimal nutrient provision and parenteral nutrition (PN) is needed. This is strongly associated with gastrointestinal (GI) complications, a feature of gastrointestinal dysfunction and disease severity. The aim of the present study was to investigate factors associated with the need of PN after start of EN, together with the use and complications associated with EN. Methods: Adult patients admitted to 38 Spanish intensive care units (ICUs) between April and July 2018, who needed EN therapy were included in a prospective observational study. The characteristics of EN-treated patients and those who required PN after start EN were analyzed (i.e., clinical, laboratory and scores). Results: Of a total of 443 patients, 43 (9.7%) received PN. One-third (29.3%) of patients presented GI complications, which were more frequent among those needing PN (26% vs. 60%, p = 0.001). No differences regarding mean energy and protein delivery were found between patients treated only with EN (n = 400) and those needing supplementary or total PN (n = 43). Abnormalities in lipid profile, blood proteins, and inflammatory markers, such as C-Reactive Protein, were shown in those patients needing PN. Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) on ICU admission (Hazard ratio [HR]:1.161, 95% confidence interval [CI]:1.053-1.281, p = 0.003) and modified Nutrition Risk in Critically Ill (mNUTRIC) score (HR:1.311, 95% CI:1.098-1.565, p = 0.003) were higher among those who needed PN. In the multivariate analysis, higher SOFA score (HR:1.221, 95% CI:1.057-1.410, p = 0.007) and higher triglyceride levels on ICU admission (HR:1.004, 95% CI:1.001-1.007, p = 0.003) were associated with an increased risk for the need of PN, whereas higher albumin levels on ICU admission (HR:0.424, 95% CI:0.210-0.687, p = 0.016) was associated with lower need of PN. Conclusion: A higher SOFA and nutrition-related laboratory parameters on ICU admission may be associated with the need of PN after starting EN therapy. This may be related with a higher occurrence of GI complications, a feature of GI dysfunction. Clinical trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03634943.

ABSTRACT

As a treatment for various immune-mediated diseases, the use of glucocorticoids as anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agents is common practice. However, their use is severely hampered by the risk of the development of adverse effects such as secondary osteoporosis, skin atrophy, and peptic ulcer formation. The exact molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying those adverse effects, which involve most major organ systems, are not yet fully understood. Therefore, their investigation is of great importance to improve treatment regimens for patients. Here, we investigated the effects of the glucocorticoid prednisolone on cell proliferation and Wnt signaling in homeostatic skin and intestinal tissue and compared them to the anti-regenerative effects in zebrafish fin regeneration. We also investigated a potential recovery from the glucocorticoid treatment and the impact of short-term treatment with prednisolone. We identified a dampening effect of prednisolone on Wnt signaling and proliferation in highly proliferative tissues, namely the skin and intestine, as well as reduced fin regenerate length and Wnt reporter activity in the fin. The presence of the Wnt inhibitor Dickkopf1 was enhanced in prednisolone treated skin tissue. A decreased number of mucous producing goblet cells was observed in the intestine of prednisolone treated zebrafish. Unexpectedly, proliferation in bone forming osteoblasts of the skull, homeostatic scales, as well as the brain was not decreased, opposite to the observed effects in the skin, fin, and intestine. Short-term treatment with prednisolone for a few days did not significantly alter fin regenerate length, skin cell proliferation, intestinal leukocyte number and proliferation of intestinal crypt cells. However, it affected the number of mucous-producing goblet cells in the gut. Likewise, discontinuation of prednisolone treatment for a few days saved the skin and intestine from a significant reduction of skin and intestinal cell proliferation, intestinal leukocyte number and regenerate length, but did not rescue goblet cell number. The suppressive effects of glucocorticoids in highly proliferative tissues may be relevant in the context of their therapeutic applications in patients with inflammatory diseases.

