RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The flipped classroom is an active methodology that has been implemented for many years in the training of nursing students with multiple studies published on this subject to date. AIM: This study sought to answer the question: is flipped classroom effective for improving nursing education? DESIGN: A systematic review of systematic and integrative reviews focused on studies that applied flipped classroom in the teaching of nursing students. DATA SOURCES: Exhaustive literature searches were performed using five electronic databases: Medline, Cochrane, CINAHL Plus, Scopus and Web of Science. REVIEW METHODS: In total, 670 studies were identified, published from 2010 until 2020. Data were collected by two reviewers following the predesigned extraction form. Quality was assessed with the modified AMSTAR scale. A narrative synthesis of the findings has been used to present the results. RESULTS: 15 reviews (9 integrative reviews and 6 systematic reviews) were selected, comprising 274 studies, and providing a sample of 34,608 students. Most of the studies were conducted in China and the United States. A great heterogeneity and a medium-low methodological quality were detected. In the pre-class stage, individual instruction of students through reviews of articles and textbooks or electronic books is highlighted. In class, group activities were most frequently used, including assignments, presentations, projects, or discussion of topics, and in the post-class stage, course evaluation and self-study. The post-class stage was only recorded in two of the systematic reviews selected. When comparing the flipped classroom with the traditional methodology, better results were obtained in performance (k = 122), competencies (k = 92) and satisfaction (k = 10). CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the use of the flipped classroom in nursing education increases performance and is satisfactorily evaluated by both students and faculty. However, more studies are needed that meet methodological quality standards to consolidate the evidence.

Introduction: The Odontogenic tumors are atypical, potentially aggressive, multifactorial benign neoplasms, odontogenic derived from embryonic tissue for this reason they are exclusive to the jaws. There are few studies of odontogenic benign tumors in children. Objetive: To describe the frequency of Benign Odontogenic Tumors (BOT) in less than 18 years in the Mercy Hospital Foundation (HOMI). Materials and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted cross-section. We reviewed in total 277 medical records of injuries to the head and neck and maxillofacial anatomical area, at the base of the HOMI ISIS data in patients 0-18 years of age, treated between 2006 to 2014. CIE-10 codes were used and classification of the World Health Organization. Results: Were reviewed 277 medical records with maxillofacial pathology; 36 medical records met the selection criteria for the BOT. The BOT had low relative frequency of 12.37% compared to pathology services reported by the treating head and neck. Most BOT who presented belong to socioeconomic stratum 1 (30.55%). Conclusions: This study shows that the BOT are low relative frequency of injuries in the maxillofacial region in the pediatric population, with a male to female ratio 2:1. Also most of the cases were found in the second decade of life.

RESUMO

Plasma cell tumors are lymphoid neoplasms with an uncontrolled proliferation of B cells. These are divided into localized forms (solitary bone plasmocytoma -SBP- and extramedullary plasmocytoma -EP-) and disseminated forms (multiple myeloma-MM-). The SBP is a rare and controversial disease. The aim of this article is the analysis of this entity based on the presentation of a 64-year-old man without previous medical history, with a mass in the left mandibular angle extending to the parotid region on the same side. The panoramic radiography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed an osteolytic lesion 6.5 x 5 x 6.7 cm in the mandibular angle with infiltration of the masticator space and left parotid region. The normality of the extension study, and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of SBP. The patient received treatment with radiotherapy with good outcome.

Objective: The objectives of the first Spanish Consensus Conference on Sinus Bone Graft were trying to reach agreements points on the major controversies of this technique, and translate them in a summary document. Material and method: During the 17th and 18th of October of 2008 took place in Oviedo (Spain) the Conference, sponsored by the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. There, 50 national and international speakers reviewed in 6 workshops the major controversies of sinus bone grafts. Following the conferences, the moderators proposed the main conclusions of each workshop and opened a round of discussion where all attendees participated. Results: This document and its conclusions emanate from the presentations made by the speakers and the discussions and agreements of each workshop. Both have been approved after several corrections by all authors before being submitted for publication. They have also obtained the official scientific recognition of the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and should serve as a basis for future scientific studies and meetings. Conclusions: The main objective when we perform a sinus bone graft is vital bone formation in the maxillary sinus, to achieve long-term survival of the implants after prosthetic loading. To do this, the technique and sequence of treatment should aim to achieve predictable and stable results over time, although this involves a longer waiting time. The initial implant stability is the key factor for osseointegration and should be the main criterion to indicate simultaneous or delayed implants in the maxillary sinus(AU)
