RESUMO

Concentrations of serotonin, beta-endorphine, myoglobin, basic myelin protein were measured in blood of patients with tunnel hand syndromes treated by actovegin or physiological solution pharmacopuncture and acupuncture to the same acupuncture points (AP). The above biochemical indices showed similar changes in pharmacopuncture with actovegin and the solution. These changes were different in acupuncture. This indicates specificity of AP stimulation by introduction of fluid, but not specificity of drug effects.

RESUMO

Scalp acupuncture effects on blood biochemistry were investigated in 10 healthy volunteers. The results provided evidence for the absence of negative changes in function of neurohumoral systems of the body which may become factors of risk for patients with thrombogenic disturbances of cerebral circulation.

RESUMO

Ofloxacin was used in the treatment of 124 patients with bronchopulmonary diseases, the diseases of the biliary system and other infectious inflammatory diseases of the internal organs. The microbiological and pharmacokinetic indices as well as the immune status were investigated. The drug proved to be efficient in the treatment of 78.9 per cent of the cases. The pharmacokinetic indices were evident of the fact that the treatment of severe cases should be started with the drug intravenous administration. Ofloxacin had no negative effects on the immune status.

RESUMO

One hundred and eight patients with gastric ulcer subjected to planned and urgent surgery have been treated for postoperative gastric atonia and intestinal paresis using electroacupuncture stimulation (EAPS). The treatment was effective in 85% of cases, with the efficacy confirmed by clinical results and gastroenterologic findings. EAPS promoted a decrease in the initially high blood levels of cortisol, aldosterone and histamine, an increase in serotonin and a reduction in gastric juice histamine levels, which were indicative of the analgetic and antihistamine EAPS effect and attenuation of parasympathetic activity. EAPS introduction into a complex of postoperative rehabilitation procedures led to reduction of drug doses or total drug replacement, early activation of surgical patients and prompt recovery of normal gastrointestinal evacuation.

RESUMO

The time course of LH, FSH, prolactin, estradiol, hydrocortisone, insulin and catecholamine levels in the blood was followed up in 62 patients of a reproductive age after surgical switch-off of the ovaries. Reflex therapy (electroacupuncture, acupuncture, other types of reflex therapy) included in the complex of postoperative treatment was conductive to the maintenance of a favorable level of hormones contributing to compensatory defense reactions to surgical stress and total ovariectomy.

RESUMO

Effects of reflex analgesia on the activity of the sympathetic-adrenal system (SAS) were examined in pregnant females with an abnormal preliminary period. The status of SAS was judged by the results of urinary epinephrine and norepinephrine excretion tests. A session of reflex analgesia performed by electric acupuncture (3-30 Hz) in the pregnant women with an abnormal preliminary period and relative readiness of the generative passage for labor led to activation of SAS and childbirth induction. A session of combined exposure to electric acupuncture (3-7 Hz) and transcutaneous electric neurostimulation (60-80 Hz) in the pregnant women with a more prolonged preliminary period and unreadiness of the maternal passage for labor caused a decrease in SAS activity, which was followed by a therapeutic rest.

RESUMO

The activity of antinociceptive mechanisms of auricular electroacupuncture (AEA) and footshock (FS) was studied on rats with bilaterally lesioned group A5 neurones. It was shown that the activity of the antinociceptive mechanisms triggered in experimental rats as compared to control rats. The data reveal the involvement of A5-nuclei in the antinociceptive mechanisms of AEA and FS.

RESUMO

The activity of antinociceptive mechanisms in cold stress and under the effect of morphine was studied in experiments on rats subjected to bilateral destruction of group A5 neurons. In cold stress in rats of the experimental and control groups the latent periods (LP) of pain reactions of limb licking differed significantly, both in initial values and between the groups; in contrast, the LP of the tail-flick reaction did not differ significantly. Under the effect of morphine the pain reactions increased authentically as compared to the initial values both in the experimental and the control groups, but there were no significant differences between the groups. Thus, group A5 noradrenergic neurons have an effect on inhibiting some pain reaction components in cold stress, but are of no importance in the mechanisms of antinociceptive actions under the effect of morphine.

RESUMO

The results of clinico-psychological examination of 121 patients have demonstrated that acupuncture is a fairly effective method of treating asthenic states in neurotic patients. Thus, considerable improvement and improvement has been observed in 67% of the patients. The absence of positive effect in the remaining cases is explained by an aggravated history, a stubborn course of the disease, and depletion of the functional activity of the sympathoadrenal system (SAS) and the adrenal cortex. Normalization of EEG rhythm is effected through activation of the synchronizing and inactivation of the desynchronizing cerebral systems; the positive dynamics of the structure of nocturnal sleep is reflected in an increased duration of slow sleep and rapid sleep which were initially reduced, in more regular alternation of the cycles and phases of sleep, and in a shorter period of falling asleep. Biochemical examinations have revealed activation of the mediatory component of the SAS and elevation of the function of the adrenal cortex, while baroalgesimetric studies have shown that acupuncture is characterized by antinociceptive and activizing effects. On the whole the efficacy of acupuncture in controlling asthenic conditions related to neuroses is due to its integral action.

RESUMO

The status of the serotoninergic and catecholaminergic systems was studied in patients with neurotic depressive disorders before and after acupuncture (AP). The parameters studied included blood serotonin levels, monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity in the blood serum, as well as urinary excretion of adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine, DOPA and 5-HOIAA. Prior to AP patients with anxiety-depressive, depressive-hypochondriac or asthenodepressive manifestations showed different changes in the parameters studied. Following a course of AP they presented a compensatory increase in MAO activity, normalization of blood serotonin levels and of the urinary excretion of noradrenaline, dopamine and DOPA. Improvement in biochemical parameters indicates that this type of therapy is an effective means of the treatment of patients with neuroses with the predominance of depressive disorders.

RESUMO

Activity of sympathoadrenal system in patients with infectious-allergic bronchial asthma treated with reflexotherapy by monitoring alterations in spontaneous and L-DOPA stimulated daily excretion of adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine and L-DOPA with urine. Before and after the reflexotherapy course spontaneous excretion of catecholamines and L-DOPA with urine was found to be similar to the physiologically normal level. The test with per oral administration of 250 mg of L-DOPA showed that before the reflexotherapy the course of consumption of L-DOPA was impaired and, hence, the functional state of sympathoadrenal system was altered. The reflexotherapy improved the L-DOPA consumption suggesting normalization of catecholamine metabolism. The data obtained suggest that normalization of sympathoadrenal system activity is one of important effects of the acupuncture therapy.
