JOURNAL/nrgr/04.03/01300535-202503000-00032/figure1/v/2024-06-17T092413Z/r/image-tiff Salsolinol (1-methyl-6,7-dihydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline, Sal) is a catechol isoquinoline that causes neurotoxicity and shares structural similarity with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine, an environmental toxin that causes Parkinson's disease. However, the mechanism by which Sal mediates dopaminergic neuronal death remains unclear. In this study, we found that Sal significantly enhanced the global level of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA methylation in PC12 cells, mainly by inducing the downregulation of the expression of m6A demethylases fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) and alkB homolog 5 (ALKBH5). RNA sequencing analysis showed that Sal downregulated the Hippo signaling pathway. The m6A reader YTH domain-containing family protein 2 (YTHDF2) promoted the degradation of m6A-containing Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) mRNA, which is a downstream key effector in the Hippo signaling pathway. Additionally, downregulation of YAP1 promoted autophagy, indicating that the mutual regulation between YAP1 and autophagy can lead to neurotoxicity. These findings reveal the role of Sal on m6A RNA methylation and suggest that Sal may act as an RNA methylation inducer mediating dopaminergic neuronal death through YAP1 and autophagy. Our results provide greater insights into the neurotoxic effects of catechol isoquinolines compared with other studies and may be a reference for assessing the involvement of RNA methylation in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease.

To investigate the associations between isocarbophos and isofenphos with impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and to assess the mediation roles of inflammation cells. There were 2701 participants in the case-control study, including 896 patients with T2DM, 900 patients with IFG, 905 subjects with NGT. Plasma isocarbophos and isofenphos concentrations were measured using gas chromatography and triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry. Generalized linear models were used to calculate the relationships between plasma isofenphos and isocarbophos levels with inflammatory factor levels and T2DM. Inflammatory cell was used as mediators to estimate the mediating effects on the above associations. Isocarbophos and isofenphos were positively related with T2DM after adjusting for other factors. The odds ratio (95% confidence interval) (OR (95%CI)) for T2DM was 1.041 (1.015, 1.068) and for IFG was 1.066 (1.009, 1.127) per unit rise in ln-isocarbophos. The prevalence of T2DM increased by 6.4% for every 1 unit more of ln-isofenphos (OR (95% CI): 1.064 (1.041, 1.087)). Additionally, a 100% rise in ln-isocarbophos was linked to 3.3% higher ln-HOMA2IR and a 0.029 mmol/L higher glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) (95% CI: 0.007, 0.051). While a 100% rise in ln-isofenphos was linked to increase in ln-HOMA2 and ln-HOMA2IR of 5.8% and 3.4%, respectively. Furthermore, white blood cell (WBC) and neutrophilic (NE) were found to be mediators in the relationship between isocarbophos and T2DM, and the corresponding proportions were 17.12% and 17.67%, respectively. Isofenphos and isocarbophos are associated with IFG and T2DM in the rural Chinese population, WBC and NE have a significant role in this relationship.

The response of microbiomes to salinity has been clarified in different geographic scales or ecosystems. However, how soil microbial community structure and interaction respond to salinity across wide salinity range and climatic region is still unclearly resolved. To address this issue, we examined the microbial community's composition in saline soils from two climatic regions (coastal wetland and arid desert). Our research confirms that soil salinity had a negative effect on soil nutrient content. Salinity decreased the relative abundance of bacteria, but increased archaea abundance, leading to the shifts from bacteria dominant community to archaea dominant community. Low-water medium-salinity soil (LWMS) had the most complex archaeal community network, whereas for bacteria, the most complex bacterial community network was observed in low-water high-salinity soils (LWHS). Key microbial taxa differed in three salinity gradients. Salinity, soil water content, pH, total nitrogen (TN), and soil organic carbon (SOC) were the main driving factors for the composition of archaeal and bacterial community. Salinity directly affected archaeal community, but indirectly influenced bacteria community through SOC; pH affected archaeal community indirectly through TN, but directly affected bacterial community. Our study suggests that soil salinity dramatically influences diversity, composition, and interactions within the microbial community.

