RESUMO

Enterotoxaemia is a severe disease caused by Clostridium perfringens and render high mortality and huge economic losses in livestock. However, scanty information and only few cases are reported about the presence and patho-physiology of enterotoxaemia in camels. The bacterium induces per-acute death in animals due to rapid production of different lethal toxins. The necropsy of camels (per-acute = 15, acute = 3) was conducted at 18 outbreaks of enterotoxaemia in camels in the desert area of Bahawalpur region. At necropsy, the serosal surfaces of visceral organs in the abdominal, peritoneal and thoracic cavities were found to have petechiation with severe congestion. Moreover, both the cut-sections of different visceral organs and the histo-pathological analysis revealed the pathological lesions in heart, lungs, kidneys, spleen, small and large intestines. Grossly, the kidneys were severely congested, hyperemic, swollen and softer in consistency. Under the microscope, different sections of kidneys indicated that the convulated and straight tubules were studded with erythrocytes. In the intestines, there were stunting fusion of crypts and villi. Similarly, various histo-pathological ailments were also observed in the heart, lungs and spleen. At blood agar, the collected samples showed beta hemolytic colonies of C. perfringens that appeared as medium sized rods microscopically and stained positively on Gram staining. Multiplex PCR revealed C. perfringens type A (α and ß2 genes) and D (epsilon gene) and the deaths were found to be significantly higher due to C. perfringens type D compared to those by C. perfringens type A. Hence, it has been concluded that enterotoxaemia in camel affects multiple organs and becomes fatal, if occurred due to C. perfringens type D.

RESUMO

In the present work, lauric acid was taken as a phase change material (PCM), and different nanoparticles (NPs) such as SiO2, TiO2, CuO, and ZnO were taken as the supporting materials. CuO NPs were prepared through the co-precipitation technique; SiO2, TiO2, and ZnO NPs were synthesized via the sol-gel technique. These NPs with different weight fractions were dispersed into molten lauric acid, individually. The variations in thermal properties (phase change temperature and latent heat for solid and liquid) of the prepared composite PCMs due to the dispersion of NPs were observed by DSC analyses. An increase in thermal conductivity of the composite PCMs was observed with the increasing weight fraction of NPs. In order to ascertain the long-term utility, a thermal reliability test was conducted on the composite PCMs with repeated heating and cooling cycles. Also, the specific heats of the pure PCM and the composite PCMs were determined as a function of temperature. Further, the experimental investigation was performed on the pure PCM and the prepared composite PCMs to assess their phase change behavior, and the test results clearly proved that the time required for the complete melting and freezing process of the composite PCMs was less when compared to pure PCM. By considering the above facts, the newly prepared composite PCMs can be recommended as a potential candidate for low-temperature solar heating applications.

RESUMO

The use of renewable energy resources for off-grid electricity production has gained more importance in recent decades for meeting the energy needs of remote areas, even with limited resources. This research aims to provide an optimized and cost-effective approach for generating electricity in rural areas. By using current methodology, a stand alone energy source of PV is designed for development of NZE village. Solar irradiance of the selected location is 6.16 kWh/m2/day while the estimated electric load data for whole village is 64.259 kWh. Electric load and solar irradiance of the loaction is used in the Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER) to design and analyze the techno-economic feasibility of the stand alone PV system to meet the load requirements. The study obtained the total Net Present Cost (NPC) of $0.511 M and the Cost Of Electricity (COE) is 2.26$/unit through the HOMER analysis, which is further refined by performing sensitivity analysis using parameters such as PV panel price, battery price, solar irradiance, variations in electric load and discount rates. According to the results, system is feasibile by annual electricity production of 30,078 kWh with initial capital investment of $0.434 M. This analysis compared the system performance and showed that it is economically and technically viable to meet the complete electricity needs of the village with a payback period of 7.2 years. Research can be utilized for policy making and implementation of NZE approach in remote areas by the government.

