RESUMO

This article describes the synthesis, characterization (1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, HRMS and XRD), UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectra, theoretical analysis, evaluation of nonlinear optical properties (NLO), thermal analysis and determination of the hemolytic capacity of the compound (E)-N-(4-(3-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)acryloyl)phenyl)quinoline-3-carboxamide (5). Radiological findings showed that compound 5 crystallized in space group Pca21. Furthermore, theoretical DFT studies performed with the B3LYP and M062X functionals showed good agreement with the experimental results and provided valuable information on the molecular and electronic structure, reactivity, polarizability, and kinematic stability of the compound. Besides, compound 5 did not show any hemolytic effect on human erythrocytes and exhibited strong NLO properties. The TG and DTA thermograms of quinoline-chalcone (5) revealed a multi-step thermal decomposition process with a total mass loss of 83.2%, including water content loss. The DTA curves exhibited endothermic peaks corresponding to decomposition steps, melting point, and thermochemical transition. Additionally, exothermic peaks in the DTA thermograms align with significant mass loss, confirming the compound's melting point and water content, as validated by X-ray diffraction analysis. These results contribute to the advancement of research on compounds with NLO properties and offer a promising avenue for the development of substances potentially applicable to optical devices in the biomedical field.

RESUMO

The increase in and concern about neurodegenerative diseases continue to grow in an increasingly long-lived world population. Therefore, the search for new drugs continues to be a priority for medicinal chemistry. We present here the synthesis of a series of compounds with acetamide nuclei. Their structures were established using UV-Visible, NMR, HRMS and IR techniques. Furthermore, we report the crystal structures that were obtained from compounds 5a-5d by X-ray diffraction. The compounds were evaluated as potential inhibitors of the monoxidase enzymes; A (MAO-A) and B (MAO-B), and cholinesterases; acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) through in silico studies using the induced fit docking (IFD) method and binding free energy (ΔGbind) calculations by the MMGBSA method. Interestingly, compounds 5b, 5c and 5d showed much better ΔGbind than the reference drug Zonisamide. Compound 5c is the best in the series, which indicates a potential selective affinity of our compounds against MAO-B, which could be a promising finding in the search for new drugs for Parkinson's disease treatment. The acetamide crystal exhibits moderate NLO properties suggesting that it could be considered a potential candidate for application in nonlinear optical devices.

RESUMO

[Eu(3DPIQC)3] (where DPIQC = 3-(diphenyl phosphoryl)-1-isoquinolinecarboxylate), a luminescent europium complex with antenna ligands, has been carefully embedded within a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) matrix and the resulting material was used to prepare films used as luminescent down-shifting layers (LDSLs) for crystalline Si-based solar cells. The films were characterized using photoluminescence spectroscopy, atomic force spectroscopy (AFM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, and fluorescence microscopy. The AFM analysis shows films with low surface roughness, while fluorescence microscopy revealed that the Eu complex embedded in PVB assumed a spheroidal configuration, a morphology especially beneficial for optical applications. The so-obtained LDSLs were utilized as energy converters in c-Si solar cells to enhance the utilization of high-energy photons, thereby improving their overall efficiency. The determination of photovoltaic parameters carried out before and after the deposition of the LDSLs on the c-Si cells confirms a positive effect on the efficiency of the cell. The Jsc increases from 121.6 mA/cm2 to 124.9 mA/cm2, and the open circuit voltage (Voc) is found to be unrelated to the complex concentration in the films. The fill factor (FF) remains constant with the Eu concentration. The EQE curves indicate an enhancement in the performance of the photovoltaic cells within the UV region of the spectrum for all coated devices. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was also carried out in order to analyze the effect of the Eu complex in the charge transfer process of the devices.

RESUMO

In this report, we have used the DFT + U + V approach, an extension of the DFT + U approach that takes into account both on-site and intersite interactions, to simulate structural, magnetic, and electronic properties together with the Fe and O K-edge XAS spectra of Fe3O4 above the Verwey temperature (Tv). Moreover, we compared the simulated XAS spectra with experimental XAS data. We examined both orthogonalized and nonorthogonalized atomic orbital projectors and compared DFT + U + V to DFT, DFT + U, and HSE as a hybrid functional. It is noteworthy that, despite the widespread use of the same Hubbard U value for Feoct and Fetet at the DFT + U level in the literature, the HP code identified two distinct values for them using the Hubbard approaches (DFT + U and DFT + U + V). The resulting Hubbard U and V parameters are strongly dependent on the chosen orbital projectors. This study demonstrates how DFT + U + V can improve the structural, magnetic, and electronic properties of Fe3O4 compared to approximate DFT and DFT + U. In this context, DFT + U + V supports the half-metallic character of the bulk crystal Fe3O4 above Tv, since the Fermi level is found in the t2g band with a Feoct down-spin. Thus, the observations in the current study emphasize the significance of intersite interactions in the theoretical analysis of Fe3O4 above the Tv.

