Objetivo: conhecer as representações sociais sobre o planejamento reprodutivo entre mulheres em gravidez não planejada na Estratégia Saúde da Família. Método: estudo qualitativo, orientado pela Teoria das Representações Sociais, realizado com 15 gestantes, entre abril e maio de 2019. Utilizou-se a entrevista semiestruturada. Os dados foram organizados por meio do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo, com auxílio do software DSCsoft©. Protocolo de pesquisa aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa. Resultados: as representações sociais das mulheres em gravidez não planejada evidenciadas pelo Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo foram representadas por oito ideias centrais, a saber: "eu não me preveni, nem ele", "nós nos prevenimos", "eu comprava", "pegava no posto", "construir uma família", "ter esse acesso", "estou por fora" e "eu sei que é disponível". Conclusão: as representações sociais nos discursos das mulheres em gravidez não planejada estavam pautadas no desconhecimento acerca do planejamento reprodutivo, dos anticoncepcionais disponíveis e seu uso correto.
Objective: to understand the social representations of reproductive planning among women with unplanned pregnancies in the Family Health Strategy. Method: qualitative study, guided by the Theory of Social Representations, carried out with 15 pregnant women between April and May 2019. Semi-structured interviews were used. The data was organized using the Discourse of the Collective Subject, with the aid of DSCsoft© software. Research protocol approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: the social representations of women with unplanned pregnancies as evidenced by the Collective Subject Discourse were represented by eight central ideas, namely: "I didn't prevent myself, nor did he", "we prevented ourselves", "I would buy it", "I would get it at the health center", "build a family", "have this access", "I am not aware" and "I know it is available". Conclusion: the social representations in the women's speeches about unplanned pregnancies were based on a lack of knowledge about reproductive planning, the contraceptives available and their correct use.

Conclusión: las representaciones sociales en los discursos de las mujeres con embarazo no planificado se basaron en la falta de conocimiento sobre la planificación reproductiva, en los anticonceptivos disponibles y su uso correcto.

Objetivo: avaliar ansiedade, estresse e depressão antes e após o treinamento físico em acometidos pela Covid-19. Método: estudo quase-experimental realizado em Goiânia com pacientes que tiveram Covid-19 moderada a grave, após internação. Investigou-se ansiedade, estresse e depressão por meio da DASS-21. Os participantes realizaram dezoito sessões de treinamento físico, três vezes/semana composto por exercícios aeróbios, resistidos e de flexibilidade. Utilizou-se teste Shapiro Wilk para distribuição e os testes t pareado e Wilcoxon com nível de significância de p<0,05 para comparações. Resultado: participaram dezessete indivíduos com 55,59(±5,20) anos, predominantemente mulheres (64,7%), média de dezessete dias internados, maioria obesos (52,9%) com alguma doença prévia à Covid-19 (76,5%). Houve redução da ansiedade (mediana de 9,0 para 2,0 [p=0,001]), estresse de 10,0 para 2,0 (p=0,001) e depressão de 6,0 para 2,0 (p<0,001) após treinamento físico. Conclusão: o treinamento físico foi eficaz para melhora da ansiedade, estresse e depressão após dezoito sessões.
Objective: to assess anxiety, stress and depression before and after physical training in people affected by Covid-19. Method: a quasi-experimental study carried out in Goiania with patients who had moderate to severe Covid-19 after hospitalization. Anxiety, stress and depression were investigated using the DASS-21. The participants underwent eighteen physical training sessions, three times a week, consisting of aerobic, resistance and flexibility exercises. The Shapiro Wilk test was used for distribution and the paired t-test and Wilcoxon test with a significance level of p<0.05 were used for comparisons. Results: seventeen individuals took part, aged 55.59 (±5.20) years, predominantly women (64.7%), an average of seventeen days in hospital, the majority obese (52.9%) with some illness prior to Covid-19 (76.5%). There was a reduction in anxiety (median from 9.0 to 2.0 [p=0.001]), stress from 10.0 to 2.0 (p=0.001) and depression from 6.0 to 2.0 (p<0.001) after physical training. Conclusion: physical training was effective in improving anxiety, stress and depression after eighteen sessions.

