AMP-deaminase from thymus of patients with myasthenia gravis.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is characterized clinically by skeletal muscle fatigue following the excessive exercise. Interestingly most of MG patients manifest parallely also some abnormalities of the thymus.AMP-deaminase (AMPD) from human thymus was not a subject of studies up to now. In this paper, mRNA expression and some physico-chemical and immunological properties of AMPD purified from the thymus of MG patients were described. Experiments performed identified the liver isozyme (AMPD2) as the main isoform of AMPD expressed in this organ. The activity of AMPD found in this organ was higher than in other human non-(skeletal) muscle tissues indicating on role the enzyme may play in supplying of guanylates required for the intensive multiplication of thymocytes.

Cardiac muscle AMP-deaminase from a 10-year-old male heterozygous for the AMPD1 C34T mutation.

A C34T mutation in the AMPD1 gene is proposed to cause local or systemic augmentations in blood adenosine level and improvement of prognoses in heart diseases like congestive heart failure or heart ischemic disease. This study examines some physico-chemical properties of AMP-deaminase isolated from cardiac muscle of a 10-year-old boy heterozygote for this mutation.

[Psychosocial conditions of psychotropic drug poisoning of patients treated in the Gdansk Toxicology Center]. / Psychospoleczne uwarunkowania zatruc lekami psychotropowymi u chorych leczonych w Gdanskim Osrodku Toksykologicznym.

The purpose of the study was in analysis of both causes and social conditioning leading to attempts of self-intoxications by the use of psychotropic drugs. The study included 234 patients treated in the Gdansk Toxicological Center during years 1982-1987. In a majority, the intoxications referred to young subjects up to 30 year of age, more frequently women than men. Only 10% of subjects studied have had university education. The alcohol or drug dependence and various psychiatric disturbances has been noted in a majority of cases studied. The lack of real suicidal determination was characteristic pattern of group observed.

A case of systemic lupus erythematosus is reported in a woman aged 41 years with exudative pericarditis as the predominating manifestation of the disease. Attention is called to the diagnostic usefulness of demonstration of LE cells in pericardial effusion.
