RESUMO

Information exchange and communication through the Internet are one of the most crucial aspects of today's information technology world. The security of information transmitted online has grown to be a critical concern, particularly in the transfer of medical data. To overcome this, the data must be delivered securely without being altered or lost. This can be possibly done by combining the principles of cryptography and steganography. In the recent past, steganography is used with simpler methods like the least significant bit manipulation technique, in order to encode a lower-resolution image into a higher-resolution image. Here, we attempt to use deep neural networks to combine many two-dimensional colour images of the same resolution into a single cover image with the same resolution. In this technique, many secret images are concealed inside a single cover image using deep neural networks. The embedded cover image is then encrypted using a 3D chaotic map for diffusion and elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) for confusion to increase security.Supporting the fact that neural networks experience losses, the proposed system recovers up to 93% of the hidden image concealed in the original image. As the secret image features are identified and combined along with the cover image, the time complexity involved in the security process is minimized by 78% compared to securing the original data.

RESUMO

Introduction: Impression making is one such important clinical step, which is critical in the accurate fitting of resulting prostheses. Impression making itself depends on the type of material and the impression technique used to record the details. Various combinations of material and the technique have been described in the literature. Aim: To evaluate the effect of three different impression techniques on the marginal fit of computer-aided designed/computer-aided manufactured (CAD/CAM) single unit composite fixed dental prostheses (FDP), different consistencies of addition silicone impression material and different tray design were utilized. Method: Impression of prepared tooth on typodont was made using Matrix impression system, two-step putty wash technique, and individual tooth tray technique. Prosthesis was fabricated using CAD/CAM technology and marginal accuracy was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Result: In the present study, the matrix impression system resulted in less microgap in both mid-buccal and mid-mesial region, whereas putty wash technique showed very high standard deviation in the interproximal region. Conclusion: Matrix impression system had the best results at both mid-buccal and mid-mesial position with least marginal discrepancy. Clinical Implication: The findings of this study could be used by clinicians to help them choose the viscosity of polyvinylsiloxane material and impression techniques for FDP that will result in high-accuracy impressions and well-fitting prostheses.

RESUMO

Aim and objective: To assess the systematic reviews and meta-analyses investigating the dental caries experience in children with cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P). Study design and methodology: A systematic search was carried out from MEDLINE Via PubMed, JBI Database of Systematic Reviews and Implementation Reports, EMBASE, OVID, Cochrane Database of Systematic Review, and Epistemonikos databases. Two independent reviewers carried out the collection and analysis of the study data. Methodological quality was assessed by ROBIS (Risk of bias assessment in systematic review) tool. Review results: An initial search of electronic databases yielded a total of 25 relevant reviews, of which only three systematic reviews were taken into consideration for qualitative synthesis. The total number of unique primary studies among the three included systematic reviews were 25, of which overlap of the studies was calculated using citation matrix. The corrected covered area (CCA) was estimated to be 0.26. Based on the ROBIS tool, only one systematic review reported with low risk of bias. Conclusion: Individuals with CL/P report more decayed, missing, or filled teeth/surfaces than those without CL/P in primary, mixed, and permanent dentition. Future studies should focus on the factors which could modify the caries risk of an individual with CL/P. Clinical significance: This umbrella review offers a more reliable and balanced view regarding the dental caries experience among individuals with cleft lip and/or palate. This paper also highlights the important role of pediatric dentist in multidisciplinary health care team in implementing first dental visit and anticipatory guidance to consider early diagnosis and specific preventive interventions for Early Childhood Caries (ECC) in individuals with CL/P. RESUMO