Los participantes realizaron dieciocho sesiones de entrenamiento físico, tres veces por semana compuesto por ejercicios aeróbicos, de resistencia y de flexibilidad. Se utilizó la prueba Shapiro Wilk para distribución y las pruebas t pareada y Wilcoxon con nivel de significancia de p<0,05 para comparaciones. Resultado: participaron diecisiete individuos con 55,59 (±5,20) años, predominantemente mujeres (64,7%), media de diecisiete días hospitalizados, mayoría obesos (52,9%) con alguna enfermedad previa a la Covid-19 (76,5%). Hubo reducción de la ansiedad (mediana de 9,0 a 2,0 [p=0,001]), estrés de 10,0 a 2,0 (p=0,001) y depresión de 6,0 a 2,0 (p<0,001) tras el entrenamiento físico. Conclusión: el entrenamiento físico fue eficaz para mejorar la ansiedad, el estrés y la depresión después de dieciocho sesiones.

Objective: To evaluate early complications in prepectoral breast reconstruction. Methods: A retrospective cohort study including 180 consecutive cases of nipple-sparing mastectomy, comparing immediate breast reconstruction with subpectoral to prepectoral mammary implants in 2012-2022. Clinical and demographic characteristics and complications in the first three months following surgery were compared between the two techniques. Results: The prepectoral technique was used in 22 cases (12.2%) and the subpectoral in 158 (87.8%). Median age was higher in the prepectoral group (47 versus 43.8 years; p=0.038), as was body mass index (25.1 versus 23.8; p=0.002) and implant volume (447.5 versus 409 cc; p=0.001). The prepectoral technique was more associated with an inframammary fold (IMF) incision (19 cases, 86.4% versus 85, 53.8%) than with periareolar incisions (3 cases, 13.6% versus 73, 46.2%); (p=0.004). All cases in the prepectoral group underwent direct-to-implant reconstruction compared to 54 cases (34.2%) in the subpectoral group. Thirty-eight complications were recorded: 36 (22.8%) in the subpectoral group and 2 (9.1%) in the prepectoral group (p=0.24). Necrosis of the nipple-areola complex/skin flap occurred in 27 patients (17.1%) in the subpectoral group (prepectoral group: no cases; p=0.04). The groups were comparable regarding dehiscence, seroma, infection, and hematoma. Reconstruction failed in one case per group (p=0.230). In the multivariate analysis, IMF incision was associated with the prepectoral group (aOR: 34.72; 95%CI: 2.84-424.63). Conclusion: The incidence of early complications was comparable between the two techniques and compatible with previous reports. The clinical and demographic characteristics differed between the techniques. Randomized clinical trials are required.

