RESUMO

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effects of happiness training on the psychological well-being of thalassaemia major (TM) patients. TM is a chronic haematological disease that can have profound effects on patients' mental health and psychological well-being. Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a pre/post-test design was performed on 52 patients with TM attending the thalassaemia care centre of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Zabol city, Iran, from August to December 2020. The patients were randomly categorised into experimental and control groups. In the experimental group, happiness training was performed in eight sessions, each for 60 minutes. The control group received routine care. The data collection tool employed was the Ryff's Scale of Psychological Well-Being. Data were analysed by SPSS 16 using descriptive (mean ± standard deviation) and inferential (paired and independent t-test) statistics. Results: Regarding the psychological well-being score at the pre-test stage, there was no statistically significant difference between the intervention (74.92 ± 6.36) and control (74.57 ± 5.83) groups (P = 0.83). After the intervention, however, a statistically significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of psychological well-being (P <0.001). Additionally, a statistically significant difference was seen one comparing the psychological well-being score between the pre- and post-intervention phases in the experimental (P = 0.01) but not control (P = 0.12) group. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that happiness training improved TM patients' psychological well-being. Therefore, this type of training can be used as an appropriate educational strategy to improve the psychological well-being in these patients.

RESUMO

Fully integrated monolithic, multi-channel InP-based coherent receiver PICs and transceiver modules with extended C-band tunability are described. These PICs operate at 33 and 44 Gbaud per channel under dual polarization (DP) 16-QAM modulation. Fourteen-channel monolithic InP receiver PICs show integration and data rate scaling capability to operate at 44 Gbaud under DP 16-QAM modulation for combined 4.9 Tb/s total capacity. Six channel simultaneous operation of a commercial transceiver module at 33 Gbaud is demonstrated for a variety of modulation formats including DP 16-QAM for >1.2Tbit/s aggregate data capacity.

RESUMO

We demonstrate experimentally that spontaneous parametric down-conversion in an AlxGa(1-x)As semiconductor Bragg reflection waveguide can make for paired photons highly entangled in the polarization degree of freedom at the telecommunication wavelength of 1550 nm. The pairs of photons show visibility higher than 90% in several polarization bases and violate a Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt Bell-like inequality by more than 3 standard deviations. This represents a significant step toward the realization of efficient and versatile self pumped sources of entangled photon pairs on-chip.

RESUMO

An on-chip waveguide-based source of entangled photons capable of switching between generating time-energy entangled and hyperentangled (entangled in both time energy and polarization) photon pairs is proposed. The switching can be done all-optically by rotating the pump polarization. The source is based on multichannel phase matching in Bragg reflection waveguides achieved by engineering the Fresnel reflection of photonic bandgap claddings for differently polarized modes. Analytical results are confirmed in fully vectorial numerical simulations.

RESUMO

We report what is believed to be the first observation of second-harmonic generation by type I phase matching the bulk chi(xyz)((2))(d(14)) nonlinear coefficient using Bragg reflection waveguides. Second-harmonic power of 0.7 microW was observed for a pump wavelength of 1587.8 nm with an average power of 25.2 mW and a pulse width of approximately 2 ps at a repetition rate of 75.6 MHz. An order of magnitude enhancement between the phase-matched and un-phase-matched second-harmonic conversion efficiency has been observed. Conversion efficiency at the phase-matched wavelengths was 0.001%. The bandwidth of the second harmonic was found to be equal to 0.43 nm, agreeing with the theoretical predictions.