High-entropy perovskite oxides are promising materials in the field of electrocatalysis due to their advantages such as large spatial composition regulation, entropy effects, and tunable material properties. However, the preparation of high-entropy perovskite oxides with stable and controllable structures still remains challenging. Herein, we fabricated a series of high-entropy perovskite oxide porous nanotubes (PNTs) by electrospinning as efficient electrocatalysts for the nitrate reduction reaction (NO3RR). We further revealed that the different diffusion and decomposition behaviors of metal ions and polymers during the calcination process are the key to the formation of high-entropy perovskite oxide PNTs. Especially, LaSrNiCoMnFeCuO3 PNTs show excellent performance of the NO3RR, achieving the maximum NH3 Faradaic efficiency of almost 100%, yield rate of 1657.5 µg h-1 mgcat.-1, and durable stability after successive cycling, being one of the best electrocatalysts for the NO3RR. The mechanism studies show that the charge redistribution induced by the multisite synergistic effect and abundant unsaturated sites in the high-entropy perovskite oxide PNTs favors the adsorption of NO3- and key intermediates and reduces the catalytic energy barrier, thus further achieving high NO3- conversion efficiency.

Melatonin (Mel) is recognized as a prominent plant growth regulator. This study investigated the alleviating effect of Mel pretreatment on growth inhibition caused by low-temperature (LT) stress (10 °C/6 °C) in cucumber seedlings and explored the role of the Ca2+/Calcium-dependent protein kinases (CPKs) signaling pathway in Mel-regulated LT tolerance. The main results are as follows: compared to LT treatment alone, 100 µM Mel increased both the content of Ca2+ (highest about 42.01%) and the expression levels of Ca2+ transporter and cyclic nucleotide-gated channel (CNGC) genes under LT. Similarly, Mel enhanced the content of CPKs (highest about 27.49%) and the expression levels of CPKs family genes in cucumber leaves under LT. Additionally, pretreatment with 100 µM Mel for three days strengthened the antioxidant defense and photosynthesis of seedlings under LT. Genes in the ICE-CBF-COR pathway and the MAPK cascade were upregulated by Mel, with maximum upregulations reaching approximately 2.5-fold and 1.9-fold, respectively, thus conferring LT tolerance to cucumber seedlings. However, the above beneficial effects of Mel were weakened by co-treatment with calcium signaling blockers (LaCl3 or EGTA) or CPKs inhibitors (TFP or W-7), suggesting that the Ca2+/CPKs pathway is involved in the Mel-mediated regulation of LT tolerance. In conclusion, this study revealed that Mel can alleviate growth inhibition in cucumber seedlings under LT stress and demonstrated that the Ca2+/CPKs signaling pathway is crucial for the Mel-mediated enhancement of LT tolerance. The findings hold promise for providing theoretical insights into the application of Mel in agricultural production and for investigating its underlying mechanisms of action.

The Eaf6 protein, a conserved component of the NuA4 and NuA3 complexes in yeast and MOZ/MORF complexes in humans, plays crucial roles in transcriptional activation, gene regulation, and cell cycle control. Despite its significance in other organisms, the functional role of Eaf6 in entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) remained unexplored. Here, we investigate the function of BbEaf6, the Eaf6 homolog in the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana. We demonstrate that BbEaf6 is predominantly localized in nuclei, similar to its counterpart in other fungi. Deletion of BbEaf6 resulted in delayed conidiation, reduced conidial yield, and altered conidial properties. Transcriptomic analysis revealed dysregulation of genes involved in asexual development and cell cycle progression in the ΔBbEaf6 mutant. Furthermore, the ΔBbEaf6 mutant exhibited decreased tolerance to various stresses, including ionic stress, cell wall perturbation, and DNA damage stress. Notably, the ΔBbEaf6 mutant displayed attenuated virulence in insect bioassays, accompanied by dysregulation of genes associated with cuticle penetration and haemocoel infection. Overall, our study elucidates the multifaceted role of BbEaf6 in stress response, development, and virulence in B. bassiana, providing valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms governing fungal pathogenesis and potential targets for pest management strategies.

