RESUMO

Diclazuril (DIC) is a broad-spectrum anti-coccidiosis drug of the triazine class, widely used in poultry farming. The overuse of DIC may lead to its accumulation in animal bodies, which may enter the food chain and threaten human health. In this work, we fabricated a stable Eu3+-doped UiO-66 fluorescence sensor (EuUHIPA-30) for the sensitive detection of DIC. Among 20 veterinary drugs, the fluorescence of EuUHIPA-30 selectively responds to DIC, with a low detection limit (0.19 µM) and fast response (10 s). EuUHIPA-30 is recyclable and can detect DIC in chicken and eggs with good recoveries. Moreover, a smartphone-integrated paper-based sensor enables the instrument-free, rapid, visual, and intelligent detection of DIC in chickens and eggs. This work provides a promising candidate for practical fluorescent DIC sensing in animal-derived food to promote food safety.

RESUMO

Albendazole (ABZ), a benzimidazole-based anthelmintic, is widely used to treat helminth infections. The extensive and improper use of ABZ may cause drug residues in animal-origin food and anthelmintics resistance, which potentially threaten human health. Meanwhile, albendazole sulfoxide (ABZSO), a metabolite of ABZ, also exhibits toxic effects. Therefore, the detection of ABZ and ABZSO in animal-derived food is significantly necessary. Herein, a dual-emission europium fluorescent sensor (EuUHC-30) was rationally designed and constructed. EuUHC-30 exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity towards ABZ and ABZSO with a detection limit of 0.10 and 0.13 µM, respectively. Furthermore, EuUHC-30 was successfully applied for quantification of ABZ and ABZSO in milk and pig kidney, which were verified by HPLC analysis. Moreover, a smartphone-assisted EuUHC-30 fluorescent paper sensor was fabricated for the practical determination of ABZ and ABZSO in real food. Overall, this work provides a visual, rapid, and intelligent method for the detection of ABZ and ABZSO in animal-origin food.

RESUMO

A europium-functionalized, dual-emissive, metal-organic framework-based fluorescence sensor (EuUCNDA) was constructed via post-synthetic modification of an UiO-66-type precursor through coordination interactions. EuUCNDA exhibited extremely high selectivity and sensitivity for malachite green (MG) with a low detection limit of 13.01 nM, a wide linear concentration range (0.05-50 µM), excellent anti-interference properties, a rapid response (<1 min), and the possibility of recycling. The good sensing performance of EuUCNDA enables the practical detection of MG in fish pond water and grass carp with good recoveries. Moreover, EuUCNDA can be reused for sensing MG and over 90% of fluorescence intensity can be restored after 7 cycles. Furthermore, EuUCNDA-embedded paper-based sensors combined with smartphone imaging afford portable and visual monitoring of MG in real samples. Notably, besides good sensing performance, EuUCNDA could efficiently remove MG from water. Hence, this work provides a recyclable and sensitive fluorescence sensor for portable, visual, rapid detection and efficient removal of MG.

RESUMO

Multi-target detection combined with in-situ removal of contaminants is a challenging issue difficult to overcome. Herein, a dual-emissive Eu3+-metal organic framework (Eu3+-MOF) was constructed by pre-functionalization with a blue-emissive ligand and post-functionalization with red-emissive Eu3+ ions using a UiO-66 precursor. The fluorescence of the synthesized Eu3+-MOF is highly selective and sensitive toward malachite green (MG) and its metabolite leuco-malachite green (LMG), which are environmentally persistent and highly toxic to humans. The limit of detection of MG and LMG are 34.20 and 1.98 nM, respectively. Interestingly, the fluorescence of this Eu3+-MOF showed ratiometric but different responsive modes toward MG and LMG, which enabled the simultaneous quantification of MG and LMG. Furthermore, a paper-based sensor combined with the smartphone was fabricated, which facilitated not only the dual-channel detection of MG, but also its portable, visual, rapid, and intelligent determination. Furthermore, the high surface area of MOFs, together with the coordinate bonding interaction, π-π stacking, and electrostatic interaction sites, endows Eu3+-MOF with the efficient ability toward MG removal. This multifunctional Eu3+-MOF can be successfully used for trace detection, simultaneous determination of MG and LMG, as well as efficient removal of MG. Thus, it exhibits bright prospects for widespread applications in the field of food and environmental analysis.

