RESUMO

The results of the study of sodium succinate efficacy in the treatment of 60 patients with ischemic stroke in comparison to the control group, not receiving antioxidants, are presented. The best results of sodium succinate were achieved in regress of local and general brain symptoms. The authors emphasize a possibility of the treatment at home and in outpatient clinic as well as cheaper price of sodium succinate versus other succinates.

RESUMO

The results of the treatment of 90 patients with dyscirculatory encephalopathy (DE): atherosclerotic, hypertonic and venous are summarized. Inclusion of autologous ultraviolet radiation of the blood into multimodality therapy appreciably raised its efficacy, enabling the attainment of beneficial results in patients treated before unsuccessfully by conventional methods together with the prolongation of the time of remissions. It is recommended that the method under consideration be included into multimodality treatment of DE patients.

RESUMO

Activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase, glyceraldehyde phosphatedehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase implicated in the process of hemoglobin oxygenation were studied and compared in 40 patients with ischemic and in 30 patients with hemorrhagic brain strokes in the most acute disease period (days 1-2). A well-defined relationship was revealed between the brain stroke pattern and enzymatic activity which is likely to be determined by varying degree of body adaptation under hypoxia developing in ischemic and hemorrhagic brain strokes. It is assumed that the clinico-enzymatic correlations discovered might be employed as additional criteria in the differential diagnosis of the brain stroke pattern.

RESUMO

In 120 rats with acute intracranial venous congestion the authors investigated the influence of some vasoactive drugs on compensatory-adaptive processes in the brain. They studied reactions of the nerve cells, pericellular and perivascular edema, and vessels to the administration of cavinton, trental, xanthinol nicotinate, troxevasin, and euphyllin. It has been demonstrated that vasoactive drugs have a varying influence on the compensatory processes in the brain. Thus, cavinton and trental significantly improve the venous outflow from the cranial cavity, sharply reduce cerebral edema, and stimulate reparative processes. Xanthinol nicotinate deteriorates compensatory-adaptive reactions, troxevasin exerts a favourable effect at an early stage, euphyllin acts in a biphasic mode.

RESUMO

The authors conducted rheographic and opthalmoretinal studies of 85 patients with cerebral venous dystonias and of 20 control patients using functional loads (-30 degrees head-down tilt). In the control subjects the diastolic pressure in the central retinal vein (CRV) in head-down tilt test was 10.1 +/- 0.3 mm Hg, showing no significant difference from the initial level (9.0 +/- 0.4 mm Hg), p greater than 0.05. The patients with cerebral venous dystonias presented a significant increase in the diastolic pressure in the CRV by 4.9 +/- 0.2 mm Hg, p less than 0.001, which is indicative of a compromised intracranial venous pressure.