Hepatic subcapsular hematoma (HSH) is an uncommon complication of pregnancy and is associated with elevated rates of maternal and foetal mortality. The rupture of an HSH is a critical situation that necessitates immediate and timely intervention to prevent loss of life. We present here, a case of a spontaneously ruptured massive HSH caused by preeclampsia. In addition, we conducted a comprehensive review of existing literature, encompassing 49 cases of HSH associated with pregnancy. If a pregnant woman with gestational hypertension experiences right upper abdominal pain with shoulder pain or radiating shoulder pain, it is crucial for her to have an urgent abdominal ultrasound because of the potential development of HSH and/or rupture. Our review of current literature suggests that opting for a caesarean section may offer notable advantages in preventing HSH rupture.

BACKGROUND: Gynecomastia is a progressive disease characterized by enlarged breasts, affecting a significant proportion of men. Persistent gynecomastia negatively affects the psychological and emotional development of patients; therefore, surgical intervention is required. In this article, we describe a surgical technique, where liposuction through an axillary incision is used in combination with a single small periareolar incision, to obtain the most minimal scars in the treatment of gynecomastia. METHODS: Between June 2021 and June 2023, 125 patients with different Simon grades of gynecomastia were enrolled. The patients' basic conditions and operation processes were recorded. Following surgery, a score was assigned according to the five main aesthetic aspects of the surgical procedure. RESULTS: In total, 125 patients with gynecomastia were treated with a pre-axillary fold incision combined with a small areolar incision. There were 17 cases of Simon grade I, 46 grade IIA, 42 grade IIB, and 20 grade III. The average operation time was 45.8 min, the average liposuction volume was 250.5 mL, the average glandular tissue volume was 50.5 g, intraoperative blood loss ranged from 15 to 60 mL, and the average hospital stay was 3.2 days. Regarding the postoperative aesthetic effect, doctors scored > 4 points, and the patient satisfaction score was > 7.5, which fully affirmed the aesthetic effect of this method. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of gynecomastia through an anterior axillary fold incision combined with a small areolar incision is safe and feasible, involving a simple procedure, short operation time, and few complications. Its efficacy and cosmetic effects could lead to its use as a primary surgical method to treat gynecomastia. BACKGROUND: This study employed a phenomenological research approach within qualitative research to explore the challenges encountered by elderly individuals with temporary colostomies in managing their daily lives and care needs. Protecting the anus surgery combined with temporary colostomy has emerged as a prevalent treatment modality for low rectal cancer. However, the ileostomy is susceptible to peri-stoma skin complications, as well as fluid, electrolyte, and nutritional imbalances, posing challenges to effective management. The successful self-management of patients is intricately linked to their adjustment to temporary colostomy; nonetheless, there remains a dearth of research examining the factors influencing self-care among temporary colostomy patients and the obstacles they confront. AIM: To investigate the lived experiences, perceptions, and care requirements of temporary colostomy patients within their home environment, with the ultimate goal of formulating a standardized management protocol. METHODS: Over the period of June to August 2023, a purposive sampling technique was utilized to select 12 patients with temporary intestinal stomas from a tertiary hospital in Shanghai, China. Employing a phenomenological research approach, a semi-structured interview guide was developed, and qualitative interviews were conducted using in-depth interview techniques. The acquired data underwent coding, analysis, organization, and summarization following Colaizzi's seven-step method. RESULTS: The findings of this study revealed that the experiences and needs of patients with temporary intestinal stomas can be delineated into four principal themes: Firstly, Temporary colostomy patients bear various burdens and concerns about the uncertainty of disease progression; secondly, patients exhibit limited self-care capabilities and face information deficits, resulting in heightened reliance on healthcare professionals; thirdly, patients demonstrate the potential for internal motivation through proactive self-adjustment; and finally, patients express a significant need for emotional and social support. CONCLUSION: Home-living patients with temporary intestinal stomas confront multifaceted challenges encompassing burdens, inadequate self-care abilities, informational deficits, and emotional needs. Identifying factors influencing patients' self-care at home and proposing strategies to mitigate barriers can serve as a foundational framework for developing and implementing nursing interventions tailored to the needs of patients with temporary intestinal stomas.

