ABSTRACT

Objective:To systematic review the efficacy and safety of external application of traditional Chinese medicine on treatment of breast cancer related lymphedema. Methods:CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, Sino-Med, The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science were searched for related randomized controlled trials, the retrieval time was from inception to May 25, 2020. Two researchers independently screened and evaluated the included studies. Meta-analysis was performed by RevMan 5.4 software. Results:A total of 16 studies involving 1 315 patients with breast cancer related lymphedema were included, and the methodological quality of the included studies was not high. Compared with conventional treatment, external application of traditional Chinese medicine combined with conventional treatment had advantages in improving the total efficiency( P<0.01) and quality of life( P<0.01), reducing pain( P<0.01) and improving upper limb function( P<0.01), without obvious adverse reactions( P>0.05), but there was no improvement in depression( P>0.05). Compared with conventional treatment, external application of traditional Chinese medicine could improve the total efficiency( P<0.01). Compared with placebo sticker combined with conventional treatment, external application of traditional Chinese medicine combined with conventional treatment can reduce circumference( P<0.05) and reduce pain( P<0.01), without obvious adverse reactions( P>0.05). Conclusions:Available evidence suggests that external application of traditional Chinese medicine may be a potential treatment method for breast cancer related lymphedema. Due to the poor methodological quality of the included studies, high-quality randomized controlled trials are still needed.

ABSTRACT

Ferroptosis is a recently recognized form of regulated cell death caused by an iron-dependent accumulation of lipid reactive species. However, little research on ferroptosis and lung cancer, one of the most common tumors, has been carried out. This paper tries to review the research progress of ferroptotic suppression and explain it from the different ways of ferroptosis occurrence. Furthermore, as inducing ferroptosis to treat cancer gets more attention, we introduce four kinds of ferroptosis-inducing compounds and new prospects for lung cancer therapy to provide new ideas for lung cancer treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the molecular basis of the characteristics of the serum auto-fluorescent spectrum in patients with ovarian cancer and the changes that might be induced by surgery. Methods Using fluorospectrophotometer and 300nm excitation light, the serum auto-fluorescent spectrum of 84 patients with ovarian cancer before and after the surgery and 30 healthy people were detected. Meanwhile, the serum tumor signs (CEA, CA199 and CA125), hemoglobin and plasma albumin level of all patients with ovarian cancer were detected. Their correlation with the fluorescence spectral characteristic parameters were analyzed. Results Compared with healthy people, the serum auto-fluorescent spectrum in patients with ovarian cancer exhibited purple-shifted position of λ2 peak and red shift in λ4 peak, had higher peak extent inλ1, λ2, λ4 and λ6 peak, and larger peak area of λ1, λ2, λ3, λ4 and λ6. Compared with those in ovarian cancer patients before surgery, the serum auto-fluorescent spectrum in these patients after operation had red shifts in λ1, λ2 and λ3 peak, lower peak extent in λ1, λ2, λ3 and λ4, and smaller peak area in λ1, λ2, λ3,λ4 and λ6 peak. In ovarian cancer patients, the serum level of CEA was positively correlated with the λ2 peak extent and the peak area of λ2 and λ3, while the serum level of CA125 was positively correlated with the peak extent of λ1-λ4 and λ6 and the peak area of λ1-λ3. The serum level of CA199 was negatively correlated with the λ2 position and positively correlated with the peak extent of λ1-λ6 and the peak area ofλ1-λ3 and λ6 in patents with ovarian cancer. Besides, the serum albumin was positively correlated with theλ2 peak position and negatively with the peak extent of λ1-λ6 and the λ1-λ3 peak area, while the level of hemoglobin was positively correlated with λ1 peak position. Conclusions The elevated serum tumor markers and lower albumin (plasma) level lead to the changes of the serum autofluorescence spectra characteristic parametersin in patients with ovarian cancer. These changes can be modestly corrected by surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objectives To investigate the mutational characteristics of MSX1 and PAX9 genes in a family affected by non-syndromic oligodonti so as to study the pathogenesis of oligodontia from a molecular prospective. Methods A family with oligodontia, but of different descent and unrelated healthy controls were enrolled in our study. Genomic DNA was isolated from the blood samples. Mutation analyses were performed by amplifying MSX1 and PAX9 exons and sequencing the products. Results DNA sequencing revealed a novel missense mutation c.348C>T in a highly conserved homeobox sequence of MSX1 and a known polymorphisms c. 469+35- c.469+45del in exon 1 and in intron in the two patients and in two unrelated healthy controls. But we did not detect any mutation in PAX9. Conclusion Our finding suggests the samesense mutation (c.348C>T) and the polymorphisms (c.469+35- c.469+45del) may be responsible for oligodontia phenotype in this Chinese family.

ABSTRACT

Botryococcus braunii is a unique colonial green microalga and a great potential renewable resource of liquid fuel because of its ability to produce lipids. Due to the dense cell colonies and rigidly thick cell wall of B. braunii, the traditional Nile red method is usually of low sensitivity and bad repeatability and hard for the determination of lipid content in the cells. By dispersing the colony with ultrasonic, assisting permeation of Nile red across the cell wall with dimethyl sulfoxide and optimizing the staining conditions, we established an improved detection method. The details were as follows: after the colonial algal sample was treated by ultrasonic at 20 kHz for 20 s, 100 W transmitting power and with 1 s on/1 s off intermittent cycle, the equivoluminal 15% (V/V) dimethyl sulfoxide and 3 microg/mL Nile red were successively added and mixed evenly, then the staining system was incubated in dark at 40 degrees C for 10 min, and subsequently was measured by fluorescence spectroscopy detection with an excitation wavelength of 490 nm. Compared with the traditional method, the improved one not only had higher detection sensitivity which was increased by 196.6%, but also had obviously better detection repeatability whose characteristic parameter - relative standard deviation (RSD) was decreased from 10.91% to 1.84%. Therefore, the improved method could provide a rapid and sensitive detection of lipid content for B. braunii breeding and cultivation.