The high-density porous polyethylene implants are used in chin and gonial angle augmentation surgeries. These implants are valued for their biocompatibility and ease of integration with tissues, particularly in correcting retrognathia and mandibular hypoplasia. The research aimed to detail the epidemiological profile, feasibility, outcomes, and complications associated with these procedures. METHODOLOGY: This retrospective observational study evaluated 100 patients over 18 years. Data on age, sex, aesthetic complaints, surgery types, and postoperative complications were collected and analyzed using the two-proportion z-test and descriptive statistics in RStudio 4.3.3. All patients with neuropraxia underwent neurosensory evaluation. RESULTS: The average age was 35.92 years for males and 33.71 years for females, with a male predominance (76%). Aesthetic complaints were prevalent in 72% of patients (p < 0.01). Chin surgery was performed on 56% of patients, jaw angle surgery on 17%, and both on 39%. Complications included one case of suture dehiscence, three wound infections, and four transient cases of paresthesia, all resolving within 30 days. Overall, patient satisfaction with outcomes was high. CONCLUSION: High-density porous polyethylene implants proved effective and safe in enhancing facial aesthetics and correcting mandibular deformities. Further research should focus on long-term outcomes to consolidate these findings. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE IV: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Purine nucleotides and nucleosides play critical roles in various pathological conditions, including tumor cell growth. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) activates pro-tumor receptors, while adenosine (ADO) is a potent immunosuppressant and modulator of cell growth. This study aims to analyze the purinergic actions of ATP and its metabolites, associated enzymes, and P1 or P2 class receptors in primary central nervous system tumors. Additionally, we sought to correlate the levels of nucleosides and the density of P1, P2X, and P2Y receptors in cells with tumor progression. The results indicate that purinergic signaling depends on the receptor concentration and signaling molecules specific to each cell type, tissue, and tumor histology. The purinergic system may function as either a tumor-promoting agent or an antitumor factor, depending on the microenvironmental conditions and the concentrations of receptors and their respective activators. Notably, ATP emerges as the most significant extracellular signal, capable of being converted into other cellular stimulators pertinent to neoplasms, such as adenosine diphosphate, adenosine monophosphate, adenosine, and inosine. Consequently, a cascade of responses to these stimuli promotes tumor development, cell division, and metastasis. Purine nucleotides in central nervous system tumors are pivotal in cellular responses in glioblastoma multiforme, vestibular schwannoma, medulloblastoma, adenomas, gliomas, meningiomas, and pineal tumors. These findings hold the potential for developing novel therapeutic strategies and aiding in therapeutic management.

BACKGROUND: As the migratory flow to the USA has intensified in recent months, health problems associated have been identified. The aim of this work was the identification of malaria cases imported into Mexican territory. METHODS: Operational definitions of suspected and confirmed cases were used for investigation of malaria cases. Detection of parasitic entities by thick blood smear and molecular biology served as a confirmatory test. With the characteristics of the cases, a heat map was made to determine common clinical pictures. Finally, epidemiological analysis of cases was performed for the construction of timelines of imported malaria and the tracing of migratory routes. RESULTS: Twelve migrants from four countries were treated for presenting clinical symptoms with suspected dengue or malaria. Malaria was confirmed and two Plasmodium species were identified. From the epidemiological dates of arrival in Mexico, onset of symptoms and migratory routes, we speculate that ten cases acquired P. vivax during their crossing through Honduras, El Salvador or Guatemala. For the Guinea cases, we conclude that there was African importation of P. falciparum. CONCLUSION: The epidemiological panorama of malaria cases imported into Mexico show the need to join efforts to ensure universal access to health services, with the objective of timely detection of imported cases.

Antibiotic combination therapy is a promising approach to address the urgent need for novel treatment options for infections caused by carbapenem-polymyxin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CPR-Kp). The present study aimed to investigate the synergistic potential of four cephalosporins in combination with polymyxin B (PMB). A checkerboard assay was performed to evaluate the synergistic effects of cephalexin (CLX), cefixime, cefotaxime (CTX), and cefmenoxime (CMX) in combination with PMB. Subsequently, experiments evaluating the use of CTX or CMX in combination with PMB (CTX-PMB or CMX-PMB, respectively), including growth curve and SynergyFinder analysis, antibiofilm activity assays, cell membrane integrity assays, and scanning electron microscopy, were performed. Safety assessments were also conducted, including hemolysis and toxicity evaluations, using Caenorhabditis elegans. Furthermore, an in vivo model in C. elegans was adopted to assess the treatment efficacy against CPR-Kp infections. CTX-PMB and CMX-PMB exhibited low fractional inhibitory concentration indexes ranging from 0.19 to 0.50 and from 0.25 to 1.5, respectively, and zero interaction potency scores of 37.484 and 15.076, respectively. The two combinations significantly reduced growth and biofilm formation in CPR-Kp. Neither CTX-PMB nor CMX-PMB compromised bacterial cell integrity. Safety assessments revealed a low hemolysis percentage and high survival rates in the C. elegans toxicity evaluations. The in vivo model revealed that the CTX-PMB and CMX-PMB treatments improved the survival rates of C. elegans. The synergistic effects of the CTX-PMB and CMX-PMB combinations, both in vitro and in vivo, indicate that these antibiotic pairings could represent effective therapeutic options for infections caused by CPR-Kp.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Microbial translocation contributes to cirrhosis progression and complications. This study aims to investigate whether molecules related to intestinal permeability or microbial translocation can serve as prognostic biomarkers in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We prospectively evaluated hospitalized patients with decompensated cirrhosis for liver function, complications during hospitalization, in-hospital mortality, composite outcomes of in-hospital mortality and complications, 12-month mortality, and survival rates. Blood samples were collected upon admission, and 1,3 beta-d-glucan, zonulin, calprotectin, and lipopolysaccharide-binding protein were measured using commercial kits. RESULTS: Ninety-one patients with decompensated cirrhosis were enrolled. The mean age was 58 ± 12 years; 57% were male. The three main cirrhosis etiologies were hepatitis C (35%), alcohol (25%), and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (17%). In terms of liver function, 52% were Child C, and 68% had model for end-stage liver disease ≥15. The in-hospital and one-year mortality rates were 31% and 57%, respectively. Child-Pugh, 1,3 beta-glucan, and model for end-stage liver disease were positively correlated; zonulin was associated with complications during hospitalization (acute kidney injury) and composite outcomes, and calprotectin was associated with all outcomes except 12-month mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Serum calprotectin and zonulin levels emerge as noninvasive prognostic biomarkers for potentially unfavorable outcomes in patients with decompensated cirrhosis.

