RESUMO

A new family of oxalate-bridged chains of formula (C(1))[Mn(H(2)O)(3)Cr(ox)(3)]·H(2)O (1), (C(2))(4)[Mn(2)(H(2)O)(3)ClCr(2)(ox)(6)]Cl·H(2)O·2C(2)H(6)O (2a), (C(2))(4)[Co(2)(H(2)O)(3)ClCr(2)(ox)(6)]Cl·2H(2)O·2C(2)H(6)O (2b), [Mn(C(3))(H(2)O)(2)Cr(ox)(3)]·H(2)O (3), and (C(4))(4)[Mn(H(2)O){Cr(ox)(3)}(2)]·H(2)O (4) [C(1)(+) = tetramethylammonium, C(2)(+) = 4-N,N-dimethylaminopyridinium, C(3)(+) = 1-hydroxyethyl-4-N,N-dimethylamino-pyridinium, C(4)(+) = 1-hydroxyethyl-4-(4'-dimethylamino-α-styryl)-pyridinium, ox(2-) = oxalate] have been synthesized by self-assembly of the (C(n))(3)[Cr(ox)(3)] (n = 1-4) mononuclear compound and the chloride salts of the corresponding metal(II) ions. The crystal structures of the five chain compounds have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 2 crystallize in the Pc and P2(1)/c centrosymmetrical space groups, respectively, whereas 3 and 4 crystallize in the C2cb and P1 noncentrosymmetrical space groups, respectively. Compounds 1, 2, and 3 adopt a zigzag chain structure while 4 exhibits a comb-like chain structure consisting of the repetition of the [Mn(H(2)O){Cr(µ-ox)(ox)(2)}{Cr(µ-ox)(2)(ox)}](4-) entities. Compound 3 displays large second-order optical nonlinearity. The magnetic properties of 1-4 have been investigated in the temperature range 2-300 K. Monte Carlo simulations on 1, 2a, 2b, and 3 provide a quantitative description of the magnetic properties indicating ferromagnetic interactions through the bis(bidentate) oxalate bridges [J = +0.55 cm(-1) (1), J = +1.02 cm(-1) (2a), J = +3.83 cm(-1) (2b), and J = +0.75 cm(-1) (3) using Hamiltonian H = -J(S(i)·S(j))]. On the other side, the fit of the magnetic susceptibility data of 4 by full-matrix diagonalization agrees with a ferromagnetic exchange interaction within the [Mn(H(2)O){Cr(µ-ox)(ox)(2)}{Cr(µ-ox)(2)(ox)}](4-) trinuclear units (J = +2.07 cm(-1)) antiferromagnetically coupled along the chain. Compound 2b exhibits a metamagnetic behavior, the value of the critical field being H(C) = 1000 G, due to the occurrence of weak interchain antiferromagnetic interactions.

RESUMO

A complex-as-ligand strategy to get a multifunctional molecular material led to a metal-organic framework with the formula (NH(4))(4)[MnCr(2)(ox)(6)]·4H(2)O. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that the anionic bimetallic coordination network adopts a chiral three-dimensional quartz-like architecture. It hosts ammonium cations and water molecules in functionalized channels. In addition to ferromagnetic ordering below T(C) = 3.0 K related to the host network, the material exhibits a very high proton conductivity of 1.1 × 10(-3) S cm(-1) at room temperature due to the guest molecules.

