RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic palmoplantar hidradenitis is an uncommon neutrophilic dermatosis, occurring in children and young adults. Its pathogenesis is incompletely understood. It is characterized by spontaneous resolution, but it can relapse in 50% of cases. We describe a case of a child with atypical idiopathic hidradenitis remarkable for its impact on his motor development. OBSERVATION: A 3-year-old boy was admitted to the pediatric unit for etiological assessment of delayed walking. Medullary MRI and TSH were normal. He was referred to a dermatologic consultation for recurrent and painful palmoplantar lesions, giving an equinus antalgic posture. Examination found erythematous tender plantar nodules. The palms were not affected. The exam was otherwise normal. Diagnosis of idiopathic plantar hidradenitis, pressure urticaria, and plantar erythema nodosum were discussed, leading to a skin biopsy. The histopathologic findings of nodular, neutrophilic infiltrates around the eccrine glands confirmed the diagnosis of idiopathic plantar hidradenitis. Anti-inflammatory treatment was given, followed by complete resolution of the lesions, but persistent equinus posture. COMMENTS: Idiopathic palmoplantar hidradenitis is an uncommon neutrophilic dermatosis, distinct from neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis. It corresponds to neutrophilic infiltrates of the eccrine sweat glands. It is more frequently reported in children and young adults with no medical history. Its pathogenesis is not completely explained. The lesions are usually painful, hindering walking for a few days or even delaying it, as for our patient. These lesions typically involute, but they may recur in more than half of the cases. CONCLUSION: Through this observation, we highlight the atypical impact of idiopathic hidradenitis and the value of a dermatological examination in case of delayed walking.

RESUMO

Enhanced visualization of latent fingerprints on two non-porous surfaces, smooth glass slides and highly reflecting rough aluminum sheets, is obtained by depositing columnar thin films (CTFs) of calcium fluoride (CaF2) and silica (SiO2) by physical vapor deposition at large oblique angles. Due to the vapor flux getting shadowed by the physical residues in the fingerprints, the CTFs are deposited only on the upraised ridges, resulting in highly enhancing the visibility of the fingerprint. The visualization of these fingerprints with deposited CTFs is further enhanced by subsequently treating them with a fluorescent dye and fluorescence imaging. A specific amino-acid reagent (1,2-indanedione) and non-specific laser dye (Rhodamine 6G), both allowed enhanced visualization of the CTFs grown on the fingerprints, due to the localization and entrenchment of the dye within the CTF regions.

RESUMO

The reaction products of 1,2-indanedione (a new fluorescent fingerprint reagent) with glycine in methanol, at room temperature have been studied using excitation and emission and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC/MS) has also been used to determine which compounds are formed. Reaction products were identified using GC/MS as 2-carboxymethyliminoindanone (MW=203 g) and 1,2-di(carboxymethylimino)indane (MW=260 g). Identified compounds show room temperature fluorescence lifetimes of tau(1)=7.69 ns and tau(2)=1.27 ns. It is not clear yet which compound is having fluorescence lifetime of 7.69 ns and which one is showing 1.27 ns.

RESUMO

Neonatal and pediatric intensive care poses a major challenge in developing countries where the socio-economic level is low and health care resources are limited. Given the large size of the pediatric population as well as of great socio-cultural and symbolic importance of the child, there is a natural, compelling need for management of serious diseases in newborns and infants. The lack of timely disease prevention and treatment accounts in part for the frequency and severity of cases. Thus the status of intensive care units can exist in this setting is a pertinent question. The purpose of this study was to attempt to answer this question by surveying neonatal and pediatric care in developing countries based on experience in Morocco over the last 25 years.

RESUMO

Intoxication by Atractylis gummifera L. frequently happens in Morocco. It's often accidental and mortal if no precocious and effective treatment. In order to take stock of this intoxication of which diagnosis is clinical and treatment symptomatic, we suggest to analyze one clinical case of the intoxication by Atractylis gummifera L. on a 12 year old child who accidentally ingested this plant.

RESUMO

Pheochromocytoma is an uncommon tumour, young patients are involved. Diagnosis during pregnancy is scarcely made. Pheochromocytoma in pregnancy is a dramatic life threatening association for mother and foetus. High maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality can be reduced by a prompt diagnosis and treatment. We report two cases of pheochromocytoma associated with pregnancy, the prognosis of the first case was poor with stillbirth, the outcome was favourable in the second case for both mother and foetus. The authors emphasize the need of rapid diagnosis and treatment to improve outcome and the importance of perioperative management of these patients.

RESUMO

Luminescent lanthanide ions such as Eu3+ and Tb3+ show emission enhancement, when complexed with Ruhemann's Purples (RPs, reaction products of ninhydrin and ninhydrin analogs with amino acids) via intramolecular energy transfer from the RP ligands (good absorbers) to the ions Eu3+ and Tb+3 (efficient emitters). The authors present the optical spectroscopic features (absorption, excitation, and emission spectra) of the complexes formed with RPs and Tb. The emission lifetimes of these complexes are also addressed.