RESUMO

Self-powered sensing system (SPSS) integrating the enzymatic biofuel cell and biosensing platform has attracted tremendous interest. However, natural enzymes suffer from the intrinsic drawbacks of enzymes and enzymatic proteins. Nanozymes with enzyme-like activities are the ideal alternatives to enzymes, and it is greatly challenging to explore high-performance nanozymatic biofuel cell for SPSS. Herein, the advanced nanozymatic biofuel cell-enabled SPSS is developed for the sensitive detection of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA), where Ir single atoms supported by nitrogen-doped carbon and Au nanozymes serve as the cathode and anode, respectively. Based on the excellent electrochemical activity and stability, the resultant nanozymatic biofuel cell exhibits a higher power output and open-circuit potential than the Pt/C-based counterpart, which is beneficial for the application of SPSS. As a proof of concept, the nanozymatic biofuel cell-enabled SPSS shows a wide detection range of 0.2-500 ng mL-1 with a detection limit of 62 pg mL-1 for PSA, which provides new insight into broadening the application scenarios of nanozymes.

RESUMO

Based on the promising development of carbon dots in antibacterial applications, Girard's reagent T-based carbon dots (GRT-CDs) with a mean size of 2.41 nm and excellent antibacterial performance were synthesized through a one-step method. The minimum inhibitory concentration ofGRT-CDswas 200 µg ml-1for bothEscherichia coli (E. coli)andStaphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). The bacterial growth curves showed that the inhibitory effect ofGRT-CDson bacterial multiplication was strongly concentration-dependent. The bactericidal effect ofGRT-CDswas further demonstrated by the large differences in bacterial fluorescence staining plots. Zeta potential measurements and scanning electron microscope images indicated thatGRT-CDsformed complexes with bacteria, which affected the normal physiological activities of bacteria, causing their rupture and death. In addition,GRT-CDsefficiently inhibited biofilm formation and removed mature biofilms. Furthermore,GRT-CDsalso exhibited a remarkable inhibitory activity on MRSA. Cytotoxicity experiments showed thatGRT-CDshad good cytocompatibility and even promoted cell proliferation at low concentrations. Therefore, theGRT-CDsobtained from a one-precursor and one-pot synthesis show good prospects for antibacterial applications.

RESUMO

A novel dual-emissive Eu3+-loaded metal-organic framework (MOF) is designed and successfully fabricated by introducing 2-hydroxyterephthalic acid (H2BDC-OH) and Eu3+ ions into an UiO-66-type MOF material. The obtained MOF, here referred to as EuUCH, exhibits dual emission at 450 and 614 nm, and both emissions are quite stable in aqueous media in the pH range of 4-11. EuUCH is characterized by a high selectivity and sensitivity toward Fe3+ and Al3+, which yield different responsive modes. The two emissions of EuUCH are quenched by Fe3+; by contrast, only the emission at 450 nm is quenched by Al3+ showing a ratiometric fluorescence signal. More importantly, as there is no clear interference between the signals of Fe3+ and Al3+, EuUCH is successfully utilized for the simultaneous detection of Fe3+ and Al3+ in their mixtures. In addition, the simultaneous quantification of Fe3+ and Al3+ is achieved in more complicated swine wastewater with good recoveries. This work provides a water-stable dual-emissive probe and the possibility to achieve the simultaneous quantification of Fe3+ and Al3+ in complicated environment wastewater.

RESUMO

Blue-fluorescent blood-CDs were synthesized through a one-pot hydrothermal method using a mixture of chicken blood and trisodium citrate and then explored as a fluorescent probe for detecting Fe3+ and Hg2+. The probe showed excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe3+ and Hg2+ with a dramatic "on-off" fluorescence response. F- recovered the fluorescence quenching by Fe3+, and Al3+ recovered the fluorescence quenching by Hg2+, showing an "off-on" fluorescence response. The blood-CDs were used as an "on-off-on" dual-channel fluorescent sensor for the detection and discrimination of Fe3+ and Hg2+ ions. The probe showed wide linear ranges for determination of Fe3+ (0-100 µM) and Hg2+ (0-120 µM) with low detection limits of 0.23 µM for Fe3+ and 0.17 µM for Hg2+. This probe was practically applied for the determination of Fe3+ and Hg2+ in piggery feed and wastewater with good recoveries. This work provides a fluorescent probe for the quantification of Fe3+ and Hg2+ in livestock feed and environmental water samples.

