RESUMO

We evaluate species, species group, and generic concepts for Ophiderini and Phyllodini (Lepidoptera: Calpinae) with a cladistic analysis of COI 5 mitochondrial DNA sequences. Species recognized by current taxonomy formed monophyletic clades with three exceptions: Eudocima phalonia (L.), E. cocalus (Cramer) and E. hypermnestra (Cramer). Eudocima phalonia formed two allopatric clades, an African clade sister to E. lequeuxi Brou Zilli, and another clade sister to E. euryzona (Hampson). Each of these four clades comprises a separate taxon diagnosable by unique combinations of discrete genitalic characters, and the African clade previously lumped under E. phalonia is described herein as E. afrikana sp. n. Eudocima cocalus and E. hypermnestra phenotypes overlap in COI 5 haplotypes. Eleven Eudocima species groups delimited from morphology are independently supported as monophyletic with the molecular analysis. Unique combinations of COI 5 characters diagnosing species and species groups are provided. Eudocima is largely supported as monophyletic, except E. formosa is excluded from the Eudocima clade, and Graphigona regina, Tetrisia florigera, and Ferenta stolliana are embedded within it. Structural morphology of E. formosa also suggests it does not belong in Eudocima. Adult images are shown for most species of Ophiderini, including many DNA sequence vouchers, and their diagnoses and general distributions are provided.

RESUMO

A wide range of metals exhibit anomalous electrical and thermodynamic properties when tuned to a quantum critical point (QCP), although the origins of such strange metals have posed a long-standing mystery. The frequent association of strange metals with unconventional superconductivity and antiferromagnetic QCPs1-4 has led to the belief that they are highly entangled quantum states5. By contrast, ferromagnets are regarded as an unlikely setting for strange metals, because they are weakly entangled and their QCPs are often interrupted by competing phases or first-order phase transitions6-8. Here we provide evidence that the pure ferromagnetic Kondo lattice9,10 CeRh6Ge4 becomes a strange metal at a pressure-induced QCP. Measurements of the specific heat and resistivity under pressure demonstrate that the ferromagnetic transition is continuously suppressed to zero temperature, revealing a strange-metal behaviour around the QCP. We argue that strong magnetic anisotropy has a key role in this process, injecting entanglement in the form of triplet resonating valence bonds into the ordered ferromagnet. We show that a singular transformation in the patterns of the entanglement between local moments and conduction electrons, from triplet resonating valence bonds to Kondo-entangled singlet pairs at the QCP, causes a jump in the Fermi surface volume-a key driver of strange-metallic behaviour. Our results open up a direction for research into ferromagnetic quantum criticality and establish an alternative setting for the strange-metal phenomenon. Most importantly, strange-metal behaviour at a ferromagnetic QCP suggests that quantum entanglement-not the destruction of antiferromagnetism-is the common driver of the varied behaviours of strange metals.

RESUMO

The Asian Catocala naganoi species group is delimited and reviewed, with a diagnosis of the constituent species based on genitalic, wing pattern, and COI 5' mtDNA characters. The included species are Catocala naganoi Sugi, 1982, C. solntsevi Sviridov, 1997, C. naumanni Sviridov, 1996, and C. katsumii sp. n. which is described here as new.

RESUMO

Catocala becheri Borth, Kons & Saldaitis, 2017 was recently described from Central Vietnam. It is a member of a morphologically well-defined group including Catocala intacta Leech, 1889 and Catocala hoferi Ishizuka & Ohshima, 2003 which both differ from C. becheri in wing pattern and male genitalia. (Borth et al. 2017). Recent collecting has provided additional specimens, including the first female C. becheri, described below.

RESUMO

The taxonomy of the Catocala nupta (L.), 1757 complex is analyzed using corresponding characters of the male genitalia, wing pattern, and COI 5' mitochondrial DNA, and is presently found to contain only two additional species: Catocala concubia Walker, [1858], and a new species Catocala benedeki described herein. Three new lectotypes are designated, and 12 status changes for existing names are introduced (10 new synonyms, 2 revised statuses).

RESUMO

A new species, Catocala nilssoni, sp. n., from the Liaoning and Shandong Provinces of northeast China is described. The new species clearly differs in wing pattern and genitalia from any other Catocala species. DNA results for one specimen of the new species further confirms its morphological exclusivity. Actual Catocala danilovi (O. Bang-Haas, 1927) male genitalia is pictured for the first time and the taxonomical status of the related Catocala florianii Saldaitis & Ivinskis, 2008 is discussed.

RESUMO

Here we describe Catocala didenko sp. n. as new for the noctuid genus Catocala Shrank, differing from Catocala duplicata Butler, 1885 and Catocala gansan Ishizuka & Wang, 2013 on wing pattern, male genitalia, and COI 5' mitochondrial DNA. These three species, along with Catocala dissimilis Bremer, 1861, comprise a small and distinctive species group within the genus. Exemplary uncommon morphological characters for this group include: extensive area of ventral side of claspers unsclerotized (Fig. 17); claspers with a subapical ventral bulging projection (Fig. 17); sclerotized apex of claspers greatly expanded laterally (Fig. 17); diaphragma posterior to anellus lightly pigmented (Fig. 22); distinctive anellus shape (Fig. 22); uncus setae longest and densest at base (Fig. 21); and approximately 17-20 coils on the receptacle duct (Fig. 56).

RESUMO

Unconventional superconductivity and other previously unknown phases of matter exist in the vicinity of a quantum critical point (QCP): a continuous phase change of matter at absolute zero. Intensive theoretical and experimental investigations on itinerant systems have shown that metallic ferromagnets tend to develop via either a first-order phase transition or through the formation of intermediate superconducting or inhomogeneous magnetic phases. Here, through precision low-temperature measurements, we show that the Grüneisen ratio of the heavy fermion metallic ferromagnet YbNi(4)(P(0.92)As(0.08))(2) diverges upon cooling to T = 0, indicating a ferromagnetic QCP. Our observation that this kind of instability, which is forbidden in d-electron metals, occurs in a heavy fermion system will have a large impact on the studies of quantum critical materials.

RESUMO

The faunistic composition of the family Cossidae (Lepidoptera) of the Socotra Archipelago is revised. Five species are recognized, including two new species (Mormogystia brandstetteri and Meharia hackeri), and dubious identifications and records are discussed. Adults and genitalia are illustrated and bionomic details, DNA barcodes and a synonymic checklist for Socotran cossids are provided. A review of their distribution reveals that at least 80 percent of Socotra's cossids are unique to the archipelago, which is renowned for its endemism. A checklist listing all the species from generas Meharia, Mormogystia, Aethalopteryx, Azygophleps, as well as the synonymy and distribution is provided.