RESUMO

We report the synthesis, characterization, and photoelectric and electrochemical properties of (CH3NH3)2Zn1-xCoxBr4 (x = 0.0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0) samples. X-ray powder and single-crystal diffraction confirm the formation of solid solution across the entire range. Additionally, as the cobalt concentration increases, the crystallinity of the samples decreases, as indicated by the powder diffraction patterns. All samples remain stable up to 560 K, beyond which they decompose into CH3NH3Br and the respective bromide. The semiconductor behavior of the compounds is confirmed through optical absorption measurements, and band gap values are determined by using the Tauc method from diffuse reflectance spectra. Raman spectroscopy reveals a slight redshift in all vibration modes with increasing cobalt content. Finally, photovoltaic measurements on solar cells constructed with (MA)2CoBr4 perovskite exhibit modest performance, and electrochemical measurements indicate that the compound with the composition (MA)2Zn0.3Co0.7Br4 exhibits the highest current for electrochemical water reduction during oxygen evolution.

RESUMO

In this study, two pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine derivatives (4a and 4b) were grown using a slow evaporation solution growth technique and characterized by FT-IR, HRMS, 1H/13C NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. The 4a and 4b structures crystallized in monoclinic and triclinic systems with space groups P21/n and P1̄, respectively. Theoretical calculations were performed at the DFT/B3LYP level for the optimized geometries. The results were in excellent agreement with the experimental data (spectroscopic and XRD). This investigation encompasses molecular modeling studies including Hirshfeld surface analysis, energy framework calculations, and frontier molecular orbital analysis. Intermolecular interactions within the crystal structures of the compounds were explored through Hirshfeld surface analysis, which revealed the notable presence of hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions. This insight provides valuable information on the structural stability and potential solubility characteristics of these compounds. The research was extended to docking analysis with eight distinct kinases (BRAF, HER2, CSF1R, MEK2, PDGFRA, JAK, AKT1, and AKT2). The results of this analysis demonstrate that both 4a and 4b interact effectively with the kinase-binding sites through a combination of hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonding. Compound 4a had the best affinity for proteins; this is related to the fact that the compound is not rigid and has a small size, allowing it to sit well at any binding site. This study contributes to the advancement of kinase inhibitor research and offers potential avenues for the development of new therapeutic agents for cancer treatment.

RESUMO

In the title compound, C6H8N2OS, all atoms except for the methyl H atoms are coplanar, with a maximum deviation of 0.026 (4) Å. In the crystal, pairs of mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming R 2 2(8) ring motifs. Dimers are connected by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to the (102) plane. Consolidating the mol-ecular packing, these layers are connected by C-H⋯π inter-actions between the center of the 1,3-thia-zole ring and the H atom of the methyl group attached to it, as well as C=O⋯π inter-actions between the center of the 1,3-thia-zole ring and the O atom of the carboxyl group. According to a Hirshfeld surface study, H⋯H (37.6%), O⋯H/H⋯O (16.8%), S⋯H/H⋯S (15.4%), N⋯H/H⋯N (13.0%) and C⋯H/H⋯C (7.6%) inter-actions are the most significant contributors to the crystal packing.

RESUMO

In the hydrated title salt, C7H12N5S2 +·Cl-·H2O, the asymmetric unit comprises one 2-amino-5-{(1E)-1-[(carbamo-thioyl-amino)-imino]-eth-yl}-4-methyl-1,3-thia-zol-3-ium cation, one chloride anion and one water mol-ecule of crystallization. The cation is nearly flat (r.m.s. deviation of non-H atoms is 0.0814 Å), with the largest deviation of 0.1484 (14) Šobserved for one of the methyl C atoms. In the crystal, the cations are linked by O-H⋯Cl, N-H⋯Cl, N-H⋯O, N-H⋯S and C-H⋯S hydrogen bonds, forming a tri-periodic network. The most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H⋯H (35.4%), S⋯H/H⋯S (24.4%), N⋯H/H⋯N (8.7%), Cl⋯H/H⋯Cl (8.2%) and C⋯H/H⋯C (7.7%) inter-actions.