RESUMO

The present study evaluated the host plant effect on life type characteristics of three important spider mite pest species, Tetranychus urticae Koch, Eutetranychus orientalis (Klein), and E. palmatus Attiah (Acari: Prostigmata: Tetranychidae), based on both field and laboratory observations. The polyphagous species, T. urticae with complicated web (CW-u) life type, occupying unstable habitats, showed variations in the sites for quiescence (SQ), sites for oviposition (SO), sites for defecation (SD), and webbing density (WD) on different annual/perennial host plants. The SQ, SO, and SD of T. urticae were observed either on the leaf, web threads, or trichomes. Tetranychus urticae constructed the lowest WD on tomato plants and the highest WD on maize/mulberry plants. Two spider mite species of the genus Eutetranychus Banks, the polyphagous E. orientalis and the oligophagous E. palmatus, inhabit stable host plants, depicted in the little web (LW-j) life types with persistency in all characteristics on different plants. It is concluded that polyphagous spider mites have restricted their life types, showing their high adaptability to utilize the resources of different host plants for survival with slight variation in some important life type characteristics.

RESUMO

The present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of new, less toxic, less harmful, and nonmetallic graphite (G) and metallic iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanofuel additives by analyzing experimentally their consequences on exhaust emissions and performance of an air cooled, single cylinder, 4-stroke gasoline engine. Fe2O3 and graphite nanoparticles at 40, 80, and 120 mg/l of gasoline concentrations were mixed with gasoline by means of a magnetic stirrer. Brake power (BP), brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC), torque (T), brake thermal efficiency (BTE), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were the investigated parameters. Experimental results indicated that G-blends showed a higher rise in brake power, brake thermal efficiency and torque and a greater reduction in the brake-specific fuel consumption as compared to that of Fe2O3 fuel blends. Moreover, the G-blends produced less NOx and CO2 than Fe2O3 blends but produced more emissions of CO and HC than that of Fe2O3 blends. On average, G-blends produced 0.46%, 0.71%, and 1.71% more torque, power, and BTE and 2.43%, 1.87%, and 13.39% less brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC), NOx, and CO2 than Fe2O3 blends, respectively. So, in terms of the eight parameters, four performance parameters (i.e., T, BP, BSFC, BTE), and four engine emission exhaust indicators (i.e., CO, NOx, HC, CO2), graphite nanoparticles showed more positive results for 6 parameters (T, BP, BSFC, BTE, NOx, CO2), while two parameters HC and CO showed negative results with graphite as compared to that of Fe2O3 nanoparticles. So, overall, we conclude that nanoparticles of graphite are more engine and environment friendly than that of iron oxide fuel additives.

RESUMO

To overcome the extensive heat generation inside the microprocessors nanofluids have gained importance because of their better thermophysical properties as compared with air and water. This work proposes a two-pronged strategy for thermal performance enhancement of mini channel heat sinks. Firstly, a novel dual flow slotted fin mini channel heat sink flow configuration is proposed. Secondly, a detailed numerical investigation is performed to assess heat transfer enhancement property of Al2O3-H2O and TiO2-H2O nanofluids. Considering the first step, fin spacing, number of slots, slot thickness and slot angle are investigated in detail yielding to the selection of best structural parameters. Two slots per fin of 0.5 mm thickness at an angle of 45° is selected because it provides better thermal performance as compared with water. Further, numerical assessment of nano fluid behavior was carried out at volumetric concentrations of 0.005% and 0.01%. For the case of novel dual flow slotted fin mini channel heat sink, maximum numerical and experimental advantages in all targeted system properties is observed for Al2O3-H2O nano fluid at volumetric concentration of 0.01%, as compared with water. Al2O3-H2O nano fluid provides better thermal performance both numerically and experimentally as compared with TiO2-H2O nanofluids. Increment in the pressure drop is noted with increasing volumetric concentrations.