Chiari Malformation Type I (CMI) is a prevalent neurosurgical condition characterized by the descent of cerebellar tonsils below the foramen magnum. Surgery, aimed at reducing symptomatology and syrinx size, presents risks, making intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) a potentially vital tool. Despite its widespread use in cervical spine surgery, the utility of IONM in CMI surgery remains controversial, with concerns over increased operative time, cost, restricted anesthetic techniques and tongue lacerations. This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the Cochrane Group standards and PRISMA framework. It encompassed an extensive search through PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science up to December 2023, focusing on clinical and surgical outcomes of IONM in CMI surgery. Primary outcomes included the use of various IONM techniques, complication rates, clinical improvement, reoperation, and mortality. The review, registered at PROSPERO (CRD42024498996), included both prospective and retrospective studies, with rigorous selection and data extraction processes. Statistical analysis was conducted using R software. The review included 16 studies, comprising 1358 patients. It revealed that IONM techniques predominantly involved somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs), followed by motor evoked potentials (MEPs) and Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs). The estimated risk of complications with IONM was 6% (95% CI: 2-11%; I2 = 89%), lower than previously reported rates without IONM. Notably, the clinical improvement rate post-surgery was high at 99% (95% CI: 98-100%; I2 = 56%). The analysis also showed lower reoperation rates in surgeries with IONM compared to those without. Interestingly, no mortality was observed in the included studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis indicate that intraoperative neuromonitoring in Chiari I malformation surgery is associated with favorable clinical outcomes, including lower complication and reoperation rates, and high rates of clinical improvement.

Exercise training leads to physiological cardiac hypertrophy and the protective axis of the renin-angiotensin system composed of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2, angiotensin-(1-7), and Mas receptor seems involved in this process. However, the role of the basal activity of the Mas receptor in exercise-induced physiological cardiac hypertrophy is still unclear. We evaluated the effects of the Mas receptor blockade on the left ventricular structure and function of rats submitted to running training. Rats were assigned to 4 groups: sedentary (S), sedentary + A-779 (Mas receptor antagonist, 120⯵g/kg/day, i.p.; SA), trained (60-minute treadmill running sessions, five days a week, 8 weeks; T), and trained + A-779 (TA). Systolic blood pressure was higher in sedentary and trained rats treated with A-779 at the end of the experimental period. The A-779 treatment prevented the left ventricular hypertrophy evoked by physical exercise and increased collagen deposition in sedentary and trained rats. Cardiomyocytes from the SA group presented increased length and thickness of the sarcomeres, elongated mitochondria, glycogen deposits, and enlarged cisterns of the sarcoplasmic reticulum. TA group presented a reduced sarcomere thickness and cytoplasm with a degenerative aspect. These findings show that the basal activity of the Mas receptor is essential for the proper turnover of the extracellular matrix in the myocardium and the maintenance of the sarcomeric structure of cardiomyocytes.

