ABSTRACT

In Spain, the introduction of the Open Dialogue framework is relatively recent. This study takes a closer look at Open Dialogue training, interest and research in this region. To this end, a survey has been conducted through a convenience sample of professionals, people with their own experiences in mental health, family members, relatives, university professors and students. The results showed that a significant number of participants had no training in OD, and their exposure to relevant literature and congress attendance was limited. Amongst the different profiles, professionals reported the highest level of training. These findings highlight the urgent need for further research and training initiatives to improve the understanding and application of the OD framework in Spain. Efforts should be directed towards broadening the knowledge base, increasing access to training programmes and fostering interest amongst different stakeholders. By addressing these gaps, the implementation and use of OD can be expanded to meet the growing demand and interest in this approach in the Spanish context.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: We describe the experience of a multi-family group, directed at young people affected by their first psychotic crisis and their social networks, in a real clinical environment within the Spanish national health system, based on the Open Dialogue philosophy, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: three families and three mental health professionals took part in the study. Instruments: SCORE-15, SWLS, CSQ-8 and a list of themes that appear in the dialogues. Results: both the five subjects and the facilitators perceive an improvement in the level of family functioning and the usefulness of the therapy; only one of the subjects reports an improvement in the level of life satisfaction at the end of the group; we observe high satisfaction on the part of the participants with the care received in the group. Discussion: the strength of this study is its ecological validity. The results obtained, and the synergies developed in the multifamily meetings described here, demonstrate that different methods more aligned with the principles of Open Dialogues are now possible with the resources available in our clinical context (AU)

ABSTRACT

It is described a multifamily group that has been ongoing in L'Hospitalet Llobregat since 2012. A group that handles both persons diagnosed with severe mental disorders and their families, with a general goal to improve their health and quality of their lives. It is about facilitating the communication in order to work on the rational and bonding aspects. It is intended to offer a space where it is possible to reflect together the experiences lived within their own family. SCORE is a tool which turned out to be useful for analysis of the changes in family therapy. We are studying its applicability in the context of multifamily group therapy. It is being researched if the assistants and therapists observe the changes in the family function over the series of sessions in the multifamily group. It is an observational study in the context of public assistance. New participants of a multifamily group are invited to participate between January and July 2017. SCORE is applied on 3 occasions: before starting their introduction to the group, after 3 sessions and in the last session. Based on the obtained results, we evaluate SCORE- 15 as a useful tool to include persons who participate a multifamily group in a therapeutic process which further permits us have at our disposal a register of the produced changes at the level of family function