BackgroundWe estimated vaccine effectiveness (VE) of mRNA vaccines among US Veterans during periods of Delta and Omicron variant dominance. Patients included in this study were largely 65 years or older (62,834, 55%), male (101,259, 88%), and non-Hispanic white (66,986, 58%). MethodsWe used SARS-CoV-2 laboratory test results to conduct a matched test-negative case-control study to estimate VE of three and two doses of mRNA vaccines against infection (regardless of symptoms), and a matched case-control study to estimate VE against COVID-19-related hospitalization and death. We estimated VE as (1-odds ratio) x 100%. Severity of disease was measured using hospital length of stay (LOS) and admission to an intensive care unit (ICU). ResultsAgainst infection, booster doses had 7-times higher VE - 59% (95% confidence interval [CI], 57 to 61) - than 2-dose VE (7%; 95% CI, 3 to 10) during the Omicron period. For the Delta period, estimated VE against infection was 90% (95% CI, 88 to 92) among boosted vaccinees, 64% higher than VE among 2-dose vaccinees [55% (95% CI, 51 to 58)]. Against hospitalization, booster dose VE was 87% (95% CI, 80 to 91) during Omicron and 95% (95% CI, 91 to 97) during Delta; the 2-dose VE was 44% (95% CI, 26 to 58) during Omicron and 75% (95% CI, 70 to 80) during Delta. Against death, estimated VE with a booster dose was 94% (95% CI, 85 to 98) during Omicron and 96% (95% CI, 88 to 99) during Delta, while the 2-dose VE was 75% (95% CI, 52 to 87) during Omicron and 93% (95% CI, 85 to 97) during Delta. During the Omicron period, average hospital LOS was 4 days shorter [3 days (95%CI, 3 to 4 days)] than during the Delta period. ConclusionsA mRNA vaccine booster is more effective against infection, hospitalization, and death than 2-dose vaccination among an older male population with comorbidities.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Glanzmann thrombasthenia is a rare bleeding disorder due to defects in the glycoprotein Ilb/IIIa complex present on the platelet membrane. The most common mode of treatment for this disorder is platelet transfusion. However, scientific evidence does state that repeated transfusions could lead to auto immunization making transfusions ineffective. AIM AND OBJECTIVE: To describe the use of a novel technique of soft splint with tranexamic acid paste to stop oral bleeding in a patient with Glanzmann thrombasthenia (GT). CASE DESCRIPTION: A 7-year-old female patient with a known history of GT was referred to the pediatric department. The chief complaint of the patient revealed a history of spontaneous bleeding from the oral cavity. The patient required multiple teeth extractions due to severely carious teeth. History revealed that the patient was admitted to the hospital (casualty) three times within 1 month due to a similar complaint leading to hypovolemic shock. Several transfusion procedures were done to stop the spontaneous bleeding. To stop the intraoral bleeding without transfusions, a novel method of using a soft splint with tranexamic acid paste (500 mg tablet crushed and mixed with saline) in the area of spontaneous bleeding was employed with a successful follow-up of 7 months. CONCLUSION: Soft splint with the tranexamic acid paste can serve as an effective method of treatment for patients with spontaneous oral bleeding due to medical conditions like GT. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This case report highlights the need for awareness among all the healthcare providers about the importance of regular dental visits. The healthcare providers also need to emphasize the same to all patients with medical conditions to avoid such life-threatening situations. RESUMO

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are storage granules found in bacteria that are essentially hydroxy fatty acid polyesters. PHA molecules appear in variety of structures, and amongst all types of PHAs, polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is used in versatile fields as it is a biodegradable, biocompatible, and ecologically safe thermoplastic. The unique physicochemical characteristics of these PHAs have made them applicable in nanotechnology, tissue engineering, and other biomedical applications. In this review, the optimization, extraction, and characterization of PHAs are described. Their production and application in nanotechnology are also portrayed in this review, and the precise and various production methods of PHA-based nanoparticles, such as emulsion solvent diffusion, nanoprecipitation, and dialysis are discussed. The characterization techniques such as UV-Vis, FTIR, SEM, Zeta Potential, and XRD are also elaborated.

RESUMO

Latex, a milky substance found in a variety of plants which is a natural source of biologically active compounds. In this study, Latex was collected from raw Carica papaya and was characterized using UV-Vis, FTIR and GC-MS analyses. Super Paramagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) were synthesized, coated with C. papaya latex (PL-Sp) and characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR, SEM-EDX, XRD, VSM and Zeta potential analyses. SPIONs and latex coated SPIONs (PL-Sp) were used in batch adsorption study for effective removal of Methylene blue (MB) dye, where (PL-Sp) removed MB dye effectively. Further the PL-Sp was used to produce a nanoconjugate loaded with curcumin and it was characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FT-IR, SEM-EDX, XRD, VSM and Zeta potential. It showed a sustained drug release pattern and also found to have good antibacterial and anticancer activity.

RESUMO

Density functional theory has been employed to model the structure and the relative stabilities of alpha/beta-alanine conformers and their protonated and alkali metal cationized complexes. In general, we find that the behavior of the beta-alanine (beta-Ala) system is quite similar to that of alpha-alanine (alpha-Ala). However, the presence of the methylene group (-CH2-) at the beta position in beta-Ala leads to a few key differences. First, the intramolecular hydrogen bonding patterns are different between free alpha- and beta-Ala. Second, the stability of zwitterionic species (in either the free ligand or alkali metal cationized complexes) is often enhanced in beta-Ala. Third, the preferred mode of alkali metal cation (M+) binding may also differ in alpha- and beta-Ala. Natural energy decomposition analysis has been applied here to gain further insight into the effects of the ligand, cation size, and mode of binding on the nature of interaction in these M+-Ala complexes.