Ficin fully immobilized on Asp-agarose beads at pH 7 but not on an aminated support. This made enzyme adsorption plus glutaraldehyde modification non-viable for this enzyme. Modifying glyoxyl-agarose beads with mixtures of Asp and 1,6-hexamethylenediamine (HA) at different ratios, mixed anion/cation exchanger supports were built. Only if HA greatly exceed Asp in the support, immobilization did not work. While only using the Asp-agarose support immobilized enzyme molecules were only ionically adsorbed after glutaraldehyde treatment (visualized in SDS-PAGE analysis), the mixed supports gave covalent immobilization. The glutaraldehyde modification of these biocatalysts permitted to establish covalent bonds with the support, and this was more effective when using higher amounts of HA in the support. When around 60 % of the groups in the support were HA, the treatment with glutaraldehyde fully suppressed enzyme release from the support after boiling in SDS. The glutaraldehyde treated biocatalysts were more stable than just the adsorbed enzymes or the enzyme adsorbed only on Asp supports and then treated with glutaraldehyde (the optimal biocatalyst retained 90 % of the initial activity while the just adsorbed ficin retained 50 % of the initial activity). This strategy can be utilized to immobilize other proteins with high isoelectric points following this immobilization strategy.

Herein, a simple synthesis method for Mg2Ni composites with carbon nanofibers capable of hydrogen storage is presented. Specifically, n-butyl-sec-butyl-magnesium solution in hexane (C8H18Mg, 0.7 M) and bis-cyclopentadienyl nickel(II) (nickelocene or NiCp2) were used as precursors for the Mg2Ni nanoparticles. Subsequently, the nanoparticles were composited with carbon nanofibers (CNF) with high loading of Mg2Ni of 50 wt%, 75 wt%, 90 wt%, and 100 wt%. The physicochemical characterization of the materials indicated that the size of the as-prepared Mg2Ni nanoparticles was less than 5 nm and they were highly agglomerated due to a carbon-based binder. The best hydrogen storage values were determined to be 2.6-2.7 wt%. Among the tested materials, the composite with 75 wt% of Mg2Ni in CNF presented the best hydrogen uptake. The pressure-composition-temperature curves indicated changes in the hydriding equilibrium pressures of the Mg2Ni nanoparticles compared to the material with a similar composition produced using ball-milling and thermodynamic calculations. Thus, the results presented herein indicate the beneficial effect of nanosizing on hydriding reactions.

BACKGROUND: Chagas cardiomyopathy (CCM) is increasingly prevalent in developed countries due to migration from endemic areas. Accurate risk stratification is crucial due to the variable clinical course of CCM. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association between Rassi score progression and electrophysiology study (EPS) changes in CCM patients. METHODS: This prospective, observational cohort study involved CCM patients from two tertiary hospitals. Patients were classified as low, intermediate, or high risk based on the Rassi score. Data collected included demographics, clinical history, and diagnostic tests. EPS assessed AH, HH, and HV intervals, and inducibility of ventricular arrhythmias. Follow-ups were at 30 days and six-month intervals, with individualized discussions for cardiac implantable electric devices (CIED) based on EPS results. RESULTS: Of 67 screened CCM patients, 59 underwent EPS. The mean Rassi score was 8.7 ± 4.5 points, with 33.8 % low, 38.9 % intermediate, and 27.1 % high risk. EPS abnormalities were found in 57.6 % of patients, mainly VT/VF (52.5 %). Most induced ventricular arrhythmias were monomorphic VT (80.7 %). A significant association was found between Rassi score risk classification and EPS changes (OR = 1.88 95 %CI: 1.15-3.06 p = 0.02). Higher Rassi scores correlated with VT presence on EPS (p = 0.0036). Syncope/pre-syncope had an OR 2.45 95 %CI:1.21-4.94; p = 0.012, independent of Rassi risk. Decreased ejection fraction was linked to EPS changes (p = 0.04). CONCLUSION: EPS changes among CCM was associated with progression of the Rassi score, indicating its utility as a stratification tool. Factors such as the presence of syncope/pre-syncope, decreased LVEF and wall motion abnormalities emerged as independent predictors within Rassi scores for changes in EPS.