ABSTRACT

A new adsorbent based on an immobilized waste-derived LTA zeolite in agarose (AG) has proven to be an innovative and efficient alternative for removing metallic contaminants from water impacted by acid mine drainage (AMD) because the immobilization prevents the solubilization of the zeolite in acidic media and eases its separation from the adsorbed solution. A pilot device was developed containing slices of the sorbent material [AG (1.5%)-LTA (8%)] to be used in a treatment system under an upward continuous flow. High removals of Fe2+ (93.45%), Mn2+ (91.62%), and Al3+ (96.56%) were achieved, thus transforming river water heavily contaminated by metallic ions into water suitable for non-potable use for these parameters, according to Brazilian and/or FAO standards. Breakthrough curves were constructed and the corresponding maximum adsorption capacities (mg/g) (Fe2+, 17.42; Mn2+, 1.38; Al3+, 15.20) calculated from them. Thomas mathematical model was well fitted to the experimental data, indicating the participation of an ion-exchange mechanism in the removal of the metallic ions. The pilot-scale process studied, in addition to being highly efficient in removing metal ions at toxic levels in AMD-impacted water, is linked to the sustainability and circular economy concepts, due to the use as an adsorbent of a synthetic zeolite derived from a hazardous aluminum waste.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for innovative approaches to its diagnosis. Here we present CoVradar, a novel and simple colorimetric method that combines nucleic acid analysis with dynamic chemical labeling (DCL) technology and the Spin-Tube device to detect SARS-CoV-2 RNA in saliva samples. The assay includes a fragmentation step to increase the number of RNA templates for analysis, using abasic peptide nucleic acid probes (DGL probes) immobilized to nylon membranes in a specific dot pattern to capture RNA fragments. Duplexes are formed by labeling complementary RNA fragments with biotinylated SMART bases, which act as templates for DCL. Signals are generated by recognizing biotin with streptavidin alkaline phosphatase and incubating with a chromogenic substrate to produce a blue precipitate. CoVradar results are analysed by CoVreader, a smartphone-based image processing system that can display and interpret the blotch pattern. CoVradar and CoVreader provide a unique molecular assay capable of detecting SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA without the need for extraction, preamplification, or pre-labeling steps, offering advantages in terms of time (∼3 h/test), cost (∼€1/test manufacturing cost) and simplicity (does not require large equipment). This solution is also promising for developing assays for other infectious diseases.

ABSTRACT

A recurring feature of oceanic archipelagos is the presence of adaptive radiations that generate endemic, species-rich clades that can offer outstanding insight into the links between ecology and evolution. Recent developments in evolutionary genomics have contributed towards solving long-standing questions at this interface. Using a comprehensive literature search, we identify studies spanning 19 oceanic archipelagos and 110 putative adaptive radiations, but find that most of these radiations have not yet been investigated from an evolutionary genomics perspective. Our review reveals different gaps in knowledge related to the lack of implementation of genomic approaches, as well as undersampled taxonomic and geographic areas. Filling those gaps with the required data will help to deepen our understanding of adaptation, speciation, and other evolutionary processes.

ABSTRACT

Strongyloides stercoralis infection is generally asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, but in the immunosuppressed host, it is associated with more severe and complicated forms with a worse prognosis. S. stercoralis seroprevalence was studied in 256 patients before receiving immunosuppressive treatment (before kidney transplantation or starting biological treatments). As a control group, serum bank data of 642 individuals representative of the population of the Canary Islands were retrospectively analyzed. To avoid false positives due to cross-reactivity with other similar helminth antigens present in the study area, IgG antibodies to Toxocara spp. and Echinococcus spp. were evaluated in cases positive for Strongyloides. The data show this is a prevalent infection: 1.1% of the Canarian population, 2.38% of Canarian individuals awaiting organ transplants and 4.8% of individuals about to start biological agents. On the other hand, strongyloidiasis can remain asymptomatic (as observed in our study population). There are no indirect data, such as country of origin or eosinophilia, to help raise suspicion of the disease. In summary, our study suggests that screening for S. stercoralis infection should be performed in patients who receive immunosuppressive treatment for solid organ transplantation or biological agents, in line with previous publications.
