RESUMO

Because renal leiomyosarcoma is extremely rare, the experience in the management of this tumor type is necessarily scant. Our surgical and chemotherapeutic approach in a 17-year-old male patient with renal leiomyosarcoma achieved partial remission of tumor recurrence and a survival of 31 months following diagnosis.

RESUMO

The first two cases of diverticulum of the female urethra seen in our Service are described. The secretion of purulent material from the urethra on vaginal compression prompted us to suspect this condition, which could not be confirmed radiologically in one case and a urethroscopy procedure was required. The etiopathogenesis of this disease is briefly reviewed and the therapeutic possibilities depending on the location of the urethral diverticulum are discussed.

RESUMO

The lymphatic system is the most common site of metastasis of prostatic carcinoma. However, carcinoma of the prostate presenting as lymphadenopathy is rare. It can present at any site and may sometimes mimic lymphoreticular tumors. The diagnosis is based on the histological findings. Histochemical techniques using immunoperoxidase demonstration of acid phosphatase and prostate specific antigen are fundamental in detecting the occult tumor of the prostate. Treatment is palliative and enlargement may occasionally remit with hormone therapy. The prognosis is invariably poor. Survival is less than 5 years irrespective of the response to treatment. Three cases are described herein: 2 presented as retroperitoneal mass and 1 as left lateral cervical lymphadenopathy.

RESUMO

A case of spontaneous urinary extravasation secondary to bladder carcinoma is described. The patient received systemic polychemotherapy which reduced tumor size and resolved renal ectasia and urinary extravasation. Spontaneous urinary extravasation secondary to bladder carcinoma is rare. For this reason we considered it of interest to report this case.

RESUMO

The case of a primary retroperitoneal hydatidosis in a 62 year-old patient found accidentally during an haematuria study is presented. Both the possible extraperitonization mechanisms and efficacy of ultrasound scanning and percutaneous puncture in the etiological diagnosis in cases of retroperitoneal mass are evaluated.

RESUMO

Von Hippel-Lindau disease is a very uncommon finding in our environment. A case of an incidental finding of that entity expressed through retinal angioma, bilateral renal cysts and bilateral renal carcinoma is described. A surgical course was followed performing a radical left nephrectomy, given the large size of the tumour, and right lower partial nephrectomy, as well as a review of the renal cysts considering the big tendency they have to degenerate in the disease.

RESUMO

Seven cases of hydatid renal cyst seen at our department over the past 8 years are described. The literature is reviewed and the importance of conservative surgery in the treatment of this disease is highlighted.

RESUMO

A case of carcinoma of the prostate metastatic to breast is reported. We highlight its rarity, its relationship with estrogen treatment, and the poor prognosis of this condition which develops in the end stages of metastatic carcinoma of prostate.

RESUMO

We describe a patient who developed superficial necrosis of the glans penis from irritation after topical treatment with 1% gentian violet. The foregoing condition resolved after withdrawal of treatment. A differential diagnosis (sexually transmitted diseases, epidermoid carcinoma, etc.) is warranted on finding this type of lesion in the glans penis.

RESUMO

Nephro-intestinal fistulas involve the GI tract and the kidney or pyelocalyceal system. The main causes may be urologic or digestive, the site diverse. Reno-colic fistulas, although rare, are more frequently observed. We describe a case of left reno-colic fistula secondary to lithiasic pyonephrosis that presented as sepsis. Diagnosis was confirmed by retrograde pyelography. Treatment was by surgery (left nephrectomy, closure of the fistula, and colonorhaphy).

RESUMO

Adrenal incidental tumors are masses incidentally discovered on ultrasonography or CT for other abdominal disorders. Management depends on tumor size, nature, content, and hormonal behaviour. We report on a large, nonfunctioning adrenocortical adenoma that was incidentally discovered in a 59-year-old male patient with right-sided costo-lumbar trauma.