RESUMO

This study investigates the nexus of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) shock, financial flexibility (FF), and firm performance (FP) in Taiwan listed hotel firms. Quantile regression (QR) methods were used to analyze the data from Taiwan Stock Exchange listed hotel firms between 2020 Q1 and 2021 Q2. The results evidence that there is an inversed U-shaped linkage between FF and FP for the hotel industry. Additionally, FF has an inverted U-shaped effect on FP for the asset-light hotel firms for all quantiles except the 50th quantile. In addition, FF also has an inverted U-shaped impact on FP for the asset-heavy hotel firms in the 10th and 90th quantiles. A significant finding in this study is that there is a concave non-linear relationship between FF and FP, consistent with the law of diminishing marginal return. That is, with an increase in FF, the FP is on the rise; when FF exceeds the inflection point level, the FP begins to decline. Thus, a firm must ensure that the FF strategy it adopts must be the most efficient and effective, i.e., it must bring the trade-off between costs and benefits. The empirical results highlight the need for the hotel industry of Taiwan to take the rolling adjustment and optimization of FF after the COVID-19 pandemic for long-term sustainability.

RESUMO

Tetracyclines (TCs), a type of antibiotics, are widely used in human therapy and animal husbandry. Public concerns about tetracyclines residues have been raised due to their negative impact on the environment and food, causing bacterias drug resistance and human health concerns. In this work, a luminescent europium MOF (EuUCBA) is constructed via post-synthetic attachment of Eu3+ into a UiO-66 type MOF. The luminescent of EuUCBA exhibits high stability in aqueous media in the pH range of 4-11. Among 36 common veterinary drugs, the synthesized probe is highly selective and sensitive to six tetracyclines with low detection limits of 0.118 µM, 0.228 µM, 0.102 µM, 0.138 µM, 0.206 µM, and 0.078 µM for oxytetracycline (OTC), chlortetracycline (CTC), methylenetetracycline (MTC), minocycline (MOC), tetracycline (TC), and doxycycline (DOXY), respectively. Furthermore, the probe shows good anti-interference ability and fast response. Finally, EuUCBA was successfully to detect DOXY in swine wastewater and pig kidney with good recoveries. This work provides an excellent fluorescent sensor for highly selective and rapid detection of TCs residues in wastewater and complex biological samples.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mutations in the beta1,3-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2 (B3GALNT2) gene can lead to impaired glycosylation of α-dystroglycan, which, in turn, causes congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD). The clinical phenotypes of CMD are broad, and there are only a few reports of CMD worldwide. CASE SUMMARY: This report describes the cases of two children with CMD caused by B3GALNT2 gene mutation. The main manifestations of the two cases were abnormal walking posture, language development delay, and abnormal development of the white matter. Case 2 also had unreported symptoms of meningocele and giant arachnoid cyst. Both cases had compound heterozygous mutations of the B3GALNT2 gene, each containing a truncated mutation and a missense mutation, and three of the four loci had not been reported. Nineteen patients with CMD caused by B3GALNT2 gene mutation were found in the literature. Summary and analysis of the characteristics of CMD caused by B3GALNT2 gene mutation showed that 100% of the cases had nervous system involvement. Head magnetic resonance imaging often showed abnormal manifestations, and more than half of the children had eye and muscle involvement; some of the gene-related symptoms were self-healing. CONCLUSION: B3GALNT2 gene can be used as one of the candidate genes for screening CMD, cognitive development retardation, epilepsy, and multiple brain developmental malformations in infants.

