RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Basal cell carcinoma and leiomyoma of the scrotum are rare. We describe three cases of scrotal tumors and provide information regarding this disease. METHODS: Between 2000 and 2014, 3 patients with scrotal tumors were diagnosed and treated at our institution. A review was performed using the clinical records of these patients. RESULTS: We describe two cases of basal cell carcinoma of the scrotum in men 72 and 71 year old, who presented with a left scrotal lesion that was excised and the pathological diagnosis was basal cell carcinoma. In one patient, surgical margin was affected and a recurrent basal cell carcinoma appeared. It was excised with enlargement of surgical margin. We also describe a case of scrotal leiomyoma in a 48 year old man with an elastic, firm and nontender lesion in the right scrotum. During follow-up the patients remain clinically asymptomatic. CONCLUSIONS: Scrotal lesions in the elderly should be excised and submitted for pathological examination. The basal cell carcinoma of the scrotum appears as a plaque, nodule or ulcer. Long-term surveillance is recommended for these patients. Leiomyoma of the scrotum is presented as a non-ulcerative nodule and his treatment is complete surgical excision.

Objective: We report two cases of collecting duct carcinoma that were diagnosed in our hospital in a six-month period. Methods/results: The first case was a 75-years-old woman showing in CT scan a mass in the left kidney which infiltrated perinephric fat. The second case was a 72-years-old that showed in a CT scan a right renal pelvis lesion, involving inferior vena cava and renal vein. After surgical resection by radical nephrectomy in both cases, we confirmed the histological diagnosis of collecting duct carcinoma. Conclusions: Collecting duct carcinoma is a rare variant of renal cell carcinoma which originates from the epithelium of the collecting tubule. It is characterized by both its aggressiveness and peculiar histological and inmunohistochemical diagnosis, that separates it from the rest of renal tumors (AU)

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To study and review the etiopathogenic hypothesis for endometriosis and the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of bladder endometriosis. METHODS/RESULTS: We report two cases and review the international bibliography, collecting the cases published by Spanish authors. CONCLUSIONS: Bladder endometriosis is a rare pathological entity, but its diagnosis should be considered in fertile women with urinary tract symptoms during menstruation. Diagnosis is obtained by various imaging tests (ultrasound, CT scan, MRI), and is confirmed with cystoscopy and biopsy. The treatment may be surgical (TUR, partial cystectomy) and/or medical (hormonal).

The case of a newborn male infant with congenital Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is presented. At birth, showed cutaneous lesions (papules and vesicles with a haemorrhagic aspect), mucosal and ganglionic involvement. Biopsy of these lesions led to the diagnosis of LCH. At 24 hours of life the patient began with respiratory, hepatic, hematological and renal dysfunction, and died at 72 hours of life, despite corticoid treatment. LHC with vesicles and a rapid and fatal development, has previously only been described in three patients. The differential diagnosis of a disseminated and hemorrhagic vesicular eruption in a newborn infant is extensive and must include LHC.

RESUMO

Presentation of one case of bilateral suprarenal pheochromocytoma as early clinical evidence of a type 2 MEN, which at the time of diagnosis was a bilateral lesion. The presentation form was a picture of shock with HBP. Labetalol i.v. was used for initial control and phenoxybenzamine in the pre-operative. Diagnosis was achieved by biochemical (metanephrine) and radiological (CAT) testing. The patient was managed with bilateral suprarenalectomy through a single, anterior incision and abdominal cavity examination. The investigation of the remaining conditions that conform this syndrome was continued and a familial routine study implemented.

RESUMO

We studied the efficacy of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) grafts in the surgical correction of extensive tracheal defects in rabbits. Results showed anastomotic stenosis in 100% of the animals after primary reconstruction when a total of six complete rings were resected. We did not appreciate tracheal stenosis in no animal when we applied a PTFE prosthesis placed around the anastomotic site. Results were not satisfactory upon repairing partial tracheal defect by means of a spindle of PTFE prosthesis. We concluded that the external tutor is useful for the surgical correction of the tracheal stenosis induced after resection of six rings in the cervical tracheal of the animal.
