RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review is to examine the effectiveness of oral hygiene care in the management of oral symptoms in patients with cancer under specialist palliative care and the patients' experience of such symptoms and care. INTRODUCTION: Oral symptoms, such as xerostomia, mouth pain, or dysgeusia, are highly prevalent in patients with cancer under specialist palliative care. These symptoms have a negative effect on patients' quality of life. Oral hygiene care can manage oral symptoms and could be improved with a more systematized approach, adequate guidelines, and training to properly integrate oral hygiene into the care provided in specialist palliative care. INCLUSION CRITERIA: This review will consider quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies on the effectiveness and experience of oral hygiene care intended to manage oral symptoms in patients with cancer aged 18 years or older, diagnosed with any type of cancer, under specialist palliative care. METHODS: The search will be conducted in MEDLINE (PubMed), CINAHL (EBSCOhost), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Dentistry and Oral Sciences Source (EBSCOhost), and MedicLatina (EBSCOhost). Sources of unpublished studies and gray literature to be searched will include Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations and Repositórios Científicos de Acesso Aberto de Portugal. Studies in English, Portuguese, and Spanish published from 2000 to the present will be considered. Methodological quality of included studies will be assessed and data will be extracted. Synthesis and integration will follow the JBI segregated approach for mixed methods reviews. REVIEW REGISTRATION: PROSPERO CRD42023400554.

RESUMO

Population aging will be one of the major social transformations in the coming decades, with a very significant impact in all countries. The consequences of this will cause an overload of social and health services. It will be necessary to prepare for an aging population. The promotion of healthy lifestyles is necessary to increase quality of life and well-being as people age. The aim of this study was to identify and synthesize interventions in middle-aged adults that promote healthy lifestyles and translate this knowledge into health gains. We performed a systematic review of the literature with research on the EBSCO Host-Research Databases platform. The methodology followed the PRISMA guidelines, and the protocol was registered with PROSPERO. A total of 10 articles out of 44 retrieved were included in this review, which identified interventions to promote healthy lifestyles with an impact on well-being, quality of life, and adherence to healthy behaviors. The synthesized evidence supports the efficacy of interventions that contributed to positive changes at the biopsychosocial level. Health promotion interventions were educational or motivational and related to physical exercise, healthy eating, and changes in habits and lifestyles related to harmful behaviors (tobacco use, excess carbohydrates in the diet, physical inactivity, and stress). The health gains found were increased mental health knowledge (self-actualization), adherence to physical exercise, improvement in physical condition, adherence to the consumption of fruits and vegetables, increased quality of life, and well-being. Health promotion interventions in middle-aged adults can significantly improve healthy lifestyles, protecting them from the negative effect of aging. For aging to be a successful experience, continuity of healthy lifestyles practiced in middle age is necessary.

RESUMO

Over the last years, there have been several studies that have shown insufficient levels of adolescents' mental health literacy (MHL). Knowledge about intervention programs that promote positive mental health literacy (PMeHL) among adolescents is still very scarce. In this sense, we defined as objectives to identify and describe the necessary components to design a program proposal that promotes adolescents' PMeHL. We conducted an exploratory, descriptive, qualitative study using two focus groups in July and September 2022 with an intentional non-probability sample of eleven participants (nine professional experts and two adolescents). Data were analyzed using content analysis, using NVivo® 12 software (version 12, QRS International: Daresbury Cheshire, UK). We obtained a total of four categories and eighteen subcategories: structure (context; format; contents; length and frequency; pedagogical methods; pedagogical techniques; resources; denomination), participants (target group; program facilitators), assessment (timing; evaluation instruments), other components (planning, articulation and adaptation; involvement; training; special situations; partnerships; referral). The perspectives of the professional experts and of the adolescents that we obtained from this study contributed to the design of a proposal for a program to promote adolescents' PMeHL.

Active ageing is a subject of particular relevance at a time when the need to face the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century has led to new ways of understanding education. Thus, the competency-based learning model currently implemented in European, Latin American and other educational systems must be considered in all age groups regardless of geographic or socio-demographic criteria. In the Spanish education legislation, competences are defined as the “abilities to apply the content of each stage of teaching and learning in an integrated manner, in order to attain the appropriate performance of activities and the effective resolution of complex problems”. As can be deduced from this definition, the great challenge lies in putting them into practice in the teaching-learning processes. In this respect, Traditional Knowledge (TK) is presented as a tool to encourage dialogue, intergenerational health and, consequently, care for our elders from school to university. Moreover, the encounter between generations at different educational stages can enhance the life experience of older people and the development of two-way skills resulting from this interaction. Currently, the «Inventario Español de los Conocimientos Tradicionales relativos a la Biodiversidad» (IECTB) (Spanish Inventory of Traditional Knowledge related to Biodiversity), drawn up to comply with Law 42/2007 of 13 December, on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, is a reference point for the work on social gerontology and the development of teaching materials with the proposed pedagogical philosophy. RESUMO

People have specific and unique individual and contextual characteristics, so healthcare should increasingly opt for person-centered care models. Thus, this review aimed to identify and synthesize the indicators for the care process of the person with depression and/or anxiety disorders, based on patient-centered care, going through the stages of diagnostic assessment and care planning, including intervention. An integrative literature review with research in seven scientific databases and a narrative analysis were carried out. Twenty articles were included, with indicators for diagnostic evaluation and care/intervention planning being extracted. Care planning focused on people with depression and/or anxiety disorder must be individualized, dynamic, flexible, andparticipatory. It must respond to the specific needs of the person, contemplating the identification of problems, the establishment of individual objectives, shared decision making, information and education, systematic feedback, and case management, and it should meet the patient's preferences and satisfaction with care and involve the family and therapeutic management in care. The existence of comorbidities reinforces the importance of flexible and individualized care planning in order to respond to the specific health conditions of each person.

RESUMO

Introduction: Depression and anxiety are mental diseases found worldwide, with the tendency to worsen in the current pandemic period. These illnesses contribute the most to the world's rate of years lived with disability. We aim to identify and synthesize indicators for the care process of the person with depression and/or anxiety disorders, based on patient-centered care, going through the stages of diagnostic assessment, care planning, and intervention. Methods and analysis: An integrative literature review will be conducted, and the research carried out on the following databases: MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, CINAHL, Web of Science, TrialRegistry, and MedicLatina. The research strategy contains the following terms MesH or similar: "patient-centered care," "depression," and "anxiety." Two independent revisers will perform the inclusion and exclusion criteria analysis, the quality analysis of the data, and its extraction for synthesis. Disagreements will be resolved by a third revisor. All studies related to diagnostic assessment, care planning, or intervention strategies will be included as long as they focus on care focused on people with depression and anxiety, regardless of the context. Given the plurality of the eligible studies, we used the narrative synthesis method for the analysis of the diagnostic assessment, the care and intervention planning, and the facilitators and barriers. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42021235405.