RESUMO

Despite a huge body of literature revealing that the effect of environmental, social and governance (ESG) scores on a firms' financial performance and value, it lacks the empirical research on the nexus between corporate sustainable growth and ESG risk in the existing research. The paper aims to examine the nexus between ESG risk and corporate sustainable growth. This study utilizes a quantile regression approach to explore how ESG risk affects corporate sustainable growth (proxied by sustainable growth rate, SGR). The ordinary least squares estimation results confirm that ESG significantly negatively affects corporate sustainable growth. The quantile regression results reveal ESG risk has a significant negative effect on corporate sustainable growth in the upper quantiles of SGR, but not in the lower and median quantiles. The results show that the impact of ESG risk on the corporate sustainable growth is asymmetric and affected by the distribution of SGR. Furthermore, the research results identify that the negative relationship between ESG risk and corporate sustainable growth is particularly apparent for firms in environmentally sensitive industries. This study greatly contributes to existing literature, as with this detailed knowledge, managers can make decisions based on these associations and identify the most lucrative course of action.

RESUMO

The Vaganov-Shashkin model was used to simulate the standardized ring-width chrono-logy of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica on the sandy land in Hulunbuir. The results showed that the fitting degree was better in the period before 2000 than that after 2000. Thus, the simulation results before 2000 were selected to analyze the radial growth. The results showed that the main growing season of P. sylvestris var. mongolica in Hulunbuir Sandy Land was from May to September each year. Temperature had a significant impact on the early and late growth of P. sylvestris var. mongo-lica. In the prosperous period of the growing season, insufficient soil moisture was the main factor restricting the radial growth. The radial growth rates of P. sylvestris var. mongolica in extremely narrow years were more limited by soil moisture than that in extremely wide years. The radial growth rates in the middle of the growing season (from July to August) showed a decreasing trend in wide and narrow years, indicating that the growth of P. sylvestris var. mongolica was affected by drought stress. Our results were consistent with the characteristics of tree-ring physiological models in semi-arid areas of China. The model was applicable to the radial growth simulation of P. sylvestris var. mongolica in Hulunbuir Sandy Land.

RESUMO

Health risk analysis can predict and control the risks posed by heavy metals, especially in drinking water, which is a highly sensitive environmental receptors. In order to evaluate heavy metal pollution in drinking water, the monthly average concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, Hg, Ni, and Zn were used to assess the health risk between January 2015 and December 2018 in a drinking water source. Furthermore, Spearman rank correlation coefficient and the ARIMA model were used to analyze temporal variations. The results showed that the monthly average concentrations of heavy metals exceeded the class Ⅲ values as specified by Chinese environmental quality standard for surface water(GB 3838-2002), especially Hg with a minimum monthly average four times more than that set by the standard limits. Overall, the order of carcinogenic risk of As and Cd was decreased; the non-carcinogenic risk of Zn, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Hg was increased. Further, the comprehensive non-carcinogenic risk for adults was lower than 1 throughout the study period except February 2015, when the comprehensive non-carcinogenic risk for children was lower than or close to 1 after October 2017, and the comprehensive carcinogenic risk for children was more than 10-4. Meanwhile, the children's health risks are higher than that for adults, with the main health risk characteristic factors of As, Cd, and Hg. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient were -0.714069, -0.773122, and -0.62234, indicating the significant downward trend from 2015 to 2018. However, the children's comprehensive carcinogenic risk, whose average value was 0.000234 much more than 10-4, had significant upward trend in 2018 with Spearman rank correlation coefficient 0.902098. The ARIMA(3,1,3) model was able to predict the comprehensive carcinogenic risk for children from heavy metals in drinking water, and the result indicated the children comprehensive carcinogenic risk should be monitored to ensure levels between 0.000200 and 0.000302. The study has positive significance for risk warning and environmental management compared to the analysis and prediction of health risk from heavy metals in drinking water sources based on time series models.