RESUMO

With the ever-growing importance of green technology, the utilization of inorganic metal oxide nanoparticles and their nanofluids against microorganisms garnered more attention than organic metal oxides in recent years. Therefore, using safer, energy and cost-effective natural raw materials, stabilizing agents, and solvents are the fundamental considerations of the greener process. Due to their unique properties, larger surface area to volume ratio, higher stability and selective toxicity towards microbial pathogens, ZnO, TiO2 and silver nanoparticles are considered environmentally friendly and cost-effective antimicrobial agents. Furthermore, amine-based silica nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes are used for the carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide separation. The review mainly focuses on the green synthesis of the various nanoparticles to form nanofluids and their application in environmental remediation. In this light, the current paper briefly summarizes the preparation methods and the prospective environmental remediation applications of various nanofluids in the field of microorganisms controlling mechanisms, wastewater treatment methods and harmful gaseous removal methods.

RESUMO

According to the demand of the present world, as everything needs to be economically viable and environment-friendly, the same concept applies to machining operations such as drilling, milling, turning, and grinding. As these machining operations require different lubricants, nanofluids are used as lubricants according to the latest technology. This paper compares different nanofluids used in the same machining operations and studies their effects. The variation in the nanofluid is based on the type of the nanoparticle and base fluid used. These nanofluids improve the lubrication and cooling in the machining operations. They also aid in the improvement in the surface roughness, cutting forces, cutting temperature of the workpiece, and tool life in the overall process taking place. It is worth noting that nanofluids are more effective than simple lubricating agents. Even within the nanofluid, the hybrid type is the most dominating, and helps to obtain a maximum efficiency through certain machining processes.

RESUMO

The demand for high-performance and compact electronic devices has been increasing day by day. Due to their compactness, excessive heat is generated, causing a decrease in efficiency and life. Thermal management of electronic components is crucial for maintaining excessive heat within the limit. This experimental research focuses on the combined effect of nano-enhanced phase-change material (NePCM) with different configurations of heat sinks for cooling electronic devices. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are used as nanoparticles with concentrations of 3 wt% and 6 wt%, RT-42 as the phase-change material (PCM), and aluminum as the pin fin heat sink material. Different configurations of the heat sink, such as circular, square, and triangular pin fins, are used against the fixed volume fraction of the fins. It is found that the square configuration has the highest heat transfer with and without PCM. A maximum base temperature reduction of 24.01% was observed in square pin fins with RT-42 as PCM. At 6 wt% of NePCM, the maximum base temperature lessened by 25.83% in the case of a circular pin fin. It is concluded from the results that a circular pin fin with NePCM is effective for base temperature reduction, and all fin configurations with NePCM collectively reduce the heat sink base temperature.

RESUMO

To reduce fuel consumption, the automotive air-conditioning (AAC) system's coefficient of performance (COP) needs to be improved. The use of a diverse selection of hybrid nanolubricant composition ratios is expected to improve the properties of single nanolubricants, resulting in improved AAC system performance. The goal of this study was to find the best combination of hybrid nanolubricants for the best performance of the AAC system. Al2O3-SiO2/PAG hybrid nanolubricants at 0.06% volume concentrations with various composition ratios (20:80, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, and 80:20) were investigated. An initial refrigerant charge of up to 155 g and a compressor speed of up to 2100 rpm were used in the experiment. The cooling capacity, compressor work, and COP of the AAC system were measured to determine its efficiency. The COP enhancement and compressor work reduction were recorded up to 16.31% and 18.65% for the 60:40 composition ratio, respectively. The maximum cooling capacity up to 75.84% was recorded for the 80:20 ratio, followed by 60:40. The maximum COP value of 8.81 for 155 g of hybrid nanolubricants was obtained at 900 rpm with a 60:40 composition ratio. Therefore, for optimal performance in the AAC system, a 60:40 composition ratio of the Al2O3-SiO2/PAG nanolubricant combination is strongly recommended.