RESUMO

Three new bimetallic oxamato-based magnets with the proligand 4,5-dimethyl-1,2-phenylenebis(oxamato) (dmopba) were synthesized using water or dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) as solvents. Single crystal X-ray diffraction provided structures for two of them: [MnCu(dmopba)(H(2)O)(3)](n)·4nH(2)O (1) and [MnCu(dmopba)(DMSO)(3)](n)·nDMSO (2). The crystalline structures for both 1 and 2 consist of linearly ordered oxamato-bridged Mn(II)Cu(II) bimetallic chains. The magnetic characterization revealed a typical behaviour of ferrimagnetic chains for 1 and 2. Least-squares fits of the experimental magnetic data performed in the 300-20 K temperature range led to J(MnCu) = -27.9 cm(-1), g(Cu) = 2.09 and g(Mn) = 1.98 for 1 and J(MnCu) = -30.5 cm(-1), g(Cu) = 2.09 and g(Mn) = 2.02 for 2 (H = -J(MnCu)∑S(Mn),(i)(S(Cu,i) + S(Cu),(i-1))). The two-dimensional ferrimagnetic system [Me(4)N](2n){Co(2)[Cu(dmopba)](3)}(n)·4nDMSO·nH(2)O (3) was prepared by reaction of Co(II) ions and an excess of [Cu(dmopba)](2-) in DMSO. The study of the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility as well as the temperature and field dependences of the magnetization revealed a cluster glass-like behaviour for 3.

RESUMO

A magneto-structural study of two salicylamidoxime-based {Mn(6)} single-molecule magnets revealed that their anisotropy energy barriers, which can reach the current record for d-transition metal complexes, are strongly dependent upon the precise arrangement of ligands and the solvation state.

RESUMO

The electroactive benzothiazole hydrazone AMBTH-H(2), a new member of the 2,2'-azino-bis(N-alkylbenzothiazole) family, was synthesised in a five-step procedure and characterised by using X-ray diffraction along with two intermediates and the N-methylbenzothiazole hydrazone MBTH-H(2). Both AMBTH-H(2) and MBTH-H(2) were coupled to [Mo(6)O(19)](2-) in acetonitrile in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and dimethylaminopyridine to give two new diazoalkane-hexamolybdates, which were isolated as tetrabutylammonium salts and characterised by using IR, UV/Vis and NMR spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry and, for one of them, X-ray diffraction. The packing arrangement molecules in crystals of AMBTH-H(2), the redox features of the AMBTH-hexamolybdate hybrid together with a good electronic communication between the organic pi system and the molybdenum centres make these compounds very promising blocks for the synthesis of conducting molecular materials.

RESUMO

Two isostructural heterometallic trinuclear oxalato-bridged complexes of formula C(4)[MCr(2)(ox)(6)(H(2)O)(2)]·nH(2)O (C(+) = 4-aminopyridinium; ox(2-) = oxalate dianion; M(2+) = Mn(2+), n = 3, 1; M(2+) = Co(2+), n = 3.25, 2) have been synthesized by using direct self-assembly methods combining C(3)[Cr(ox)(3)] and the chloride salts of the corresponding metal ion. The crystal structures of both compounds have been resolved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. They crystallize in the C2/c space group [a = 11.5113(15) Å, b = 20.250(3) Å, c = 21.810(4) Å, beta = 100.447(10) degrees, V = 5161.6(3) Å(3), and Z = 4 for 1, and a = 11.4334(16) Å, b = 20.243(2) Å, c = 21.805(3) Å, beta = 101.113(9) degrees, V = 4951.9(11) Å(3), and Z = 4 for 2]. The structures of 1 and 2 consist of discrete linear [MCr(2)(ox)(6)](4-) bimetallic trinuclear units, pyridinium cations and crystallization water molecules. The linear trinuclear unit is built from a central trans-diaquametal(II), linked to two Cr(ox)(3)](3-) entities by oxalate bridges. One of the oxalate ions is coordinated to the central metal ion whereas the other two oxalate ligands are non-bridging. In the crystal, intermolecular hydrogen bonds involving oxalate ligands, water molecules and pyridinium cations, build a complex three-dimensional network. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements for 1 and 2 indicate a weak ferromagnetic interaction (J = +1.16 and +2.62/+2.70 cm(-1) for 1 and 2, respectively) between the two terminal Cr(III) (S(Cr) = 3/2) and the central high-spin Mn(II) (S(Mn) = 5/2) and Co(II) (S(Co) = 3/2) ions. The nature and the amplitude of the exchange interaction are rationalized using DFT calculations and orbital interpretations.

