RESUMO

AIM: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is taken into account as one among the effective measures for caries arrest and prevention in youngsters, due to the fact it proffers marginally invasive but cost-effective alternative to time-commemorated restorative caries control. The study was carried out to appraise the effectiveness of SDF (38%) in arresting active carious lesions and to gauge parental perception toward the treatment of cavities with SDF in the primary teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 36 children in the age range 2-10 years, having active caries lésions, based on ICDAS criteria, in primary teeth were selected following the baseline examination. After four dropouts and refusal by two patients, 30 patients were treated with 1-2 topical applications of SDF (38%). Lesions were reassessed at 1 week and 3 months taking into account to assess the color and amend inconsistency (soft/hard). Parents have been mentioned regarding features of pain or infection and have been surveyed with regard to subjective feelings regarding SDF. RESULTS: Quantitative variables have been subjected to the Chi-square test. All the 30 participants within the present study at baseline were reported to possess active caries lesion. About 80% of carious lesions were found to be arrested at first recall and 93.3% after 3 months. No occurrence of pain or infection was documented. Parental perception for simple application, taste, and esthetics became statistically significant. Conclusion: Study outcomes endorse SDF to be effective in preventing active carious lesions in deciduous dentition in youngsters, and treatment outcomes were affirmative by the parents. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: SDF has been a possible management option for a noninvasive remedy to inhibit active carious lesions in deciduous dentition without causing any psychological trauma to children. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The impact of early childhood caries (ECC) seen in infants and young children to the society is enormous. Most studies on ECC have been focused on specific ethnic and lower socioeconomic communities, however fewer studies are conducted in India as compared to other developed countries. AIMS: The study investigates the association between selected feeding practices and the presence of early ECC among 3-5 year-old children of Indore city. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional sample consisted of 640 preschool children of different socioeconomic status (SES). A self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain information about demographic backgrounds and feeding history of the child. The caries experience of children was recorded. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: The data were evaluated using Chi-square and multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS: The prevalence of ECC was found to be 64%. ECC was found to be significantly associated with age, SES, breastfeeding for more than 1 year, bottle feeding, bottle content used other than water, feeding at night, and cup drinking after 1 year. CONCLUSION: The present study indicates that ECC and feeding habits have a significant relationship. The content of the bottle feed and feeding practices at night are the strongest factors among all feeding habits associated with ECC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Proper positioning of the child patient, can not only have positive ramifications for the operator's posture, comfort, and career longevity - it can also lead to better treatment and increased productivity. The aim of the survey questionnaire was to assess the utilization, need, and attitude concerning dental chairs among pediatric dentist while working on and managing the child patient. STUDY DESIGN: The questions were structured using adobe forms central online software, regarding the user-friendliness of pediatric dental chair vs. traditional adult dental chair available in the market. RESULTS: Our result shows that out of 337 respondents, 79% worked on pediatric dental chair, whereas 21% had no experience of it. Of these 79% pediatric dentist, 48% preferred pediatric dental chair. But pediatric dental problem still has certain disadvantages like higher cost, leg space problem, lower availability, etc. CONCLUSION: During the research it was found that ergonomics and usability issues were the main problems. Thus, pediatric dental chair is not so popular in the current scenario. This study allowed for general ideas for the improvement of dental chairs and thus improved dental chair would fill the gap in the current scenario.

RESUMO

The odd attracts society in odd manner, as is the case when a patient with discolored tooth smiles. Because of that, pediatric patients have psychological impact. Trauma and pulpal necrosis are the most common causes for discoloration of teeth. If tooth is intact, intra-coronal bleaching is the most conservative and noninvasive treatment modality provided, it is done cautiously. This article intends to present two case-reports of successful intra-coronal bleaching using milder (sodium perborate) and tissue-friendly bleaching agent with walking bleach.
