RESUMO

PURPOSE: The objective of this randomized controlled study is to analyze the effect of nine-session psychoeducation on anger and stress coping abilities of individuals who are individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders. DESIGN AND METHODS: The single-blind research method was used in the experimental study in the pretest - posttest order. The study was conducted in the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Research, Treatment and Education Center (AMATEM) of a Training and Research Hospital, between July 1st and October 30th of 2021, with 61 patients (30 in experimental group, 31 in control group). The data was collected with Sociodemographic Information Form, Ways of Coping with Stress Scale (WCSI), and Trait Anger - Anger Expression Style Scale (STAI). The data was analyzed using mean, percentage distribution, standard deviation, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon test, Fisher-Exact test or "Pearson-χ2" and "Spearman" correlation coefficient. RESULTS: The age average of the experimental group is 33.48±9.28 and control group is 34.03±8.49.A statistically significant difference was detected in the experimental group in terms of pretest and posttest scores of WCSI and STAI subscales (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Psychoeducation program is observed to be effective in coping with stress and providing anger control in in-patients with the objective of this randomized controlled study is to analyze the effect of nine-session psychoeducation on anger and stress coping abilities of individuals who are individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: The psychiatric nurse should ensure the continuation of the psychoeducation program for the objective of this randomized controlled study is to analyze the effect of nine-session psychoeducation on anger and stress coping abilities of individuals who are individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders.

BACKGROUND: Nursing students' professional perceptions are affected by the environment they live in. Nursing students think that the nursing profession is important during the pandemic. PURPOSE: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the nursing students' professional image perceptions and the affecting factors during the Covid-19 pandemic in Turkey. METHODS: The research population consisted of all nursing students (N = 750) of two universities in Turkey. The research data were collected using a personal information form and the Scale for the Image of Nursing Profession (SINP). RESULTS: Of the students, 76.4% were not infected with Covid-19, 30.8% had an individual in their family infected with Covid-19; 34% had an immediate family member who died of Covid-19; 99.4% thought that the nursing profession is important during the Covid-19 pandemic. A statistically significant difference was found between the place where the students live and the SINP (p < .05). CONCLUSION: The students' image perceptions toward the nursing profession were found to be at a good level. This indicates that image perception toward nursing profession has increased during the pandemic. It can be said that the place where the students are in the pandemic process and their thoughts about the nursing profession affect their professional image perceptions.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to determine the effects of 4-year nursing education on self-esteem and emotional intelligence levels of nursing students. DESIGN AND METHODS: This descriptive longitudinal study was conducted with 73 nursing students between 2014 and 2018 at a foundation university in Istanbul. FINDINGS: The nursing students' self-esteem and emotional intelligence levels increased at the end of the 4-year nursing education. Nursing students' self-esteem scores measured in the 2nd and 4th years, their emotional intelligence scores measured in the 3rd, 1st years, and 4th years were statistically significantly higher. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: In the light of these results, in addition to the routine educational content, it is recommended that the courses related to self-esteem and emotional intelligence be added to the curriculum or trainings should be organized.

BACKGROUND: Positive effects of auditory stimulations are common in symptom management. However, the effect of self-affirmations on symptom management is not well known. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of self-affirmations and nature sounds on chemotherapy-related symptoms. METHODS: This randomized, controlled experimental study was conducted with 140 patients receiving chemotherapy. The first experimental group listened to affirmations, the second listened to nature sounds, and the third listened to both. FINDINGS: In the affirmation group, pain, tiredness, drowsiness, lack of appetite, depression, anxiety, and lack of well-being scores were lower. In the affirmation and nature sounds group, drowsiness, depression, anxiety, and lack of well-being scores were reduced. In the nature sounds group, tiredness, drowsiness, and lack of well-being scores were reduced. In the control group, tiredness, drowsiness, nausea, and lack of well-being scores were higher.

BACKGROUND: The nurse education program affects many aspects of personal development. Nursing students gain skills in critical thinking and analysis and also develop communication and management skills. The four-year program may also have an effect on students' assertiveness and self-esteem. OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to determine the impact of the four-year higher nursing school educational program on students' self-esteem and assertiveness. DESIGN: Descriptive longitudinal design. SETTING: The study took place at a Foundation University in Istanbul, Turkey over the period 2006-2010. The students' levels of self-esteem and assertiveness were assessed at the beginning and end of the first, second, third and fourth years of the program.

OBJECTIVE: The study was performed in order to determine the behavior of college students studying in health related departments for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study is a cross sectional study. 336 female students studying in School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences at a foundation university in Istanbul were included. A questionnaire directed to collect data regarding the participants' socio-demographic characteristics and their behavior on the early diagnosis of breast cancer was used. Data were evaluated by descriptive statistics and chi-square test. RESULTS: The mean age of students was 21.26±1.94, and 30.7% of the participants majored in nutrition, 29.2% in nursing, 22.9% in midwifery, 17.3% in physical therapy and rehabilitation departments. It was determined that 53.3% of the students made regular breast self-examination (BSE), and 88.1% did not get a clinical breast examination (CBE) within the last year. It was noticed that students who had BSE training, made more BSE and CBE as compared to those who did not get any education. Students with family history of breast cancer was performing more BSE that those without a family history. It was identified that students with BSE training and family history of breast cancer used BSE at a higher rate. CONCLUSION: It was identified that students with BSE training and family history of breast cancer usage of techniques to perform a BSE at a higher rate.