Background: The coexistence of aortic stenosis (AS) and neoplastic pathology are common due to shared risk factors with atherosclerotic disease, such as diabetes, inflammatory conditions, and smoking. Severe AS in patients with cancer requires careful assessment in order to select the appropriate therapeutic choices and their timing (i.e. valve treatment first vs. cancer treatment first). Case summary: A 66-year-old woman with a history of smoking was admitted to our centre due to heart failure (HF). During her hospitalization, severe AS with severe ventricular dysfunction and cancer were documented. Because of her severe heart disease, she was unable to receive antineoplastic treatment. Therefore, she underwent percutaneous surgery to treat the aortic valve. After that, the management of cancer became possible, which included bilateral radical mastectomy and chemotherapy.We are presenting a case of cancer coexisting with aortic stenosis and reduced left ventricle ejection fraction. In this case, we performed Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) with the aim of improving the ejection fraction, followed by chemotherapy. Discussion: Cancer patients may be further disadvantaged by AS if it interferes with their treatment by increasing the risk associated with oncologic surgery and compounding the risks associated with cardiotoxicity and HF. Clinical trials and guidelines on TAVR exclude cohorts with limited life expectancy. Hence, the correct and optimal care for cancer patients with severe AS is complex. The TAVR, for cancer patients with severe AS, can more frequently be the best clinical choice by avoiding cardiopulmonary bypass, minimal invasiveness, and therefore, shorter recovery time.

Pathogenic variants in RAD51C confer an elevated risk of breast and ovarian cancer, while individuals homozygous for specific RAD51C alleles may develop Fanconi anemia. Using saturation genome editing (SGE), we functionally assess 9,188 unique variants, including >99.5% of all possible coding sequence single-nucleotide alterations. By computing changes in variant abundance and Gaussian mixture modeling (GMM), we functionally classify 3,094 variants to be disruptive and use clinical truth sets to reveal an accuracy/concordance of variant classification >99.9%. Cell fitness was the primary assay readout allowing us to observe a phenomenon where specific missense variants exhibit distinct depletion kinetics potentially suggesting that they represent hypomorphic alleles. We further explored our exhaustive functional map, revealing critical residues on the RAD51C structure and resolving variants found in cancer-segregating kindred. Furthermore, through interrogation of UK Biobank and a large multi-center ovarian cancer cohort, we find significant associations between SGE-depleted variants and cancer diagnoses.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of frailty and activities of daily living (ADL) disability may be higher in high-altitude Andean regions, due to chronic hypoxia, malnutrition, and physical challenges. and their association is relevant. This study aimed to evaluate the association between frailty and ADL disability among older adults residing in the Totos district in Peru during the year 2022. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Totos district (mean altitude: 3286 m above sea level), located in Ayacucho, Peru, during 2022. A complete census was employed including residents aged 60 and above. The exposure variable was frailty, defined by fulfilling 3 or more criteria of the Fried phenotype. The outcome variable was ADL disability, defined as a score below 95 on the Barthel index. Generalized linear models with a Poisson family, logarithmic link function, and robust variances were employed to estimate crude prevalence ratios and adjusted prevalence ratios (aPRs), along with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: We evaluated 272 older adults with a mean age of 74 years, of whom 59.9% were female, 62.1% were cohabiting or married and 83.1% had not completed primary education. We found that 19.5% were frail, while 51.1% had ADL disability. In the adjusted regression model, we found frailty increased the prevalence of ADL disability (aPR = 1.77; 95%CI: 1.44-2.16; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Frailty was associated with an increased prevalence of ADL disability. These findings could contribute to establishing government intervention plans to manage disability and frailty within the high-risk group comprising older adults living at high altitudes.