RESUMO

The 3-(2'-imidazolyl)-1,5-dimethyl-6-oxoverdazyl radical (imvd(*)) and the corresponding tetrazane H3imvd were prepared and structurally characterized, the former as two different hydrates. Reaction of imvd(*) with [M(hfac)2] led to the formation of monometallic complexes [M(hfac)2(imvd(*))] (M = Ni and Mn). They were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the solid state, all four radical-containing compounds exhibit imidazole-oxoverdazyl pi stacking. Following the structural analysis, imvd(*) behaves as an antiferromagnetic (AF) coupled chain with J = -100 cm(-1) (H = -J summation operator SiS(i+1)). The magnetic behavior of [M(hfac)2(imvd(*))] complexes is interpreted with a four-coupled spin model with a metal ion radical intramolecular interaction (JMn = -62.5 cm(-1) and JNi = 193 cm(-1); H = -JSMSimvd) and an AF intermolecular interaction (JMn' = -12.6 cm(-1) and JNi' = -4.3 cm(-1)) related to imidazole-oxoverdazyl pi stacking.

RESUMO

A series of 2D metals, beta-(BDT-TTP)6[Re6Se6Cl8] x (CHCl2-CHCl2)2, 2; beta-(ST-TTP)6[Re6S6Cl8] x (CH2Cl-CHCl2)2, 3; beta-(BDT-TTP)7[Re6S6Cl8]0.5[Re6S7Cl7]0.5 x (CH2Cl2), 4; beta-(BDT-TTP)7[Re6Se6Cl8]0.5[Re6S7Cl7]0.5 x (CH2Cl2), 5; beta-(BDT-TTP)8[Re6S7Cl7] x (CH2Cl2)4, 6 (BDT-TTP and ST-TTP are 2,5-bis(1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)-1,3,4,6-tetrathiapentalene and 2-(1,3-diselenol-2-ylidene)-5(1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)-1,3,4,6-tetrathiapentalene, respectively) is reported to have one single beta-slab layered topology despite successive increases of the cluster anion negative charge. The charge density within the templating composite inorganic-neutral molecule slab is shown to remain above a threshold of ca. one negative charge per square nanometer, that is, for cluster anions with two negative charges and higher. Conversely, discrete stacks are shown to be stabilized instead in the semiconducting salts (BDT-TTP)2[Re6S5Cl9], 1 where the cluster anion bears one negative charge only. The electronic structure of salts 2-6 is shown to be very stable and kept almost intact across the series. The templating strategy is shown to fulfill its anticipated potential for deliberate installment of incommensurate band fillings in molecular metals. The deliberate admixture of the 6:1 and 8:1 structures yields novel phases with a 7:1 stoichiometry with the anticipated crystal and electronic structures. The action at the organic-inorganic interface triggered by changing the anion charge yet keeping its shape and volume identical, which ultimately governs the shape of the unit cell, is of paramount importance in defining the Fermi surface of these metallic salts. The present BDT-TTP salts thus provide a series of materials with strongly related but subtly different Fermi surfaces worthy of many physical studies. Shubnikov-de Haas measurements are expected to be particularly interesting since they are especially sensitive to the details of the Fermi surface.

RESUMO

The ruthenium-nitrido POM derivative [PW11O39{RuVIN}]4- has been synthesized by reaction between [PW11O39]7- and [RuVINCl5]2- or [RuVINCl4]-. Its molecular structure has been confirmed from multinuclear 31P and 183W NMR spectroscopy together with an EXAFS study, while the oxidation state of the ruthenium bearing the nitrido ligand has been inferred both from 183W NMR and XANES analysis at the Ru-K edge. The potential of [PW11O39{RuVIN}]4- in N-atom transfer reactions has been demonstrated through reaction with triphenylphosphine, which ultimately leads to the release of the bis(triphenylphosphane)iminium cation [PPh3=N=PPh3]+ through several intermediates, among which the phosphoraniminato derivative [PW11O39{RuVNPh3}]3- has been structurally characterized. Its unusual oxidation state is in accordance with its EPR spectrum.

