RESUMO

Sixty-two children with Down's syndrome and twenty-five healthy children, aged 3 months to 10 years, were studied. It was found that the hematocrit values and concentrations of hemoglobin in Down's syndrome were insignificantly higher than in healthy children, while their leukocyte count was slightly lower. The leukocyte distribution patterns in children with Down's syndrome, aged 3 months to 3 years, were similar to those in healthy children. However, children aged 3.5-10 years with Down's syndrome had a slightly higher percentage of neutrophiles and a significantly lower percentage of lymphocytes. The percentage of E-rosette-forming cells and count of T-lymphocyte forming these rosettes in Down's syndrome were significantly lower than in healthy children.

RESUMO

In 15 patients with chronic renal failure, the effect was studied of haemodialysis using cuprophan and polysulfone dialyzers on rosette tests, and the concentrations of immunoglobulins and C3c and C4 complement components in peripheral blood. It was found that the per cent of E and EAC rosettes decreases within 30 minutes of the procedure, IgG, IgA and IgM levels increase after 120 minutes of the procedure, while the concentrations of C3c and C4 components are not changing significantly during haemodialysis using both types of the dialyzers. The authors found that the polysulfone membrane seemed not to be more biocompatible than the cuprophan one.

RESUMO

Three cases are presented of hereditary spherocytosis that occurred in one family. In one of those cases the presence of monoclonal IgG lambda protein was stated. This protein's level has not increased for 8 year of observation. The latest pathogenetic theories of hereditary spherocytosis are presented as well as the possibility of its coexistence with other diseases.

RESUMO

In 10 patients with chronic renal failure treated with haemodialyses (HD) T and B cell populations were determined in peripheral blood, together with immunoglobulin concentration and NBT test in the first two hours of the procedure using cuprophan and cellulose acetate dialysers. It was found that the per cent proportions of T4, T8 and T11 were not significantly changed. The proportions of B cells with sIg, sIgG, sIgM, sIgA were not significantly altered during HD with cuprophan dialysers. The per cent of B cells with sIg, sIgG decreased significantly during HD with cellulose acetate dialysers. The per cent proportions of active and late E rosettes decreased significantly, the per cent of stable E rosettes rose significantly, while that of EAC rosettes was not significantly changed in the initial HD period with the use of both dialyser types. IgG concentration rose significantly in the initial period of HD with either dialyser, while there was no significant change in the concentration of IgA and IgM. The value of the NBT test was not altered significantly during HD with either dialyser type.

RESUMO

In ten patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) serum concentrations of alpha 1-acid glycoprotein, alpha 1-antitrypsin, prealbumin, hemopexin, transferrin, haptoglobin, C3c and C4 complement components, ceruloplasmin, alpha 2-macroglobulin were determined using Partigen plates before, 30 min. and 2 hours after beginning of HD. Serum concentrations of C3c complement component, prealbumin increased significantly during HD using CU dialyser, but changes during HD using CA dialyser were not significant. Serum concentrations of alpha 1-antitrypsin, hemopexin increased significantly after two hours of HD using CA dialyser, but changes during HD using CU dialyser were again not significant. Serum concentrations of alpha 1-acid glycoprotein, transferrin, haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin, C4 complement component during HD using both dialyzers did not change significantly. Serum concentration of alpha 2-macroglobulin was higher after two hours of HD. The type of dialysis membrane has important influence on changes of serum acute phase proteins during the initial period of HD.

RESUMO

In 25 patients with duodenal ulcer, before treatment and after three weeks, and another 30 days of treatment with ranitidine, plasma concentrations were determined of IgA, IgG, IgM immunoglobulins, and of 10 other proteins. In comparison to the control group of 20 persons, a statistically significant decrease was found in the concentration of alpha 2-M, prealbumins, and IgG, as well as a significant increase of alpha 1-AT, C4 complement component, and a non-significant increase of coeruloplasmin, haptoglobin and IgM. During the treatment a tendency was observed for an increase of IgG and IgM level, as well as a statistically significant decrease of alpha 1-AT, C4, and coeruloplasmin concentration. The treatment exerted no effect on the decreased level of alpha 2-M. It was accepted that the tendency for an increase of IgG and IgM level was due, most probably, to the immunostimulating action of ranitidine, and the changes of concentrations of other parameters induced by the treatment were related to the presence and healing of the ulceration. The observed decrease of alpha 2-M level was probably due to binding of alpha 2-M to pepsinogen whose blood level was increased during gastric ulcer.

RESUMO

In 25 patients with chronic renal failure, treated with haemodialysis (13 patients with chronic non-A, non-B hepatitis, and 12 cases without evidence of hepatocellular damage), and in 20 healthy persons, blood serum concentrations were determined of prealbumin, ceruloplasmin, alpha 2-macroglobulin, and haptoglobin. It was found that the concentrations of these proteins in both subgroups of patients were not significantly different. The concentration of prealbumin was higher, and that of alpha 2-macroglobulin and haptoglobin was significantly lower in comparison with healthy subjects.

RESUMO

Forty-three children were studied, aged 3 months to 10 years, with Down syndrome confirmed by karyotype studies. A statistically significantly decreased percent was found in them of "E" rosette-forming T lymphocytes. The percent of "EAC" rosette-forming B lymphocytes was normal. The concentration of IgG, IgA, and IgM immunoglobulins was about normal for age.

RESUMO

In the serum of 41 children with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) the concentration was determined of 10 proteins by the radial immunodiffusion method. It was found that the concentration of prealbumin and alpha 2-macroglobulin was lower than in healthy children. The concentration of acid alpha 1-glycoprotein, alpha 1-antitrypsin, haptoglobin, C4 complement component, and hemopexin was higher than in healthy children. The concentration of ceruloplasmin, C3 complement component, and transferrin was similar as in healthy children.

RESUMO

In 24 patients with terminal renal failure the concentrations were determined of beta 2-microglobulin, prealbumin, alpha 1-antitrypsin, ceruloplasmin, alpha 2-macroglobulin, antithrombin III, plasminogen, transferrin, C3c and Cr complement components in the serum before and after haemodialysis. A statistically significant rise of concentrations of these proteins was found. It is thought that this rise was due mainly to haemoconcentration, while the contact with dialysing membranes is less important.

RESUMO

The complement C3 and C4 components concentration has been determined in 18 patients with monoclonal protein IgA and in 18 others with monoclonal protein IgG. It has been stated that the concentration of the complement component C3 has moderately been elevated if compared with that in the control group. This elevation has been more significant in the group of patients with monoclonal protein of the lambda type. The concentration of the complement component C4 has statistically significantly been elevated in patients with monoclonal protein IgA and significantly diminished in those with monoclonal protein IgG.

RESUMO

Thirty-five patients with chronic renal failure treated with repeated haemodialyses were divided into 3 groups: without evidence of hepatocellular damage (n = 11), with HBs-negative hepatocellular damage (n = 13), with HBS-positive, HBe-positive hepatocellular damage (n = 10). The concentrations of acid alpha 1-glycoprotein, haptoglobin, C3c complement component, IgG, IgA, IgM were determined in the serum before haemodialysis. The serum concentration of acid alpha 1-glycoprotein was statistically significantly higher in the patients in comparison with the healthy subjects. The concentrations of haptoglobin and C3c complement component in the serum were not statistically significantly different form those in healthy controls. The serum levels of IgG, IgA and IgM in patients with hepatocellular damage HBs-positive and HBe-positive were statistically significantly higher in relation to healthy subjects, the serum IgG level in this group was statistically significantly higher than in the group without hepatocellular damage and the group with HBs-negative hepatocellular damage.