We report acute Oropouche virus infections in 2 previously healthy women from a nonendemic region of Brazil outside the Amazon Basin. Infections rapidly progressed to hemorrhagic manifestations and fatal outcomes in 4-5 days. These cases highlight the critical need for enhanced surveillance to clarify epidemiology of this neglected disease.

Asthma, when untreated, may lead to serious implications, especially in the pediatric population. Understanding the perceptions and needs of children and their caregivers may optimize asthma management. This study was aimed to analyze the perceptions of children and their caregivers regarding asthma and its pharmacotherapy. This is a qualitative study using 2 focus groups. We use the Bardin's content analysis. Three researchers made data cross-validation. As for results, the first focus group comprised 7 children who had uncontrolled asthma. The second group comprised 7 caregivers who were the children's mothers. Four categories emerged: living with asthma, impact of asthma, medications, and health care. Asthma and its pharmacotherapy significantly affect the daily activities of children and mothers. Thus, understand feelings and experiences of patients and caregivers, in addition to educational and welcoming interventions for families in asthma management may be carried out by health care professionals to minimize the damage caused by this disease.

The developmental origins of healthy and disease (DOHaD) concept has demonstrated a higher rate of chronic diseases in the adult population of individuals whose mothers experienced severe maternal protein restriction (MPR). Using proteomic and in silico analyses, we investigated the lung proteomic profile of young and aged rats exposed to MPR during pregnancy and lactation. Our results demonstrated that MPR lead to structural and immune system pathways changes, and this outcome is coupled with a rise in the PI3k-AKT-mTOR signaling pathway, with increased MMP-2 activity, and CD8 expression in the early life, with long-term effects with aging. This led to the identification of commonly or inversely differentially expressed targets in early life and aging, revealing dysregulated pathways related to the immune system, stress, muscle contraction, tight junctions, and hemostasis. We identified three miRNAs (miR-378a-3p, miR-378a-5p, let-7a-5p) that regulate four proteins (ACTN4, PPIA, HSPA5, CALM1) as probable epigenetic lung marks generated by MPR. In conclusion, MPR impacts the lungs early in life, increasing the possibility of long-lasting negative outcomes for respiratory disorders in the offspring.

The absence or decrease in sleep time can affect different mechanisms associated with changes in body composition and physical exercise performance. However, it is unclear in the literature how chronically sleep-restricted individuals respond to strength training. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of reducing between one and two hours of recommended sleep time (7 hours) on the response to resistance training. The study included 12 subjects who slept on average 2 hours less than the recommended 7 hours per day (42 ± 8 years; 84.9 ± 11.6 kg; 27.9 ± 3.5 kg/m 2 ; 6:17 ± 22 total sleep time/day and 5: 47 ± 29 sleep time/night) and 12 subjects with recommended sleep time (38 ± 11 years; 78.3 ± 9.5 kg; 25.1 ± 3.5 kg/m 2 ; 7:47 ± 38 total sleep time/day and 7:16 ± 54 sleep time/night) and a control group (42 ± 7 years; 81 ± 12.2 kg; 26.2 ± 4.0 kg/m 2 ; 7:30 ± 40 total sleep time/day and 7: 17 ± 51 sleep time/night) that did not perform resistance training. A total of 16 resistance training sessions were performed, 3 times a week (Sessions= 4 exercises; 2 sets; maximum repetitions to failure). The maximum number of repetitions, arm circumference, and arm muscle area increased, while triceps skinfold decreased after training in the experimental groups ( p < 0.05), with no changes for the control group. There was no difference in muscle mass, body mass index, or sleep variables (sleep time, latency, efficiency) after the training period in either group (p> 0.05). Thus, the chronic 1-2-hour reduction in average recommended sleep time was not able to affect the positive effects of resistance training.