RESUMO

The purpose and novelty of our study include the scrutinization of the unsteady flow and heat characteristics of the unsteady Sutterby nano-fluid flow across an elongated cone using slip boundary conditions. The bioconvection of gyrotactic micro-organisms, Cattaneo-Christov, and thermal radiative fluxes with magnetic fields are significant physical aspects of the study. Anisotropic constraints on the cone surface are taken into account. The leading formulation is transmuted into ordinary differential formate via similarity functions. Five coupled equations with nonlinear terms are resolved numerically through the utilization of a MATLAB code for the Runge-Kutta procedure. The parameters of buoyancy ratio, the porosity of medium, and bioconvection Rayleigh number decrease x-direction velocity. The slip parameter retard y-direction velocity. The temperature for Sutterby fluids is at a hotter level, but its velocity is vividly slower compared to those of nanofluids. The temperature profile improves directly with thermophoresis, v-velocity slip, and random motion of nanoentities.

RESUMO

The thermal performance of different hybrid nanofluids on the mini hexagonal tube heat sink has been investigated experimentally. Al2O3/SiO2-DIW, Al2O3/CuO-DIW, and CuO/SiO2-DIW nanofluids have been used as the working fluids. The aggregate of 0.01 volume fraction of Al2O3, CuO, and SiO2nanoparticles for hybridizing ratios (80:20) has been considered to prepare deionized water-based hybrid nanofluids. The thermal performance of three different hybrid nanofluids inside the mini hexagonal tube heat sink has been assessed. The varying volumetric flow rates of 15-50 lph have been maintained on the hexagonal tube side and 50 lph on the mini passage side. Herein, the proposed hexagonal-shaped heat sink provides a larger heat contact surface to exchange the heat between the hybrid nanofluids and hot DIW. It is divulged that the increase in the volume flow rate of nanofluids promotes the higher Brownian motion, leading to an increase in convective heat transfer. Amongst three hybrid nanofluids, CuO/SiO2-DIW nanofluids have revealed a slight increase in pumping power while increasing the volume flow rate. From the experimental results, it is shown that the heat transfer coefficient, effectiveness, and Nusselt number have been improved by 54.5%, 42%, and 28.4%, respectively, for Al2O3/CuO-DIW nanofluids. Thus, Al2O3/CuO-DIW nanofluid can be deemed to be an efficient working fluid for the miniature heat sinks to accelerate the heat transfer rates.

RESUMO

The two-dimensional boundary layer flow of a Prandtl nanofluid was explored in the presence of an aligned magnetic field over an inclined stretching/shrinking sheet in a non-Darcy permeable medium. To transform the PDEs of the leading equations into ODEs, a coupled boundary value problem was formed and suitable similarity functions were used. To obtain numerical answers, an efficient code for the Runge-Kutta technique with a shooting tool was constructed with a MATLAB script. This procedure is widely used for the solution of such problems as it is efficient and cost-effective with a fifth-order accuracy. The significance of immersed parameters on the velocity, temperature, concentration, and bioconvection is shown through figures. Furthermore, the physical parameters of the skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt numbers are demonstrated in tables. The declining behavior of the flow velocity against the porosity parameter Kp and the local inertia co-efficient Fr is shown, and the both parameters of the Darcy resistance and Darcy-Forchheimer resistance are responsible for slowing the fluid speed. The increasing values of the Schmidt number Sc decrease the concentration of the nano entities.

RESUMO

This study addresses thermal transportation associated with dissipated flow of a Maxwell Sutterby nanofluid caused by an elongating surface. The fluid passes across Darcy-Forchheimer sponge medium and it is affected by electromagnetic field applied along the normal surface. Appropriate similarity transforms are employed to convert the controlling partial differential equations into ordinary differential form, which are then resolved numerically with implementation of Runge-Kutta method and shooting approach. The computational analysis for physical insight is attempted for varying inputs of pertinent parameters. The output revealed that the velocity of fluid for shear thickening is slower than that of shear thinning. The fluid temperature increases directly with Eckert number, and parameters of Cattaneo-Christov diffusion, radiation, electric field, magnetic field, Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The Nusselt number explicitly elevated as the values of radiation and Hartmann number, as well as Brownian motion, improved. The nanoparticle volume fraction diminishes against Prandtl number and Lewis number.