RESUMO

The electrochemical ion pumping device is a promising alternative for the development of the industry of recovering metals from natural sources-such as seawater, geothermal water, well brine, or reverse osmosis brine-using electrochemical systems, which is considered a non-evaporative process. This technology is potentially used for metals like Li, Cu, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Sr, and others that are mostly obtained from natural brine sources through a combination of pumping, solar evaporation, and solvent extraction steps. As the future demand for metals for the electronic industry increases, new forms of marine mining processing alternatives are being implemented. Unfortunately, both land and marine mining, such as off-shore and deep sea types, have great potential for severe environmental disruption. In this context, a green alternative is the mixing entropy battery, which is a promising technique whereby the ions are captured from a saline natural source and released into a recovery solution with low ionic force using intercalation materials such as Prussian Blue Analogue (PBA) to store cations inside its crystal structure. This new technique, called "electrochemical ion pumping", has been proposed for water desalination, lithium concentration, and blue energy recovery using the difference in salt concentration. The raw material for this technology is a saline solution containing ions of interest, such as seawater, natural brines, or industrial waste. In particular, six main ions of interest-Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, and SO42--are found in seawater, and they constitute 99.5% of the world's total dissolved salts. This manuscript provides relevant information about this new non-evaporative process for recovering metals from aqueous salty solutions using hexacianometals such as CuHCF, NiHCF, and CoHCF as electrodes, among others, for selective ion removal.

RESUMO

A single crystal of a piperonal chalcone derivative was obtained, fully characterized, and crystallized by a slow evaporation technique. The synthesized compound was characterized by UV-Visible, FT-IR, HRMS, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopic studies and X-ray crystallography, revealing that the crystal belongs to a triclinic crystal system with a P1̄ space group, Z = 2. In the present work, we focus on molecular modeling studies such as Hirshfeld surface analysis, energy framework calculations, frontier molecular orbital analysis, natural bond orbital analysis, and NLO properties of a π-conjugate system combining the chalcone and the pyrazole[3,4-b]pyridine scaffolds to describe the in-depth structural analysis thereof. Good agreement was found between the calculated results and experimental data. In addition, Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure showed that the intermolecular stabilization in the crystal packing comes mainly from H⋯H bond interactions. The chalcone crystal exhibits significant NLO properties suggesting that it could be considered a potential candidate for application in nonlinear optical devices.

RESUMO

In this work, we have studied the benzofurans of Pericallis echinata (aerial parts and transformed roots), P. steetzii (aerial parts and transformed roots), P. lanata (aerial parts), and P. murrayi (aerial parts and roots). This work has permitted the isolation of the new benzofurans 10-ethoxy-11-hydroxy-10,11-dihydroeuparin (10), (-)-eupachinin A ethyl ether (12), 11,15-didehydro-eupachinin A (13), 10,12-dihydroxy-11-angelyloxy-10,11-dihydroeuparin (14), 2,4-dihydroxy-5-formyl-acetophenone (15) isolated for the first time as a natural product, 11-angelyloxy-10,11-dihydroeuparin (16), and 12-angelyloxyeuparone (17), along with several known ones (1-9, 11). In addition, the incubation of the abundant component, 6-hydroxytremetone (1), with the fungus Mucor plumbeus has been studied. Benzofurans in the tremetone series (1, 1a, 2-5, 18, 18a), the euparin series (6, 7, 7a, 8-10, 14, 16), and the eupachinin-type (11, 12) were tested for antifeedant effects against the insect Spodoptera littoralis. The antifeedant compounds (1, 4, 6, 11, 12) were further tested for postingestive effects on S. littoralis larvae. The most antifeedant compounds were among the tremetone series, with 3-ethoxy-hydroxy-tremetone (4) being the strongest antifeedant. Glucosylation of 1 by its biotransformation with Mucor plumbeus gave inactive products. Among the euparin series, the dihydroxyangelate 14 was the most active, followed by euparin (6). The eupachinin-type compounds (11, 12) were both antifeedants. Compounds 4, 11, and 12 showed antifeedant effects without postingestive toxicity to orally dosed S. littoralis larvae. Euparin (6) had postingestive toxicity that was enhanced by the synergist piperonyl butoxide.