Stem cell therapy for intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) has been widely used in clinical treatment. However, intravenous injection lacks sufficient targeting capabilities, while in situ injection poses challenges in ensuring the effective survival of stem cells. Furthermore, the mechanism underlying the interaction between stem cells and endometrial cells in vivo remains poorly understood, and there is a lack of suitable in vitro models for studying these problems. Here, we designed an extracellular matrix (ECM)-adhesion mimic hydrogel for intrauterine administration, which was more effective than direct injection in treating IUAs. Additionally, we analyzed the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and confirmed that the activation of endometrial epithelial stem cells is pivotal. Our findings demonstrated that umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) secrete WNT7A to activate endometrial epithelial stem cells, thereby accelerating regeneration of the endometrial epithelium. Concurrently, under transforming growth factor alpha (TGFA) stimulation secreted by the EMT epithelium, UC-MSCs upregulate E-cadherin while partially implanting into the endometrial epithelium.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas plays a significant role in biological regulation. With advancements in technology, H2S has been discovered across diverse fields, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of its physiological functions through monitoring changes in H2S within complex environments and physiological processes. In this study, we designed a phosphofluorene-based conjugate probe PPF-CDNB with an asymmetric π-conjugated phosphine structure and utilized dinitrophenyl ether as the recognition site for H2S. PPF-CDNB exhibited exceptional resistance to interference and demonstrated stability over a broad pH range (3.0-10.0), making it suitable for various environmental conditions. Intracellular experiments revealed that PPF-CDNB effectively monitored both endogenous and exogenous levels of H2S.

Chemotherapy is still the main therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer (GC). However, most patients eventually acquire multidrug resistance (MDR). Hyperactivation of the EGFR signaling pathway contributes to MDR by promoting cancer cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis. We previously identified the secreted protein CGA as a novel ligand of EGFR and revealed a CGA/EGFR/GATA2 positive feedback circuit that confers MDR in GC. Herein, we outline a microRNA-based treatment approach for MDR reversal that targets both CGA and GATA2. We observed increased expression of CGA and GATA2 and increased activation of EGFR in GC samples. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that miR-107 could simultaneously target CGA and GATA2, and the low expression of miR-107 was correlated with poor prognosis in GC patients. The direct interactions between miR-107 and CGA or GATA2 were validated by luciferase reporter assays and western blot analysis. Overexpression of miR-107 in MDR GC cells increased their susceptibility to chemotherapeutic agents, including fluorouracil, adriamycin and vincristine, in vitro. Notably, intratumor injection of the miR-107 prodrug enhanced MDR xenograft sensitivity to chemotherapies in vivo. Molecularly, targeting CGA and GATA2 with miR-107 inhibited EGFR downstream signaling, as evidenced by the reduced phosphorylation of ERK and AKT. These results suggest that miR-107 may contribute to the development of a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of MDR in GC.

INTRODUCTION: Subjective well-being, an important index for measuring mental health, is presently declining among junior high school students. Envy, one of their common emotions, is inextricably linked to subjective well-being. Based on the Dual Envy Theory, our research explores the bidirectional relationship between benign-malicious envy and subjective well-being. The mediating role of self-esteem, as well as the related gender differences, is examined. METHODS: Chinese middle school students (n = 1566, boys 50.3%, age = 13.96 ± 0.88 years old) were assessed at two time points over a 3-month interval. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the longitudinal relationships among the variables. RESULTS: (1) Cross-lagged analysis showed a positive bidirectional relationship between benign envy and subjective well-being and a negative bidirectional relationship between malicious envy and subjective well-being in the total sample. However, the path from T1 subjective well-being to T2 malicious envy in boys was not significant. (2) Self-esteem mediated the relationship between both benign and malicious envy and subjective well-being among both boys and girls. A Wald chi-square test showed that T2 self-esteem was a stronger predictor of T2 benign envy in boys than in girls. CONCLUSION: The results reveal a virtuous cycle of benign envy and subjective well-being, and a vicious cycle of malicious envy and subjective well-being, while emphasizing the role of self-esteem in this process. Gender differences were also noted. These findings have important implications for improving the subjective well-being of secondary school students and exploring the positive effects of envy.