RESUMO

An europium functionalized metal-organic fluorescent probe, Eu3+@UiO-66-FDC was constructed by post-synthetic modification through coordination interactions. Eu3+@UiO-66-FDC displayed high selectivity and sensitivity toward Tryptophan (Trp) among all the 20 natural amino acids and other general compounds in food and biological samples, with a wide linear concentration range (0-1000 µM), low detection limit (0.29 µM), and a rapid response (<1 min). Besides, this probe was utilized to detect Trp in rabbit blood serum and milk samples with good recoveries, which were verified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Notably, this fluorescent probe proved to be a recyclable material. Hence, this work provides a reliable and recyclable fluorescent probe applicable toward the detection of Trp in biological fluids and/or food products.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This research was designed to probe into the expression and related mechanism of lncRNA NR2F1-AS1 and H19 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Forty-two HCC patients who came to our hospital from February 2018 to August 2019 were included into a research group (RG). Meanwhile, 46 healthy controls were regarded as a control group (CG). BEL-7402, Huh-7 human hepatoma cells and HL-7702 human normal liver cells were purchased, and the NR2F1-AS1 and H19 levels in serum and tissues of HCC patients were detected. PcDNA3.1-NR2F1-AS1, si-NR2F1-AS1, NC, pcDNA3.1-H19 and si-H19 were transfected into BEL-7402 and Huh-7 cells. The NR2F1-AS1 and H19 levels in samples were detected via qRT-PCR, and the expression of apoptosis-related proteins in cells was tested through WB. Cell proliferation, invasion, or apoptosis was detected by CCK8, Transwell or flow cytometry, respectively. RESULTS: The NR2F1-AS1 and H19 levels were high in human hepatoma cells, and AUCs of lncRNA NR2F1-AS1 and lncRNA H19 were both >0.8. The lncRNA NR2F1-AS1 and lncRNA H19 were associated with HCC staging. After transfection of pcDNA3.1-NR2F1-AS1, si-NR2F1-AS1, NC, pcDNA3.1-H19, si-H19 BEL-7402 and Huh-7 cells, silencing NR2F1-AS1 and H19 expression can promote apoptosis and inhibit cell growth, while silencing their over-expression can inhibit the EMT process of Huh-7 cells. CONCLUSION: lncRNA NR2F1-AS1 and lncRNA H19 genes are abnormally expressed in HCC. Furthermore, the two can suppress the EMT process of Huh-7 cells and promote apoptosis effectively.

RESUMO

Hydrazine (N2H4) and ClO- are very harmful for public health, hence it is important and necessary to monitor them in living cells. Herein, we rationally designed and synthesized a dual-analytes responsive fluorescent sensor PTMQ for distinguishing detection of N2H4 and ClO-. PTMQ underwent N2H4-induced double bond cleavage, affording colorimetric and green fluorescence enhancement with good selectivity and a low detection limit (89nM). On the other hand, PTMQ underwent ClO--induced sulfur oxidation and displayed red fluorescence lighting-up response towards ClO- with good selectivity, rapid response (<0.2min) and a low detection limit (58nM). Moreover, PTMQ was successfully employed for in-situ imaging of N2H4 and ClO- in living cells.

RESUMO

Thiabendazole (TBZ), has been extensively employed as a pesticide and/or a fungicide in agriculture, while its residues would threaten to public health and safety. Simple, rapid and sensitive probes for detection of TBZ in real food samples is significantly desirable. In present work, a highly selective and sensitive luminescent sensor for monitoring TBZ in oranges has been constructed based on a Tb3+-functionalized Zr-MOF (Tb3+@1). Tb3+@1 exhibited many attractive sensing properties toward TBZ, including broad linear range (0-80 µM), high selectivity, low LOD (0.271 µM) and rapid response time (less than1 min). Moreover, the probe was employed to determine TBZ in real orange samples, in which good recoveries from 98.41 to 104.48% were obtained. It only takes 35 min for the whole process of detection TBZ in real orange samples combined with QuEChERS method. Therefore, this work provided a reliable and rapid method for monitoring the TBZ in real orange samples.

RESUMO

As a typical representative of heat-clearing and detoxifying prescriptions, Huanglian Jiedutang (HJT) has various pharmacological activities and is widely used in clinical practice. The articles concerning the effect and clinical application of HJT published in recent years were retrieved from such databases as China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and PubMed to figure out HJT efficacy, especially in anti-inflammation, the corresponding action pathways, and its clinical application. It was found that the anti-inflammatory effect mainly resulted from HJT regulation of multiple pathways including interleukin-17 (IL-17) signaling pathway, tumor necrosis factor (TNF) signaling pathway, Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling pathway, and neutrophil chemotaxis. The inflammatory cytokines in the serum were reduced via these pathways and thus the inflammation was inhibited. Because of its unique anti-inflammatory advantage, HJT has been widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, digestive system diseases, skin inflammation, sepsis, and other infectious diseases. In view of this, the paper reviewed the anti-inflammatory effect and clinical application of HJT, aiming to provide a reference for further research.