RESUMO

Two Zn(II) coordination polymers (CPs) based on n-methylpyridyltriazole carboxylate semi-rigid organic ligands (n-MPTC), with n = 3 (L1) and 4 (L2), have been prepared at the water n-butanol interphase by reacting Zn(NO3)2·4H2O with NaL1 and NaL2. This allows us to systematically investigate the influence of the isomeric positional effect on their structures. The organic ligands were obtained by saponification from their respective ester precursors ethyl-5-methyl-1-(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylate (P1) and ethyl-5-methyl-1-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylate (P2), resulting in their corresponding sodium salt forms, 3-MPTC, and 4-MPTC. The structure of the Zn(II) CPs determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that both CPs have 2D supramolecular hydrogen bond networks. The 2D supramolecular network of [Zn(L1)]n (1) is built up by hydrogen bond interactions between oxygen and hydrogen atoms between neighboring n-methylpyridyltriazole molecules, whereas in [Zn(L2)·4H2O]n (2) the water molecules link 1D polymeric chains forming a 2D supramolecular aggregate. The structures of 1 and 2 clearly show that the isomeric effect in the semi-rigid ligands plays a vital role in constructing the Zn(II) coordination polymers, helped by the presence of the methylene spacer group, in the final structural conformation. The structures of 1 and 2 significantly affect their luminescent properties. Thus, while 2 shows strong emission at room temperature centered at 367 nm, the emission of 1 is quenched substantially.

RESUMO

A novel set of four functionalized hydrophobic UiO-66-NHR series were synthesized through postsynthetic procedures, utilizing various benzoyl chlorides and UiO-66-NH2 as starting materials. This synthesis method was carried out by employing p- (1) and o-toluoyl (2), as well as 2- (3) and 4-fluorobenzoyl (4) substituents. The analysis of the resulting compounds was performed using conventional spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR and 1H NMR to quantify the conversion rate into amide. Furthermore, SEM and XPS techniques were employed for morphological and surface analysis. Finally, the evaluation of the chemical stability and contact angle using the sessile drop method was performed to evaluate the technological potential of these compounds for application in aqueous and acidic media (such as selective separation of different metals and wastewater recovery).

RESUMO

In the title compound, C15H14N2O2·H2O, the 1H-pyrrole ring makes a dihedral angle of 59.95 (13)° with the phenyl ring. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are connected by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into layers parallel to the (020) plane, while two mol-ecules are connected to the water mol-ecule by two N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and one mol-ecule by an O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. C-H⋯π and π-π inter-actions further link the mol-ecules into chains extending in the [01] direction and stabilize the mol-ecular packing. According to a Hirshfeld surface study, H⋯H (49.4%), C⋯H/H⋯C (23.2%) and O⋯H/H⋯O (20.0%) inter-actions are the most significant contributors to the crystal packing.

RESUMO

Pyrazole-fused phenanthroline compounds were obtained through several synthetic routes. NMR, HRMS, and IR techniques were used to characterize and confirm the chemical structures. Crystal structures were obtained from compounds 3a, 5b, 5j, 5k, and 5n and analyzed using X-ray diffraction. Compounds were evaluated as acetyl (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitors, and the results showed a moderate activity. Compound 5c presented the best activity against AChE (IC50 = 53.29 µM) and compound 5l against BChE enzyme (IC50 = 119.3 µM). Furthermore, the ability of the synthetic compounds to scavenge cationic radicals DPPH and ABTS was evaluated. Compound 5e (EC50 = 26.71 µg mL-1) presented the best results in the DPPH assay, and compounds 5e, 5f and 5g (EC50 = 11.51, 3.10 and <3 µg mL-1, respectively) showed better ABTS cationic radical scavenging results. Finally, in silico analyses indicated that 71% of the compounds show good oral availability and are within the ranges established by the Lipinski criteria.

RESUMO

The layer-structured monoclinic Li2MnO3 is a key material, mainly due to its role in Li-ion batteries and as a precursor for adsorbent used in lithium recovery from aqueous solutions. In the present work, we used first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) to study the crystal structure, optical phonon frequencies, infra-red (IR), and Raman active modes and compared the results with experimental data. First, Li2MnO3 powder was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and successively characterized by XRD, TEM, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy. Secondly, by using Local Density Approximation (LDA), we carried out a DFT study of the crystal structure and electronic properties of Li2MnO3. Finally, we calculated the vibrational properties using Density Functional Perturbation Theory (DFPT). Our results show that simulated IR and Raman spectra agree well with the observed phonon structure. Additionally, the IR and Raman theoretical spectra show similar features compared to the experimental ones. This research is useful in investigations involving the physicochemical characterization of Li2MnO3 material.