BACKGROUND: The optimal duration for surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) for preventing surgical site infection (SSI) in orthopaedic surgeries remains poorly supported by high-level evidence. This study aimed to assess the association between SAP duration and the occurrence of SSI within one year postoperatively. METHODS: This prospective cohort study was based on the database from Surgical Site Infection Surveillance and Improvement Project (SISIP) of a tertiary orthopaedic university hospital from October 2014 to December 2020. The main outcome was SSI, defined according to the CDC/NHSN criteria, determined by review of index hospitalization medical records, microbiology laboratory reports, and readmission records for SSI treatment within one-year after discharge. Adjusted Generalized additive models (GAMs) were performed to assess the relationships between SAP duration and SSI, determined the cut-off point of SAP duration, and estimate the relative contribution of each included variable, across the overall cohort and the three subgroups (open fracture, closed fracture, and non-traumatic group). Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the association between prolonging SAP duration based on the cut-off point and SSI. RESULTS: There were 37,046 patients (55.1% male) included, with the overall SSI incidence of 2.35% (871/37,046). In adjusted GAMs, no statistically significant relationships were observed in overall cohort and open or closed group (P>0.05), but a nonlinear relationship was exhibited non-traumatic group (P=0.03); the cut-off point were 2.4 days for overall cohort and 3.6 days (open), 2.6 days (closed), 1.1 days (non-trauma) for three subgroups. In adjusted logistic regression, prolonging SAP duration did not demonstrate a statistically significant protective effect in overall cohort (aOR=0.868; 95% CI, 0.746-1.011) and three groups (open: aOR=0.867; 95% CI, 0.668-1.124; closed: aOR=0.925; 95% CI, 0.754-1.135; non-trauma: aOR=1.184; 95% CI, 0.832-1.683). The relative contribution ranks of SAP duration were 21st overall among 34 factors, 14th for open fractures, 28th for closed fractures, and 3rd for non-traumatic group among 33 factors. CONCLUSION: Prolonged postoperative SAP duration has no protective effect against SSI in orthopaedic surgery. Our findings support current guidelines against the practice of continuing SAP postoperatively.

This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of eltrombopag plus diacerein vs. eltrombopag alone in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who were previously unresponsive to 14 days of eltrombopag treatment at the full dose. Recruited patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive either eltrombopag plus diacerein (n=50) or eltrombopag monotherapy (n=52). Overall response rate, defined as a platelet count at or above 30×109/L, at least doubling of the baseline platelet count, and no bleeding, was reached in 44% of patients in the eltrombopag plus diacerein group compared with 13% in the eltrombopag group at day 15 (P = .0009), and reached in 42% of patients in the combination group compared with 12% in the monotherapy group at day 28 (P = .0006). The addition of diacerein to eltrombopag also led to a longer duration of response (P = .0004). The two most common treatment-emergent adverse events were respiratory infection and gastrointestinal reactions in the combination group, and fatigue and respiratory infection in the eltrombopag group. In conclusion, eltrombopag plus diacerein was well tolerated, and induced higher overall response rates and longer duration of response than eltrombopag alone, offering a rejuvenating salvage therapy for ITP patients unresponsive to 14 days of full dosage eltrombopag. Our work has the potential to enhance the care of patients treated with thrombopoietin receptor agonists, reducing the need for rapid transitions to less-preferable therapies. BiOCl is a promising photocatalyst, but due to its weak visible light absorption capacity and low photogenerated electron-hole pair separation rate, its practical application is limited to a certain extent. In this study, a novel double Z-scheme heterojunction UiO-66-NH2/BiOCl/Bi2S3 catalyst was constructed to broaden the visible light response range and promote high photogenerated hole-electron separation of BiOCl. Its photocatalytic performance is evaluated by dissociating tetracycline (TC) and rhodamine B (RhB) in visible light. The optimal proportion of UiO-66-NH2/BiOCl/Bi2S3 hybrids exhibits the best degradation efficiency of visible light illumination (∼93% in 120 min for TC and ∼98% in 60 min for RhB). The synergistic effect of a large visible light response range and the Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism ensure the excellent visible photocatalytic activity of UiO-66-NH2/BiOCl/Bi2S3. It is proven that h+ and •O2- are the main active substances in the photocatalysis process by active substance capture experiments and electron spin resonance tests. The intermediates and degradation processes are analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. This study proves that the new UiO-66-NH2/BiOCl/Bi2S3 photocatalyst has great application potential in the field of water pollution degradation and will provide a new idea for the optimization of BiOCl.

