RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the uterus and myomatous nodules by ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging in different periods after uterine artery embolization (UAE). MATERIAL AND METHODS: UAE was performed in 632 patients with different forms of uterine myoma. With this aim in mind, 120 cases with different forms of uterine myoma were analyzed. RESULTS: Following 1, 3, 6, and 12 months, the reduction in myomatous nodules was estimated to be 18.4 and 17.3, 40.7 and 42.9, 60.4 and 61.8 and 72.5 and 74.7%, respectively (p < 0.05). Necrotic exposure of a nodule, expulsion of myomatous nodules, and removal of a partially nascent submucous nodule were observed in 18 (15%) patients. Laparoscopic myomectomy of subserous myomatous nodules was carried out in 12 (10%) cases after UAE. In doing this, interoperative blood loss was 50-80 ml. CONCLUSION: UAE is an organ-sparing, highly effective uterine myoma treatment performed alone or in combination with surgery in relation to its different forms.

RESUMO

A trial has been performed of anti-intoxication properties of the stuff Arman containing fruit and vegetable fibers in Cr toxicosis. It is demonstrated that 30-day Arman feeding resulted in rats in Cr content fall in the blood and rise in the urine and feces. The protective effect of Arman was confirmed by changes in the body mass, morphological investigations of the liver tissue and by general condition of the animals. The product exhibited antioxidant properties. It is suggested that a marked antitoxic effect of Arman in Cr intoxication may be due to accelerated elimination of Cr compounds from the animal body.

RESUMO

The effects of low doses of intraperitoneally injected alpha- and gamma-tocopherols dispersed in isotonic solutions of NaCl and of liposomal gamma-tocopherol on endogenous lipid peroxidation and the cytochrome P-450 system of vitamin E-deficient rats were compared. It was found that all tocopherol preparations under study caused a twofold decrease of the lipid Schiff base concentration in the liver in comparison with tocopherol-deficient rats. However, the increase in cytochrome P-450 and b5 levels and the high functional activity of the microsomal oxidation system in the benz(a)pyrene hydroxylation reaction was induced only after liposomal gamma-tocopherol injection. It was concluded that the efficiency of the liposomal form of gamma-tocopherol can be conditioned both by preventing gamma-tocopherol oxidation in lecithin vesicles during its transport and/or by an increased liposomal gamma-tocopherol uptake by the liver from the circulating blood.

RESUMO

The authors studied the influence of the diet enriched with phosphatidylcholine on the structural-functional parameters of microsomes: lipid peroxidation activity, the levels of cytochromes b5 and P-450, microviscosity of the lipid phase of the membrane. In experiments in vivo it was found that phosphatidylcholine per se, not combined with antioxidants, did not show antioxidant properties. Biological effects of lecithin could be explained by its role as a catalyst of the monooxygenase system in the liver, based on the correlation (r = +0.8) between the high level of cytochrome b5 and the degree of eximerization of the fluorescent probe pyrene in the microsomes.