RESUMO

The successful application of fragment-based drug discovery strategy for the efficient synthesis of phenoxy- or phenylamino-2-phenyl-benzofuran, -benzoxazole and -benzothiazole quinones is described. Interestingly, in the final step of the synthesis of the target compounds, unusual results were observed on the regiochemistry of the reaction of bromoquinones with phenol and aniline. A theoretical study was carried out for better understanding the factors that control the regiochemistry of these reactions. The substituted heterocyclic quinones were evaluated in vitro to determine their cytotoxicity by the MTT method in three pancreatic cancer cell lines (MIA-PaCa-2, BxPC-3, and AsPC-1). Phenoxy benzothiazole quinone 26a showed potent cytotoxic activity against BxPC-3 cell lines, while phenylamino benzoxazole quinone 20 was the most potent on MIA-PaCa-2 cells. Finally, electrochemical properties of these quinones were determined to correlate with a potential mechanism of action. All these results, indicate that the phenoxy quinone fragment led to compounds with increased activity against pancreatic cancer cells.

RESUMO

Lithium manganese oxides (LMOs) are key materials due to their role in Li-ion batteries and lithium recovery from aqueous lithium resources. In the present work, we investigated the effect of the crystallization temperature on the formation by hydrothermal synthesis of LMO nanocomposites with high Li/Mn ratios. It is demonstrated that LMOs with a high Li/Mn ratio can be formed by systematically favoring the lithium-rich layered monoclinic phase (Li2MnO3) in a mixture of monoclinic and spinel crystalline phases. LMO nanocomposites have been characterized in terms of morphology, size, crystallinity, chemical composition and surface properties. Moreover, lithium adsorption experiments were conducted using acid-treated LMOs (HMOs) to evaluate the functionality of the nanocomposites as lithium adsorbent materials in a LiCl buffer solution. This study spotlights the structural, compositional, and functional properties of different LMO nanocomposites obtained by the hydrothermal method using the same Li and Mn precursor compounds at slightly different crystallization temperatures. According to our knowledge, this is the first report of the successful application of the lithium-rich Li2MnO3 phase in lithium manganese oxide nanocomposites as lithium adsorbent materials. Therefore, specific LMO nanocomposites with controlled amounts of the layered phase can be engineered to optimize lithium recovery from aqueous lithium resources.

RESUMO

Four N-acylhydrazones of general formulae [R1-C(O)-NH-N=C(R2)(5-nitrofuryl)] with (R1 = ferrocenyl or cyrhetrenyl and R2 = H or Me) are synthesized and characterized in solution and in the solid-state. Comparative studies of their stability in solution under different experimental conditions and their electrochemical properties are reported. NMR studies reveal that the four compounds are stable in DMSOd6 and complementary UV-Vis studies confirm that they also exhibit high stability in mixtures DMSO:H2O at 37 °C. Electrochemical studies show that the half-wave potential of the nitro group of the N-acylhydrazones is smaller than that of the standard drug nifurtimox and the reduction process follows a self-protonation mechanism. In vitro studies on the antiparasitic activities of the four complexes and the nifurtimox against Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma brucei reveal that: i) the N-acylhydrazones have a potent inhibitory growth activity against both parasites [EC50 in the low micromolar (in T. cruzi) or even in the nanomolar (in T. brucei) range] and ii) cyrhetrenyl derivatives are more effective than their ferrocenyl analogs. Parallel studies on the L6 rat skeletal myoblast cell line have also been conducted, and the selectivity indexes determined. Three of the four N-acylhydrazones showed higher selectivity towards T. brucei than the standard drug nifurtimox. Additional studies suggest that the organometallic compounds are bioactivated by type I nitroreductase enzymes.

RESUMO

Two new d10 metal supramolecular metal-organic frameworks (SMOFs) with general formula [ML2(H2O)2]n (M = Zn, Cd) have been synthetized using the sodium salt of the anionic 1-(3,4-dimethylphenyl)-5-methyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylate ligand (Na+L-). Both SMOFs have been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and IR spectroscopy. The compounds are isostructural and form supramolecular aggregates via hydrogen bonds with the presence of less common dihydrogen bonds. Interestingly, they show ionic conductivity and porosity. The luminescent properties have been also studied by means of the excitation and emission spectra. Periodic DFT and molecular TD-DFT calculations have been used to unravel the emergence of luminescence in the otherwise non-emitting 1-(3,4-dimethylphenyl)-5-methyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylate ligand once incorporated in the SMOFs. Our results also illustrate the importance of considering the dielectric environment in the crystal when performing excited state calculations for isolated fragments to capture the correct electronic character of the low-lying states, a practice which is not commonly adopted in the community.