RESUMO

Three {Ru(p-cym)}(2+) (p-cym = p-cymene) derivatives of [Nb(6)O(19)](8-)-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}](6-) (Nb(6)Ru(1)), trans-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)](4-) (t-Nb6Ru2), and [Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(4)] (Nb(6)Ru(4))--have been synthesized in water by reaction between [Ru(p-cym)Cl(2)](2) and the hexaniobate. In the solid state, Nb(6)Ru(1) and Nb(6)Ru(4) have been characterized by IR and EDX spectroscopies, whereas t-Nb(6)Ru(2) has been characterized by IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (crystal data for K(4)-trans-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)].14H(2)O (K(4)-t-Nb(6)Ru(2).14H(2)O). In solution, all compounds were characterized by (1)H NMR and ESI mass spectrometry analyses, and Nb(6)Ru(1) was also analyzed by (17)O NMR. These studies allowed a comparison of the differences in behaviour of the three complexes in water: Nb(6)Ru(1) is particularly stable, Nb(6)Ru(4) decomposes by loss of {Ru(p-cym)}(2+) fragments, and trans-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)](4-) isomerizes into cis-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)](4-). A rational mechanism for the isomerisation of t-Nb(6)Ru(2) is proposed on the basis of a kinetic study.

RESUMO

We report the anion-templated syntheses of a variety of supramolecular assemblies of Co(II). Remarkably in the presence of a weakly coordinating ion such as BF(4) (-), a discrete three-dimensional cage [BF(4) subset(BF(4))(2)Co(2)(L(1))(4)][BF(4)] (2) is formed with three coordinated BF(4) (-) ions, a rare example in supramolecular chemistry (L(1)=di(benzimidazole)-1,4-phenylene). Switching to stronger coordinating ions, such as NO(3) (-) or Cl(-), a one-dimensional coordination polymer [[Co(L(1))(NO(3))(2)](n)] (3) and a metallomacrocycle [Co(2)(L(1))(2)(Cl)(4)] (5) were formed, respectively. These results illustrate the powerful effect of the anion-templating chemistry. Finally the magnetic properties of these assemblies 1 b, 2, 3, and 5 are presented and discussed.

RESUMO

A number of coumarins exhibit interesting pharmacological activities and are therefore of therapeutic use. We report here the synthesis and the structural analysis of new N-substituted 4-amino-3-(2-methylbenzyl)coumarins (compounds 8a-8e) that present structural analogies with estrothiazine and 11- or 7-substituted 17beta-estradiol. These derivatives were tested with respect to estrogenic activity on the estrogen receptor positive (ER+) human MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. Two of the reported compounds (8a and 8b) stimulated specifically the proliferation of MCF-7 cells, but not that of estrogen receptor negative (ER-) human MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells, suggesting that their mitogenic activity is mediated by ER. Accordingly, the stimulating effect of 8a and 8b was suppressed by the pure antiestrogen fulvestrant. Besides, 8a and 8b induced ER down-regulation similar to that produced by classical ER agonists or pure antagonists. The effects of the compounds under study on ER-mediated transcription were assessed on (ER+) MVLN cells, that is, MCF-7 cells stably transfected with a pVit-tk-Luc reporter plasmid. Derivatives 8a and 8b, and surprisingly compound 8c, enhanced ER-mediated gene transactivation in that model. Finally, no coumarin was able to compete with tritiated 17beta-estradiol ([(3)H]E(2)) for ER binding, suggesting unconventional interactions with the receptor, such as interactions with the second binding pocket or with the coactivator-binding region. To conclude, observations performed in this study on compound 8c reveal that estrogenic activity can be dissociated from enhancement of cell proliferation. Furthermore, ERE-driven transactivation of transcription seems to be a condition necessary, but not sufficient, for estrogen-induced stimulation of cell growth.

