RESUMO

Lead-free double perovskites are unique materials for transport and optoelectronic applications that use clean resources to generate energy. Using first-principle computations, this study thoroughly investigates the structural, thermoelectric, and optical attributes of A2TlAgF6 (A = Rb, Cs). Tolerance factor and formation energy estimates are used to verify that these materials exist in the cubic phase. Elastic constants with high melting temperature values are ductile when evaluated for mechanical stability using the Born stability criterion. The optical absorption band is adjusted from 2 to 4 eV via band gaps of 1.88 and 1.99 eV, as indicated by band structures. Analysis of optical properties reveals perfect absorption in the visible spectrum, whole polarization, and low optical loss. Furthermore, thermoelectric properties are assessed at 300, 500, and 700 K in the range of -0.5 to 3 eV for chemical potential (µ). The materials exhibit significant improvements in the Figure of Merit scale due to their elevated electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient, and extremely low thermal conductivity values.

RESUMO

In this work, Fabrication, and characterization of Cu-doped ZnO thin films deposited on porous silicon (PSi) substrates have been reported using electrochemical deposition (ECD) technique. The influence of Cu-doping concentrations on morphology, structure, and electrical characteristics of zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were presented. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) has been used to characterize the lattice constants, average size, in-plane (along a-axis) and out of plane (along c-axis) strains for the Cu-ZnO crystals. The effects of Cu-doping concentration on crystal parameters were also investigated from the XRD analysis. The samples were used for UV-sensing applications. In addition, Cu-doped ZnO and pure ZnO metal-semiconductor-metal photodetector, with Cu as electrode contacts were successfully produced for ultraviolet (UV) detection. The I-V (current-voltage) characteristics were used to study the sensing enhancement. Finally, the UV photodetector based on Cu-doped ZnO films was successfully fabricated and shows a five times enhancement in the sensitivity to UV light compared to that of pure ZnO photodetector.

RESUMO

Successful synthesis of ZnO-chitosan nanocomposites was conducted for the removal of methylene blue from an aqueous medium. Remarkable performance of the nanocomposites was demonstrated for the effective uptake of the dye, thereby achieving 83.77, 93.78 and 97.93 mg g-1 for the chitosan, 5 wt.% ZnO-Chitosan and 10 wt.% ZnO-Chitosan, respectively. The corresponding adsorption efficiency was 88.77, 93.78 and 97.95 for the chitosan, 5 wt.% ZnO-Chitosan and 10 wt.% ZnO-Chitosan, respectively. Upon regeneration, good reusability of the nanocomposites was manifested for the continuous removal of the dye up to six consecutive cycles. The adsorption process was kinetically described by a pseudo-first order model, while the isotherms were best fitted by the Langmuir model.

RESUMO

The manganese doped zinc sulfide nanoparticles were synthesized by simple aqueous chemical reaction of manganese chloride, zinc acetate and thioacitamide in aqueous solution. Thioglycolic acid is used as capping agent for controlling the nanoparticle size. The main advantage of the ZnS:Mn nanoparticles of diameter ~2.73nm is that the sample is prepared by using non-toxic precursors in a cost effective and eco-friendly way. The structural, morphological and chemical composition of the nanoparticles have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The nanosize of the prepared nanoparticles was elucidated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). FTIR result ensures that Thioglycolic acid is well bonded on the surface of ZnS:Mn NPs. The antifungal effects of Thioglycolic acid capped ZnS:Mn nanoparticles exhibited a potent antifungal activity against tested fungal strains, so deserving further investigation for clinical applications. The antifungal property of manganese doped zinc sulphide nanoparticles is attributed to the generation of reactive oxygen species due to the interaction of nanoparticles with water. Additionally, the presence of Zn and S in the zone of inhibition area leads to perturbation of fungi cell membranes resulting in growth inhibition.
