RESUMO

A knowledge of time parameters of the high mental functions of the brain under normal and pathological conditions may serve as a key to understanding of their intimate mechanisms. During the first stage of the study a set of different tests including "word association", "paired words learning" was used to compare these indices in patients with atherosclerotic discirculatory encephalopathy and in normal individuals. The dynamics and volume of the short-term memory and processes of attention were evaluated. An increase of the response latencies in the paired words' tests and a decrease of both volume of short-term memory and the processes of attention were identified. Application of the tests with semantically similar or unlike words was informative.

RESUMO

Temporary compression of spinal cord was modelled in anesthetized cats. The degree of spinal disfunction was estimated by component analysis of far-field somatosensory EPs which were recorded along vertebral column and scalp. Even a weak and short-term compression of spinal cord's dorsal columns changed biopotentials' latencies, amplitudes and interpeak intervals. Usefulness of correlative analysis of interpeak intervals as an additional way of differential evaluation of spinal pathways conductivity, was shown.

RESUMO

In the limbic part of the rat neocortex, afferents from the retino-geniculo-cortical and retino-tecto-thalamo-cortical visual subsystems converge to the area 29. A specific feature of the area 29 responses to stimulation of thalamic visual nuclei (the LGB and the postero-lateral nucleus) involves gradualness of their appearance during rhythmic stimulation. The responses have an initial negative phase, are resistant against nembutal, have a short and stable latency, their neuronal reaction being phasic in nature and showing dependence on physical parameters of stimulation. These intermediate type reactions possess features of both specific and unspecific responses of the neocortex which seems to be characteristic of the area 29 function.

RESUMO

Visual inputs to field 29 of the limbic retrosplenial cortex have been studied by means of paired stimuli, i.e. photic and electrical stimulation of the anterodorsal nucleus (ADN). During stimulation of this nucleus, the evoked potentials in the field 29 decreased in the initial phase of visual stimulation, indicating the involvement of the ADN into the visual system. This finding confirms earlier morphological data [2]. Besides this, in the field 29 neurones were found which responded to light but not to ADN stimulation, suggesting the possibility of termination of different visual inputs on the neurones of the limbic cortex.

RESUMO

In white anesthetized rats electric stimulation of n. anterodorsalis and light stimulation evoked potentials in the retrosplenial cortex, field 29. The EPs were surface-negative, multicomponent, their latency at the n. anterodorsalis stimulation being 5.1 +/- 0.6 (with a range of 2-7) msec, at the light stimulation -- 21 +/- 1.7 (with range of 15-30) msec. The EPs in the field 29 at low-frequency rhythmic light stimulation and at n. anterodorsalis stimulation (1-5/sec) revealed the phenomenon of habituation and driving. The layer analysis of the light EPs showed reversal of polarity in the upper part of layer V of the cortex, while after n. anterodorsalis stimulation the reversal of polarity occurred beneath the layer VI. The possibility of existence of several thalamis visual inputs in the field 29, is discussed.