RESUMO

A series of two-dimensional (2D) oxalate-based compounds, namely [N(n-C4H9)4][M(II)Cr(III)(ox)3] (M(II) = Mn, Fe; ox = C2O4(2-)) and [N(C2H5)(n-C3H7)(n-C4H9)(n-C5H11)][M(II)M(III)(ox)(3)] ((M(II), M(III)) =(Mn, Cr), (Fe, Cr), (Mn, Fe)) were synthesised starting from racemic tris(oxalato)metalate: rac-[M(III)(ox)3]3- (M(III) = Cr, Fe). For Cr(III), the synthesis has been undertaken starting from resolved (Delta)- or (Lambda)-[Cr(III)(ox)3]3-. The natural circular dichroism measurements assess the enantioselectivity of the synthesis. X-Ray powder diffraction analysis has revealed that, when racemic reagents are used to synthesise Mn(II) containing compounds, a R3c achiral space group is found. In contrast a P6(3) chiral space group is found when starting from (Delta)- or (Lambda)-[Cr(III)(ox)3]3-. Surprisingly, whatever the optical purity of the starting building block, all Fe(II) containing compounds crystallise in the P6(3) chiral space group. The magnetic properties of the synthesised compounds confirm that these compounds are ferromagnets for M(III)= Cr. For M(II)= Mn, Theta ranges between 9 and 11 K and T(c) equals 6 K. For M(II)= Fe, Theta ranges between 14 and 16 K and Tc between 11 and 12 K. [N(C2H5)(n-C3H7)(n-C4H9)(n-C5H11)][Mn(II)Fe(III)(ox)3] is an antiferromagnet with Theta = - 107 K and T(N) = 29 K.

RESUMO

Oxo alcoxo metallic clusters can be employed as inorganic nanobuilding blocks to obtain well-defined organic-inorganic hybrid materials. A better understanding of the surface reactivity of the clusters should allow optimization of the elaboration of hybrid materials through a better control of the hybrid interface. The oxo alcoxo cluster Ti(16)O(16)(OEt)32 presents a shell of labile ethoxy groups that can be selectively transalcoholyzed with preservation of the titanium oxo core, leading to new oxo alcoxo clusters Ti(16)O(16)(OEt)32-x(OR)x (R: alkyl, phenyl, styrenic, etc. groups). The reactivity of the Ti(16)O(16)(OEt)32 cluster toward aliphatic and aromatic alcohols is investigated to determine both the kinetics and the number of substituted titanium atoms, which are strongly dependent on the nature of the alcohol. Characterization of the organic modification of the cluster is performed in situ by liquid (13)C NMR measurements, using the molecular structures of two new clusters, Ti(16)O(16)(OEt)28(OnPr)4 and Ti(16)O(16)(OEt)(24)(OnPr)(8) (OnPr = propoxy groups), as references. The structures of these clusters have been established using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Moreover, a complete spectroscopic assignment of each ethoxy group is proposed after combining crystallographic data, (13)C NMR T(1) relaxation measurements, and (1)H-(1)H, (1)H-(13)C 2D NMR experiments. Finally, the cluster is functionalized with polymerizable ligands via transalcoholysis and transesterification reactions using hydroxystyrene and acetoxystyrene.

RESUMO

The first total synthesis of the potent glycosidase inhibitors 1-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-5-deoxyadenophorine and its aglycon congener is described in respectively 13 steps (9% overall yield) and 9 steps (29% overall yield) from (R)-Garner aldehyde. The synthesis takes advantage of several key reactions including a diastereoselective allylation of a chiral imine, a stereoselective epoxidation, and a glycoside coupling. In addition this study established unambiguously the absolute configuration of the natural products.

RESUMO

Cyclic vinylogous tetrathiafulvalenes (TTFs) where the two dithiole rings are linked through the outer sulfur atoms with an alkyl chain of various lengths were synthesized by oxidative intramolecular coupling of bis(dithiafulvenes). Upon oxidation, these systems exhibit large molecular movements associated with electron transfers. Their electrochemical behaviors were investigated together with the X-ray crystallographic structures of several derivatives and compared with molecular geometry calculations. Dependent on the length of the alkyl chain, either a stretch or a clip movement can be observed. These conformational modifications were found to be fast and fully reversible and required only low oxidation potentials. The movements seem to be almost insensitive to the nature of the substituents or its steric hindrance on the central conjugated spacer.
