RESUMO

Extramedullary plasma cell tumours are uncommon neoplasia. Their highest incidence is in the upper respiratory tract, specially in the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and nasopharynx. They represent the 4% of all the non-epithelial tumours of this site. Their evolution is unsteady and a 30% of the cases develop into a multiple mieoloma.

RESUMO

Adults Rhabdomyoma are benign and rare tumors of skeletal muscle. The bibliography gathers about 60 cases, sitting on the head and the neck (95%), specially on the floor of the mouth, larynx or pharynx. Two exceptional case has been reported, one in the abdominal wall, the other on the retroperitoneal space, the latter being a mixed rhabdomyoma (either foetal and adult). Although the condition shows typical morphological features, the interest of the case reported, rely, apart of its scant presentation, on the possibility of leading to a mistaken clinic-macroscopic diagnosis of malignant mesenchymal tumor, because of its outward appearance.

RESUMO

A pseudomesotheliomatous adenocarcinoma, which is a rare form of peripheral pulmonary tumor with diffuse thickening of the pleural cavity mimicking a mesothelioma, and a malignant mesothelioma with a carcinoma like disseminating pattern are presented. The biopsy obtained by thoracotomy in one case, and the necropsy studies enabled the diagnosis by the microscopic pattern, the presence of mucosubstances (PAS diastase) and the immune histochemical profiles with antibodies against several antigenic groups (CEA, EMA, CAM 5.2, and Vimentin. The value of these techniques to differentiate adenocarcinomas and mesotheliomas is discussed. The presence of CEA orients to an epithelial origin of a neoplasia.
