RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The questionnaire survey of different age groups using partial and full removable dentures to assess the operational properties and effectiveness of the use of specialized adhesives for removable dentures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study comprised 228 patients (70 men and 158 women, in the age groups 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 and over 65 years). All of them had previously used partial or full removable dentures, and they applied again to replace the denture or appeared for a follow-up examination. RESULTS: At the time of the survey, 130 (57%) of the respondents used specialized adhesive agents for prostheses fixing. Among those 130 patients, 75.3% of patients noted that they use «Corega¼, cream that indirectly indicates its good consumer characteristics; other compositions: Blend-a-Dent, President, Protefix - were named by 2.2%, 4.6% and 17.9% of respondents, respectively. The largest number of respondents - 124 (95.3%) - noted an improvement in the chewing function, improved speech was indicated by 64 (49.2%) patients, a decrease in food accumulation under the prosthesis by 92 (71%) patients. In general, 66 (50.8%) respondents using specialized fixing agents stated the improvement in the quality of life. CONCLUSION: The results of the research indicate the need for receiving feedback from patients, and this is an objective criterion that allows us to evaluate not only the characteristics of the product declared by the manufacturer, but also the orthopedic dentist's work on information the patients about the modern treatment approach to partial and full teeth loss management.

RESUMO

The research shows force-separation relation between layer thickness of Corega adhesive denture cream applied on lower jaw's models and denture basis itself. Four high strength die stone models with different wax isolation layers (0 mm; 0.3 mm; 0.5 mm; 1 mm) were prepared for further production of acrylic denture. Isolation thicknesses were verified by measuring light body c-silicone thickness, applied under each basis. Humidity and temperature of oral cavity were imitated during experiments. Mandible acrylic model with applied cream and denture was mounted on a tripod. A plastic 5-liter bottle was rigidly attached to denture basis with nylon straps. While experiment, bottle was filling with water until denture disassemble from jaw model. Results show that separation force increases with decreasing cream's thickness.

RESUMO

The article presents the results of planning and comprehensive treatment of a patient with class III malocclusion complicated by partial teeth absence. Split osteotomy of the mandible improved the relationship of dental arches facilitating complete oral restorative rehabilitation with adequate functional load distribution and esthetic harmony.

RESUMO

We used DNA fingerprinting with M13 phage DNA as a probe to estimate the degree of genomic variability and genetic relationships in a heterogeneous group of 13 populations from Eastern Europe and Siberia. The popultaions belong to three language families: Indo-European (Slavonic: Russians, Byelorussians), Uralic (Finno-Ugric: Maris, Mordvinians, Udmurts), and Altaic (Turkic: Bashkirs, Tatars, Chuvashes, Yakuts). Multivariate statistical analyses were used (multidimensional scaling, cluster, and multiple correspondence analyses), and coefficients of gene differentiation ( Gst') were evaluated. The level of interpopulation subdivision in the various ethnic groups appeared to be different: the Byelorussian populations revealed no regional differences, in contrast to the Bashkir populations, which formed a heterogeneous group. The populations subdivided into three general clusters: Slavonic populations formed a separate tight cluster characterized by a minimal level of interpopulation diversity, Bashkir and Yakut populations formed the second cluster, and the Finno-Ugric and several populations of the Turkic linguistic groups formed the third cluster. The robustness of these results obtained by different statistical data treatments reveals that multilocus DNA fingerprinting can be reliably used for population studies.

RESUMO

A retrospective analysis of case histories of 923 patients with periodontal diseases was carried out in order to evaluate the structure and scope of therapeutic manipulations at different clinics. The results of analysis indicate that patients with periodontitis of medium severity aged 39-49 years most often consult the dentists; teenagers accounted for only 0.5% of all who consulted the dentists. Population analysis of 1773 patients of different age groups (15-18, 19-29, 20-49, and over 50 years) showed a direct relationship between the prevalence of periodontal diseases and age. Analysis of the structure of maxillodental abnormalities showed the predominance of deep occlusion (deep incisor overlapping) in patients of all ages; periodontal diseases most often develop in patients with this abnormality. The author suggests an order and structure of prevention of periodontal diseases.

RESUMO

Apolipoprotein B 3' (3' ApoB) minisatellite polymorphism was studied in healthy unrelated individuals from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, in 10 populations from five ethnic groups: Russians, Byelorussians, Adygeis, Kalmyks and Yakuts. The analysis was carried out using PCR and electrophoresis followed by silver staining. Overall, 25 alleles of the 3' ApoB minisatellite, ranging from 25 to 55 repeats, were detected. Heterozygosity indices were high and varied from 0.73 to 0.84. The distributions of alleles of this minisatellite in the Caucasoid populations (Russians, Byelorussians and Adygeis) had a bimodal character, whereas that for Mongoloid populations (Kalmyks and Yakuts) had a unimodal distribution. Nei's genetic distances between the populations studied and some reference populations of Europe and Asia were estimated. Despite their allele distribution homogeneity, different East Slavonic ethnic groups were clearly resolved by multidimensional analyses. The East Slavonic and Adygei populations revealed a high similarity with European Caucasoids. The Mongoloid populations (Kalmyks and Yakuts) were considerably different from those of the European Caucasoid populations, but were similar to other Asian Mongoloid populations. The results demonstrate the variability of 3' ApoB minisatellite polymorphism not only in distant populations but also, to a certain extent, in genetically relative ones.

RESUMO

Using multilocus DNA fingerprinting with phage M13 DNA as a probe, we have investigated a heterogeneous group of four human populations from Eastern Europe and Northeastern Asia. These populations belong to two language families: Indo-European (Eastern Slavonic branch: Russians, Belarussians) and Altaian (Turkic branch: Yakuts). The experimental results were treated by different statistical techniques: cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling, and multiple correspondence analysis. Coefficients of genetic differentiation were estimated using similarity indices and heterozygosities. The results of our study demonstrated similarity of Belarussian populations and significant differences between the group of Slavonic populations and Yakuts.

RESUMO

Combined treatment was studied of 169 patients with chronic generalised periodontitis in moderate or severe stages, including local pharmacological and laser therapy, selected teeth grinding, transdental implantation, splinting, immediate denture with preliminary collagen plastics of alveolar bone. Positive follow-up results confirmed by experimental data have been received.