RESUMO

This study aims to study the discharging process to verify the influence of geometry modifications and heat transfer flow (HTF) patterns on the performance of a vertical triplex-tube latent heat container. The phase change material (PCM) is included in the middle tube, where the geometry is modified using single or multi-internal frustum tubes instead of straight tubes to enhance the discharging rate. The effects of the HTF flow direction, which is considered by the gravity and opposite-gravity directions, are also examined in four different cases. For the optimal geometry, three scenarios are proposed, i.e., employing a frustum tube for the middle tube, for the inner tube, and at last for both the inner and middle tubes. The effects of various gap widths in the modified geometries are investigated. The results show the advantages of using frustum tubes in increasing the discharging rate and reducing the solidification time compared with that of the straight tube unit due to the higher natural convection effect by proper utilization of frustum tubes. The study of the HTF pattern shows that where the HTF direction in both the inner and outer tubes are in the gravity direction, the maximum discharging rate can be achieved. For the best configuration, the discharge time is reduced negligibly compared with that for the system with straight tubes which depends on the dimensions of the PCM domain.

RESUMO

Parabolic trough collectors (PTC) are one of the most established solar concentrating systems which have been used in a wide variety of applications. Enhancing their performance is critical to establish them as a viable technology. Internal obstacles are an intriguing way for improving the collector's performance. However, the usage of obstacles results in increasing pressure loss. The purpose of this research is to numerically explore the impact of introducing obstacles to the receiver tube of a parabolic trough collector on heat transmission in PTCs and its overall thermal performance. The first part analyzed the effects of geometrical parameters, orientation angle (α = 45°, 90° or 135°), and spacing of obstacles (P/D = 1, 2, or 3) on the fluid motion, heat transfer, and performance. Then, a non-uniform heat flow was applied to the absorber's outer surface. The effects of nanoparticles type, temperature profile, and heat transfer performance of three different nanofluids (Cu/thermal oil, Al2O3/thermal oil, andTiO2/thermal oil) were studied in the second part. The simulation results show that, the friction factor increased when P/D decreases, and that the absorber tube with obstacles discs (α = 90°) and P/D = 2 achieved the best thermal performance. Additionally, increasing the concentration of solid nanoparticles in thermal oil improves heat transmission, and the Cu nanofluid has the greatest Nusselt number.

RESUMO

The addition of nanoparticles may have a positive or negative impact on the thermal and tribological properties of base lubricant. The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of nanoparticle dispersion in lubricant base in relation to its application in refrigeration system compressors. An investigation of tribological and thermal properties of nanolubricants for rolling piston rotary systems was carried out through four-ball tribology tests and thermal conductivity measurements. Nanolubricants dispersed with SiO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles were tested at various concentrations and temperatures. The changes in thermal conductivity and coefficient of friction (COF) were analyzed while wear weight loss was also calculated from wear scar size. A regression model of thermal conductivity enhancement was proposed for both types of nanoparticles. Zeta potential results show that nanolubricants have excellent stability. The thermal conductivity increases by the increment of nanoparticle concentration but decreases by temperature. The R-square for the regression model is more than 0.9952 with an average deviation not more than 0.29%. The COF for SiO2/PVE nanolubricant at 0.003 vol.% reduced 15% from the baseline. The COF for nanolubricants exceeds the result for base lubricants when the concentration is more than the threshold value. The optimum concentration of SiO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles improved the thermal and tribological properties of PVE lubricant and may offer an advantage when applied to refrigeration systems.

