RESUMO

Using a mathematical approach, this paper presents a generalization of semi-analytical expressions for the point spread function (PSF) of plenoptic cameras. The model is applicable in the standard regime of the scalar diffraction theory while the extension to arbitrary main lens transmission functions generalizes a priori formalism. The accuracy and applicability of the model is well verified against the exact Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction integral and a rigorous proof of convergence for the PSF series expression is made. Since vignetting can never be fully eliminated, it is critical to inspect the image degradation it poses through distortions. For what we believe is the first time, diffractive distortions in the diffraction-limited plenoptic camera are closely examined and demonstrated to exceed those that would otherwise be estimated by a geometrical optics formalism, further justifying the necessity of an approach based on wave optics. Microlenses subject to the edge diffraction effects of the main lens vignetting are shown to translate into radial distortions of increasing severity and instability with defocus. The distortions due to vignetting are found to be typically bound by the radius of the geometrical defocus in the image plane, while objects confined to the depth of field give rise to merely subpixel distortions.

RESUMO

This study presents a technique to identify the vibration characteristics in power transmission towers and to detect the potential structural damages. This method is based on the curvature of the mode shapes coupled with a continuous wavelet transform. The elaborated numerical method is based on signal processing of the output that resulted from ambient vibration. This technique benefits from a limited number of sensors, which makes it a cost-effective approach compared to others. The optimal spatial location for these sensors is obtained by the minimization of the non-diagonal entries in the modal assurance criterion (MAC) matrix. The Hilbert-Huang transform was also used to identify the dynamic anatomy of the structure. In order to simulate the realistic condition of the measured structural response in the field condition, a 10% noise is added to the response of the numerical model. Four damage scenarios were considered, and the potential damages were identified using wavelet transform on the difference of mode shapes curvature in the intact and damaged towers. Results show a promising accuracy considering the small number of applied sensors. This study proposes a low-cost and feasible technique for structural health monitoring.

RESUMO

The effect of solar radiation on thermal distribution in thin high arch dams is investigated. The differential equation governing thermal behavior of mass concrete in three-dimensional space is solved applying appropriate boundary conditions. Solar radiation is implemented considering the dam face direction relative to the sun, the slop relative to horizon, the region cloud cover, and the surrounding topography. It has been observed that solar radiation changes the surface temperature drastically and leads to nonuniform temperature distribution. Solar radiation effects should be considered in thermal transient analysis of thin arch dams.

RESUMO

We have performed a measurement of the K+-->pi(+)pi(0)gamma decay and have observed 2x10(4) events. The best fit to the decay spectrum gives a branching ratio for direct photon emission of (4.7+/-0.8+/-0. 3)x10(-6) in the pi(+) kinetic energy region of 55 to 90 MeV and requires no component due to interference with inner bremsstrahlung.
