RESUMO

A share of damaged (nonviable) cells of rat thymus was quantitatively estimated on days 1 and 3 following irradiation with doses of 1, 3 and 6 Gy and a combined treatment with radiation and heat. The percentage of nonviable thymocytes was higher after the combined treatment than after the effect of radiation alone delivered in equivalent doses.

RESUMO

Activities of alpha-hydroxybutyrate- and lactate dehydrogenases (HBDH, LDH), aspartate- and alanine aminotransferases (AST, ALT), alkaline phosphatase, alpha-amylase as well as content of total proteins, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and Ca2+ were estimated sprectrophotometrically in blood serum of rat males within 2 hrs after thermic burns of the III degree involving 15% the body surface. The burns caused about 2-fold increase in activities of LDH, HBDH and AST and in content of triglycerides in blood serum but did not affect the other biochemical patterns. Adrenalectomy, carried out within 3 days before the burns, accelerated and pseudoadrenalectomy decreased the early postburn enzymatic activation. Preadministration of reserpine, phentolamine and obsidane (propranolol) decreased distinctly the hyperenzymic reaction observed after the burn stress.

RESUMO

A study was made of chromatin degradation in rat peripheral blood leukocytes 4, 24 and 72 h following the effect of radiation delivered separately and in a combination with burn. Irrespective of the radiation dose a maximum content of products of chromatin degradation was registered 72 h following the effects. The additional trauma (burn of 15% of a body) did not markedly influence the post-irradiation degradation of white blood cell DNP.

RESUMO

In experiments on rats it was shown that radiation and thermal traumas caused reduction in number of circulating macromolecular complexes, determined by the nephelometric method, by the end of the first 24 h following the damaging effect; on the 3d day, the amount of these complexes was minimum. The combined radiation-and-thermal damage produced the additive effect. The authors discuss the nature of the observed decrease in the number of circulating macromolecular complexes.

RESUMO

Compounds that possess long-term anesthetic effect have been found among phenylethylamine derivatives substituted by O-alkyl (position 4) or O-benzyl (positions 2, 3 and 4) radicals. It was shown that these compounds compare very favourably with novocain, since their anesthetic effect exceeds 54.8 - 66.9-fold that produced by novocain. Such an effect is a consequence of neurolytic properties of the compounds synthesized.
