Large hospital-wide outbreak of Paenibacillus spp pseudobacteremia associated with contaminated nonsterile gloves.

We report a large, hospital-wide outbreak of pseudobacteremia by Paenibacillus spp. In total, 139 patients presented at least 1 positive blood culture during a 13-month period. Microbiological experiments indicated that contaminated nonsterile gloves were associated with the pseudobacteremia episodes. The outbreak was resolved by discontinuing the use of the involved brand.

Rhizobium radiobacter recovered from blood of a pediatric patient with stem cell transplantation: a case report and characterization of antimicrobial susceptibility profile

Rhizobium radiobacter is an uncommon agent of infection and has been associated with indwelling intravascular devices such as catheter in immunocompromised patients. Here, we report a case of R. radiobacter recovered from blood cultures in stem cell transplantation in a pediatric patient and present an extensive characterization of its antimicrobial susceptibility profile. The isolate presented low MICs to many antimicrobial agents, but high MICs to ceftazidime, piperacillin-tazobactam, aztreonam, and fosfomycin.

Chronic slowly progressive monoarthritis tuberculosis of the hip without systemic symptoms mimicking osteoarthritis: a case report.

The authors report and discuss the clinical and radiological features of a immunocompetent patient with chronic progressive monoarthritis tuberculosis of the hip without systemic symptoms such as fever, and weight loss presenting as caseating abscess and severe destruction of the hip joint, treated with resection arthroplasty.
