RESUMO

The authors report a case of pheochromocytoma in which the echocardiographic features suggested obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The angiographic study and the computed tomography showed the tumor and its arterial supply. One month after resection of the tumor the echocardiographic features showed a tendency to normalization. The preoperative echocardiographic aspect was probably due to excessive production of catecholamines by the tumor.

RESUMO

A case of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) in a 54 year-old man is presented. The clinical picture showed a 6-month history of mixed sensorimotor distal symmetrical polyneuropathy in all limbs together with anorexia, weight loss, fatigue, arthralgia, myalgia, mild fever and hypertension. The laboratory studies showed leucocytosis, elevated ESR, positive HBsAg and presence of cryoglobulins. Selective renal, celiac and mesenteric angiography was performed by femoral approach and has showed innumerable aneurysms most of them in hepatic and renal circulation. After about two weeks death has occurred. A brief discussion is done on clinical aspects of PAN pointing out the importance of HBsAg determination on etiopathogenesis and angiographic study on diagnosis.

RESUMO

Most renal adenocarcinomas (hypernephromas) are characterized histologically by a dense, avascular, fibrous capsule. This capsule is rare or nonexistent in other benign or malignant renal tumors. The capsule was identified as a thin radiolucent stripe surrounding parts of the tumor periphery in 30 renal angiograms performed on a group of 70 patients with pathologically proven hypernephromas. Only one of 65 normal kidneys and 137 other benign or malignant renal tumors or pseudotumors exhibited angiographic evidence of this lucent stripe. This stripe is therefore referred to as the "hypernephroma halo." Its identification on an excretory urogram is occasionally possible; in five patients it was recognized prior to angiography suggesting the lesion causing it is a hypernephroma.
