RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Communication is a basic need of humans. Identifying factors that prevent effective nurse-patient communication allows for the better implementation of necessary measures to modify barriers. This study aims to compare the barriers to effective nurse-patient communication from the perspectives of nurses and patients in COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 wards. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2022. The participants included 200 nurses (by stratified sampling method) and 200 patients (by systematic random sampling) referred to two conveniently selected hospitals in Shahroud, Iran. The inclusion criteria for nurses were considered having at least a bachelor's degree and a minimum literacy level for patients to complete the questionnaires. Data were collected by the demographic information form and questionnaire with 30 and 15 questions for nurses and patients, which contained similar questions to those for nurses, based on a 5-point Likert scale. Data were analysis using descriptive indices and inferential statistics (Linear regression) in SPSS software version 18. RESULTS: The high workload of nursing, excessive expectations of patients, and the difficulty of nursing work were identified by nurses as the main communication barriers. From the patients' viewpoints, the aggressiveness of nurses, the lack of facilities (welfare treatment), and the unsanitary conditions of their rooms were the main communication barriers. The regression model revealed that the mean score of barriers to communication among nurses would decrease to 0.48 for each unit of age increase. Additionally, the patient's residence explained 2.3% of the nurses' barriers to communication, meaning that native participants obtained a mean score of 2.83 units less than non-native nurses, and there was no statistically significant difference between the COVID and non-COVID wards. CONCLUSION: In this study, the domain of job characteristics was identified by nurses as the major barrier, and patients emphasized factors that were in the domain of individual/social factors. There is a pressing need to pay attention to these barriers to eliminate them through necessary measures by nursing administrators.

RESUMO

The emissive properties of two Ru(II) complexes, [Ru(dmbipy)2L1][PF6]2 (1) and [Ru2(dmbipy)4L2][PF6]4 (2), (where L1 and L2 are π-extended phenanthroline-based ligands and dmbipy = 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine) have been explored for dual applications, namely, deep-red light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensors for the detection of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) that include chlorpyrifos (CPS). A simple single-layer deep-red LEC device comprising 2 is reported that outperforms both its mononuclear derivative 1 and all previously reported dinuclear LECs, with a maximum brightness of 524 cd/m2, an external quantum efficiency of 0.62%, and a turn-on voltage of 3.2 V. Optoelectronic studies reveal that the ECL response of 2 is improved when compared to its mononuclear counterpart 1 and benchmark [Ru(bipy)3]2+ (3). Modified glassy carbon electrodes coated with 2 are highly sensitive deep-red ECL sensors that facilitate the detection of CPS directly from river water and fruit samples without any complex pretreatment steps, operating over a broad logarithmic concentration range, with a low detection limit.

RESUMO

RATIONALE, AIMS, AND OBJECTIVES: Cell-based therapeutics are among the latest advances in health care technologies. The rapid evolution of stem cell science in Iran has necessitated the application of scientific achievements in clinical settings. However, various issues hindered their translation, in particular, impediments in the interactions of basic stem cell scientists and clinicians. We highlighted the impediments in the interactions of stem cell scientists and physicians involved in the opinion of professionals from both groups. METHOD: This qualitative research was conducted with thematic analysis, performed by purposive sampling. Thirty-two distinguished stem cell scientists and clinicians were interviewed to identify their perspectives on this matter. MAXQDA 2018 was used to classify the axial codes based on factors related to communications inefficiencies. The analysis of coded data recognized 18 subthemes and six major themes. RESULTS: Central themes include different registers of the two parties, counterproductive clusters hampered networking, external communication barriers, the competition to access resources, leadership conflicts, and the dissatisfaction of stakeholders with their share. CONCLUSIONS: Most of the impediments were seemingly global, for example, the incoherent medical and basic science educational systems, the vulnerable career path of physician-scientists, and an increasing tendency towards overspecialization. However, some local specific issues were also described, for example, limited funding opportunities and the negative impacts of the division of medical education from the ministry of science, research, and technology in Iran. Proposed interventions include the reinforcement of physician-scientist programs, designing a distributed leadership model, and bringing back the scientific integrity to higher education in Iran.

RESUMO

The Sr0.95Sm0.0125Dy0.0125□0.025Ti0.90Nb0.10O3±Î´/ZrO2 composite was directly prepared through spark plasma sintering. This approach limited the grain growth and facilitated the achievement of a narrow grain size distribution due to fast sintering and ZrO2 effects. Thermal conductivity declined to 1.68 W m-1 K-1, which is the lowest among the reported values for micro-polycrystalline SrTiO3-based structures.