RESUMO

Cutting fluid has cooling and lubricating properties and is an important part of the field of metal machining. Owing to harmful additives, base oils with poor biodegradability, defects in processing methods, and unreasonable emissions of waste cutting fluids, cutting fluids have serious pollution problems, which pose challenges to global carbon emissions laws and regulations. However, the current research on cutting fluid and its circulating purification technique lacks systematic review papers to provide scientific technical guidance for actual production. In this study, the key scientific issues in the research achievements of eco-friendly cutting fluid and waste fluid treatment are clarified. First, the preparation and mechanism of organic additives are summarized, and the influence of the physical and chemical properties of vegetable base oils on lubricating properties is analyzed. Then, the process characteristics of cutting fluid reduction supply methods are systematically evaluated. Second, the treatment of oil mist and miscellaneous oil, the removal mechanism and approach of microorganisms, and the design principles of integrated recycling equipment are outlined. The conclusion is concluded that the synergistic effect of organic additives, biodegradable vegetable base oils and recycling purification effectively reduces the environmental pollution of cutting fluids. Finally, in view of the limitations of the cutting fluid and its circulating purification technique, the prospects of amino acid additive development, self-adapting jet parameter supply system, matching mechanism between processing conditions and cutting fluid are put forward, which provides the basis and support for the engineering application and development of cutting fluid and its circulating purification.

RESUMO

Cu- and Sm-doped ZnO nanorod arrays were grown with 1 wt% of Sm and different weight percents (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 wt%) of Cu by two-step hydrothermal method. The influence of Cu concentration and precursor of Sm on the structural, optical and photovoltaic properties of ZnO nanorod arrays was investigated. An X-ray diffraction study showed that the nanorod arrays grown along the (002) plane, i.e., c-axis, had hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure. The lattice strain is present in all samples and shows an increasing trend with Cu/Sm concentration. Field emission scanning electron microscopy was used to investigate the morphology and the nanorod arrays grown vertically on the FTO substrates. The diameter of nanorod arrays ranged from 68 nm to 137 nm and was found highly dependent on Cu concentration and Sm precursor while the density of nanorod arrays almost remains the same. The grown nanorod arrays served as photoelectrodes for fabricating dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The overall light to electricity conversion efficiency ranged from 1.74% (sample S1, doped with 1 wt% of Sm and 0.0 wt% of Cu) to more than 4.14% (sample S4, doped with 1 wt% of Sm and 1.5 wt% of Cu), which is 60% higher than former sample S1. The increment in DSSCs efficiency is attributed either because of the doping of Sm3+ ions which increase the absorption region of light spectrum by up/down conversion or the doping of Cu ions which decrease the recombination and backward transfer of photo-generated electrons and increase the electron transport mobility. This work indicates that the coupled use of Cu and Sm in ZnO nanorod array films have the potential to enhance the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells.

RESUMO

Verticillium wilt is a major limiting factor for sustainable production of cotton but the mechanism of controlling this disease is still poorly understood. Lipoxygenase (LOX)-derived oxylipins have been implicated in defense responses against diverse pathogens; however there is limited information about the functional characterization of LOXs in response to Verticillium dahliae infection. In this study, we report the characterization of a cotton LOX gene, GhLOX2, which phylogenetically clustered into 13-LOX subfamily and is closely related to Arabidopsis LOX2 gene. GhLOX2 was predominantly expressed in leaves and strongly induced following V. dahliae inoculation and treatment of methyl jasmonate (MeJA). RNAi-mediated knock-down of GhLOX2 enhanced cotton susceptibility to V. dahliae and was coupled with suppression of jasmonic acid (JA)-related genes both after inoculation with the cotton defoliating strain V991 or MeJA treatment. Interestingly, lignin contents, transcripts of lignin synthesis genes and H2O2 contents were also decreased in GhLOX2-silenced plants. This study suggests that GhLOX2 is involved in defense responses against infection of V. dahliae in cotton and supports that JA is one of the major defense hormones against this pathogen.
