RESUMO

Pseudoaneurism of the uterine artery is uncommon and is usually associated with pregnancy or surgical trauma. Diagnosis is based on both Doppler sonography and arteriography. We report a case of pseudoaneurysm of the uterine artery associated with a leiomyoma without prior surgery or pregnancy. Treatment, which consisted on laparotomy, allowed avoiding rupture and confirmed diagnosis.

RESUMO

A new case of trisomy 4p is reported. The patient was a boy with dysmorphism, growth failure and developmental retardation. Craniofacial features included microcephaly with a flat forehead, a prominent glabella, hyperteleorism, a broad, concave nasal bridge, a bulb-shaped nose, a wide mouth with a prominent upper lip and a short philtrum, low-set ears, a low hairline, micrognathia, and a short neck. Abdominal muscles were normal. Cryptorchidism with a hypoplastic scrotum and a micropenis were found, as well as forced flexion of the fingers and talipes equinus. The intravenous urogram disclosed ptosis of the right kidney. Developmental retardation was severe with an IQ under 50. RHG banding techniques on peripheral lymphocytes disclosed 4p14 pter duplication. The karyotype was 46,XY inv dup(4-p) (p14----pter). The mother's karyotype was normal. The father had a translocation between the short arm of chromosome 4 and the long arm of chromosome 15; his karyotype was 46,XY, t(4;15) (p14;q26). Thus, the child had trisomy for a segment of the short arm of chromosome 4 (p14----pter) and monosomy for the terminal band of the long arm of chromosome 15 (15q26). The first case of trisomy 4p was reported in 1970 by Wilson et al. Since then, there have been 46 additional reports in the medical literature. Although children with trisomy 4p share a number of features, the phenotypic manifestations of this chromosomal abnormality are variable and nonspecific, making clinical diagnosis difficult.

RESUMO

A case of renal hemangioma in a child is reported. The patient presented with severe painless hematuria. Intravenous pyelography showed a filling defect in the middle calyx of the right kidney. Ultrasonography showed a hypoechoic zone in the renal sinus. Hematuria was unilateral on right side at cystoscopy. Total nephrectomy was performed. The diagnosis was confirmed by histology.

RESUMO

The authors report a new case of chondrosarcoma of the mandible in a 24 year-old female patient. They insist on the rareness of this entity and on the difficulties in establishing this diagnosis from the clinical, radiological and pathological points of view. Elements of prognosis are discussed through a review of the literature.

RESUMO

Samples of sperm have been obtained from 95 who consulted us for infertility. In each case seminal plasma was examined for levels of alpha-1,4-glucosidase and L-carnitine. Our results have led us to fix the threshold value of 42.6 mlU per ejaculate for alpha-1,4-glucosidase and 960 nanomoles of L-carnitine below those levels that we thought occur where the origin of the oligospermia is obstructive (series 1 patients). In series 2 patients the cause of the oligospermia purely being secretory, there is normal epididymal function and therefore the excretory doubts are proven. It is not impossible to have both pathologies because we have found this in men of the intermediate groups C and D. We have found that there is a correlation between the presence of epididymal pathology and a drop in epididymal markers which can be found in severe oligospermia (which can be epididymal in origin and not testicular). Also when there is non abnormalities in the spermogram. This last situation can occur in "invisible" abnormalities of spermaturation in the epidymus.

RESUMO

We describe the unusual case of a 60-year-old woman with malignant melanoma of the vagina and positive right inguinal lymph nodes. Etiopathogenesis of this lesion, prognostic factors, and therapeutic attitude, are discussed in the light of data from the literature and the case reported herein.

RESUMO

Paraganglioma is rare neoplasm. The authors report two new cases. The first case was a 36 year-old woman who presented with post-micturitional episodes of hypertension. Radiologic and endoscopic investigations showed a left submucosal bladder neck tumor. A partial cystectomy was performed under neuroleptanalgesia. The postoperative course was uneventful is simple. The second case was a 61 year-old woman who presented with a non secreting para-aortic paraganglioma.

RESUMO

The authors report a case of intracerebral Schwannoma discovered in a 13 year old girl who had shown symptoms of increased intracranial pressure since four years and half evolving progressively to aggravation. CT scan images and operating appearance were uncharacteristic. Histological diagnosis of the tumor was only established at pathological examination. The tumor recurred 15 months after in spite of its complete extirpation. The characteristics of this extremely rare localization of Schwannoma (14 cases published in the literature) are pin-pointed by the authors.

RESUMO

Immunoperoxidase staining was applied to the hypothalamus and posterior pituitary of the camel. Vasopressin and oxytocin cells and fibers were identified in different nuclei of the hypothalamus. Immunoreactive fiber tracts were followed to the median eminence and the posterior pituitary. In the median eminence, two different pathways were found for vasopressin, one passing to the posterior lobe and the other contacting capillaries of the portal system. The oxytocin antiserum stained one unique pathway in the internal zone on its way to the posterior pituitary. The two immunoreactivities were shown in the posterior lobe of the pituitary, vasopressin staining being the more intense. Relations between these data and the physiology of the camel are discussed.

RESUMO

We report the cases of 4 patients with renal pelvis tumor associated with renal calculi. Sonography was correlated with gross pathology in three cases. The pre operative diagnostic can be made by sonography. The carcinogenic role of the lithiasis and infection is quite possible.

RESUMO

Immunocytochemical methods were applied to camel pituitaries. ACTH, beta-lipotropin (LPH), LH beta, GH, TSH, and PRL immunoreactive cells were identified. They were located on different parts of anterior pituitary and had different organization and shape. In addition, somatostatin-like immunoreactivity was seen in cells situated at the top of pituitary cleft specially in a cone-shaped extension of the intermediate lobe. The role and the eventual origin of these cells have yet to be established and their occurrence related to age and life conditions.