This study explores the molecular clusters of cyclopentene (CPE) with one to three CO2 molecules (CPE-(CO2)1-3) through their jet-cooled rotational spectra using Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy with supplementary quantum chemical calculations. The assembly of CPE-(CO2)1-3 clusters is predominantly driven by tetrel bonding networks, notably C···π(C═C) and C···O interactions, with additional stabilization from weak C─H(CH2)···C═O hydrogen bonds. Critically, the dispersive forces play a pivotal role in stabilizing CO2 aggregation on CPE, eclipsing the effects of electrostatic and orbital interactions. This highlights the complex balance of forces that govern the formation and stabilization of these molecular clusters. Our findings offer precise insights into noncovalent interactions that could enhance atmospheric chemistry models and sustain climate science through informed environmental chemistry strategies.

Numerous scientific studies have found a link between diverse microorganisms in the human body and complex human diseases. Because traditional experimental approaches are time-consuming and expensive, using computational methods to identify microbes correlated with diseases is critical. In this paper, a new microbe-disease association prediction model is proposed that combines a multi-view multi-modal network and a multi-scale feature fusion mechanism, called M3HOGAT. Firstly, a microbe-disease association network and multiple similarity views are constructed based on multi-source information. Then, consider that neighbor information from disparate orders might be more adept at learning node representations. Consequently, the higher-order graph attention network (HOGAT) is devised to aggregate neighbor information from disparate orders to extract microbe and disease features from different networks and views. Given that the embedding features of microbe and disease from different views possess varying importance, a multi-scale feature fusion mechanism is employed to learn their interaction information, thereby generating the final feature of microbes and diseases. Finally, an inner product decoder is used to reconstruct the microbe-disease association matrix. Compared with five state-of-the-art methods on the HMDAD and Disbiome datasets, the results of 5-fold cross-validations show that M3HOGAT achieves the best performance. Furthermore, case studies on asthma and obesity confirm the effectiveness of M3HOGAT in identifying potential disease-related microbes.

BACKGROUND: Anti-contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CASPR2) antibody encephalitis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the presence of antibodies against the voltage-gated potassium channel. This leads to neurological symptoms, such as seizures, cognitive decline, and neuropathic pain, primarily affecting the limbic system. The prognosis of this disorder varies among individuals. CASE SUMMARY: The patient, a girl aged nine years and nine months, underwent treatment for 14 to 21 d. The main clinical manifestations were vomiting and unclear consciousness, positive pathological signs, normal cranial computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, and abnormal electroencephalogram. The child was discharged after receiving immunoglobulin and hormone treatment. Subsequent follow-up over a period of 15 months after discharge, conducted through telephone and outpatient visits, showed no recurrence of symptoms. CONCLUSION: Anti-CASPR2 antibody autoimmune encephalitis in children is rare, mainly manifested as convulsions, mental abnormalities, cognitive impairment, and neuropathic pain, among others. Timely evaluation for autoimmune encephalitis antibodies is crucial, especially in cases of recurrent central nervous system involvement in children.

Three rice varieties underwent the field natural extreme high temperature (EHT) with daily average temperature over 30 °C from 21 to 89 days after sowing, and had transparent, chalky and floury grains. The structures, gelatinization properties and enzyme hydrolyses of starches from transparent and floury grains were investigated. Compared with control transparent grains, floury grains subjected to EHT markedly decreased the contents of amylose molecules, amylopectin A chains and amylopectin B1 chains and increased the contents of amylopectin B2 and B3+ chains and the average branch-chain length of amylopectin. Both transparent and floury grains had A-type starches, but floury grain starches exhibited higher relative crystallinity, gelatinization temperature, retrogradation and pasting viscosities than transparent grain starches. Floury grain starches had lower hydrolysis rates than transparent grain starches. Native starches were more resistant to digestion but gelatinized and retrograded starches were more prone to digestion in floury grains than in transparent grains.
