RESUMO

This study was performed during a 10-year period at several hospitalization centres from various districts in Slovenia and Croatia. The number of elderly patients, above 65 years, compared with the total number of inpatients in the aforementioned departments and clinics in the course of 10 years ranged from 12% to 25%. The percentage of psoriatics, according to the total number of elderly in-patients was 1.8% in Rijeka, 2.3% in Maribor, 4% in Celje and up to 6.1% in Zagreb. On the whole, 241 psoriatics (165 males and 76 females) were treated in the above centres during a 10-year period. The number of patients with psoriasis vulgaris was 214 on the whole; among them 13 presented with psoriasis arthropatica, 6 with pustular psoriasis (one with the palmo-plantar variety) and 8 with erythrodermic psoriasis. Retinoids (etretinate) increase serum lipids and decrease HDL cholesterol in the long-term treatment, thus increasing the already existing risk of atherosclerosis and of coronary heart diseases in older life age. Serum lipids, HDL and LDL cholesterol and A and B apolipoprotein are therefore monitorized each week when etretinate has been given.

RESUMO

Keratodermia palmoplantaris of the Unna - Thost type was studied in the population of Slovenia. Altogether 157 patients were recorded: 106 were examined by the authors; for the other 51, anamnestic data were used. Special attention was paid to the accompanying symptoms which are more or less rarely mentioned in the literature: hyperkeratosis of the elbows and knees, transgredience of the hyperkeratosis, hyperkeratotic changes of the nails and changes of the teeth. It is estimated that there are in Slovenia 8.44 PPK UT patients per 100 000 inhabitants.

RESUMO

17 patients with palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) were detected among 48 investigated members of the clan O. 5 of these 17 patients had a well-expressed hyperkeratosis on their knees. In one family hyperkeratosis of the knees was inherited as a dominant feature, but in two other families it was not. The observation was made that the expressivity of the disease was fading: while there were 15 PPK patients among the 25 investigated members in the generations II and III, there were only 2 patients among 22 members in the generations IV and V. In addition to PPK incontinentia pigmenti was diagnosed in two instances and pollex duplex in one. The question of the identity of PPK of Greither's type is shortly discussed.

RESUMO

A case of xanthogranuloma juvenile (the small papular form) in a six month-old boy is presented. Only cutanous lesions are seen and the child is of good health. On the scalp, trunk and limbs there are 17 yellowish pea-sized papules. Histopathology reveals a dense infiltrate in the dermis which is composed of histiocytes, a number of giant cells of the foreign-body type is also present. With Sudan III staining in some of the histiocytes small droplets of lipids are seen. Other laboratory investigations are within normal limits.
